On login to my bank, Firefox has a popup asking me to open or download a file called ibank.dll. This happens only on this browser, not on Explorer, Opera, or Safari.

When logging in on my bank, Firefox also loads a box with "You have chosen to open ibank.dll which is a document from https://[bank name site]. I can still log into my account, but the extra window is annoying. This happens only on Firefox. It does not occur if I log in from Explorer, Opera, or Safari. I use an iMac.

Check the settings in the Accounts for Mail.
Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Click on your email Account in the left column > What appears under Full Name in the right column?

Creating a Windows 7 OS desktop short cut for gmail with Firefox as browser, not internet explorer

I have an HP laptop that originally had Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit OS. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit OS. I want to generate a desktop shortcut for gmail that uses Firefox as the browser not internet explorer (8). If I use IE 8 as the brower and enter in gmail.com, gmail opens. I can right click on that page and create a gmail desktop short cut with IE 8 as the browser. If I try the same steps using Firefox as the opened browser, I can't create a desktop short cut by right clicking...it is not an option. I can't make Firefox my default browser for everything as my work programs/shortcuts require IE. Again, how do I create a direct gmail desktop shortcut that uses Firefox as the browser, not IE 8, when IE 8 has to be the default browser?

You could create a shortcut to open Firefox with a specific site using a command line argument.
You can copy the shortcut that you use to open Firefox, then right-click on it and choose '''Properties'''. On the shortcut tab, you will see the target, it will look something like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
You can add gmail.com to this shortcut so it looks like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" gmail.com

Nope. It just opened the installer and stayed in the same loop.
It tells me to choose a startup disk but the only option is the HD which it will not use because it says it cannot gather enough information.
Eveything was working fine until the mountain lion failed install.

I just tried my luck for XLS file, but as you said it does not work for XLS file as well. original file contained images which were lost
after the download and garbage characters got inserted in.

Usually the icon on a file will provide indication of hte application used to open it. Highlight the file in Finder and Get Info on it. It should say what is used to open it.
iTunes will not play all file formats. Even some formats such as mp3 which it should in theory play it will not play all versions of the format. Those mp3s may play okay in Quicktime but the file has some small aspect to it which iTunes will not recognize.

We are using a web based service to register people's mood when they touch an NFC card against the tablet. Every time someone taps their card against it, it open up a new tab, and they then register the mood they are in.
We recently got to a situation where we had 150 tabs open which gives us concerns that at some point the tablet could just slow to a crawl or fall over.
The tablet is unmanned and so closing the tabs after every entry manually is not an option either.
Ideally we would like the browser not to open a new tab every time. Is this possible?

In order to open ZIP files, you have to download an app to enable the opening of the ZIP. Here's one you can use: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.winzip.android
Next, when you install that, open it and go to your Download directory. It should either be in sdcard0, sdcard, or sdcard1, then go to Download.
Once you find it, touch and hold the file, then click '''Unzip here''' and it will extract the files in the ZIP folder.

Firefox opens when downloading PDF file while running IE9

Having problems displaying a PDF file (very low resolution & bad contrast). So I tried IE9. When I click on the link, Firefox opens to display the PDF "Swett/Sweet", even when Firefox is not running.

Other files seem to be OK. Was told by the Admin at familysearch.org that they could not duplicate the problem but were using Chrome.

Usually when you uncheck that setting, the browser will ask you whether you want to Open or Save the file. Do you get that prompt, or just nothing?
I've probably used IE9 for less than 5 minutes, so if there is something new about the way it handles PDFs compared to earlier versions, I wouldn't know.

Firefox is a web browser not a homepage.
It sounds like you you have the old www.google.com/firefox/ start page that used to be the default homepage in Firefox before Firefox 4.0 sometime. It is not being maintained by Google anymore so either ignore the message or while in Firefox go to Tools->Options->General->Homepage section and change your homepage.

Just downloaded Firefox 5.0. Now, whenever I try to download a file, the Download Window opens, I see the progress of the file downloading, but then it disappears. The Downloads Window is blank. I can't find the downloaded file anywhere on my computer.
