On Tools-Options I keep on getting ; Script:Chrome//browser/content/preferences/advanced.js.259 ,how do I get rid of this ?

Every time I use the Options in Tools I keep on getting the above statement,is there something not working correctly ,if so how do I correct it ?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:
* [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
* [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

JavaScript errors such as the one you are getting are normally due to a problem with an add-on. Follow the procedure in the [[troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article to identify the culprit.

  • Whenever I try to "clear recent history" in Firefox 6.0, I get a messages saying a script ("chrome://browser/content/sanitize.js:133") is busy or has stopped responding. How can I remedy this?

Whenever I try to "clear recent history," which I try to do after every browsing session, I get a message saying "A script on this page may be busy or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete. Script: chrome://browser/content/sanitize.js:133" I used to get this periodically before I upgraded to Firefox 6.0 but now I get it every time I try to clear my recent history. This happens on both my home and work computers and I'm using Firefox 6.0 and a Windows XP Professional SP2 operating system on each computer. How can I remedy this?

That can be caused by clearing the cookies via [[Clear Recent History]].
    * Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" > [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings
    * Firefox > History > Clear Recent History or Tools > Clear Recent History
Try to exclude the cookies to see if that helps.<br />
Let all cookies expire when you close Firefox to remove unwanted cookies and keep the ones with an allow exception.<br />
Make sure that you do not clear the "Site Preferences" as that will remove all exceptions.
    * Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"
If you use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the cookies then Firefox also tries to clear the cookies from plugins like Flash and starts a plugin-container process for each plugin and that can add extra time and can cause an unresponsive script error to appear.

  • I try to restore my bookmarks from a json file but i get "warning: unresponsive script - Script: chrome://browser/content/browser.js:3580" message - please help

I have no idea why my bookmarks wont restore. I am confident that I even tried restoring them at the time of creation of the json file to make sure that they worked, and after i was confident i left them for a month or two then tried to restore them, but it does not work at all. I get Script: chrome://browser/content/browser.js:3580 (unresponsive script error msgs) and whether i click continue or stop script the bookmarks do not change. Please help - there is a lot of bookmarks there i was relying on.

Not sure if this is appropriate, but I have a similar problem. Yesterday I got an update from MS to my new Win 7 machine. Now all my bookmarks are gone except the three I have in the toolbar.
I have tried following the instructions here but it's not working. First: I can find the bookmark backup files, but don't have any html files there. They are listed as "bookmark-dates-number-a series of letters and numbers, then ==.json."
I'm confused as to what to do next.

Try to delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

  • Firefox Version 36.0 Hanging with odd Script: chrome://browser/content/places/browserPlacesViews.js Errors / Lost all bookmarks including Sync.

Hello - Yesterday 4 different PC's updated automatically to Firefox Version 36.0, they are all Windows 7 x64 Systems with the latest patches, one of them is a work / corporate PC running a slightly older version (34 I believe).
Since the update all of my bookmarks have been lost and seems that sync got wiped out as well. I had a few thousand bookmarks all organized in folders and they are all gone. Whenever I click on the bookmark menu item firefox will hang and eventually give me the following error with different numbers at the end of the line (varies on each system as well as the same system). See attached for an example.
    Script: chrome://browser/content/places/browserPlacesViews.js
Even if I start Firefox in Safemode I get the same results / behavior (the hanging) I can't even access the bookmarks menu to try and restore them from a backup. When I do that Firefox will hang and never come back, I have to go in to task manager and end the task.
I've tried "Refreshing" at work I tried uninstalling / installing the newest as well as a version 35 version of firefox and have the same exact issue. I removed all of the plugins, I've even tried a full on reset of firefox and have had no luck whatsoever .
It appears that I have lost about 10 years of various bookmarks but seem to have a somewhat up to date copy on one system with Chrome but Firefox won't even allow me to import the bookmarks as it will just hang.
I have Malwarebytes running on 3 of the systems, it hasn't found anything, I also have Microsoft Security essentials running and did full scans of each system and haven't found anything, there isn't any kind of add on / plug in that I can see that is causing this
Please help as I am now in a huge bind at work without all of my bookmarks!!!

Ok this did not resolve the issue, I downloaded the Places Maintenance Add on and ran it with all of the options selected, I also verified that this is not a permissions issue and ran chkdsk on the disk.
I am unable to make a backup of the bookmarks it just hangs and never makes the backup, I can't even export them either.
I went to the next step and renamed the places.sqlite file and restarted firefox which did restore my bookmarks from a previous backup but I still can't click on the bookmark menu option without firefox locking up .
How do I resolve this and how do I get my data back in to Sync?
If this file is corrupted does that mean that all of my linked browsers downloaded the same corrupt file from Sync? How do I resolve that, is there anyway to recover my history from any of my other PCs?
All that I did was when I was logged out of sync but want to know how I go about getting the info back in to Sync.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile:

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files

  • Clumsiness & Script: chrome://browser/content/places/treeView.js:873

Warning: Unresponsive script: A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding Script: chrome://browser/content/places/treeView.js:873
Yes it disappear when I go in safe mode but come back as soon as i get it normal.
I noticed it happen for instance when I switch from tab to tab so that firefox has to resume displaying the page or downloading the content therefore when I'm scrolling, the best example is facebook which is sometimes unusable and everything running flash.
It's not clear however, it doesn't happen always.
Another thing that might not help it could be my habit to run it keeping 20+ tabs open, it yes make it slower but capable till a few weeks ago of keeping its speed with such a load (the main reason why I use it instead of Crome).
As time goes by however it seemed to get more and more clumsy. What's the cause?
I'd really appreciate any suggestion to lighten it up a bit.
    Thank you in advance

    Thanks a lot jscher2000,
Yes, I got the sidebar open and fxChrome as an extension that could make some change, yet I don't see why it should interfere.
I wanted to continue talking about the so-called ''clumsiness''. The behaviour in the beginning is sostantially the same as that resulting in the script error. It consists in Firefox freazing and breafly ceasing to respond (few seconds). Every episode is followed by a clearly increase of my laptop cpu usage and fan spin (it started happening a few months ago, getting worst and worst and I'm giving that it might be caused by either a possible weight in the latter version of the software or a quite probable decrease cpu ventilation).
It keeps happening every few minutes, it's not clear why, as I said it seems firefox is more likely to do that everytime you stop (leaving it open checking for instance your mail) and then resume using it ; I'm beginning to think to something pertaining the memory access (I haven't cleaned the chace yet and I don't remember the last time i deleted the coockies)
    About your second post:
It says: ''Protected Mode implementation allows Flash Player to run as a low integrity process with several additional restrictions that prohibit the runtime from accessing sensitive resources...Adobe is making it more difficult for an attacker to turn a simple bug into a working exploit''.
I've got Adblock and Noscript running, is their job anywhere near to that of the Flash Protected Mode implementation?
PS: I monitored Firefox's behaviour before replying (I had part of it already written so I hope things din't get too churned up). I reinstalled fxChrome it seems happen fewer times. I keep thinking it's something about the memory usage.

  • Script: chrome://browser/content/places/browserPlacesViews.js:229

    Greetings!
I run Firefox on Windows XP3 Home, and I would appreciate your advice on some problems I have.
    When I click on Bookmarks, nothing happens for about 30 secs, then the following message appears;
"Script: chrome://browser/content/places/browserPlacesViews.js:229", and I can access my Bookmarks, but only once before the above is repeated. How can I solve this problem?
Also, I had previously imported my bookmarks, but they now show as two separate blocks, each in alphabetical listing. How can I combine them into a single listing?
Finally, I have a listing of ten Most Recently Bookmarked items where the tenth item vanishes when I enter a new bookmark, and none of these new items appears on the permanent list of bookmarks. How can I solve these issues?
Thank you very much for your help!
    With best wishes
    Aileks

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

    How do I stop this?

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

When I "clear recent history" it hangs and "script:chrome://browser/content/sanitize.js:136" comes up and I have to stop the script to continue. This started within the last week.

On Windows, the file path is:
    %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\%PROFILENAME%\downloads.sqlite
I renamed the file, but it did not work.
What I did was uncheck all of the checkboxes in "Clear Recent History..."
By one checkbox at a time, I cleared each item.
When I reached the "Cookies" item, I got the unresponsive script/JavaScript error, so I left that unchecked and cleared the rest of the items.
After I cleared everything else, I returned to the "Cookies" item, and I was able to clear it now.
