On the left side of the display (MBP mid 2012) suddenly just stripes
Hi!
While I was working there suddenly appeared just vertical stripes (width about 3") on the left side of the display. I read a lot about display-problems with the MBP 2011 but not with the 2012... The crazy thing is when I took a screenshot to post here you couldn't see anything and the display just seems fine. Am I right thinking that the MBP is fine but the display is broken? Many thanks in advance for your thoughts, i'm desperate...
Best wishes from Leipzig,
Konstantin
Konstantin,
Sorry to hear about your display problem.
" I took a screenshot to post here you couldn't see anything"
Yes because a screenshot is taken directly from the output of the graphics chip.
"Am I right thinking that the MBP is fine but the display is broken?"
Yes, probably a delamination of the electronics that drives the vertical array.

i just planned to install windows 7 on my MBP Mid-2012 using VMware Fusion,so i am bit panic about viruses and malware's affecting through vmware,is there any way to avoid from this??

virus protection in vmware or on my running OS X 10.8.2??plz help me out
First, you can install Microsoft's Security Essentials in the Win 7 VM and keep it up-to-date. Second, you can turn off Sharing in Fusion's System Settings to keep the VM environment separate from your Mac. Third, you can look into Sophos Anti-Virus http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-antivirus-for-mac-home-ed ition/download.aspx for the Mac host. -
The left side of my display/screen is darker than the right side.
Running a 27 inch, Mid 2011 iMac. Left side of screen is obviously darker than the right side. Any one else have this happen? Any solutions?
Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service. Either the display is bad, the GPU has failed, or the display backlighting has failed.

Is the power cable from the display required to be plugged into my MBP for my display to work. Recently had work done on the display (power supply replaced twice, glass replaced twice). Also since I got it back from repair my system goes to sleep sleeps even though I have it set not to. Frustrated
awesome, so you sound like you know what your going on about. im guessing its a Software fault tbh, because its like the phone is dead.. very upsetting..but with it not being the screen if they dont ask me to replace it and to send it off for repair what can i say as to a loan phone, mind a ease a little bit now i will just now wait for tommorrow to see what happens thank you

What is the details specification of the internal Mic of MBP mid-2012?
I've been wondering, what is the specs of the internal mic? It sure is great for normal chat or facetiming, but it doesn't sound very good for studio-recording tier.
The built-in mic is a very tiny mic. About 1/4" overall and the actual capsule is even smaller. In the MBP models that I am familiar with, it's located under the left speaker grille. As a single mic, it can only generate a mono signal but the final data stream is stereo with identical L & R channels. Given its size and location under the grille it's an amazing performer but you cannot expect it to match a studio mic.
In AudioMidi Setup you can adjust the built-in mic's sample rate, bit rate and gain to some extent. However, I have never found this particularly useful.
If you are doing studio recordings (or anything where you require fidelity and/or true stereo), you need to get yourself a couple of good external microphones. MacBook Pros used to have a multipurpose stereo analog audio input (up to the mid-2012 models) but newer models do not. Depending on the model you have, you may be able to use the analog audio input or you may have to get a USB mic, adapter or mixer. -
MBP mid 2012 crashing, is it the video card?
Hello. I have an mid 2012 MBP with an Intel 4000 graphics card. I think it is causing the computer to crash.
I recently re-installed Civ 5 which ran great last fall. At first it ran OK, then after a few hours of game time my system crashed during a time when the monitor went to sleep (I was walking my baby). This happened a few more times then crashed while open. The system froze and the image was overlayed with some squares consisting of black, green, and lavender bars. At first this only happened when the game was open. The when I tried to reboot I got the beep-beep-beep alarm that means bad RAM(?). So I ran an AHT and it came back fine for RAM and CPU if I understood how to interpret it correctly. Also the system crashed once or twice when the game was not running.
I have tried a partial RAM reboot, a system controller reset, upgrading to 8 GB RAM, and partitioning my hard drive and installing the game in the other partition. If I knew how to get crash logs for the ?panic kernel? I would. Actually, I'm trying to get into code writing and IT so this is pretty interesting. Here is the report i got from EtreCheck

By upgrading my MacBook Pro mid 2012 computer to 16 GB I will have 2 - 4GB Ram chips unused. Can I put those 2 - 4GB chips into my MacBook Pro 2010 computer to replace the 2 2GB chips that are installed in that, which would upgrade its memory also.
You can install them but they will not work. The RAM specifications for those two models are different.
The 2010 MBP RAM specifications are: 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
The 2012 MBP RAM specifications are: 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

Can i replace the macbook pro (mid 2012) battery
myself or have to take it to service center because its buit in??
Additional ram uses a negligible amount of energy so the usage issue is more likely related to the applications being run and things like the screen brightness level, radio, i.e., Bluetooth, wireless, devices and their load.
And batteries do degrade over time so watching them is usually the easiest thing to do.
Also, look at your charging habits...deep discharging of a Lithium-Ion battery on a regular basis is actually detrimental to the life of the battery. Despite some of the guidance you will see around here, a Lithium-Ion battery that is only discharged to 50% before being recharged will have three to four times the lifetime of a battery discharged to shutdown. Leaving the battery on the charger most of the time does not hurt it, just take it off and discharge half way once or twice a month so it gets some exercise.
Leaving the MBP on the charger will not overcharge the battery...they have circuitry that stops the charging when the battery hits 100% and then restarts to top off the battery when the charge trickles down to 93-95%.
So, just keep an eye on the usage patterns and see how it is doing. -
Crashing/Freezing MBP Mid-2012
Hi guys,
I've been having issues with my mid-2012 MBP freezing/crashing while also having the 3 beep issue. I started a topic here about a month ago about this issue and took y'alls advice. I took my MBP to the Apple Store for diagnostics multiple times and every time they were unable to replicate the issue nor did their hardware diagnostics show any failing parts. They were nice enough to replace my logicboard free of charge because of my unusual problem but less than a week after it was replaced the same problems started to happen again. I don't think it's a software issue because my MBP crashed/froze while I was doing a clean install of OS X.
As far as the issue my MBP would get pixelated and then sometimes the pixelation would go away and I would be left with a locked up screen. Other times the pixelation would just stay, I would get the 3 beeps, and my MBP would randomly reboot. Sometimes after I do a hard reboot my MBP doesn't even bootup and I just get the 3 beeps. Also, sometimes my screen will flicker before it freezes/pixelates.
Here's an image of one the pixelations that I get:
I would occasionally get pink pixelations that run vertically on the screen as well.
Has anyone had a similar issue? Even though the hardware passed should I just invest in new RAM to see if that fixes the problem? I currently have the stock RAM that came with my MBP (2 4GB Hynix sticks).
Thanks a bunch guysYou should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

Istat menus version 3.23 not working correctly on MBP mid 2012
I purchased iStat menus for my MBP (no r) mid 2012 and it does not seem to work right. It seems to install ok without any messages popping up but once installed where I get the chosen options onto the menu bar I have a problem.
When I click on say CPU or any of the others, a window shows the details but when I then click in that window, at the bottom on EDIT I get a message saying:
Tried uninstalling iSta menus and reinstalling but no go.
Can anyone help?
ThanksYou are on the other side of the world! I don't use iStat. No need to.
The only thing I can suggest is to either trash its .plist file if it has one or trash it altogether and reinstall iStat. -
MBP (Mid-2012) Shuts Down While Attempting to Start Up (HardDrive I/O Error)
Hey guys,
I've been having some issues with my mid-2012 MBP (8 GB's RAM, 750 GB HardDrive). It has the latest version of OS X Yosemite installed.
About a month ago, I turned on my MBP, typed in my password and it began loading the operating system. This usually take 30-45 seconds or so for the loading bar to fill up and the desktop to show. And then maybe another minute or two once the desktop is visible for the "startup process" to finish in the background so I can open apps quickly and efficiently.
However, this time, the Macbook took about 10 minutes, got halfway done and I was forced to give it a hard shutdown. I then tried unsuccessfully to start the system again and each time it wouldn't load past a certain point. It then miraculously started working after letting it cool for a few hours.
Fast fwd a month later, my computer seemed much slower than usual. I always was checking activity monitor and my file cache was taking up 4gb of ram at times. My computer would slow down to the point where I had to give it a hard restart often.
Then last week, I started the computer, typed in my password and it started to load. After a minute of trying to load, it shuts off. It no longer loads to the desktop, it simply shuts down after every attempt. So I ran some diagnostics.
While doing the Single-User Mode...it spit back out that I have a HardDrive I/O Error. Also, my hard drive is not mounted when I run disk utility.
All my files are backup online and on external HD. Do you think I need a new internal hard drive? Suggestions?A hard drive I/O error means that the hard drive is completely damaged and cannot be used anymore, so you need a new hard drive. As you have a backup, you will not lose any data.
It is up to you to replace the hard drive yourself or to take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller. The price difference is not very high, but if you do it yourself, you can choose the hard drive you want to install (7200 rpm hard drives will give you a bit more performance). If you have decided to do this yourself, buy the hard drive at OWC or Crucial.
After getting the new hard drive, use OS X Recovery (hold Command, Alt and R keys while your Mac is starting up) to restore the backup. -
Brand new to Mac and having some issues with my MBP mid 2012
I am hoping someone can offer some advice to me, I am about ready to tear my hair out. I bought a mid 2012 MBP from best buy open box for $2000, it is the model with the 750gig hard drive and 8 gigs of ram. I has Mountain Lion on it and I have done all the software upgrades. I do not have a lot of software installed on it but it does not seem to be running right. I have had it about three weeks or a month and it appeared to be running okay most of the time.
I tried putting parallels 8 on it so I could run some of my windows apps and I installed windows 8 and nothing else and it brought the laptop to a stand still it was crawling so slow I unistalled the software. The past few days I have noticed that when I open the lid and it wakes from sleep the keyboard and mouse are unresponsive for upto a minute.
However today has been the worse by far. I am trying to copy some files about 300 gigs worth from a external drive to my hard drive so I can reformat the drive and while it is copying I am not able to do anything, surf the web, use word or anything because anything I try to do locks the computer up for several minutes or I have to force quit. The voice dictation feature no longer works when I press fn twice, nothing happens at all.
Is this normal, I mean I am very disappointed that a $2000 computer cant copy some files and surf the internet or type a word doc at the same time. Do I have a bad mac or am I expecting to much????? I am a therapist and use this laptop to take and store all my client notes I bought a mac because I need something dependable and reliable.
If this is not normal what do you suggest? That would be your best bet. There is a reason someone returned it. Most people that buy a Mac, except me, never return them. Even if they don't run right. So for someone to return that unit they either didn't care for Mac OS X (that is why I return the first 2 I had) or there was something very wrong with it.

That is what I am thinking as well Shootist007. I am a best buy silver reward member and I have 60 days instead of 30 on all returns and I am thinking I may return it, pay the extra $200 and get a brand new one. -
My 13" MBP MD 101 / A1278 / 9,2 / Mid 2012 is still in production and it is performing like a windows pc; super slow after updating it to Yosemite.I can't afford to upgrade its HDD to SSD and 4GB RAM to 16GB.
Tried everything found on internet, nothing got successful in making it fast as it was once with mountain lion. I hope I could have Yosemite's features and leopard's responsiveness and stability.
I think Apple guys have designed Yosemite only for SSDs only. They should design OS X according to every mac's different hardware, like if I have a spinning old hard drive it should mould itself to the capabilities of it and not demand responsiveness of an SSD.
Please do let me know if anyone have brilliant new idea other than found on the internet.
Problem description:
My MBP acting like a windows pc; running really very slow after Yosemite update

MacBook Pro Retina Display 15" Mid 2012 - Glitches
Hi I have MBPr mid 2012 and encountering this problem this morning.
anyone know what's wrong with my mbp? is it something with the OSX or is it hardware issues? It could be a screen problem or a GPU problem or even a connection problem between the screen and the logic board.
You need to take your machine to an Apple Store or an AASP and have them diagnose the problem and give you an estimate for repair (unless you purchased AppleCare - then the 'fix' would be free). If it's a GPU or screen problem the replacement costs can be quite dear.
Good luck,

Mini displayport not recognized in Windows 7 on MBP mid 2012
Hi
I have a MBPro mid 2012 with windows 7 pro installed. While i'm in windows my mini displayport is not recognized when i connect it to my smart tv. The connector i use is a Logilink Mini Displayport to HDMI. In Mavericks it works fine though. Anyone can point me in the direction of the right driver to install in windows?
ThanksHi Chocolame,
I have the same issue as yours, and looked into this thread
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4904594?start=0&tstart=0
I believe it solved their problem. I am currently downloading Bootcamp 4.0xxxx and hope it'll solve my problem.
Give it a try and let us know if it works!
Thanks
