On my MBP, what does the uppercase number over calendar represent?

I'm running the latest version of Mountain Lion (10.8.2).  I have Calendar in my Dock.  In the upper right of the calendar icon is a red circle with a number (4 in this case) in it.  What does that signify?
When I look at my calendar I have three marked sections:  "On my Mac", iCloud, and Subscriptions.  Each section has 4 calendars.  The number I seen on the icon (4) is shown next to a calendar I have under the iCloud section.  When I right click on that calendar I can change Sharing setting, and get Info, but nothing changes the displayed number 4.
Thoughts?
Tnx
Steve

Nevermind!  Its a Notifications Center indicator

  • What does the volume number mean?

If I import a song and use "Get Info", under "Summary" there is a "Volume" setting at the bottom of the column on the left side that is different for every song. Exactly what does that number mean. Thank you so much.

Has to do with Soundcheck trying to normalize volume level between tracks.

  • TS4002 what does "the maximum number of free accounts have activated on this ipod touch"

trying to change the email addy on icloud for my nephews ipod touch. ready to throw it out the door. Keeps telling me "can not sign in. The maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this ipod touch" what does that mean? and how do I delete all of that?

It means that you won't be able to create a new iCloud account on that iPod as the maximum number of accounts have already been created.  You also can't delete an existing one to allow you to create another.
Your only options are to either re-use one of the accounts previously created or create a new account using another iOS device or Mac (running OS X Lion or Mountain Lion), if you have one.

  • What does the red number mean?

Airport Utility is displaying a red badge with the number 1 next to the icon for my Airport Extreme, which extends my network with an Airport Time Capsule. What does it mean? If it is indicating an update, shouldn't something happen when I click it? Clicking it opens up the inform balloon with an Edit button. But I see nothing inside the Edit to indicate what I am supposed to do.
    Thanks for the help,
    Van

There is no Update button, just an Edit button.
The message under the amber dot is:
    Extended Network
This AirPort base station was unable to extend the wireless network. Make sure the wireless network you're trying to extend was set up and is working correctly, that you entered a matching wireless network password into this device, and that this device is in range of the wireless network.
This base station was powered down a few days ago because I was having new carpet put in. The base station is back in its normal place within the house, where it worked perfectly before. I checked the password to the network it is extending, and it is correct. I have powered down the base station, then powered it up, and still the same result.
Any other thoughts? What if I were simply to click Ignore?

Are you running Firefox in Windows 95 or 98 compatibility mode?
    Mozilla/5.0 ('''Windows NT 4.0'''; rv:35.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/35.0
Firefox won't install on Windows NT 4.0 - so something is changing your useragent and saying that your operating system is like 20 years old.
Right-click your Firefox desk-top shortcut and select Properties. Then open the Compatibility tab and look at '''Compatibility mode''' - un-check that box if it has a check-mark.

This is probably a stupid question, but what does the red circle with a number in it mean on iCal? It looks just like the emails notification. I do not have anything do or up in my cal.

Actually, another person on the "more like this" had the right answer. It meant I had a notification for an invite that I needed to respond to.
Hope this helps you as much as it helped me.

  • What does the number in parentheses after CPU speed mean?

On original iMacs the CPU is given as PowerPC 750 400MHz (2.2) What does the 2.2 refer to? What would the latest version of the PowerPC 750 be marked?

It's probably the release version number of the PowerPC 750.
The G3's are more commonly referred to by the suffix after "750." I believe the last Mac with a G3 was the 900 MHz iBook, and they used the 750FX.
PowerLogix makes some G3 upgrade products that use the later 750GX, up to 1.1 GHz. Unfortunately, none are for the the CRT iMacs.
Some more info about the "G3."

  • Java2 Platform - What does the number "2" mean ?

Hi all, it is likely stupic. I have used java for nearly 2 years but until now, I don't know what does the number 2 accompanied with java mean ? It is a kind of naming, versioning or what ?? We have java2 including j2ee, j2se,j2me. The number 2 appears everywhere which remains a question in my mind.
Thanks for reading and perhaps, then answering.
    Regards,
    Hung.

From the release of java language version 1.2 , the specifications for java platform and java api had been standardised. So to landmark the java technology standard, it was named Java2. All the subsequent versions of java are based on the Java2 technology, mostly enhancing the api features and not much in vm level. Like pentium belongs to 486 family, java 1.5 belongs to Java2 family. If u know programming java 1.2, its fair enough to use java 1.5. But that is not true for those only know java 1.0/1.1.
    Now for your vocabulary,
j2se - standard edition of java following java 1.2 specification
j2ee - enterprise edition of java following java 1.2 specification
j2me - micro edition of java following java 1.2 specification
I hope your curiosity has been served.

  • What does the HSTS.plist file in the Cookies folder in /Library ?

What does the HSTS.plist file in the Cookies folder in /Library ?
If I open it in TextEdit it is filled with sites I never have visited.
Does anybody know where this file is used for ?
    Thanks

I also have this file in the same folder in the same location with two other 'documents' called:
    1. com.apple.appstore.cookies
    2. Cookies.binarycookies
    Document type shows as 'OOPlistDocumentType'.
Yes lots of website addresses and at least one known spam tel number. The top line of the text when opened by TexEdit is as follows:

This is a bit of a worry ........

  • In C4: What determines the max number of slide one can successfully publish?

    Using C4.
I am required by policy to use an original PowerPoint file. The total number of slide equals 72 (file size 38,201 KB when completed). The internal customer wants a "kicky" presentation based on her slides, so I must use some of the Captivate tools (e.g. zoom area, highlight box -- about the limit of my skills). And there must be spoken narration, not the text to speech feature. Total time for the 72 slides is 22.5 minutes when all is done. When published the narration is good, but the "kicky" part fails. Specifically some highlight boxes do not appear on many slides.
I deleted the table-of-contents feature. The most unusual tools that I'm using are the certificate widget, and a page turning widget.
I tried breaking the presentation into two parts. Part 1 was 58 slides and I experienced the same behavior. I've not tried part two yet.
In the past, I practiced, on my computer, with the aggregator. Is this the best route? We have no experience hosting an aggregator project on our server. Are there any special concerns about doing so? (I'm not the person who does this. He is out of the office at this time). Would daisy-chaining be a better route? (if so, what is the best source for instruction to do this?)

Again, I did not see the elephant in the room. I neglected to notice a default setting. Once corrected, everything works. My bad.
But, I would still like to know what determines the maximum number of slides on can successfully publish without Aggregator or daisy-chaining.

  • When I block my caller Id what does the other person see.

My question is when I block my number/caller id on my iphone what does the reciever of the call see? Restricted/blocked or could it possibly be a bunch of numbers?? Like 13 digits. would it depend on the phone the other person has like if it is an old flip phone?
(when scrolling down I dont know the operating system) so ignore my answer to that if it even shows??

Depends on the carrier you use and the recipient's device. More than likely Blocked.
