On screen keyboard in Mint 17

I've had no replies to this elsewhere, but maybe someone here can halp?
I'm trying to get an X60 tablet working sensibly in tablet mode with Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon. I am an eternal beginner with Linux.
I activated the built in on-screen keyboard, but it doesn't seem very user friendly. Examples include: If I hit the menu button, I get the programs menu, but with the keyboard on top. When I cancel the keyboard, the menu goes too. It also doesn't ever seem to appear for, and link to, LibreOffice.
I installed "Onboard", which also seems impossible to set to any sort of auto-appear mode and also doesn't seem to link to Office, although I did seem to get this going briefly.
Any pointers to simple instructions to get this working, or confirmation that it can work, gratefully received.
Thanks

If you are running your ADF on a tablet - this is how it behaves by default see:
https://blogs.oracle.com/shay/entry/tablet_support_in_adf_faces
You could try and build a keyboard display with ADF buttons that show up in a pop-up for example.
Package it as a reusable component and share between your Forms.

• On Screen Keyboard Glitch in Tablet Mode - On Screen Keyboard minimizes / disappears / slides down

Hi there -
New Yoga owner here ( just bought it yesterday) and within minutes of setting the computer up I noticed that the on screen keyboard was malfunctioning when the yoga is in tablet mode. Specifically, it pops up for about a second and then, without me touching or clicking or doing anything, it quickly slides back down. repeated attempts to bring up the keyboard end up, frustratingly, with the same result. what is perplexing to me is the on screen keyboard works fine in laptop mode (when I need it least).
Someone else already started a post on this BUT it was marked as 'solved' (which it wasn't) so I figured I'd start new thread. The solution on the previous thread was to simply 'refresh' windows to get rid of any new drivers that were downloaded since purchasing the yoga, but I did not download or update anything prior to this problem arising (as I said, the problem seemed to occur within a few minutes of turning the machine on for the first time). In any case, I tried the refresh and it did not work so clearly my problem is not that I downloaded an incompatible or faulty driver. Please Help! I love this machine and I'm trying to see past the other flaws I've noticed so far (subtle screen flickering, inconsistent touch sensitivity etc), but this issue is starting to really undermine my confidence in the product quality and, from a productivity standpoint, it is a real deal breaker to not have full tablet functionality.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I had the same problem with the disappearing virtual keyboard within hours of starting to use my new Yoga 13. I read somewhere that it was a problem with an incompatible Synaptics driver, and when I looked in the control panel, it showed that the Synaptics driver had been updated on my Yoga as of the day I bought it. I think somehow by agreeing to automatic updates of the software, the Synaptics driver is updated to an incompatible version. So what I did was I removed the Synaptics driver, using the Windows program uninstaller tool, rebooted, and then found the Synaptics driver at the Lenovo site which is specifically labelled as the Yoga 13 driver. I installed that, and the keyboard is now working fine.

• While using bluetooth wireless on iPad, it stalls and the on screen keyboard comes up.

I just bought my iPad 2 about two weeks ago. Before that I was playing around with my parent's iPad first generation.
For both iPads, I have the same problems while using the same wireless keyboard on both of them.
1. While typing, at random times the wireless keyboard stops responding and the on screen keyboard shows up.
2. While typing, also at random times, the wireless keyboard stops responding and the same alphabet that I last typed in would multiply itself until I either press "command + A" and delete or lock my parent's iPad and iPad 2.
3. While typing, my wireless keyboard stops responding, on screen keyboard shows up, I select my on screen keyboard to hide, continued typing on the wireless keyboard, it stops responding again and my iPad2 restarts in a split second with the black backdrop and apple logo in the middle and goes to lock screen. Then everything is fine.
4. While not typing, on screen keyboard shows up at random times while bluetooth is paired to wireless keyboard and then goes back down, all this while bluetooth icon at the top screen of the iPad2 flashes.
I don't know what is wrong. At first I thought my iPad 2 has a problem but when I remembered the same problems occurred on my parent's iPad first generation, I don't know if it is just my keyboard or the iPad(s) have a problem.
Please help me!

If this is only one specific app, it is a problem with that application's programming.
You can try to reset your iPad by holding down both the Home and Lock buttons for approximately 15 seconds or until the device restarts while ignoring the power slider.

• Apple Tv (3rd Gen) On screen keyboard US Version/UK Version

I have recently bought the Apple tv from Amazon UK and was supplied with the US version, and I guess the only difference is the power cord ?
What I would like to know is on some of the on screen keyboard down the bottom right you have .com .au etc (Something like that) and if anyone who has a UK model can confirm that this is the same on their one ?
Or on the UKmodel does it have .co.uk .com etc ?
I guess it's the same on all models and the UK version doesn't have a .co.uk only .com etc ?
If someone could confirm this for me please as it would be much appreciated and put my mind at ease.
Thank you in advance
Gavin

Howdy vicspainhower,
It sounds like you are not seeing all the options you expect to see to be able to setup your account to view on the Apple TV. First I would restart the Apple TV, just incase it need to refresh the app info:
How to restart your Apple TV
Restart your Apple TV by selecting Settings > General > Restart.
If you still do not see the option you are looking for, you may need to work with ESPN directly:
Contact Apple TV content providers
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the very best,

• Where's the on-screen keyboard?

I'm actually using a Dell Venue 11 Pro tablet, but i'm hoping this is a Windows issue and maybe somebody with a Surface has seen it too..
I've recently discovered that the on-screen keyboard no longer comes up automatically as it should.
Example: Swipe in the corner to bring up the charms. Tap on "search", then tap into the search field. The keyboard *should* come up automatically at that point, right? Nope.
I know I can tap the keyboard from the desktop screen, but want to use it in the Start screen. If you have the keyboard up manually in the desktop screen and then go to the Start screen, the keyboard goes away.
I'm running 8.1 with all the latest patches and updates from Dell and Microsoft. And like I said, this could be specific to Dell, or maybe just the Venue Pro.
Anyone encounter this issue?

put laptop on a pad of some kind.
turn down the volume
use external speakers if your going to 'crank' it out max.
Most laptops dont have the quality speakers to output anything LOUD enough to make the laptop 'dance' from sound vibrations. The Mac however does.
Both a good thing and a 'bad' thing. At least its got it.

• Why does the on-screen keyboard disappear once a Bluetooth device has been attached?

Once I've connected a bluetooth device to my ipad 2, the on-screen keyboard disappears and doesn't return until I re-start the ipad. I've tried this with both a bluetooth keyboard, as well as with a bluetooth pedal, which will do page up, page down, right and left arrows, etc.

Reset your phone , you wont lose anything. Hold the home and off button down until the apple symbol comes up.

• Type using on-screen keyboard

The new vision update (which I must confess I don't like) has removed the on-screen method of data entry (up,down, left, right).
We (my family) liked that.
Now, I have to look up and down to and from the controller while typing in, and trying to read the tiny, tiny text on the controller.
Not very ergonomic or user-freindly. Rubbish really.
Is there a way of displaying an on-screen keyboard to facilitate the better old style method of data entry.

Hi
I dont think that an single Win 8.1 update would affect single keyboard buttons.
This does not make any since to me
Therefore Im not quite sure if its really an software problem.
Do you have an external USB keyboard? Can you test it in connection with your notebook?
The point is that if such USB keyboard would work properly, the software is not the problem but the internal keyboard could be the troublemaker.
I think you should test this before trying to install the system again

• IPhone 3GS On-Screen Keyboard Problem!

The number, space bar and return key on my iPhone 3GS on-screen keyboard is not working until you tilt it to landscape mode! When I tap the number key, it activates the cap key. When I tap the space bar, depending on weather I'm taping the left, middle or right, it will activate the "X, C or B keys, respectively and when I tap the return/done key, it will activate the backspace key! This problem happened suddently about two days ago!
What on earth is the problem and can anyone please help me?
Thank you very much in advance!

Try pushing the "home" button twice rapidly to get the multitasking bar to open. Hold on the icon for the app store for a few seconds until you get the option to close it. Then try reopening it and see what happens. That will probably fix it.

• Lenovo Helix - On-Screen Keyboard with Bitlocker

Hi Community,
i've tried to install Bitlocker on my Lenovo Helix with Windows 8.1 Pro. As long as the dock is connected with the tablet, you can decrypt the harddisk with the right key. But if the tablet hasn't a dock or an external keyboard you'll only see the blue bitlocker-homescreen and can't do anything.
Another helix in my company works with bitlocker - so i know it can work.
i've tried the following things:
- different Bios-Versions
- install all drivers and additional software
- set up a new Windows 8/ Windows 8.1 (Pro)
The on-screen keyboard works by adding a Bios-password.
Btw: The helix won't let me install Windows in UEFI-Mode..
Can somebody help me?

current, it runs on legacy boot - the uefi bootloader doesn't work for x86 Win8.1 (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=SF13-T0008)
well, i have to install 32-Bit. The helix in Uefi-Mode only boots from the x64-Win8.1-DVD (or USB-Stick)...

• Yoga 13 - On-screen Keyboard Randomly Popping Up When Using Physical Keyboard?

While in laptop mode, and typing on the built-in physical keyboard or a keyboard attached via USB, the on-screen keyboard will randomly pop up, taking away focus (particularly noticeable when using extended desktop on an external display) and eating up half of the screen real estate. As soon as I press the next key on the physical board, the on-screen keyboard minimizes itself. Sometimes it will pop up when I'm not even touching the laptop!
Anyone else experience this and/or know how to stop it? It's the only thing about this machine that drives me absolutely nuts. It seems to be random. I can't pin it down and haven't found any similar reports via Google search.
Thanks in advance.

Disabling "OnScreen Keyboard (Lenovo Transition)" stopped it. The solution is good enough for me, as I don't need the keyboard to pop up on its own anyway. It'll pop up when I tap in a text-entry box, and that's all that matters.
Attempts to calibrate the screen were unsucecssful. I can't say whether or not a screen calibration will stop the random pop-up issue because every time I calibrated the screen, it broke the right-side screen swipe that reveals the Charms Menu. Resetting the screen calibration was the only way I could find to restore the right-side swipe function. This is quite unfortunate because, regardless of the fact that it broke my Charms swipe, my touchpoints were FAR more accurate after the calibration than before.
So now I have another problem. I can't calibrate my screen for optimum accuracy without losing the convenience of the right-side swipe.
Any ideas?

• The microsoft on-screen keyboard doesn't work with firefox. I try to enter type and it jumps around the page. I can't select anything on drop down lists.

I tend to use the on-screen keyboard. For about two months I've been unable to type text in firefox. I can't use dropdown boxes. I have to text to notepad then copy and paste it. I realize this is hardly a critical issue but I've loved using firefox for years and am considering going to another browser if I can't resolve this.

• Windows on-screen keyboard

Hye,
I'm trying to make Windows on-screen keyboard open right after any text box is getting focus,
right now, as default, the user must click the text box twice to activate the keyboard which is a problem, becasue it's on a tablet and not always the 2nd time is in the box and tablet is not real accurate and so on..
so, I want the virtual keyboard to be visable right after the first click,
is there another way or calling OSK.EXE everytime the user click on text-box is the only way?
thanks is advance,

• Twist on-screen keyboard too often unavailable

I can't seem to get the on-screen keyboard when I want it. It seems to me that any time I touch a typing field with the touchscreen the touch keyboard should open. Is there nowhere I can set this preference?
My favorite way to use the Twist as a tablet is turned around slightly opened with the keyboard on my lap backwards. Thus the screen is tilted to any ideal angle but I don't have to hold the whole weight of the device because it's rested on my lap. But in this mode the screen is closer and easier to use as a tablet than it would be if it was turned around like a normal laptop. However, I can only get the on-screen keyboard to open reliably when I fully shut the device to act like a normal tablet. If I wanted a normal tablet I wouldn't have bought the twist.
How can I get the on-screen keyboard to simply open whenever I touch a typing field?

I can confirm that I was having issues with the keyboard not showing up at the most inopportune moments (login, for instance), and that these issues were resolved by upgrading to the latest power management driver. I noticed some improvement in screen rotation as well, but can't speak to that with too much authority since I tend to keep my rotation locked.

• Can not re-size and move on screen keyboard on windows motion tablet

I have some Tablets (Motion F5) they all have windows 7 pro installed.
After a few windows updates last week the on screen keyboard (standard integrated) i cant customize the size anymore. also i cant move it to where i want on the screen. in the settings you can choose between:

after i restored windows to a restore point a few days back it works again.
now one day further and it crashes again.
when i search in the start menu for on screen keyboard i found an similar keyboard. that one still works.
anyone any idea what exactly occurs this, and how i can fix this without ignore the windows update's?
Ps. this problem occurs on all tablets we have (5 pieces). :-(
thanks,

Hi,
This issue can be caused by corrupted system files during update installation or incompatible update.
Please first try following suggestions:
1. Update your keyboard driver in Device manager.
2. Run command SFC /SCANNOW as admin, any error, post back the cbs.log.
3. Run this command to repair Windows:
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
If there's no changes on this issue, please restore your system back to the point when the Keyboard work fine, and manually install checked out updates one-by-one, after each one, please restart computer to check the issue.
Then let me know which update cause this issue.
