On what occasions do the key figures become attributes of characteristics?

hi all,
On what occasions do the key figures become attributes of characteristics? can anyone explain me with an example.

Hi,
When we create key figures also we can define the keyfigre as attribute, in the additional poperties tab by selecting attribute check box.
(or)
Once we created KF and activated, the same can be placed in Char attribute tab. In the Char creation, we can assign attributes as per our requirement. So the attributes may be be char/kf.

  • What is diffrernce between key figures and characteristics?

    Hi all,
I am a newbie to SAP BI....i am doing Masters in ERP(SAP)....I have confusion about what is basic difference between key figures and characteristics?
Why do we have to define attributes in characteristics?
If any one can refer me a thread that answers my questions or explain with very lucid example I will highly appreciate it.....please answer this question as I have just spend 4-5 months studying BI and have not really implemented in the Industry but we do have access to SAP BI where we perform tutorials....
Also please let me know the links to materials where basics of BI are explained in a very simple way.....
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Rahul

KF is anything which can quantitatively measured: Amount, Number, Value, Price... whatever you want to measure is called Key Figure. This key figures are also called KPI (Key Performance Indicator). If you want to know the number of sales orders, the number of deliveries, the amount of deliveries... all are key figures
And to add to that, key figures are also divided into two:
Cumulative KF: Like I said, amount, value, price
Non-cumulative KF, this is different kind of key figures which shouldn't be summed up, for example: Age, Inventory, Number of Employees.  When  you measure this key figures, you don't add the age of every body, because that doesn't make any sense, but adding the sum of all deliveries, or adding all Sales does make sense, that is the difference between the two key figures.
Characteristics: are anything which couldn't be quantitatively measured: material, customer, plant, employee ID and so on...
Aways, in BI you measure the KF against the Key figures..
    thanks.

  • Fiscal year in the columns outside the key figure structure

    Dear Experts
I have a report requirement to show the keyfigures in the columns from year 1 to year 10 and in each year there are 4 keyfigures each restricted to 1 quarter for 4 quarters.
So, there are too many keyfigures to create.
I am using fiscal year in the columns outside the Key figure structure containing the keyfigures restricted at each of 4 quarters.
So, when the report displays, all the 10 years will automatically be displayed.
The problem is one of the 4 quarter level keyfigures needs to be restricted by calendar year.
How can I read what is the fiscal year for each column at runtime so that I can reference this value to determine the calendar year ?
As you know, each FY spans 2 Calendar Years. So, i need to restrict this on the 4th keyfigure by calendar year but while having the FY outside the keyfigure structure i can get all the FY, I am not sure how to access this value at runtime so that eg.
if FY for column 1 is 2010, i can set calendar year to be 2010 to 2011.
Hope you can give me some clues.
    Thanks you Gurus!
    Best regards
    John

    Dear Sunnybt
Copy Riyes,  I find your response interesting. Please could you elaborate your idea of using condition in more detail.
    Sorry for my late response.
Allow me to clarify my statement, which you are right, is unclear.
    By :
"if the current QuarterFY is less than the current QuarterFY"
    I mean :
eg. user enters FY range : 2009 to 20NN  (eg. 2017)
    KF_column1_FY2009_Q1______KF_column2_FY2009_Q2____KF_column3_FY2009_Q3______KF_column_FY2009_Q4______KF_column_FY2010_Q1______KF_column2_FY2010_Q2____KF_column3_FY2010_Q3______KF_column_FY2010_Q4_____KF_column_FY_NNNN_Q1
For each column, where the FY can be any year range entered by user,
the Text Description of the Column should show either 'Actual' or 'Plan' based on what is the current FY Quarter at runtime.
If the FY Quarter (eg. 1st column is 200101) is before current FY Quarter (i.e 201103), then the Description of this column should be "Actual" , else "Plan".
In my current design, I am unable to use customer exit text variable to meet this requirement.
So, I like to check with you for fresher ideas.
If not , I would use a workbook, which I am avoiding as the user needs to drilldown and I believe drilldown is not possible in workbooks where report layout needs to be rigid or cell positions fixed. Of course, unless there is a way out of this which I do not know.
    Best regards

  • Setting the values of the key figures

    Hi,
I have a problem in a query. There is a variable chosen with a range for 0calmonth. For the two of the key figures, I need to restrict the key figure to the first period and for the other key figure I need to restrict to the last period. However, what I need more is that if in the restricted period there is no value for that key figure it should get the first period that it has a value. For example:
    Our variable set as: 02.2006   -  05.2006
    And our data is
         CalMonth          KeyFig1     KeyFig2
    A     02.2006                 0            7
    A     03.2006                 0           8
    A     04.2006                 4            9
    A     05.2006                  5            0
I want to see in the query as:
                  KeyFig1    KeyFig2
    A              4                9
When I add the results with first value and last value, I can see these figures in the general results section. But this time I have to hide the key figures and show only the results section.
Any idea on preparing such a query?
    Thanks in advance...

  • How can i do to see the master and text values of the Key figure 0UNIT

    Hi gurus,
How can i do to see the master and text values of the Key figure 0UNIT, please step by step, i m in the key figure 0UNIT but i want to see if the UNIT  for example BX = BOX, something like this is that i want to check,  thanks!

If you look at the unit tables, you will see the values and texts.  It's in SPRO, not in RSA1.  My access is limited on my system here, but the documentation says to go to t-code CUNI.  I believe in that tcode you can look at all of the unit equivalencies and what each unit's text is ..... like an ea means each; KG = Kilogram; etc...
I am on an 3.x system, so in SPRO I go to BW CIG=>General Settings=>Check units of measurement.

  • Can we filter the Key figure ( by not using Bex Conditions)

    Hello Friends,
I have a requirement in which I am passing the result of one query "A" to another query "B" ( using replacement path). Also there is a requirement to filter the keyfigure of the query "A"
    Problems I face:
    1) If I use Conditions, it does'nt filter the actual rows from the info cube, but just the query result
    2) Hence when I pass the query result of "A" to query "B", it sends more records which I dont need.
    Question:
Hence is it possible to filter the keyfigure values at the database level?
Thanks... Hope some one will guide me.....................

    Hi,
I've had a similar problem in the past, not specifically for a replacement path but because the number of rows returned by the query was too great to use conditions. In the end what I did was create a characteristic char version of the key figure that was loaded from the same source as the key figure. You then effectively have a key figure that can be filtered in the same way as a normal characteristic.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can we suppress the key figure from the filter values?

    Hi,
I have one restricted key figure.
    1) Is it possible to hide the key figure for calender year 2009 and display it for year 2010. I mean can we hide the column dynamically?
    2) Can we grey out the key figure from filter criteia so that it cannot be checked for specific calender year?
eg if i have 3 key figures as One , Two , Three.
In filter , it will show One , two ,  three  and the checkbox . Is it possible to grey out the checkbox so that user will not be able to check it or tick it?
    Regards!

    Hi,
    1) I don't think we can hide it dynamically.
    2) I dont think we can give such a option in the query designer.can you explain what is ur exact requirement.

  • Please let me know how to see the details related to the Key figure used

    Hi,
Basic key figure BHSL-I belonging to the table GLPCT is used in the one of the reports created using the Report Painter.
Please let me know how to see the details of the BHSL-I key figure.
Details I am looking for is, how the field BHSL-I is getting populated I mean from which field/fields combinations and what is the formulae involved in the calculation of the key figure.
Please let me know if any documentation exists about the key figures.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Madhuri.

What model year is it? If older than a 2011 model, and even some early 2011 models, you will need the original install discs that came with it.
If older than a 2011 model then you use the Online Internet Recovery system to erase the drive, format it Mac Extended and then reinstall OS X.
To access that online recovery system at startup hold down the Command + Option/Alt + r key and keep them held down until you see a globe on the screen.

  • Do i have to select all the key figures when i design a query off of a cube

Do i have to select all the key figures when i design a query off of a cube? i have three keyfigures on the top of the three keyfigures it says calculated keyfigure. kind of lost dont know what to do. please let me know.
    Thanks!
    York

No, you have to select at least one.
Calculated keyfigure (CKF) means it's a formula of two or more other keyfigures. You can select, right-mouse click, display properties and you see how it is composed.
Under calculated keyfigures you see all available keyfigures of the infoprovider you build the query on. Just move them by drag-and drop from the left to the right into the columns.
You can have also restricted keyfigures (RKF). This means a keyfigure is restricted by one or more characterstics and their values.
    Hope you got an idea.

  • What makes this a Key Figure Model (and not Account Model in BW) ?

I am reviewing a document on Key Figure Model versus Account Model in BW.
this example is said to be "Key Figure" Model
    Customer     Revenue     Deductions     COGS
    A            100 DM      390 DM         50 DM
What makes this a Key Figure Model (and not Account Model in BW)

    Hi Amanda,
Consider the simplified a company income statement:
    Sales
    COGS
    -- Gross profits
    Selling and Administrative expense
    Deperication expense
    -- Operating profit
    Interest expense
    -- Earnings before taxes
    Taxes
    -- Earnings after taxes
Each of this lines is represented in BW as a key figure (lines with '--' represented as calculated KFs).
Different persons or companies may use their own details of income statement. For example, someone want to see instead of one line "Selling and Administrative expense" two - separatly selling and administrative expenses, or even break down of these expenses by category. In the KF model every new introducted line should be represented by a new KF.
In the Account Model every line is represented by one KF only. Let name it as 'Amount'. Another characteristic is telling us what kind of amount it is. Imagine that you have accounting trial balance that lists accounts, starting and ending balances, and debit and credit turnovers for each account.
An accountant will tell you that a credit turnover in account #XXXX represent the company revenue (sales), a debit turnover in account #YYYY - cost of goods sold etc.
Simplified inflow of transactional data will consist of:
    Account Amount
    XXXX    -12345
    YYYY    8765
    etc.
In this model (assuming that you load data for all accounts) you can easily change the scheme of calculations and their presentations (groupping, regroupping etc.) in reports without creating new KFs.
In your example you provide a KF model because every distinct type of amounts is represented by its own KF.
    Best regards,
    Eugene

  • Populating the key figure in the Cube

    hi frineds,
I need to populated the custom key fiugre added by me in the cube using the update rule. But if i see the tables of the cube it is seperate for every dimension and key figure. how can i select the particular record from the key figure table with out the reference of the dimensions table.
    Thanks
    Prem

    so you want to
    1. read particular record from cube
    2. populate the amount there.
but populating the amount directly to infocube is not advisable and not feasible as well.
my suggestion will be virtual infoprov based on transformation
you will have to write your logic there and you can populate the amount based on billing number (you said you have amount against billing number).
at query runtime based on transformation/logic your amount will be populated.
    only drawback reduced query performance

  • Select the Key Figures to be presented in a query before execute the it

    Hi,
I want to select(through checkbox) the Key Figures to be presented in a query before executing the query. I'm creating BEX queries and web templates (I'm working on BEX 7.0).
I haven't found clear post about this so if you have implemented something like this please help me and share your solution.
    Kind regards,
    Ana

    Hi,
If you set a property of your KF as "Hide and can be shown", you will get a filter option for these KFs after executing the report in the navigational block of web report.
When you click on that filter, you will get the list of KFs, then you can select the desired KFs using check box.
    Regards,
    Yogesh.

  • How to create Variables for the Key Figures

    Hi All,
How to create Variables for the Key Figures
    Thanks
    Bhaskar

    Hi,
It is not possible to create the variables on Key figures directly. But we can create a formula variable with processing type 'User Entry' ,SO that the user entered value can be used in the calculations of the query.

  • Can i use the key figure total delivery time in days in rows and how is can

    Dear all,
Can i use the key figure total delivery time in days in rows and how is can.but all the key figures r used in rows but i cannot use in column.i want bothin rows and in column  at a time ,can this is possible, and how.

    Hi,
yes you can.You will have to use structure in the row.
Right click on the row and create a new structure.
In this structure you can add key figure.
Maximum number of structure a query can have is two
Please assign points if it helped you.
