Here is the error in total: "The instruction at "0x7c84495d" referenced memory at "0xf94d9326". The memory could not be "read. I have tested this on several of our workstations, all with the same error.
I have started FF in Safe Mode and the error comes up. I've uninstalled it, renamed the install directory and still the error persists. I've updated the plugins to no avail. In Windows 7, this issue does not occur. Since it crashed upon exit, the Crash Recorder doesn't come up.

I've already started Firefox in Safemode and the same issue persists. I've also gone in and manually disabled all add-ons and againk the same issue.

Using Windows XP and Firefox 3.6.15 web pages print with some of the script as unintelligible weird looking script or maybe some kind of computer script. This problem also occurs with the web page on which this question is submitted. This doe not occur using IE 8.0 with the same printer.

These have nothing to do with Firefox.

This one - C:\Users\Vinegarhill-User Acc\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ak4dv58c.default\extensions\ \components\afom.exe - is probably the AFOM - Memory Recovery & Retention For Firefox Only extension.

My advice is to uninstall that extension. IMO, you have too many extensions installed, and are asking for problems with Firefox. I am not against using a lot of extensions in Firefox (I typically have 45 to 50 extensions installed, but the mix of extensions you have scares me as potentially problematic.)

• With the latest update I get the following error: The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again; suggestions, advice, help.

Help>About Firefox> says I am using Firefox/3.6.10./GTB7.1 I get a note from Mozilla that there is an update. I download it after granting permission to change my machine. I say OK. A green bar slides across the monitor announcing that the update is being downloaded. When I then assume it is being installed I get the following error: The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again. There are no other copies running. The machine is not on a network. I am using WIN7

Thanks for the info about Trojan. It may be the problem. Meanwhile I went to Admin/Owner side and did some cleaning -- including trying to reload my Favorite/Bookmarks that have always carried forth from previous levels of Windows XP and earlier.
The new computer here did not grab the Bookmarks from the previous, and yesterday I thought I had them loaded, and today went to Worker-Bee side and they are not showing.
About those add-ons... I have no idea, but think I got everything up to date yesterday. I will look at your earlier reply tomorrow or this weekend when I have more time at home to learn from it.
Thank you for your time in helping.

• I am unable to add Firefox for some reason. I get a message that "the addon could not be downloaded because of a connection error on Mozilla.addons..."

I am running Firefox 10 on my MacBook Pro. I have tried several times to download the Firebug addon, but get the following message:
"The addon could not be downloaded because of a connection error on Mozilla.addons.org"

Type about:config in the Location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key. When you see a warning, click I'll be careful, I promise! button.
-> right-click somewhere, click New -> select String
* name it xpinstall.enabled and set the value to True
-> Close the about:config tab and then Restart Firefox.
All the downloads should work now. If you delete this value some time later it still works.
Check and tell if its working.

• After an firefox auto-update, there is a circle with slash over the icon (do not) and it will not launch.

Firefox was doing one of its automatic updates and it never finished but a circle with a slash through it appeared on the icon and now Firefox won't launch. It gives the following error message:
"The application "Firefox" cannot be launched. -10661"
I've tried re-downloading Firefox but when I get to the window where you move the Firefox icon to the folder it still shows that it has the circle with slash through it. It will start downloading then stop.

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

• I just downloaded firefox 7.0.1 and when I try to open it I get a firefox.exe - application error stating "instruction at 0x1000863c referenced memory at 0x1000863c. The memory could not be read." The application never opens. what can I do?

As stated above I get an error message when I try to open Firefox. The options given in the message are "click OK to terminate program" or "click CANCEL to deug program".

I have now downloaded an older version of firefox and it seems to be working as long as I don't use the google homepage or search.
I am guessing that my computer is just to old to support the 7.0.1 version.
Thanks for your help.

• Win7pro update error: The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox funning on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again.

Receiving error message when updating FF6, and then after installing a fresh copy of FF7, when FF tried to update again.
This is happening with FF that is installed on my machine and with FF portable. Has anyone else experienced this?

Firefox Safe mode is a diagnostic mode that allows troubleshooting.<br />
You start the same version, only some features are disable like add-ons (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions).
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update not working properly)
Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder:
C:\Users\&lt;user&gt;\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
(%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates)
C:\Users\&lt;user&gt;\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\updates
* Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

• What should I do about the alert "Could not initialize the application's security component...." Firefox no responding.

When I open up firefox I get the alert:
Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.
When I click OK I get my home page (google), but nothing works: no web sites will open. I have downloaded the new version of firefox and carried out a defraggle without success.

This solution worked for me:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Could+not+initialize+the+browser+security+component
The step that worked for me was to locate and delete the cert8.db file.

Running Windows XP Pro SP3. The memory could not be "read". The next time I start Firefox it seems to work normally. I did try resetting Firefox, but no difference so I restored it to a previous session as the Reset eliminated all of my history, bookmarks, etc.

Hello driadmin, go for a clean re-install, this means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from this page (full installer) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default on Windows:
*C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
*C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
#Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
#Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. If you can't install on top of the current installation then you need to delete or rename the current Firefox program folder to do a clean install.
It is possible that your security software is using or locking files, so you can try to temporarily disable that software during the installation.
