On my mac why does it take so long to send a Email with an attachment, on my mac why does it take so lone to send a Email with an attachment

on my mac why does it take so long to send a Email with an attachment, on my mac why does it take so lone to send a Email with an attachment

It depends on the size of the attachment and the speed of your internet connection.
Next time you send an email with an attachment do these two things:
In Apple Mail (I assume you are using Apple Mail), under the Window menu select Activity. Arrange the Activity window so you can see it.
Then open the separate application located in the Utilities folder called "Activity Monitor" and arrange it so you can see it at the same time as the Activity window in Mail.
In Activity Monitor program, select the tab labeled "Network." Watch the "Data sent/sec" portion. Then send your email, while watching the Mail Activity window and also the Activity Monitor program window Data sent/sec area.
You should see the mail being sent with a progress bar in the Mail Activity window and also you should be able to see how many bytes/sec or KB/sec or MB/sec your internet connection is giving you in the Activity Monitor window.
Example: my internet provider gives me about 20 Megabits per second download and 5 Megabits per second upload. To convert these to Megabytes per second (Activity Monitor shows things in bytes, not bits), simply divide by 10 (not the exact thing to do, but close enough). So I get 0.5 Megabytes per second upload speed. When I send a file that is 5 Megabytes in size, it takes about 10 seconds if I am getting the full upload bandwidth. If I am getting less than that (which sometimes happens), it will take proportionately more time. Either way, you can see what is happening with these two windows.
If your internet provider is supposed to give you, say, 5 Megabits/sec upload (0.5 Megabytes/sec), but you see only say, 5 KB/sec (=0.005 Megabytes/sec), sent in Activity Monitor, then your emails are taking a long time because you are getting only abut 1/100 the speed you should be. You might want to check with your internet provider about that.

  • Having lagging problems with YouTube videos, it simply takes so long for the red bar to completely load and the videos frequently pause and take too long to restart playing again.

I have been having lagging problems with YouTube videos for a number of months now. It simply takes so long for the red bar to completely load and the videos frequently pause and take too long to restart playing again. Even with little 2 and 3 minute videos.
I have a fast computer and my webpages load really, really fast. I have FireFox 4 browser and a Vista Home Premium 64-bit OS. So I don't have a slow computer or web browser. But these slow YouTube vids take way too long to load for some reason.
Does anyone have any idea how I can speed up YouTube?

    Hi
The forums are customer to customer in the first instance, Only the mods (BT) will ask for personal information through a email link. Would you mind posting your Hub stats & BT speed test results this will help all with diagnosis-
To post the full stats from your router
    for home hub - 192.168.1.254
Navigate to ADSL Settings or use the A-Z at the top right
Click on More Details and then post the results.
Run BT speed tester and post the results from http://speedtester.bt.com/
If possible it would be best to connect to the BT master socket this will rule out any telephone/broadband extension wiring also consider the housing of the hub/router as anything electrical can cause problems as these are your responsibility, if these are found to be the case Openreach (engineer) will charge BT Broadband, which will be passed onto you, around £130.00.
Noisy line! When making telephone calls, if so this is not good for your broadband, you can check-
Quite line test dial 17070 option 2 and listen - should hear nothing best done with old type analogue phone digital (dect) will do but may have slight hiss If you hear noise- crackling pops etc, report it as a noisy line on your phone, don’t mention broadband, Bt Faults on 151.
As for your FTTC its available in some areas between 40% & 80% of customers in enabled areas can receive it!

  • Why Does Captivate 4 Take So Long to Close?

I’m using Captivate 4. Sometimes it takes a long time to close a project and the next time I open Captivate, it takes a long time to open, moving very slow through “loading content.” Once I remove and re-install, and then update the patch, it works. But then it does it again. Someone said that it has to do with a corrupt preference or settings file, so when I re-loaded, I didn’t make any changes like adding for example, the alignment bar (which I usually use). Is there anything else that can be done? Does Captivate 5 have a fix for this by any chance?

    Welcome to our community
Unless something has gone catastrophically wrong, you should never have to perform the uninstall/reinstall/reapply the patch hokey pokey. So that's just wasted effort. There is a simple way to perform what I call the "Factory Reset".
I recently described how to do this in the thread linked below:
I might question why this is needed at all. Perhaps you are unaware of some things that help you avoid issues with Captivate.
    For example:
How many slides are in your projects? We normally recommend keeping projects somewhere between 50-65 slides as a rule of thumb guideline for the upper limit.
Where exactly are your projects residing when you make edits? Frequently we see folks working with projects on a network drive. This is less than optimal and will often cause issues and slowness and project corruption. Work locally off your C drive and periodically copy the project the network server to be backed up.
Hopefully something here was helpful to you... Rick

  • Why does recharging take so long?

My iPad used to recharge relatively quickly. Lately it takes forever - even overnight it may not reach 100% charged. I have done the restart, turned it off, and whatever I can think of, including running it down to empty and recharging. Nothing seems to help. Any suggestions?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. • Why is it taking so long to download the iOS 7.0.2  ?

Why is it taking so long to download the iOS 7.0.2  ?

If you're doing the full update it's almost a gig of data, take a bit to download that. It usually comes down to your internet connection.

  • SELECT bulc collect into takes to long

    Hi,
by the following statement I get Data from a Remote Database and do a update on a local table via a sql procedure
This part of the proecure takes about 70 seconds.
    select /*+ RULE */ id, messaging_state, recipient, messaging_type, manual, node, mess_arch_id, text, alarm_id, time_start, time_end
bulk collect into marcupids, marcstats, marcrecips, marctypes, marcmans, marcnodes, marcmssarc, marctexts, marcalarms, marctstrts, marctends
    from m_testdata@Remote_database marcs
    where marcs.in_archive = 1 and exists (select id from m_testdata rm where rm.id = marcs.id);
    cnt := sql%rowcount;
    if cnt > 0 then
    forall i in marcupids.first..marcupids.last
    update m_testdata set messaging_state = marcstats(i), time_end = marctends(i) where id = marcupids(i);
But if I do just the select like the following without the "bulc collect into" it takes less then a second.
    select /*+ RULE */ id, messaging_state, recipient, messaging_type, manual, node, mess_arch_id, text, alarm_id, time_start, time_end
    marctexts, marcalarms, marctstrts, marctends
    from m_testdata@Remote_database marcs
    where marcs.in_archive = 1 and exists (select id from m_testdata rm where rm.id = marcs.id);
Can somebody tell me the reason why it takes so long when executed by a procedure/Job , Strange is that this problem does not appear on all installation with compareable size of m_testdata on the remote and the local database. On Some installations it runs in less than a second with the "bulc collect into" and in some it takes more than 70 seconds:
    Any Idea?
    Kind Regards

    Hi,
Have you tried adding the statements in a batch and then executing the batch?
You wouldn't want to add all the records in a batch as it would slow down your client. Instead, experiment to find out what would be the ideal number of records to add in a batch before executing them.
    I hope this helps.
Hi, I have an Oracle 8 on a Unix platform which I access with Java 1.3 jdbc code over the network. I write about 9000 records, each record consisting of three fields with respective lengths of 10, 10 and 1. It takes an extremely long time to put these records into the database, for example 20-30 minutes or even more. Is it normal that its taking so long and if not what can I do to speed it? Tx much,

  • Some photos load quick, others take a long time

I have about 4,000 photos in my library. When I click on some photos they goto the edit scren right away. Others take as long as 20 seconds to pull up. Any logical reason why?
Also, when I click to edit some photos, it takes me to the edit screen and shows a gray box in it's place. What happened to my photos that pull up like this?
    Thanks.

Regarding the length of time for displaying do you have different formatted files in the library and could the slower ones be large files like tiffs or similar?
The gray box indicates that iPhoto has lost the link to that photo and thinks it's missing. There's a way to recover those files one by one. If there's only a few this might not be such a hardship. Here's how:
1 - find the "missing" file via the Finder in the Originals folder and copy it to the desktop.
2 - delete that photo from within iPhoto.
3 - import the duplicate file from the desktop.
If you have a lot of these then there's no easy way to recover them all without creating a new library and importing the Originals folder from the old one. That, of course, will lose your albums, books, comments, keywords* and other organizational efforts.
    * If you find you must go that route and want to try to recover your keywords you can try the workflow in Tutorial #1 before starting the new library.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

There are several ways to improve performance, but the best advice I can give is to avoid reports which result in large datasets. Start with small reports on aggregated level of detail and drill down or navigate to reports with higher level of detail. Apart from this, there are also technical approache to improve performance like using aggregate tables or seeding the cache with the reports. Think also about your database (indexes).

  • PlugPlug DispatchEvent() takes too long

    Hi all,
I'm using the PlugPlug interface to send events between my native Photoshop plug-in and my CEP extension.
I've a slightly modified version of the code provided in the Adobe Illustrator SDK (SDKPlugPlug.[h|cpp]) and I'm able to communicate successfully between my two components.
However, here comes the good fun : The interface specifies the Event structure, which contains a data field, but there's no data size. I have assumed this data buffer SHOULD be a null-terminated string when passed to the DispatchEvent function, which means I need to text-encode a good bunch of binary data I need to send via the event.
I'm experiencing that the communication takes reaaaaaaaly long (within PlugPlug.dll), to the point that Photoshop get's blocked for about half a minute for sending 1MB of data.
Not sure what's going on, but this does not work for what I need to do, to the point that I have ended up implementing my communication, until finding a better solution, using an internal socket.
Is there an alternative or a way of doing this that you are aware of?
    Thank you.
    Arturo.

  • Nvl takes to long

One of our programmers has a table with "alot" of records and 30+ columns..
a Select * from table; returns in a reasonable amount of time..
but they are wanting to return every column using the NVL command..
    ie..
    select column1,
    nvl(column2,'A'),
    nvl(column3,'B'),
    nvl(column4,'C')
....and on and on and on...
    from table;
doing this works, but the select takes over 20 minutes..
only solution I can come up with is to update the table, perminatly setting the null values to what they want, then running normal selects against it.. but they don't want to do this..
we tried doing a parallel select, and gained a whole second on the time..
we tried running through toad sql optimizer and it recommended NO_CPU_COSTING, and that gained a whole second on the time..
    are there any other options..

  • Why does it take so long to download a podcast on Mac as opposed to iPhone?

Performed a speed test of ISP and results were roughly 40/40. Why does it take 3 hours to download a 22MB podcast on iTunes via Mac?

I have the exact same problem. I purchased apple tv several years ago, and every time I go to rent or buy a movie it takes anywhere from 3 to 7 hours to download the movie. There is no spur of the moment "hey lets rent a movie tonight" because I know it will take overnight to complete the download. I've checked my internet speed and it spot on. • Why does it take so long to download software like Adobe to a Mac laptop

I just recently bought a MacBook Pro and I am installing Adobe Reader and it is taking sooooo long to install.  I have been installing since 8:30 pm and its now 10:27 and its only up to 42%.  Why does it taking so long?  Also I have downloading other software and it took forever as well.  Why does it take son long to download software to the Mac?

    Something is obviously wrong.
Stop the download and take the machine back to Apple as you have 90 days free support.
They will test the machine to see if it's a hardware issue or a problem with the Mac itself.
If they say it's fine and it surfs/downloads fast on their connections, then it's likely something wrong with your home network or router.
Did you by any chance change your DNS settings in Network?
This could be the problem, delete what you entered and reboot the machine, the ISP's default DNS settings will return.
To OpenDNS? On the router? Are you using your own router of it someone managing it for you?
Are you over 21 and can you legally surf for adult sites? If some sort of filtering is on, this could be the cause.
OpenDNS doesn't have servers everywhere, so it causes certain downloads from Akamai servers to come from a lot farther away than your ISP servers.
Have you run Internet speed tests? Using other machines on your network are they fast?
Is your router or modem old? Did you power them off, wait 30 seconds and power them back on?
It's rather a lot to try to figure out network issues, you may have to call in a local professional.
