On start up many programs open which is irritating
I use Macbook pro 13" year of 2011, many programs open on start up irritating me since i have to close all of them before I can work comfortably. Any help?
Are these programs that are set to run on startup? You can alter your startup programs so that none open up automatically.

When starting up too many windows open my 2010 Macbook White with upgraded Lion and apparently slows it down. How do I prevent unwanted windows from opening up on startup?
When you shut down your machine, you get a dialog box that asks you to confirm the shutdown. There is a little check box there that, by default, will re-open all of the applications that were open when you shutdown. You can uncheck that to prevent those applications from reopening.
I'm guessing that you do not have a bunch of applications set up to automatically start under your user settings. If doing the above doesn't work, let us know and we'll go through checking for any start programs set to start when you login. -
I have downloaded icloud for the pc. Windows 7 on my pc will not let me open the setup. I get an error message: contact the program provider which is apple and they have of no help. Any suggestions?

I did not use my computer yesterday, and now all of a sudden, Firework does not open at all after clicking on its icon or starting as a program. I did not download any upgrades or anything else, and I have Norton 360 version 3. I can open Internet Explorer, but that's not my default browser, so I have no problem with the Internet connection.
What could be the problem, how can I restore my browser without losing my bookmarks, settings, etc?

When I want to return to my home page after looking at a website I click on the home icon and it resets the page to my home page but also open a blak tab which i don't want.How can I stop this as I have too many tabs open and have to close all of them.
You may have an unwanted extension that is modifying sites (or the toolbar area). Try this:
Disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Does that flush the tab?
Please report back on anything suspicious you find so others can learn about its bad behavior. -

Launch System Preferences and click on the “General” icon
At the bottom of the “Number of recent items” list, uncheck the checkbox next to “Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps” -
I installed a new 1tb WD hardrive in my mid 2009 macbook pro along with upgrading from 4gb to 8 gb.
My start up disk is still almost full, booting up is extremely slow, and programs open up by themselves once booted up ex:word, excel.
New TB drive shows up alng with 8 GB but, new hard drive not updating somehere? What am I missing? See screenshots belowThanks for the response, but I'm looking for answers to a few of the other answers before I look at completeing the steps above.
1. Whyis the new TB drive recognized in image 1 but still have the original 256GB size still recognized(and almost full) in image 1 also? The HD should now be 1 TB, not 256 correct? If this were the case, the HD, would only be fraction of full capacity, Where is the disconnect between reconizing the installed tb HD but, it not being used?
2.Image Number 2 shows once again that the new tb internal HD is recognized. However, in image 3, the HD 256GB drive is still shown underneath the new HD. Does this show that I am misssing something, some step, related to confirming the new HD should be fully reconized instaed of this old 256 that still remains?
3. In image 4, the SATA heading, shows the TB hardrive, However, in image 5, the 256GB drive is still being shown under the storage heading? Once again, seems like I've missed some simple step to make this all the same?
4.Why is the start up from boot up soooo slow now. I was never even close to this slow(slower than PC startup slow) before the new HD was installed. IS this common when updraging to a new HD? Doesn't seem right?
5. Why now all of a sudden when the computer finally boots up are certain programs automatically opening up, word, excel, when they have never opened up like this before?
Summary: 1. New memory issues, 2. Very slow start up, 3. Programs opening up automatically at startup.
Until I address these issues, I'm not going to worry about loking through and deleting heavy folders.

When firefox starts - Show a blank page
Home page - About blank

To make matters worse, it appears there's a bug in Lion Mail. It opens a compose window for every email I sent in the previous session. We're talking dozens and dozens of windows.

Changing which desktop program opens in..
About a month ago I upgraded my computer from Snow Leopard to Lion, but now there are some features that I had in Snow Leopard that I can't figure out how to change in Lion.
I heavily relied on Spaces for opening my programs and more importantly, opening up certain programs in certain desktops. I was able to go into my System Preferences and choose which program I wanted to open up in which desktop in Spaces. Now that I have Lion (and Spaces is gone) certain programs still open up in certain desktops, but I don't want that feature anymore. Am I stuck with programs opening up in those selected desktops, or is there somewhere in my computer that I can go to change that?Right click on the item in the Dock you want to change and select Options. There you can toggle off the open in this window feature.

I am so sick of my programs opening everytime I reboot from bootcamp back to OSX. I have tried to turn off opening programs but it just opens up 10 or 12 prgrams every time HEEEELP. Sometimes the machine is still starting up after 20 minutes.
It doesnt matter if I manually close all programs prior. Every reboot is the same

Have major problems with my laptop starting today. Im running Mac OSX 10.7.2. Starting today everytime i open a program (safari, itunes, iphoto) they open then instantely freeze up. Im forced to force quit them. Any ideas?
Haven't found an actual way to stop iTunes from crashing, but instead a clever way to avoid the whole problem.
From what I gather, it seems that many people share this issue, and iTunes crashing is a phenomenon that surfaced when iTunes v. 10.6 was issued. Therefore, going back to a pre-10.6 version of iTunes should fix whatever went wrong with the 10.6 update.
This does, therefore, require you to be able to get your hands on a pre-10.6 version of iTunes, whether it be by restoring it from a TimeMachine backup or some other means. My conjecture is that a freshly installed OS X Lion probably has such a version of iTunes.
iTunes 10.6 was, I believe, preceded by v. 10.5.3, which was released some time around 19th of January 2012 or so. Anyway, that 10.5.2 is the version of iTunes I went back to by restoring it from TimeMachine, which requires that you move the version of iTunes that you now have in your Applications folder – for which you'll have to change the file permissions of that iTunes – to the trash. Then you should be able to restore v. 10.5.3 from your TimeMachine back up.

I've been running iTunes 10.5.2 for about 20 minutes now and it hasn't crashed yet. I also seem to be able to sync it up with iOS 5.1... so far, so good..

Audio and video problem when streaming after flash player update
After i updated to the latest flash player (11.7) I have problems with video streaming. The video plays but after a while the audio stops and the video will keep playing but will also stop after a few seconds. Is the new flash player update at fault?
