On startup Firefox always loadsthe same two tabs (i) Privacy & security addons page and (ii) and "untitled"
3.6.9 always loads my homepage (expected) plus two additional tabs (i) Mozilla the privacy and security addon page and (ii)"untitled" tab <-unwanted behaviour.
Firefox can store multiple home pages, make sure that the other tabs that open are not listed as home pages. See [[how to set the home page]] for details.

I open Firefox in new windows for sites I want to go to. I don't open in Tabs. Each time I open an new firefox window and when I restore the windows I had open, each site has an additional tab (2-tabs). The first tab is the site I want up the second tab is NEW TAB. I have to go through 10 to 14 Firefox windowe to close each 2nd and additional NEW TAB to individually close the NEW TABS. I had this before updating to the current Firefox and thought upgrading would solve this issue, but it didn't.
I started in safe Mode. I have the default theme. Starting in safe mode still gave me the same problem. I went back to the normal Firefox and still had the same problem. Yesterday I restarted my computer for 11 Windows updates. I am not going to spend all day starting and restarting my computer and removing my History and whatever else. Firefox should have a direct contact to it's users, to assist them instead of having their users work for them as forum responders and trouble shooters. This has already taken up way too much of my time.
I will say in normal Firefox the additional NEW TAB had no URL in it, but it did have the 12 icons on the page. In Safe Mode it had a URL that began with Chrome and it had a blank page, it didn't have the 12 icons as in normal mode. I don't have anything Chrome on my computer. -
How do you stop the welcome to firefox 4 screen from coming up every time I open firefox? I get two tabs, one the welcome window, then my home page. How do you stop the bloody welcome screen?
Its not my home page, Like I said, I hae my home page also come up in a different tab (google) I also get the welcome to FF4 on a seperate tab. My home page is set to google. But I dont want the welcome screen to pop up

I want new tab to open to home page and why does firefox not have a simple check box in the options because I can't keep going through the long tedious procedure each time I install firefox. It is something that should be in the options tab , and I want to know why it isn't. I am totally frustrated with firefox and getting ready to switch.
You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

I have a Macbook Pro running 10.6.8 and Firefox 5.0.1
I have had this issue for a while and was hoping that the newest release would solve my problem, it didn't. I looked online for solutions, none of which fixed the issue
*Some pointed the finger at the extension Invisible Hand, which I never had.
*Some suggested putting Firefox into safe mode, this solves the problem, but since it stops me from installing any extensions this is not a workable solution.
*It was advised that I create a new profile, which I tried, this did absolutely nothing, the blank page appeared again after a short period of time and still can't be closed or clicked on, and this was before I added any add-ons. Which leads me to believe that the issue lies with Firefox.
Though on a side note when I quit Firefox, with only my current tab and the "tab that can't be closed" still open, Firefox notices that there are two tabs open and warns me that I am going to be closing both. The only work around I have found is to set the "tab that can't be closed" as an app tab for the current session, but when I open Firefox the next time, the app tab which was the "tab that can't be closed" can now be closed and a new "tab that can't be closed" appears as if it were a new blank tab, just like every other time I open Firefox.I started in safe Mode. I'm using Firefox 4.0 with TabMixPlus and AdBlock Plus on Windows XP Home, SP3. When I log in as a local administrator in Windows, new tabs open correctly and display a home page, but when my non-admin users (mother-in-law!) run Firefox, the application insists on a blank tab. It also shows a bizarre "nested" view with two sets of Windows title bars stacked at the top of the screen.
There's a weird orange "Firefox" dropdown menu atop the second one, and it's full of cool options... none of which does a thing to change this behavior.
Short of giving my mother-in-law admin privileges, how can I get Firefox to respect her GUI choices?New tabs open by default a blank tab, so it looks that you have an extension that opens the home page instead.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
In Firefox 4 [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode Safe mode] disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

Instead of opening on my homepage, firefox opens on blank page, it says new tab.
If I open it and open a second browser instance while the first is still open, the second instance will go to my home page as it should. I have tried reinstalling firefox.Sorry but this didnt help.
What happens is When I open firefox instead of going to my homepage which I set to Google.com via the options. It just opens a blank tab. Before if I opened firefox there was no tab unless I clicked on the little plus sign. It clearly states New Tab on the first thing when opened.I tried the

When I installed Firefox I inadvertently responded "yes" when asked if I wanted to "pin" my home page to the browser. l also designated that page (my Juno page) as my home page. So now whenever I open Firefox, two tabs appear with my identical home page. How do I fix it so that only one tab appears when I open Firefox?

I have google toolbar installed on my Firefox 4, whenever I start firefox two tabs open, one is my homepage gmail and the other is "google toolbar updated".

Since upgrading Firefox 4, at start up I receive a 'problem loading page' message, which states I have 'Working Offline' checked. (I didn't check it) I go to menu and uncheck it, there are 3 tabs loaded, all the Monzilla welcome pages (congrats you have upgraded etc etc), and NOT my home page. If I hit home icon it takes me to my home page, but this is a pain in the neck. I am not tech savvy so please do NOT suggest a complicated fix. I would prefer to go back to 3.6 if possible, unless there is a simple solution to this problem
I fixed it!!! Following advice from similar posts, I searched the hard drive for "sessionrestore.js" in my Firefox Profiles folder (you'll need to enable viewing of hidden files in Windows Explorer (Tools > Folder Options > View (then select Hidden files option) then Apply to all folders) to do this). I then shut down Firefox, deleted the file and restarted - my home page was correct and it didn't try to open my old session! Some other posts suggested deleting everything called "sessionrestore" in that folder, but I didn't need to.

Every time Firefox is launched, it opens with three tabs -- my home page, a month-old age from the slate website and the home page from the huffington post. EVERYTIME. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox and the problem persists.

Two tabs on launch, the correct home and "this is embarrasing" What to do
On launch, FF has two tabs. The front one is "Well, this is embarrassing. Firefox is haveing trouble recovering your windows and tabs..." The hidden one is the correct home page. How do i set firefox to open a new tab with a specified web page..?
Ive just installed firefox 5, and when i open a new tab, it open with a blank page. My previous version of firefox opened with my most visited pages as thumbnails. Can i revert to this setup, or can i set firefox 5 to open a new tab with a specified web page e.g google news...?
No this isnt the problem. I want it to open a new tab with Google Search page and not with the big showcase of all my other pages.
