On startup of IE 10 or 11 cursor continually flashes with accompanying circle icon and takes over all machine resources
Since the last week in November, evertime I start up IE, I get a flashing cursor with rotating blue circle. If I let it continue for a while - the whole machine becomes un-reponsive. I tried going back to IE 10 from IE 11 and that did not solve
the problem. Any thoughts?

Does the flashing cursor issue occur in other browser(if you have one)?
When this issue occurs again, I suggest you run task manager immediately, and view if there is a process takes a high CPU, Memory, etc.
Sometimes, an anti-virus can cause this issue, I kindly suggest you stop any anti-viruses for a test.
Or try using process monitor, check if there are some abnormal processes.(close any other programs to reduce the workload)

If you have installed a new hard drive , you will need to have formatted it in Disk Utility correctly. This may explain your problem.
Boot into your 10.6 Install disk again at the top menubar > Utilities > select Disk utility and in there select your new hard drive, and select the tab Erase and choose to make the format as Mac OS Extended Journaled. When that is finished look in the main window to make sure that the partition map scheme says GUID Partition Table.
Now go to the Restore tab and reinstall from your backup. -

I uninstalled Firefox using uninstall programs from the control panel.
I then tried to run the Firefox installer from the website, it would open the download window, then the "run the install" window. After clicking "Run", the window just closes. So I attempted to just download the install file, and clicked "Save". I tried to save the file to several different locations. A download window would open, and run, but the file would not be there.
I was running 3.6.12, the current version. And that is was I tried to install. After that failed, I also tried to install the beta 4, with the same results.
No error messages have opened, and I have run scans for malware/spyware, and didn't see anything that jumped out as a problem. I am running Win Explorer right now. At end of timeline cursor returns to beginning and starts over?
I am sure there is an easy fix to this very minor issue.
When I get to the end of any timeline the cursor automatically jumps back to the beginning and starts over.
How do I get it to just stop at the end of the timeline?
It used to stop and just started doing this somewhow? To my knowlege I have not made any changes to sequence settings, user preferences, etc.

My macbook pro is running very slow with some strange mouse and window movements. The trackpad is very unresponsive and when responding the cursor moves on its own and/or very erratically. When on safari the window suddenly zooms in or highlights words and looks them up via dictionary. I currently have a wireless mouse connected and I am still having the same problems.
I fee like I may have a virus or my laptop is perhaps being accessed remotely. All of the sharing options are unchecked.

Very worried!!Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo). -
My pro book is actn strange......the cursor and rainbow ball sticks on screens and a bar code takes over...everything freezes and I have to force close but it seems to be happening more frequently and getting worse......can anyone help please..getting really worried
What do you mean by "a bar code takes over?" If your cursor is degenerating into something that looks like a bar code, you have very serious problems. Possibly hardware problems. Try running Apple Hardware Test. If that comes up with problems, contact Apple for service. If not, it doesn't necessarily mean there aren't any hardware issues, but you'll need to move on to other possible cures. Test in safe mode (hold down the shift key at startup) and in a different user account and report the results here. If you continue having problems in both those situations, try reinstalling the system.

Strange things happened since my mbp 13' (MD-101) was upgraded to 10.8.4 ----------- time icon, battery icon,and language icon (these icons can be moved when held Command key and drag) cannot be loaded on startup, but they still can be loaded when you get into System Preferences and manually turn them on, as well as iStat Menus
However, some other icons didn't bother, things like BetterTouchTool, NewsBar. They are immovable!! I guess it is the key factor that the icon is movable or not making the difference.
Someone please lend me a helping hand?

I've almost despaired to resolve it . Thanks for your help!I have a similar issue. When the computer goes into "Hibernate" mode -- that is, it loses power while sleeping and it writes the contents of it's memory to disk in order to boot into that exact configuration when woken up -- many of my icons when Apple-Tab'ing to another application appear as static. They look like a slightly colorized version of the "static snow" you see when tuning into a station that doesn't exist on a UHF antenna television. Also, icons in Chrome such as web sites "favorite icons" or favicon.ico (the icons that appear in the URL bar and bookmarks) will be scrambled in the same fashion , at first , until the actual icon is loaded.
Between this, my menu bar and finder icons not displaying, and being unable to boot into safe mode, I'm getting quite ******. I have no idea what the **** is going on with my Macbook Pro. The issue of the scrambled icons actually existed prior to installing an SSD and doing a fresh install of Mountain Lion. I may end up throwing in the towl and re-installing the operating system but I'm sure SOMETHING will happen. It seems the latest update, 10.8.2, is absolute garbage.
What the ****, Apple? And I really don't want to take the computer to the morons at the Apple Store. They are not "geniuses" by any measure. -
I can't startup to an external 800 fire wire drive loaded with 10.5?
I have a Power Mac G5 with dual 1.8 GHz cpu's, 2.5 gigabytes of ram. Boot rom version 5.1.5f0 running OSX 4.11. And a Power PC G4
Laptop with one 1,67 Ghz cpu, with 1.5 GB of ram. Boot rom version 4.9.1f1, running OSX 10.5.7. My problem is that I can't get my new 1TB Western Digital external hard drive seen when you hold down the option key on either system?
I formatted it with a fresh OSX 10.5 I bought the family pack for the operating system so I'm legal and this was the 2nd computer to be loaded. The installation was complete but on reboot it went to my internal drive so I never was able to set up the internet settings and such to this startup drive. It will show up in finder and also under the system pref, under startup drive. So when you select it under that it still will just reboot to the internal drive?
And the option button on startup still just see's the internal drive? I've spent many days and nights trying to figure out what I've done wrong? So I ended up at a Mac store with the external hard drive and it booted up perfect! So what's up? The one thing that I noticed was a different graphic. On the option thing my computer shows up with a small drive icon and a watch looking thing that takes about 30 seconds to turn into a curser and at the mac store "bam" all drives showed up and it was larger graphic and just the curser.
So what's my problem on my other 2 systems? Possibly firmware? I tried that also and everything above the ones that I currently have says that the upgrades don't apply to my machines in some form or another? Also I assume that a 1TB drive was a pipe dream back then sooo? But the OS X updates should have taken care of that?
I have a new Imac 24 inch in a box, but I won't even open it until I can get this problem figured out! I want to condense my G4 and G5 info on a boot-able external hard drive. And I want to have my new Imac clean of all the clutter. Thanks' in advance for anyone that can help me! However (and I've just found this), not all Western Digital drives are fully boot-compatible across both Intel and PowerPC Macs. Check out this table - you may find your drive just isn't supported:

firefox crashes instantly on startup. i double-click on the icon and i instantly get a crash report asking to restart or quit. if i hit restart another crash report instantly comes up. im not sure what t do here

When mousing over text, the cursor flickers constantly (with every letter passed) from arrow to i-beam and back. The problem occurs in both MS Word 2011 and Pages. Any idea of how to solve this annoying problem will be much appreciated. System 10.10.1 on a MacPro (Late 2013)
The mouse is controlled by the OS so don't guess any app other than a mouse driver or OS X itself would be able to cause this sort of flicker issue.
Have you seen the following and is it what you are seeing? Maybe you could make a movie (Quicktime is great for this this to make a screen recording) - but not sure how to attach a movie to these discussions as mine is grayed out and can't be selected (to the right of the insert image). Startup display flashes Apple logo, circle w/ line ,question mark folder
I attempted to install OS 10.6 SL and during initial install and restart my MBP display started flashing the grey Apple logo, circle with angle line thru it, and file folder icon with question mark in center. I can not get my MBP to restart. It just keeps flashing the symbols. as described.
After trying to get the system to start either with the install disc DVD or from the HD, without any success, I tried something a little desperate. I replaced the HD with the one that was installed originally. Of course, this HD was reformatted without any system. It, again, tried to start from the install disc DVD, as directed, but with no solution. After a gray logo screen for a couple of minutes it stopped the startup process, but did not shut down, I was still left with a black screen and nothing happening, until I hit a key and the whole thing repeated itself. I have since gone back and reinstalled the larger HD with OX 10.5 installed on it, but with no success. Obviously, it doesn't seem to be anything on the HD. If this was a PC I would think that I needed to reset the BIOS, but I am not that familiar with the ROM. Any further suggestions?

The cursor has changed to a dot with a circle around it; how can I get my normal cursor back?
The cursor in the main part of Firefox has changed to a dot with a circle around it. This only occurs in Firefox and only in the page display area. I still have the arrow in the tool bar and tabs area. When moving the cursor around in the display area the dot/circle is accompanied by a blinking arrow.
It's the quicktime plug-in causing the problem. If you disable it, your cursor will return to normal. Happened to me, and fixed it by doing that.

"No brace at cursor to match" with MacOS X

I am having a problem with JDev code editor and MacOS X... it hapens in 9.0.3.x and 9.0.4.
When trying to close braces [], I can never get the ] caracter as I always get the error "No brace at cursor to match".
I am using spanish keyboard.
Any ideas on how to disable this checking?

In addition to other possible problems and hassles with the 10.6.5 to 10.6.6 Server update, this same issue with AFP you referenced in your previous update may happen again with 10.6.6.
If shared folders are not appearing on client machines, be sure to stop, then start up, the AFP service in Server Admin before doing anything else. (Otherwise, you'll waste 4 valuable hours of your life like I did thinking that it was a permissions problem or some other complex issue possibly related to security changes and workgroup manager modifications).
Like many others running this server update, I also encountered the issue with the "update already in progress, please wait" upon the first attempt to run it. After waiting 6 hours, I rebooted our server and then used software update again. This time the update installed properly, but, apparently, AFP needs to be shut down and then restarted after the required reboot following the update install.
Thanks for posting previously otherwise I would have lost even more time!

The battery is charging.It sounds like your hard drive is bad. If you can see it in Disk Utility you may still be able to get your files off of it. If you have one of the MacBooks with the removable battery it's very easy to put in a new hard drive.

Put your old hard drive in an external case and after you've formatted your new hard drive and installed your operating system on it plug in your old hard drive and see if it is recognized by the new system. If so then transfer whatever files you want to the new hard drive -

My Problem:
I have an input text field that is named in the properties box as 'numberOfKids'.
When the program is executed, and a delete or backspace is pressed the input textfield goes blank
and any calculations that use 'numberOfKids' shows NaN.
I have trapped the NaN and undefined so that a numeric 0 shows up instead of a blank.
There are two problems:
First problem:
The cursor is to the left of the zero, so the first number inputted by the user is 10x larger than what they want. 0 becomes 10.
Question: How do I get the cursor to move to the right of the 0?
Second Problem:
When I manually move the cursor to the right of the 0 and input a number, say 4, it shows up as 04.
Question 2: How do I delete the leading numeric zero in the input textfield?

I'm lost!
I go back to a brand new flash file to try and implement the textfields as a stand alone test document. I have lost the concept I think.
I created on the stage of a blank .fla file 4 text fields, 2 input and 2 dynamic. I gave them an instance name in the properties box. I use this instance name.text to find the value of the field. I use the parseInt to put that value into a numeric variable for calculation. The results are put to the appropriate textfield.
All seems to work except one of my input text fields. I use the value of this field to calculate:
revisedValue = parseInt(numberOfKids.text);
revisedValue = revisedValue*(-100);
The problem now is that if the numberic '2' is inputted into numberOfKids, numberOfKids.text shows up as 200 and a trace shows up as '2NaN'.
Flash is logical and consistant, I must conform to it but I'm in the dark.
