On openbox what happens if i install gnome-vfs ???

i have an openbox system
with thunar and without nautilus or gnome apps ....
so, what happens if i install gnome-vfs ??? there will be any software problems such as conflicts
OR
how i can stop this service ???
thanks to all

It will destroy your system. You can't believe how Gnome and Openbox hate each other's guts!
Seriously... Did you try it with pacman? If there are conflicts, pacman should detect them. And pacman, upon inquiring it about gnome-vfs, should tell you exactly what it will pull in.

Judging by the numerous posts on here, there is a very good chance that the computer will not boot up.

  • What happens if I install Snow Leopard OS X?

My system doesn't work quite well, and I wanna know, what happens if I insert my original Snow Leopard disk and install Mac OS X all over again... what would happen to my files, songs, pictures, applications, settings...???
Would they be the same, and only OS would format or what?
    Thank you in advance!

This is an engaging issue - Snow Leopard is actually supposed to create more hard drive space than older OSXes. Interesting. In any case, here is a thread about detailing and managing hard drive space and hard drive data. http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12668131
PS - I searched for the thorough Apple.com version of Snow Leopard Installation A-Z and failed to locate it. Here is a facsimile article (quite concise & thorough): http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/171028/installingsnow_leopard_what_you_need_toknow.html

  • What happens to my installed CS6 Master Suite apps with CC?

    Hi -
This line of questioning may be the product of a suspicious mind but - what happens to my investment of Adobe applications when I subscribe to CC?
Will they be overwritten or deactivated?
If I'm in a situation where I have no access to the Cloud, will I be able to use my installed Master Suite CS6 applications seamlessly?  What Adobe apps WOULD I be able to use if I have no connectivity?
    Thanks.
    JL

Jlucchesi your CS6 Master Collection license will continue to be applied to your currently installed software.  If you decided to download and install additional CS6 software then you can apply your Creative Cloud license to those newly installed CS6 applications.
If you are annual subscriber then it is only necessary for you to be online once every 99 days to verify your active subscription for your desktop products.

  • Acrobat 6.0.6 Pro already installed:  What happens when I install Adobe Reader 9.1

    Hello:
I have Adobe Acrobat 6.0.6 Professional edition already installed.
I'd like to upgrade to Adobe  Reader  9.1,  by downloading and installing from here
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/
    Question:
Will the Adobe Acrobat Pro  6.06 be automatically uninstalled  during the installation of the 9.1 reader?
If so, how would I get it back again if I should want to at a later time?
Can Adobe Acrobat Professional Edition 6.0 coexist somehow with Adobe Reader 9.1?
    Thanks in advance:

Hi Mandy. Have you tried starting a thread in these forums to work on your issue? I can assure you that your experience isn't the same experience that everyone else has. Also sounds like you are strictly dealing with Reader whcih isn't the same as what's happening in this thread.
Start a new thread and give as much detail as you can.

  • What happens if I install another profile

I want to install a tapjoy profile on my iPhone 4S but I wanna know what will happen then

You might have problems if you try use:
    Lion Internet Recovery
If you happen to encounter a situation in which you cannot start from the Recovery HD, such as your hard drive stopped responding or you installed a new hard drive without Mac OS X installed, new Mac models introduced after public availability of OS X Lion automatically use the Lion Internet Recovery feature if the Recovery HD (Command-R method above) doesn't work. Lion Internet Recovery lets you start your Mac directly from Apple's Servers. The system runs a quick test of your memory and hard drive to ensure there are no hardware issues.
Lion Internet Recovery presents a limited interface at first, with only the ability to select your preferred Wi-Fi network and, if needed, enter the WPA passphrase. Next, Lion Internet Recovery will download and start from a Recovery HD image. From there, you are offered all the same utilities and functions described above.
I think that check user acounts before allowing a download.

  • IPhoto & iTunes libraries on USB flash drive. What happens after erase/install?

Not exactly sure how much background someone like Kappy needs for this question but I'll try to not make it a novel.
My late 2010 MBA (64GB) was way low on storage so I decided to get a 64GB USB drive for it and put my iTunes and iPhoto libraries on it. Moving both libraries went exactly according to the instructions. But then after a while iPhoto started to get very slow. The spinning beach ball was running amok. This prompted me to use DU on the new flash drive which didn't show any problems. After doing that I decided to run DU on my mac HD and found a problem that coudn't be repaired without erasing and re-installing Mavericks 10.9.2..
Now, here is my current situation:  I have erased and as I write this am downloading a clean copy of Mavericks from recovery. I had backed up everything to my TC just yesterday.
    Here is my question:
After re-installing what do I do about telling iTunes and iPhoto where to find the libraries? Or, should I just use the copy of everything that I had backed up yesterday?
Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question. I checked to see if there was some support file for my issue but couldn't find anything that really fit.
As always, thanks for everyone's input. I always learn something from you guys.
    Regards, Richard
P.S.: I realize that the problem with iPhoto might not have been the issue with my mac HD and doing what I've done may not fix it. But I wanted to fix the problem with the HD before I went any further trying to fix iPhoto. I hadn't had issues with iTunes functioning with the flash drive, only iPhoto.

Yes, there's no real solution.  Apple makes thin, small computers and devices, but of course that means no big drive to store all the bulky media Apple itself promotes on the iTunes Store.  You then have to buy external storage which is almost as big as the device you are using, negating the whole concept of a mobile device.  I guess you can try wireless, though I can tell you I see about 30+ wireless devices in my neighborhood and with them trying to share only 3 non-overlapping channels I frequently see network slowdown through interference.  Of course you bought that nice light computer so you could take it away form home too, but then you are locked into using what's available on the Internet. I guess part of Apple's answer is cloud storage and redownloading.  However, Apple itself says you need to maintain your own independent archive: "You always back up your iTunes library in the event that a purchased item is no longer available on the iTunes Store," (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519), and, Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not all media formats are available in all countries (see: iTunes in the Cloud, iTunes Match, and iTunes Radio availability by country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085 ); apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this).   Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones, audiobooks), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.
Cloud storage is a convenience but not a replacement for a hard drive at home (and of course, works best when you buy everything from the iTunes Store).

  • What happens if you install Windows 8 work in Boot Camp?

Yes, I know it's not officially supported, but I've seen several references to people installing it anyway - what does and doesn't work? Can anyone explain? Magic Trackpad is allegedly problematic....
    Any pointers gratefully.

It's unsupported so the outcome is kinda random, everything may work, nothing may work, or something in between. It's at your risk.

  • What happened? I installed 10.4 on my G4 1.33 iBook 10.4too old- problems!

    Hello,
Recently I purchased a 1.33 iBook on ebay for my wife. Upon receiving it I swapped out the 40GB with a Seagate 100GB. I then installed OS 10.4 (not the iBook grey discs, but the retail version which was 10.4.2)
Well this caused problems, no mouse trackpad use, and more.
Now, the iBook install discs aren't recognized. Either they don't mount, or the computer says that it's blank or does not recognize it.
Oh, I did Erase the 100 with OS Journaled.
Now, I've never owned a computer so new that the OS retail version was older than the computer's needs.
What do I do now? I'm real close to reinstalling the 40. But if anyone can tell me how to fix this problem I'd appreciate it.
I've tried everything from target disc installing (with a 10.4.6) to external DVD drive istall.
I've done pram reset, PMU reset... basically it's like there's a firmware not present to communicate with the optical drive.
If no one has a resolution... can someone atleast tell me what I've done?
    Thanks,
    Dzve

Putting an older OS on a unit that required 10.4.2 was the problem. Drivers did not install and caused it to behave poorly.
Most of it regarded the disc drive. I now wonder if I could have installed patch burn once one of the OS installs worked. That might have cured it. Nonetheless, I sold the computer with full disclosure on the problem and purchased a different one for my wife.

  • What happens if you install Windows on your Mac partition

I'm curious, is there such a video on youtube that shows this?

    Step One: backup
Step Two: read the pdf guide
Installing Windows normally partitions some of your hard drive (unfragmented contiguous free space) which Windows installs on.
There are dozens of links, articles, how to, just type into Bing. I think the ones with screen snapshots and well written tutorial are going to be better.

  • What happens if I installed Norton Online Family?

I had not read that Norton software is not compatible with Apple until just now!  Stupidly, I didn't realize that the computer had its own parental control function.
I am a new Mac owner and I love it!  The ease and simplicity of a Mac makes me wish I had switched a long time ago.  Please don't tell me I've already ruined my short marriage with my mac because of a dumb rookie mistake?
Please help me and I promise I'll research things better before installing.  Thank you!

Yes, Norton is notoriously bad for Mac. I don't know anything about the Norton product you installed but it should come with an uninstaller?
If not try looking on the Symantec Support site.
    EDIT: Here we go!

  • Replaced hard drive, what happens when I install iTunes again & update ipod

Due to my hard drive crashing, we had to replace the hard drive. When I re-load iTunes, it will have no songs already loaded in the iTunes library; however, my iPod had a couple of thousand songs on it. First, when I load iTunes and add a few new songs, will they simply add on top of those already on my iPod -- or, my huge fear, will it erase my iPod when I go to update it??? also, how can I copy the songs in my iPod back onto the newly re-loaded iTunes? Thanks!

DO NOT attach & sync your full iPod to an empty iTunes!!!
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
iPodRip Software (Free trial: Mac & Windows)
    PodUtil Software (Mac & Windows)
YamiPod Software (Free: Mac & Windows)
    PodPlus Software (Windows)
    TuneJack Software (Windows)
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple & Free Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
    1 - Open iTunes
    2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
5 - Within iTunes: Edit=>Preferences=>’iPod’ tab: switch iPod to ‘Manually manage songs & playlists’ – click ‘OK’
    6 – Eject iPod
7 – Close iTunes, then reopen iTunes and attach the iPod (it’s in manual sync now)
    8 – File=>Add Folder
9 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod (or the lower ‘\iPod_Control’ sub-folder)
    10 - Click OK
-- The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes with its correct information
–-- This will take some time depending on your PC’s speed and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method.
If you have problems with seeing the iPod within 'My Computer', try again switching your update method to 'manual', detach the iPod, then reconnect the iPod to the PC.
After recovering your Library, strongly consider developing a thorough and frequent backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy:

  • What happens if I install IOS 8 on my iPhone and then my Apple developer account expires.

If I upgrade to IOS 8 beta and my developer account expires will I still get over the air updates or would my iPhone stop working?

You would have a number of problems although your Phone would still work, bugs and all, until the software was released in the fall and you couldn't switch over in the developers site.
Either renew your developer account or stay away from the beta.

  • What Happened to my Installed Photoshop 10?????

About a year ago and BOUGHT and PAID for Adobe Photoshop Elements 10.  I was have Lightroom and primarily use Lightroom  However, every once in awhile I'll use Elements 10.  Today I opened up Elements 10 after having not used it for awhile.  The "Welcome" screen opens up and then I click "EDIT" which I have always done in the past in order to start editing.  When I clicked on Edit today it opened up some other window "Adobe Photoshop Elements Free Trial" with options to "BUY NOW" or "START TRIAL".  I have already BOUGHT the FRICKIN thing and PAID for the FRICKIN thing!!!!!  Why the "F" am I not able to open the software which I have previously BOUGHT and PAID for.  Needless to say, the BUMS at Adobe make it as miserably difficult as possible to "CONTACT" them for support.   Any suggestions??

Why the "F" am I not able to open the software which I have previously BOUGHT and PAID for.
I am not familiar with this "F" issue you have. Furthermore, this is a user to user forum, Adobe personnel rarely comment here, so perhaps you could stop shouting with all capital letters at us users who are trying to help you and stop using derogatory terms .
Nevertheless, all you should have to do is enter the serial number from when you purchased the software, and PSE will run properly.

  • Installing my iMac has erased my external drive! What happened?!

I've just upgraded to a nice new Imac from my ancient G4 Tower. Fired up straight out of the box! Beautiful! What happened to the install disks? I had it humming along in no time. Next I plugged in my Lacie external drive. The Imac recognised it and I was able to use a photo from it for the desktop. The only thing that took a while was the internet connection. The usual story for me with a new computer. Once the internet was up I went to register with Apple and was presented with an urgent "system critical", (or words to that effect), download, that had to be done before I could proceed. No problem I thought. This thing's been sitting in a box for a few months so there are bound to be a few updates. Once the download had finished and installed I noticed that the desktop had returned to factory setting. Hmmm, no problem I thought, I'll set it up again. Only now there is nothing on the external drive? Not a cracker! Checked it with Disk Utility. It said it needed to be repaired so I clicked Repair. Then I checked and repaired permissions. Still nothing on it. Plugged it into the old G4 (yes it's still going) and same thing - nothing there! At no stage did I see any warning about erasing files, let alone entire drives, unless it was buried somewhere in the Agree To terms. Can someone please tell me what has happened? Everything is on that drive!

Spoke to Applecare today and the news is not good. The drive appears to be empty and the best they could do was put me in contact with a Data Retrieval firm where I will get a discount if I mention my Applecare reference!
This external drive has worked faultlessly with a G4 Quicksilver for about 5 years. The imac recognised the files on it, and indeed I was able to use some of the files. After the OS update the external drive was empty!
The Applecare rep said he'd never encountered this before, nor had his supervisor. So at least I'm breaking new ground.
    Not impressed.
