On X61 (7675-CTO) can fansink FRU 42X3805 be replaced with FRU 42X4339?

I finally found some time today (actually forced time since the old fan finally quit and reported a FAN ERROR during boot) to take apart my X61 and install a new heatsink fan.  Although the laptop is now re-assembled and seemingly operating normally (and quietly), I discovered that the FRU of the unit I removed (part number 42X3805) was different than the FRU of the new unit (part number 42X4339).
The two parts were also different in design.  The original (the unit removed) has a longer and larger heatsink and bigger fan housing than the new one (the unit installed).
And while the new fan did fit into place, it has other design differences that make me wonder whether or not the right fan was indeed installed.
For example, the old fan’s power consumption is 305 mA while the new fan is 200 mA.  And while the old fan used a 3-pin connector to attach to the motherboard, the new fan used a 4-pin connector (though only 3 of the 4 connections were used by the red, orange and blue wires).  This meant that I had to carefully remove swap the white plastic connectors, removing the 3-pin from the old unit and attaching it to the new unit so that I could reconnect the new unit to the motherboard.
Checking online after re-assembling the X61, I noted that several sites claim that FRU 42X4339 is the heatsink fan that fits the Lenovo R61 machine and not the X61 machine.
The question is, does it matter?  Can I safely run the X61 using a fansink specified for the R61?  Or do I risk causing damage to the machine by using what seems to be a lower power and smaller fansink?
Thanks,
-Ron

i don't think it is too wise to use a R61 fan on the X61, you will probably run into trouble later.

Can a touch screen be replaced with a non-touch screen?  Still struggling to Find the answer.
My son has a 3 month old laptop with a touchscreen.  Unfortunately he cracked the screen.    The actual picture is fine, but the screen cover is cracked.    After much searching we found the replacement cost…..all in is some $500.  I am trying to find out if the screen can be replaced with a non touch screen.  This will save him $250.   I cannot seem to get the answer from HP, despite having been a client for many years.
He ordered the HP Pavilion dv6t Select Edition customizable Notebook PC. The product number is XC102AV.
It also shows a product number ww146av .  The connector is on the bottom left of the screen.
I am pretty sure that the part number, per the manual, is 631019-001
I had been getting helpful replies from “Erico”, but have not heard back on this issue.

    Hi,
I am still waiting for an answer as well. I haven't forgotten you. Since it is just after the holiday period perhaps an answer will come reasonably soon.

  • If my battery life is getting lower  and lower, can I get my iPod replaced with a new one with the guaranty?

Bought my iPod 10months ago, now the battery life is really bad!!! I need to know if I can get it replaced with the guaranty! Thanks :)

I'd make an appointment at your local apple store, have them check it out and see what they say. If they determine that it's a manufacturer's defect then they may replace it.
In case they do, I'd do a full sync and backup before you take it in.

  • X61 7675-CTO Fan Issues

    Hi,
I have a question about the fans in my X61.  I have sent my laptop back Lenovo twice now to have the fans replaced.  It usually works for a month or 2 afterwards.  I was wondering if there is anyway that I can just get a bunch of the fans sent to me.  I am tired of having to send my laptop back to be serviced only to have the fans break again....It is extrememly frustrating and to complicate things, I have moved to Mexico, so sending my laptop back has become even more painful....
    Thanks!

    Squirm,
I can see how that would be frustrating.   Are the fans failing in exactly the same way?  Do you get an error or do the fans just not run?   What's going on?
The fan and heat sink are built together on these I believe, so the part cost is not completely trivial, so we don't send them out in bulk "just in case".    But really, you shouldn't have back to back fails.
If the symptoms are the same, then it could be environmental, or it could be some bad parts (we should investigate), or it could be that there is something else associated that is causing the failures.
I'd like to help... can you tell us more?

  • Can I get Mavericks removed/replace with Lion?

I'd be willing to pay  to get this done.
Mavericks won't let me work with Quicken 2007, and Quicken Essentials Mac comes up blank.
Mavericks won't let me use my printer, even after downloading/installing "updated" printer driver. No printing.
With Mavericks I cannot buy a new printer because none of the printers I find in stores is compatible with Mavericks.
I'm sure there are more booby traps on my new Mac mini:  software I need that will not work.
PLEASE tell me I can get Lion installed and get rid of Mavericks!

Get Quicken 2007 for Intel (Snow Leopard, Lion, Mt. Lion and Mavericks) for $15:
    http://quicken.intuit.com/personal-finance-software/quicken-2007-osx-lion.jsp
It will open your Quicken 2007 PPC data file.
Quicken Essentials is generally loathed by most members of this forum.
What model printer do you have?
What was your old Mac and what version of OS X did it run?  It is possible that if you were running Snow Leopard, that you may have been using PowerPC apps that will not run in Mavericks.

  • Can I get my phone replaced with a 1 Year Warranty?

I bought a HTC phone from Best Buy in July 2011 and it came with an extra piece that no longer works. I have an 1 year warranty and I was wondering if I could get the piece replaced.

What kind of piece is this?
Either way if you only have the manufacturer's one year warranty, you would have to contact the manufacturer.

I need to get my mighty mouse replaced and I am still in Applecare warranty and I've done this process before. I enter my serial number and go through the online service process and when I finish and hit "submit" it says error and I should try again at a different time. I tried last night, I tried today, I tried it in Safari, I tried it in Firefox, still doesn't work...

  • Can my defective 3g be replaced with a 3gs under warranty?

I am on my 2nd iPhone 3g under warranty. The volume control fell off this time. As long as I need a replacement does Apple "upgrade" under warranty or am I only eligible for the same model replacement?

No, there is no iPhone upgrade program.
If you do still have warranty coverage on your 3G (unlikely), they would replace it with another 3G.

  • Can the internal drive be replaced with solid state drive?

I have one of the original MB Air computers with an internal hard drive. Does Apple offer the option of upgrading to the solid state drive? If I did (and it is possible) would it run cooler?

That said, you may be able to find a 3rd-party Apple Service Provider that would do it. Be sure to find someone certified. The MacBook Air isn't the easiest machine to work on.
Going to an SSD would give you a performance boost, but I'm not sure it would help with heat that much.
And there's the question of money. Spending the money an SSD + install may not be worth it on an original MBA.

iPod 4,1 will not update to iOS 7. I updated my iMac to 10.9.1 (maverick). Latest Numbers version on iMac is not compatible with Numbers on iPod. Ideas? Can I go back a version with Numbers? I downloaded old version of Numbers 2.0.1 from DVD but with both versions the 2.0.1 will not open.  So both versions are present but only the new version functions. I tried to drag the new version to the trash but the old version still runs error message and will not open. I did not try to restart with the new version in the trash.

    Maybe. See:

  • How can I change the age associated with my daughter's account?

OK I am sure that this is a common issue.  Back when my daughter was about 9 or 10 years old, we bought her an iPod Touch.   She was too young to have an AppleID of her own, so I set one up for her using an extra gmail accoun that I had, and entered my birthdate/age.  A few years later, she received an iPad, and most recently, an iPhone.   All of these devices are tied to the same AppleID.
Well, now she will be 13 years old soon, and I would like to switch things to represent reality.  She has her own email account, and I believe you can go to My Apple Id to change the Apple ID name and e-mail address.  My question is, can we change the age associated with the account?
I hear you saying, "Just create a new AppleID for her."  That may end up being the only solution, but I am trying to avoid having two AppleIDs for her to keep up with.  She has already purchased a fair amount of content (music and apps) under the existing AppleID, and I am pretty sure from looking at the posts on this Community that you can not transfer content away from the AppleID under which it was downloaded/purchased.  And so, if I create a new AppleID, she will have to re-purchase the content to get it all in one place.  As she eventually grows up and becomes independent, I would like for he to not have to "start over" with her AppleID.
Any advice or direction to information would be appreciated.

I have a similar situation however a bit more complicated! It seems that when I was setting the birthdate I forgot to change the year so now my seven years old daughter shows up as a two months old! There is no way to change the birthdate because it shows up in light grey when I login into my daughters account and doesn't allow a change! The birthdate can be changed only when the child turns 13 however according to this she will have to be 20 before she can change it to show property 13 and here is where this is getting completely out of hand! Now to make things more complicated I have twin daughters and they came up with their unique but similar Apple ID, so changing one will require to change both Apple IDs! After being on the phone with Apple's customer support for about one hour I talked to a supervisor and the supervisor of the supervisor and their only solution is to create a new Apple ID! Of course in my case I will have to create two new Apple IDs, and I'm considering doing it. However when I started reading it becomes more complicated because I already made their Apple IDs part of my family group. It seems like you're not able to just let go of family member that is less than 13 years of age. You can only transfer it to another family, so Apple is making sure there are no kids left behind It seems like the only option will be to "abandon" the family and then create a new family with the new Apple IDs. If all this sounds bizarre to you it sounds bizarre to me too! If I can just put the kids in the car and drive them to the nearest one hour away Apple Store and have them show their credentials confirming their birthdate I would rather do that than having to spend more and more time with this issue, but that was not an option pointed out by customer support. So folks keep in mind that if you make a mistake your children's age is set in stone until he or she turns 20 if they happen to be seven at the time you made the mistake and no one can change this, even Apple! Now on the positive side I'm glad I didn't do the mistake when she was 13 or she will have to wait until she's 26 Most likely I'll be calling customer support tomorrow again and I will let you know how it went!
