On new mac can't open iPhoto 6.02 files?

I just purchased a new mac mini.
On my previous mini I was using iPhoto 6.02.
It does not appear that iPhoto 11 will accept the old libraries.
What to do?  Thanks.
Owen

You're running iPhoto 9.5.1, right?  Download and launch the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 (it'll be located in your Applications/Utilities folder after installation), select your library in the next window and upgrade the library.
When that's complete launch iPhoto 9.5.1 and it should open your library.

There is no such thing as CS8 but CS5 cannot open any INDD file created in a later version. You’ll need to get an IDML file.

  • Old Logic + a new Mac = can't open old projects anymore. De/re-install?

    Hi everybody,
maybe someone can advise me with this problem:
I bought a new Mac recently, did install a fresh OSX 10.5 and then used migration assistant to transfer my old user account from my old Mac (10.4), incl. all files. It did take a night, but it worked - or so I thought. Actually all applications work as they should, except for Logic. I had to re-authorize a few plug-ins, but then all seemed to be cool. I can open a new project, record audio, midi, add plug-ins, all cool. But I ended up with 3 problems, which are really annoying:
    1) EXS24 couldn't find most of the samples anymore. Most, not all. I have 4 internal HDs, one for the system, one for audio recordings, one for samples, one for "other stuff". 2 of these disks came from the old Mac, 2 new ones, content copied from old Mac. In the EXS prefs I set "search for samples" to "all volumes", but it still didn't work perfectly. Finally I bought EXSManager Pro and now it seems to work again. I didn't try ALL samples yet, but the +/- 20 EXS instruments I tried, did load all samples.
    2) Space Designer doesn't load impulse responses for the presets anymore. They're there and at the right place. I can load SD and import an existing impulse file, no problem. But the presets don't find the required files anymore.
    3) Now - and this is the worst one - I can't open old projects anymore. I just can't. It starts loading, I see the rainbow thing (don't know the right word), it turns black & white and that's it. You can watch this forever and nothing happens.
    Regarding all 3 issues:
I don't get any error messages. Logic doesn't crash, I can't click 'apple-.' to stop loading/searching. It just doesn't open the file. I had a coffee, a pizza, I let it try for 2 hrs+, but neither did it load a SD preset or an old song file. All I can do is manually quit Logic.
But when I open Logic with the CTRL-button down and click "no" to core audio I can open all songs. Of course I can not hear a tone then, but it's all there. Opening a song takes 3 secs then. I tried to safe a song then with a different name, re-started Logic with core audio but same result. It get's "stuck".
Of course I checked user permissions and all the usual trouble shooting clicks, but still Logic has a mind of it's own. I installed a 2nd user with admin rights, though still the same, plus all the 3rd party plug-ins refusing to work.
Now I was thinking, should I de-install Logic and re-install from the original CDs maybe. And if so, is there anything special I have to take care of? Like manually removing any prefs or cache files?
Or completely re-install the whole Mac? (pleeease no....)...
If anybody has any idea, it'd be highly appreciated.
Thank you in advance and for the energy to read my little novel here,
    cheers,
    Joern

Ok, either my question was too long or nobody seems to have an answer. Sad, either way
Here's something I found out in the meantime, maybe this is interesting for somebody or maybe - problem's not totally solved - enough info for any of you to give me further advice.
When I start Logic Core Audio driver de-activated, I can open old songs. Then I save them in a new folder with all audio files and a new name. And I remove all EXS24 instruments as well as the Space Designer. I quit Logic, re-open with Core Audio activated and I can open the song.
Problem no.1: EXS24 instruments don't find the appropriate samples, but EXSMananger Pro did help me with this. Same problem with Space Designer, which doesn't find the impulse responses, connected to a certain preset.
Two questions, every idea would be great!
    - Is there any way to teach Space Designer Presets where to look for impulse respones. I can load IR samples directly and create a new preset, but I can't use my old ones.
    - Is it possible to install Logic from scratch over an existing version? Or how should I de-install everything connected with Logic and then install a fresh version from CD?
    Thank you again,
    Joern

  • New MacBook can't open iPhoto

I just got a new MacBook and when I try to open iPhoto, the icon in the dock bounces up and down but it doesn't open. I re-installed iPhoto from the installation disks and that made no difference. Anybody our there have any idea what the problem could be?

I did do a disk utility repair of permissions. I tried opening from the applications folder, but no luck. Also no luck with any of the iLife '08 Applications, same deal. Am trying an Archive Install from the disks that came with the MacBook at the moment (or, rather, hours). Thanks for your suggestions.

  • New iMac can't open iPhoto version 9.5.1 permission needed

Each time I try to open the iPhoto app I get message that  iPhoto is locked and I don't have permission and need to sign in as administrator.
I do that and I get message again that it is locked.and  I don't have permission.  I have tried multiple times to hold down command and option key etc.. but I never get the repair library screen.

    Couple of things to try:
Restart your mac and try launch iPhoto again.
    If that fails:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a file called ‘iPhoto’Lock.data or similar. Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If not: Where is your iPhoto Library stored? If it's on an External Disk, what format is that?

  • Post upgrade/new Mac, can't open 08 site in iWeb 09 :(

So it's been a while and I'm finally getting back to my web page. In the interim I've got a new Macbook, on Leopard and iWeb 09 now. Trying to open the groundwork I did and of course getting no joy, appears I don't have the .sites2 file. Didn't know I needed it, and while an avid backer-upper I don't have a backup of my previous Mac anymore. The html for the pages I made before loads up in a browser fine, is there any way this can be imported into iWeb 08 or 09? or am I starting from scratch again??
    many thanks

The domain.sites2 file is the holy grail of iWeb. It is the heart and soul of your web site(s) in that it contains all of the relevant files for creating the site. By default it is located in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. It's your responsibility to provide for a backup of it. An external HD and Time Machine is a very good backup solution. Or you could get a flash drive and manually backup that domain file to it after every use of iWeb.

I have a G5 mac using ver 10.4.11 and a newer mac using ver 10.8.4 these are networked. using the new mac i looked up my my photo on the old mac. It then said you need to upgrade your library which it did. Now the old mac can not open the photos and say that I need to upgrade my I photo to a newer version. The old mac has no more support from apple in software update so I am not sure where I should go from here. can I use new soft ware with the old mac

The other part of the upgrade message was a warning that once you upgraded you would no longer be able to open the library with the old version which is exaclty what you did and what happened when you choose to continue
The iphoto library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iphoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library. Cancel or upgrade.
So now your choices are to not use iPhoto with the previous version using it onky with the newer version, restore your backup from before you did this upgrade or purchase iPhoto Library Manager and use it to rebuild the library using the older version of iPhoto (instructions are on their web site) thereby downgrading it (without projects)

  • I CAN NOT open Iphoto with the new Mavericks????

I can not open Iphoto with the new Mavericks, I changed Dutch for English but stil nothing ....

    Hi Kevertjes,
Thank you for the update.  I recommend verifying that you are signed in with the same Apple ID associated with or used to purchase iPhoto on the App Store under the Store menu.
If you are signed in with an alternate Apple ID, I recommend signing out of the App Store, signing back in with the correct Apple ID, and then trying the update again:
    Sign out
    Choose Store > Sign Out.
Sign in using an Apple ID
Choose Store > Sign In, or click Sign In in the Quick Links section. The Quick Links section is located in the right part of the window shown when you click Featured, Top Charts, or Categories in the toolbar.
Enter your Apple ID and password, and then click Sign In.

I can't open iPhoto on Mac.  Can anybody help me?

What is your iPhoto version? And what happens, when you try to open iPhoto?
If you only just upgraded to MacOS X 10.9.1, you need to upgrade/update iPhoto as well to iPhoto 9.5.1, to be compatible with Mavericks.

  • Can't open iphoto after complete reboot.

    Hi!
My computer stoped working a while back and I had the harddrive replaced, now I can't open iphoto after importing it from time mashine. I still have the same OS X (10.6.8) on a Mac Book pro from 2009. I can't buy the new one, or update it, because my OS X is too old and after seeing all the problems with the new system I don't really want to install it. How do I make iphoto work again? When I try to open it, it just says it can't open because of a problem (no, really?).

Is there a crash report?  Have you tried reinstalling it?
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • HT201364 I upgraded my MacBook Pro with Lion (but with iphoto 9.2.1) to Maverick and now I can't open iphoto and I can't update either

I upgraded my MacBook Pro with Lion (but with iphoto 9.2.1) to Maverick and now I can't open iphoto and I can't update either - can anyone help please?

Download the iPhoto upgrade from the App Store. It should be free.
iWork and iLife for Mac come free with every new Mac purchase. Existing users running Mavericks can update their apps for free from the Mac App Store℠. iWork and iLife for iOS are available for free from the App Store℠ for any new device running iOS 7, and are also available as free updates for existing users. GarageBand for Mac and iOS are free for all OS X Mavericks and iOS 7 users. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available for a one-time in-app purchase of $4.99 for each platform.

  • I can't open iPhoto by clicking on it in the dock.

I can't open iPhoto by clicking on it in the dock. Normally my album would be displayed but it doesn't since last night. Also I couldn't load new pictures when I connected my camera to it. Please let me know how this can be fixed. Thank you!

Do you have a second user account where you can go and test
this application, and see if the camera can still connect to it?
The actual problem may be with user permissions &/or privileges,
or just issues with them, that may be repaired with Disk Utility.
Have you started in SafeBoot (shift key held on start tone) and
then after, run Disk Utility's repair disk permissions? In SafeBoot,
the computer won't have wireless internet, and usually other items
will be disabled, until you restart the Mac normally.
A repair of those permissions may help your user account see the
iPhoto application and your image files; however there is a matter
of wondering what could have caused this kind of problem.
Is the computer still running Leopard 10.5.8? Or was it upgraded
to Snow Leopard 10.6 via retail DVD, & then beyond?
You could try & boot OS X DVD install disc version to run Disk
Utility's Repair Disk (hard disk drive) in your computer. The HDD
may have errors, or issues; perhaps a Console utility log from the
time/date of these iPhoto launch errors could help figure what's
going on. As these machines age, the HDDs can wear out.
So some software issues may be based in hardware.
There may be some other things to try; not knowing if any have
been, makes suggestions unfocused. Even a restart can help
a troubled Mac figure out a thing or two.
A good idea is to have a backup of your works on an external
hard disk drive, in addition to a TimeMachine backup, and an
archive of your works just in case the MacBook HD fails.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I don't know what has happened but I can't open iPhoto. When I try to open it I receive a caution "The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it." How do I solve this??!!

I don't know what has happened but I now can't open iphoto. I get a caution when I try which says the iphoto library is locked! It was working perfectly fine this afternoon until I tried to upload some photos from my camera and my computer started to run very slow and wasn't recognising my camera. I tried to quit iphoto and then when I came back in to it, this was the message I received. As far as I am aware I didn't alter any settings or put on any locks. Please help!!

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
    Regards
    TD
