• Facebook freezes when trying to open with firefox but not other browsers, how do I fix this?

I have two users on my pc. The main user has no problem accessing facebook using his windows account and firefox browser. The second user, however all of a sudden, cannot access facebook with his windows account and firefox browser. Firefox freezes and says not responding. Other browsers, however work. I have loaded and run a windows registry repair which did not fix the problem. I have also run my virus scanning software. I cannot find an answer to this issue. Can someone please help?

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

Firefox does not have a built-in "Run" option on downloads for security reasons. If you "Run" an item, your anti-virus/anti-spyware may not have an opportunity to fully examine the contents until it is already installed on your hard drive. Result: damage, if infected, is already installed on your system.
With that in mind, you can install the following add-on, but you accept the risk mentioned above (NOTE: the developer has not updated this product -- OR any of his other 7 extensions -- to be compatible beyond Firefox 3.6.x; therefore, when you upgrade to a more current version of Firefox, you may lose the functionality of the add-on if the developer does not update it.):

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

• Yahoo mail remebers my password but not the user name. I've checked the remember box.

I've checked the remember box but Firefox is remembering the password but is not remembering the user name when I sign in to my email account. I'm not having sign in trouble with IE nor am I having trouble signing in on my laptop with either Firefox or IE, so the problem would seem to be with this computer.

* Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.
* Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
* In Private Browsing mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if that session is ended, so websites won't remember you.
* You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
* To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting <b>Firefox will: Use custom settings for history</b>
* Uncheck: [ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"
* Do not use Clear Recent History to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and password exceptions.

• When I open firefox it opens in a extremely small size. How do I fix this so it opens in full screen?

Firefox opens in an extremely small size when I open it. I tried to maximize it and restart. Nothing fixes it. How do I fix this problem? It is driving me nuts.

To make it open at a nice size, make sure you have only one Firefox window open, then un-maximize it (which should make it small again), then resize the window by dragging the corners (not using the maximize button) to make it whatever size you like. Close the window and it should then start back up at the same large size.
The same trick should work with any Windows program that opens in an annoyingly small window :)

• After an automatic update, Firefox will start but immediately terminate. How can I fix this problem? I am sick and tired of manually un-installing Firefox!!

Since Firefox version 12, after Firefox automatically applies an update, Firefox will launch and immediately terminate.
The only solution is to manually un-install Firefox, completely clean the registry of Firefox entries, and manually re-install a previous version of Fiirefox that will work -- I use version 4.0. And then manually update that version to the current version.
I DO NOT install the new automatic update option -- that is, the automatic maintenance option.
BUT never the less, EVERY TIME I check for the latest version of Firefox using HELP --> About
Firefox, the UPDATE is AUTOMATICALLY RUN and FIREFOX WILL NOT WORK AGAIN.
I have put with this none sense for 18 versions of Firefox - MAKE IT STOP!!!!!!!
Thanks, David Breed

Can you bring up the Profile Manager to create a new profile (possibly when starting in Safe Mode by holding down Shift)?
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
See "Creating a profile":
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

• I installed newer Firefox, now parts of Norton and Words do not function. How can I fix this? Go back to previous Firefox? Thanks.

I installed the latest version of Firefox when I was prompted. It was not until after the process was complete was I informed that certain aspects of my Norton and Words programs would not function, and that currently there is no fix available. How can you resolve this? Can I go back to the previous version?
Thanks
Mark

Symantec need to update their Firefox add-ons so that they are compatible with Firefox 4. They have released an update for Norton 360 to make it compatible with Firefox 4, for details see http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100720113635EN&ln=en_US
I do not know about other Norton products, but if you run Norton LiveUpdate it should inform you if there are updates available. If no updates are available, you can downgrade to Firefox 3.6 if you want to use the Norton add-ons.
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

• I changed Java settings and now Firefox crashes as it opens, even in safe mode; how can I fix this?

I was trying to change settings to access the comments section of Slate.com. Right or wrong, I changed a Java setting from -1 to 2. The setting was in about:config and I believe it involved some sort of max. As I cannot open anything, I am not sure.
When I made the change, firefox crashed immediately, Every time I have tried to reopen, even in safe mode, it immediately crashes again and will not reopen.

Hi pternagy,
Sorry you are having problems.
For future reference. Those of us that mess directly with about:config soon learn how to recover from mistakes and what it is sensible to backup. Occasionally backing up your entire profile for instance can be useful and would have probably given you a quick solution of copying over the file from that backup.
*Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles
Ok on to the subject of trying to get Firefox back as it was:
Find your profile and the file prefs.js and rename that. (The renamed file is a potentially useful backup.) Firefox is then forced to regenerate the file and will reset your preferences to the default. You can then re open and use Firefox. Next try to get it back to normal.
Trying to manually edit the file prefs.js is normally a bad idea. However if it is a single pref change it may be possible to directly edit the prefs.js file (whilst Firefox is closed) to get everything back to how it was before . You have the renamed file to work with. Probably best to test all this out in a new additional profile then you only break additional test profiles not working profiles essential to Firefox.
These articles should help you:

• Firefox crashes whenever I open a session restore. How do i fix this?

So, I am a tab hoarder I will admit that upfront. I have lots of tabs saved. Restore sessions within restore sessions... quite a few of them. But today I tried going through my restore sessions and my browser crashed. I attempted a million things to fix it, but whenever i try and open the restore session it crashes firefox. I even tried taking the profile and moving it to a different computer to see if it would make a difference, but it didnt. Can you help me fix this please?

Hey, I apologize for the delay on this, please make a copy of the sessionrestore.js file before opening Firefox again. This will save the tabs that were in the previous session.
First try about:sessionrestore page with the sessionrestore.bak file.
Technical elaboration
"Firefox typically renames sessionstore.js to sessionstore.bak when starting up in a new session so sessionstore.bak contains your old session and a fresh sessionstore.js contains your new session. This means that normally there is only one previous session available at any given time. (Occasionally due to file locks or other rare problems, Firefox may create files named sessionstore-1.js, sessionstore-2.js, and so forth.) "
There are two things you can do the next time you open FIrefox: you can replace the sessionrestore.back file while it is closed first, or when you open it you can immediately go to History > Restore previous session.
Or a last resort, add hoc way of extracting the urls from the file is elaborated on in this forum thread
For the meantime, this Session Manager Add on helps save and restores sessions after crashes.
However, the issue with the crash seems to crash at a few places. There are 44 threads in some of them which just means it was starting each of those windows on the start up.
