On opening a PDF file adobe starts but then closes as there is an unidentified error.

I am using Windows 7 and up until a couple of weeks ago had no problems opening PDF files. I have Adobe Reader version X1 (11.0.10) and on requesting a file to open it starts but after a short while the page goes opaque and a message comes up advising that Adobe Reader has stopped working with no reason given. The message states that a solution will be sought but nothing happens andprogramme closes.
In an effort to sort this I uninstalled the programme and re-installed it but no change. Can anyone suggest a solution please?

Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

  • Slow opening of .pdf files - Adobe Reader XI

I have Adobe Reader XI - when I go to open a .pdf file (small file sizes like 17KB even) - the file takes about 45 seconds to open.  How do I get it to open faster?  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the reader but that didn't work.

See if you have anything on your system slowing things down. Try turning off your virus protection. If you have no protection, install some and have it look for virus or spyware. Those are the most common things to slow a computer down.

  • When I open a pdf file in Firefox and then save, how do I set the initial directory to be closer to what I want instead of a temp directory?

When I choose to save a pdf file directly when using Firefox, it works perfectly. However, when I choose to open a pdf instead and then save it, the save directly displayed will always be a temp directory and it would be more convenient for me to choose a directory closer to where most of my files normally go. How do I change this?

    Hi,
I partially answered your question in another posting but I feel that you´re in the wrong forum for your problem. This is for BSP development and you talk about CRM.

  • Need to open existing .pdf files and add footer, then save files again

I would like to know how to go about opening a folder containing .pdf files, adding a footer to each file, then saving the file.
I wanted to check first and see if this would be possible and if so, how to go about doing so.  Is this something that can be accomplished in a batch file?
We are using Acrobat 5.0 to create the .pdf, but I don't know if we need a newer version to accomplish what I am looking to do.
Thanks for any info you can give me.

    Hi,
fwiw - Acrobat 5 (full) supported Batch Sequences.
The "facility" was provided as an add-on available on the installation media.
    Be well...

  • Firefox downloads pdf files to temp, but then won't print them -- why?

Until a short while ago (5.0?), if I downloaded a pdf in Firefox, it would open in an Adobe window and I could print it. Now it tells me "C:\Users\Peter\AppData\Local\Temp\[filename].pdf could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences." I can't find a relevant preference in Firefox to change*; Acrobat and Reader are each fully functional, and if I go to that file location in Windows [7] Explorer, there is no difficulty opening it and printing it. ???
*BOTH Acrobat 9.4.5 and 10.1.0 show up as add-ons, but disabling one or the other has no effect on this problem.

The new built in pdf viewer in Firefox sometimes causes problems. It is probably worth trying the problem document printing with whatever other pdf reader you have.

  • When I try to open a pdf file, firefox 8.0 abruptly closes. I then have to use Explorer.

    Installed 8.0 recently

Download Reader X (http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/) and see if it continues.
You should also update to Firefox 8.0.1 (http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/)

  • Why is my Adobe Reader 11 going automatically to the background when i open an pdf file

    Hello Guys,
We have a problem at a customer. If he opens an pdf file from his programm , then it is going automatically to the background.
We tried it with Adobe Reader 8 and that wasn't giving a problem, so anybody has an workaround for Adobe Reader 11 ?
    Thanks
    Tariku Bartels

    Dear Pat,
We have internet explorer 9.0 (and we tried it with 10) and when we want to proceed with it, it opens for a second an goes to the background.
So it opens in the External Adobe Reader. But i know we can alt-tab it but it needs to be automatically and that worked just with Reader 8.
So do you have any idea of how we can fix this or is there a workaround available for this problem.
    Kind regards,
    Tariku Bartels

Adobe Reader hangs after opening a PDF file for a minuet

Pat. Thanks for your promote reply. I have resolved the issue.
Closing the tools pane at the right side:
open Adobe Reader without opening a PDF file
    collapse 'Tools' pane
    then open some PDF
    It shouldn't hang anymore

  • Firefox 3.6.10 crashes each time I try to open a PDF file? Any suggestions?

Each time I try to open a PDF file from any website, Firefox (3.6.10) crashes. No error messages--just closes abruptly. For add-ons, I've got Personas 1.6.1, United States English Dictionary 1.0.0, and WOT. I've got the Adobe Reader 9 and Foxit 3.3.1.0518. The crashes of Firefox occur with both PDF readers. I did go through the posted solutions for PFD related crashes in the FAQ section but those steps did not resolve the problem.

Does that only happen if you open the PDF files in the browser or also if you open the PDF files in the standalone program by disabling the plugin?

  • When openning a PDF file, a new tab will open but it will be blank, it does not download or open any pdf files, this just started the last 3 days....!!!!

    Hi,
I am on the verge of deleting Firefox from my computer as it has wasted hours of my time, and none of the online trouble-shooting answers are of any help.
Until recently I could open PDF files in my browser window, and today its impossible to open any pdf file, it will not even download if I choose to download it.
This issue has been going on and off for nearly a year, and I downloaded Nitro PDF add-on to solve it previously as the Adobe reader add-on didn't do anything. Today In the options menu of applications where I can select the program I want to open the PDF files with I can no longer find the NitroPDF reader as an option, so I choose the Adobe add-on and no matter how many re-starts it refuses to initiate any PDF files, all I get is a open and empty new tab.
Internet explorer opens PDF files fine, so I know its not computer related.
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate, Firefox Version 19.0.
If there is a way of fixing this, please help because currently I am at the end of my patience.
    Regards,
    Emre

Hey thanx for the help, it worked like a charm.
I think firefox changed the application lay out, as I used to be able to choose my PDF opener from the list at " Adobe Acrobat Forms Document' where I could choose Nitro-PDF reader, but it has now moved all the way to the bottom like you suggested to the obvious place of "Portable Document Format" section.
If someone didn't tell me , I wouldn't have scrolled all the way down to be able to find it... it really should be with all its cousins up the top...
    Cheers again..

  • I am trying to open PDF files from safari, but when I click on them they open in a separate window and the information is encrypted. Any ideas on how to get them to open them in Adobe? Any help please!

I am trying to open PDF files from safari, but when I click on them they open in a separate window and the information is encrypted. Any ideas on how to get them to open them in Adobe? Any help please!

The pdf is loading as html code. If you save it, it will download as :
    605124.pdf.html
    Change the extension to .pdf
And it opens and works perfectly, I just tested it:
Use this link to download it automatically:

  • Adobe Reader XI is not working. I have used the cleanup tool and reinstalled it. I try to open a .pdf file in the program the window will open and load all the tabs but I am never able to actually interact with them.

I am unable to use adobe reader xi. I have tried to use the clean up tool and re install the reader. That doesn't seem to help. I go to open the pdf file in the reader and the window will load but I am not able to do anything past that point. Almost as if the program freezes once loaded I never get a not responding error until I open the task manager on the computer.

  • Unable to open some pdf files by clicking on them, but can open in Adobe Reader 10.1.0.

When I click directly on some pdf files which have been saved in My Documents, I get an error message: "Before proceeding you must first launch Adobe Acrobat and accept the end user license agreement."  Yet, I can open those same files from Adobe Acrobat, they open easily.  This has only happened with PDF files saved from two credit card companies; my bank PDFs and other pdfs can be opened without first opening Adobe Acrobat.  Is there some security block I need to undo or ??  (I am the administrator of these files.)  I have done a reinstall and a repair, but this didn't help.  (I am using Adobe Reader 10.1.0 on Windows 7)

Glad to know that it worked. You can get more information about Protected Mode from the following link:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/860/cpsid_86063.html
Although the issue you describe should not be related to the Protected Mode anyhow, but it seems that its a bug in the product.
    Thanks
