On Location with Several MacBook Pros Performing Diagnostics

I am on location at an Apple store at the moment, doing a diagnostic of a new MacBook Pro 2.16GHz with serial number W8612. They are allowing me to test the units side by side with my current MBP 2.16GHz W8612.
Currently, the new unit has not shown any Tm0P errors like my current one -- I've run the diagnostics test (both extensive and quick) about 6 times already without problem. So far things look okay.
One of the senior techs here informed me that a customer came in with a MBP experiencing the 2SNS/1/10000000: Tm0P error and he said it has to do with the hard drive.
No details on wether exactly this is the hard drive controller on the logic board itself or the actual HD.
I'll report more after more testing.
Incase anyone's wondering, I am the author of the DailyTech article reporting on issues with the MacBook Pro and currently at Apple Store Canada at Yorkdale shopping center in Toronto.

Kkapoor -
I understand that currently my article is the only major source of this, however, the people who I have spoken with are Apple employees - whether or not they know a lot or a litte about the actual situation, I have no idea.
I am reporting on what they say. As employees of Apple, they are representing the company. They are able to look up error codes and such.
The Apple employee I spoke to has yet to confirm the Tm0P error that some are experiencing. He is unable to find substantial information on what the error is. He said "at this point, they're just requesting we capture these units and send them back".
There will always be people out there to discredit information. That's fine. I'm reporting on what's given to me by Apple employees as well as testing.

If things seem to be going haywire with your phone, it seems that it MAY be a software issue.
Now, that being said, that does not necessarily mean that it is a virus. Software issues do happen sometimes. It is probably just coincidence.
What you need to do is restore the device using iTunes. This will fix any software issues. After you have done this, you can restore from an iCloud backup.
iCloud does not back up the actual software, so no, the "virus" would not have gotten into the backups.
The link below provides steps on restoring your device using iTunes as well as how to restore from an iCloud backup.

Don't worry! Everything should be back to normal if you follow these steps.

As an addendum, if I need to, and hopefully won't, unless I switch computers, how can I revert from a copy of a different backup?  Thanks. :-)

  • MacBook pro performance

Can anybody tell me how the MacBook pro performs with logic studio in comparison to the mac pro?
I currently use a 2005 Power Mac and normally have Logic Studio running with Ableton Live together, my 2006 MacBook pro always struggled with this.
Anyway now apple is practically stopping all support for my old power pc, it feels like its time to upgrade but I'm not sure what to? I don't want an iMac and the current offering of mac pros are 2 years out of date. This seems to leave two choices
    1. Go for the mac book pro (but will it cope, how will my dual screens work and how do I manage the current 600GB of music content?)
    2. Wait for a new mac pro (could be waiting a long time, are desktops now a becoming obsolete?)
    Thanks

Yeah, certain instruments and combinations of plugins will cause issues with CPU spikes and freezing up.  A trick I found in the Apple support docs is to split the number of plugins on a particular channel between the main instrument channel and an Aux channel.
Let's say, for example, you've got a synth that's particularly CPU-intensive, and you've got a bunch of CPU-intensive effects on it.  Take half of those plugins and put them into an Aux channel, and send the audio output from the synth channel itself into that aux channel.  Believe it or not, this spreads out the processing power across the multiple cores of your CPU, lessening how intensely the CPU is having to work in one particular core.  Tried it out, works great!
The Mac Pro will definitely have more horsepower than a laptop.  For what I do the portability of the laptop is a non-negotiable, but if I had a more permanent studio location (and an unlimited budget) I would totally do a maxed-out Mac Pro.
That's truly an amazing library of sounds!

    Hello John...
You may have a Safari third party add on installed that was compatible with the previous version of Safari but not 5.1. Try troubleshooting > Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues

  • What is wrong with my macbook pro??

I am at about my wit's end with my macbook pro. It's only a little over a year old, and for about two weeks has been running terribly. It was working perfectly fine until I completed the newest software update for my system. The first thing I noticed was that after I restarted the computer, I had to wait at least 10 minutes until the keypad even responded to my touch. Thus, EVERY TIME I have restarted the computer since that day I've had to wait at least 10 minutes until the keypad or touchpad worked at all. So frustrating. In addition, every application on the computer runs slower. Attempting to view online videos proves to be especially difficult. It will freeze for anywhere from seconds to several minutes before the video even plays, and often the whole thing will just freeze up. Occasionally the screen will present a message that I "need to restart my computer", and I am forced to hold the power button down and restart it. It constantly freezes and crashes; at times I will have to manually shut it off with the power button several times a day. It is one of the most frustrating things I've ever encountered and my laptop has NEVER given my any problems up until now. PLEASE, someone help me. And if anyone is interested, it's a 13'' macbook pro, purchased in November 2010. standard amount of RAM and hard drive storage. I am about to lose it.

If you're able to boot, launch the Console application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search, and select the most recent panic log under "System Diagnostic Reports." Post the contents -- the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID” and "Kernel UUID," two long strings of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report. Please don't post "shutdownStall" or "hang" reports.
If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.

  • Multiple Issues with my Macbook Pro

Jan 2011- Received my Macbook Pro 15 inch (late 2011 version)
Feb 2011- Overheating issue, laptop started running very slowly without any applications open
Feb 2011- Sent it to Apple US, test was run, no issue found by Apple, they re-installed the OS, piece returned back, seemed to be running normally
Early 2012- Major battery issue, battery would suddenly drop down from 90% to 25% in 5 minutes with hardly any applications open
From late 2012 to present- When the laptop is put to sleep (with screen closed) and is opened after half an hour or longer, the mouse cursor remains stuck on the screen after waking it up. The only way to continue using the laptop is to restart it so that the mouse starts moving again. Every time the laptop is woken up after sleep mode, the speed of all running applications comes down noticeably.
Mid 2013- Replaced the Battery for Rs. 8000/- After using it just for two years
Late 2013- Laptop fan runs at a high speed even though there are no applications open on the system, suspected Temperature sensor issue, Activity monitor shows a particular kernel that is taking up a huge amount of CPU load.
I have only faced issues with my macbook pro and it still doesn't end,Is there any way I can ask for an out of warranty replacement or atleast if there is a permanent solution at an affordable cost? Apple as a brand has set a benchmark , it is only fitting that as loyal apple customers we expect products to exceed expectations in terms of performance and longeivity and not pose as a problem at every turn. There isn't any sense in going on spending on a laptop that costs a bomb already!!!

While you were on the warranty or if you still have it, you should check out the Apple Store. When you had noticed these problems earlier, you should have immediatly reacted upon them, rather than waiting.

  • I can not use CanoScan N670U with my Macbook pro. I download canoscan toolbox 4.1 from Cannon website. It keep saying "the scanner plug-in was not found". Please help

I can not use CanaScan N670U with my Macbook Pro. I download Canoscan toolbox 4.1 from Cannon websit. It still keep saying "The scanner plug-in was not found". Please help

There is a solution (I'm running Snow Leopard on a Core2Duo iMac, but this problem arose when I was running Leopard on a G4 PowerBook too).
    Problem:
You download the OS X driver for the scanner from Canon's site. I already had the CanoScan Toolbox (4.1) stored on an external drive.
You unzip the driver and run the VISE installer. After a search it finds your copy of Photoshop (and maybe even the CanoScan Toolbox), and you click to install on that/those location(s).
You get a couple of error messages, which you click through.
You restart your computer and try to run the scanner but you get an error that the driver is wrong or missing and the process will abort.
    Solution:
BEFORE you restart, and with the installer package still open -
    1. Copy the Into_CFMSupport_Login & Into_CMPrefs folders to
    Applications : Canon Utilities
    Applications : Canoscan Toolbox
and remove the prefix Into_ from each folder
    2. Check whether the installer placed N067U_Library.shlb into the top level (not User level)
    Library : CFMSupport
and if it didn't, move it there yourself
THEN restart, and try again. It worked for me (via Photoshop), but whether it will work for everyone, I don't know.

how do I connect TC to a new ethernet and share a new ethernet DSL with a new PC and use with my macbook Pro? I tried and get no internet on the PC or Macbook Pro?

    Ok.
I am connected to wi-fi through TC connected to a specific router and is working perfectly and saving data through TM without any issues.
The TC version is 7.6.1 and am using OS 10.7.3
The router mode is on Bridge mode and router is connected to TC through USB cable, I suppose for internet access. My Mac is on wi-fi through TC
I have another location, much further, which recently have been installed with wi-fi through router that has WPA accessibiulity with password, 100% different than the current one.
Since, I will be most of my time in this new location, I wish to move my TC to this new location, and configure it in similar fashion like what I am having right now.
Naturally, I do not wish to lose any saved data on the TC.
Hope I managed to provide enought info.
    Thanks in advance

  • Audition CS5.5 and Macbook pro performance

Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum. I’ll give you a little history as to how I got here.
Started off on CE2.0 then moved onto Audition 1.5 and now I’m on Audition 3.0
I know Audition like the back of my hand, It suits my workflow perfectly(well almost perfectly).
I found that I was reaching some limitations with Audition 3. A normal session for me would consist of 1 Midi track for the EZDrummer VSTi and then up to around 30 audio tracks. My genre is rock/indie/acoustic. Each track will generally have compression and reverb. My vocal track consists of Reverb, 2 compression effects(to compress and de-ess) and sometimes Antares Autotune.
What I found was that I could tell the system was starting to giveway, I was getting pops and clicks during playback, and I would have to start freezing tracks. I found that Antares Autotune was pushing my system, along with the Guitar Suite.
My main problems I found was comping tracks. I would need to create a new track for each vocal take, which ends up pushing the system even more.
I decided I needed to make a change. So I started looking for alternate DAW’s which had a “take” system. I was deciding between Logic or Protools. I’ve been running a PC setup since forever, so Logic would mean I would have to buy a Mac. I choose Logic 9 as I have witnessed my friend comp vocals on it, and it looked very user friendly, So I bought myself a Macbook Pro 15” with the i7 CPU.
So I’ve been using this setup for the last 2 months or so, and to be perfectly honest I miss Adobe Audition. Dont get me wrong, Logic is great, but it feels more like a toy compared to Audition. I feel more at home with Audition. More specifically the workflow, and the Studio Reverb plugin is the best reverb plugin I have EVER used. Not to mention the dynamics processor has great de-esser presets.
    ANYWAY.
    Its question time.
In Audition and more specifically Audition 5.5 Is there a built in “take” system which I’m not aware about? Or do we all just create a new track for each vocal take and comp that way? I don’t mind this way of Comping vocals, the problem lies when the system starts to pop and click due to having too many tracks. This brings me to my next question.
How is the performance of the Mac version of Audition 5.5 on a 15” i7 Macbook Pro with 4gig of ram? Unfortunately my trial period has run out, and I didn’t get much of a chance to push the system(I couldn’t open my .ses files).
Is there a way to convert .ses to .sesx? I tried converting to .xml and it didn’t carry over the plugins.
Can I extend my trial period of Audition 5.5 in anyway?
I really want to give Audition another shot if I can convert to .sesx with ease and have great performance with my Macbook pro.

Okay, I've spent some time this morning looking at Guitar Rig 5 in CS5.5 and CS6.  Guitar Rig can install a lot of flavors of audio plug-in depending on your need.  Audition only cares about the VST and Audio Unit (on Mac.)
There was an issue we found in Audition CS5.5 where some effects don't properly report their channelization.  While not technically an Audition bug (it's part of the VST spec, I believe) we were not trapping these wayward plug-ins, which is why you saw Guitar Rig listed, but disabled.  We addressed this issue in Audition CS6 by catching plug-ins that do not respond to channel requests as expected and assigning them as appropriate.
Guitar Rig is now enabled in Audition CS6 VST Effects List
More importantly, Audition CS6 opens up some pretty impressive effect channelization options which allow you to route the channels of a file into an effect in any manner you like.  This allows you full control over which channel is assigned to which effect input, and which channel the output should be applied.
Feeding a 5.1 file into a Mono effect now enables precise control over channel routing.
Full control over 5.1 files into 5.1 effects as well.  Any combination of channelizations and effects should work well.
Lastly, here's Guitar Rig 5 running in Audition CS6.  While it definitely works, I do not recommend modifying this particular guitar track.  Much like trying to pitch correct Freddie Mercury, Keith Richards guitar work does not benefit from additional processing

  • I keep getting kicked off of my wifi with my MacBook Pro but not with my IPAD?

I keep getting kicked off of my wifi with my MacBook Pro but not with my IPAD, what do I do?

    Hi, mmayers.
Sometimes a simple power cycle of the router can correct the issue that you are experiencing.  However, the issue could be a little more complex.  Wi-Fi routers need adjustments to settings periodically for optimized performance with the constant progression of wireless device technology.  Below, I have included two articles.  The first article will cover basic Wi-Fi troubleshooting.  The second article covers the recommended settings for current Wi-Fi access points.

  • I have an Acer external hard drive 500GB.  Is it compatible with Apple MacBook Pro laptop?

I have an Acer external hard drive 500GB.  Is it compatible with Apple MacBook Pro laptop?

There are only a handful or Hard Drive mechanism manufacturers left. Acer is not one of them, although they may make the enclosure (but probably not that either). So in essence you have a Brand-X enclosure with some sort of Hard Drive inside.
Most of those work fine once they are re-Initialized for use on the Mac. For me, I prefer to use the Re-purposing of a drive as an opportunity to re-write every block with Zeroes (which can take several hours but can be done in the background), assuring that every block is good.
