On screen shows updating itunes,but doesn't really update;instead freezes

When i connect my ipod to my computer(which is a windows xp)to update my songs and videos to my ipod, it doesn't work. First the icon for my ipod shows in the itunes and it says that it's updating. There's this flashing in the little ipod icon that shows that it's updating. But then it stops a after 2 minutes or 3, and freezes. Is something wrong with my computer, itunes or my ipod? HELP!!!!!!!Also when i add a video to my itunes, i click on it to play, but it doesn't and itunes freezes up. I then deleted the video file in the recycle bin, but the video in my itunes still shows even though i deleted it. So everytime i go on my itunes, and click that video file even though i deleted it already(don't know why it still displays on my itunes library), my itunes totally freezes up, so i have to end the program itunes immediately and it asks me whether i want to send a report of the problem. I think this is causing my itunes to not work properly and therefore i can't update my ipod. Can anyone please help me?!!!!!!!!!!!!I would really appreciated!thank you!:):):):)xD

a few questions before proceeding.
are you getting an error message? if so, what does it say? include error message numbers if you're getting any.
or are you getting no error messages whatsoever when you try to launch itunes?
if you're getting no error messages whatsoever, do you just see the wee hourglass for a few seconds, and then nothing? if so, do you also have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on that PC?
or are you seeing a brief "flash" of the itunes license screen (and then nothing)? if so, do you also see similar behavior when you try to launch your QuickTime?

Tried to update itunes but did not fully update

It asked to update then when i said OKAY it didn't do anything ? and now it won't let me open it :/

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

That message means that you have to restore the iOS software because something went wrong. Follow the instructions here. I hope that you have a backup.

If you still have problems after restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod then you very likely have a hardware problem. I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

No, it is not a virus! Not every unexplained occurrence in life is a virus. Microsoft has a lot to answer for by brainwashing users if its operating systems into thinking anything unusual must be the result of a 'virus'.
It was most likely the recently released iOS system software update that for whatever reason did not complete.

Hello, (sorry for bad english)
So yesterday I updated itunes to 10.5 and updated my ipod touch 4g to ios 5.0.1.
I restored my ipod so everything was lost. Now I put al my music back on but there is a problem.
If for example change eminem to Eminem it changes the id3 tag. (example I select 10 songs with the names eminem Eminem e&m I change them all to Eminem)
It works on itunes and I have a playlist with only Eminem.
But on my ipod there are still the names of eminem Eminem e&m so why is that?
1. I synced my ipod
2. I didn't made the changes in libary but onder the ipod in the playlist (so really on the ipod, so you guys don't say you may made the changes in itunes libary. No I really made the changes on my ipod)
3. I restarted my ipod several times but it didn't help

I have a completely untested & unconfirmed hypothesis that "something" changed in the last iOS update with the way iTunes keeps track of which items are on the device. My guess is that it has something to do with being able to identify the same item whether on the device, in your library or in the cloud. Whatever the cause I found I needed to manually delete a bunch of albums on my iPad that were showing as dupes or without artwork and which didn't get resolved by syncing. Since I deleted them and resynced it has all been fine. Remove any problem content from the device and resync.
In the list type views swipe from right to left over the right hand side of an item (but keep away from the alphabet if it is showing down at the edge of the window). A red delete button should appear, tap to remove the item. In grid mode on an iPad holding your finger down on an item for about a second will produce a black & white cross at the top left, touch this to delete.
If that still doesn't work, backup the device and then restore it.
