Onboard NIC (realtek) 785GT-E63

As many in newegg have noticed about this mainboard - the onboard NIC will lose connection (timeouts) every so often, and it's quite frustrating. Finally , i just popped in an old Linksys PCI NIC and it's doing great, but i would love to have the extra room by using the onboard NIC. It appears, from what I have read, that only the original driver for W7_64 bit actually works correctly, and every subsequent driver after that has the same timeout issues, and it does not only affect this MSI board - it has also affected a few others (AMD AM2+/AM3). I guess my question is, since i lost the original disk lol, is there anyone that can point me to the original driver included with the mainboard CD (W764 bit) ? I have been out of the PC building scene for about 2 years, but i do know what i'm doing, how to read manuals etc.... and search known issues, and indeed - this is  a very well known issue with this particular board, and it is my first MSI, usually using Giga or Asus, other than this issue, I love the board.
Basic Specs AMD PHII 840/8GB Patriot DDR2_1066/ 600W PSU/ nvidia GTX260/W764

Well, as i suspected - a reformat, with W7 using an older driver as default, about two years old, likely a Vista driver works fine now. I just need to remember to not allow MS update or DL any new drivers for this NIC.  :D

  • 785gt-e63 CPU VID voltages?

MSI 785GT-E63 mb, everything's set to auto, no oc'ing.
8GB of Kingston DDR2 ram, memory tested fine.
When I installed AMD Overdrive to check on voltages and things as I am getting BSOD with bug code 124 in Win 7 64 bit.
The one voltage that fluctuates is CPU VID, overdrive shows it should be at 1.400 and it fluctuates from 1.025 - 1.400, is this normal?  It is now doing this with 2 different power supplies.
    Current one: (Unknown Manfuacturer)
    Model: PS-400W
    DC OUTPUT
    Max Current
    +3.3V = 28A
    +5V = 40A
    +12v(1) = 20A
    +12v(2) = 20A together both +12V = 20A
    -12V = 1A
    -5V = 0.8A
    +5VSB = 2.5A
    Other one I tried: Antec
    Model: EA-380D GREEN
    DC OUTPUT
    +5V = 20A
    +3.3V = 20A
    +12v(1) = 17A
    +12v(2) = 15A
    -12V = 0.8A
    +5VSB = 2.5A
Any ideas as to why I would be getting BSOD with Bugcheck 124?

Other than the random bugcode 124 Blue Screens the machine has been awesome.
Are there any particular usage scenarios in which those x124 BSODs appear to occur more frequently? For example:  Do they rather occur in IDLE or in FULL LOAD conditions or when there are sudden transition between IDLE and LOAD states?

    Quote
Yes CPU voltages go up and down, it's normal because C&Q does that.
As Bas said, the fact that the Core Voltage fluctates is normal.  This is a power saving feature of your processor.  These fluctuations should not cause any troubles under normal circumstances.  That is why there is usually no reason to turn off the C&Q feature.
However, for testing purposes you can always turn this feature off, just to find out if that will yield any change regarding your BSOD problem. You are then able to determine whether or not your BSODs are C&Q related.

In case you get any errors, slightly increase the DRAM/Memory Voltage to 1.95V to compensate the fact that you use four modules and counteract against the potential possibility that your board is slightly undervolting the memory.

    Look here:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff557321%28v=VS.85%29.aspx
Perhaps that will help you to do further analysis of the BSODs.  Please also check the Windows error log and look for any indication of other exceptional errors occuring around the BSODs.
Temporarily disabling some of the peripheral onboard components may also help to find possible causes (e.g. NIC, onboard sound).  You could also test a stand-alone video card (with low power demands) to circumvent the onboard video adapter for testing purposes.
Furthermore, I would also disconnect the optical drive completely for testing purpose and run a diagnostic test on the hard drive using a dedicated Samsung utility.

  • K7N2 Delta2 :: Onboard NIC Once Flawless, Now cannot find Network

Hello, and thank you for reading my Support Query!
Heres the Deal. For the past Couple of Months, I've had little to no problems with my K7N2D2. Everything worked to my expectations.
Until Last Night, was online, and downloading some Bittorrent Files when all my connections suddenly drop'd from Maximum to Nothing.
First Thought : ADSL Dropped or Router Stalled...  So, I Restart ze Modem, Restart the Hub. All their Flashes go Normally, and I wait a few moments for everything to Synch Up. Then Tried refreshing google.com .. to No Avail, its -instantly- reporting it cannot find the address, yadda yadda.
2nd Thought : Oh, maybe Verizon's Service was interrupted... But No, I walk into the other room, where my Bro's Comp is at, and the Net is Fully Functional and Online. [ He also has a K7N2-D2 MB.. The Comp which im typing at right now]
Weirdness : I Cannot Connect to the Routers IP Address. I Cannot even Connect to any other the computers on the Network. [ This all Used to Work Perfectly, Small Home Network of 3 Comps, With Lots of Read Only Shared Folders, for Music / Movies ]
Continued Wierdness : Everything in the Device Manager seems to Say everything is in perfect working Order, and I Can Ping Local Address [ 127.0.0.1 ] With No Problem. I Tried Pinging the Router, but it couldnt find Destination?
ipconfig/all  Reports that, DHCP is Enabled, AutoConfig is Enabled, but it cant find the Gateway or DHCP Server.
What is going on? Did I Fry the NIC with too Many Torrents?
I Tried Hooking up a Old D-Link NIC Card I've had around for awhile, Not Sure why but it didnt want to Work.. Maybe cuzz its been sitting in storage for years.
Help is greatly appreciated, Is there anyway I Can run a diagnostic on the Onboard NIC? Yarr.

    Hi all.
I'm new here, but have to write, coz I have exactly the same problem, like Nookovski.
I'm using my K7N2 D2platinum for more than 1 years, without any problem, using the onboard LAN for internet (connected to ADSL cable modem), and another Ethernet card for internal LAN.
2 days ago, I was playing network game with friends, when suddenly my connection was lost. I tried to reach homepages, but no avail. Try to ping some common addresses, nothing happens, 100% lost.
I rebooted, and saw, that my ip address for netconnection changed to 163... etc. This is weird, coz originally my ISP always give some 80... etc from DHCP.
I tried renew my ip, no success.
Called my ISP, they said, they can see my modem, but can't see my PC. I have to plug the cable to my another ethernet card for a moment - I did it, and they saw my pc in this case. They adviced to reinstall my onboard NIC driver. OK, perhaps later.
After all, I found an old Ethernet card (Realtek family) in my case, so I installed it. After a quick reboot my netconnection was fine through this new card. So no network problem on ISP side, there is something with my onboard LAN.
I tried to uninstall / remove the driver from hardware settings panel, but the window freezes. If I reboot in safe mode, and try to remove again, windows says : cannot remove, device is needed for operation. (or smth like this)
I tried reinstall LAN components from the latest MSI driverset, but nothing changed. I think it cannot overwrite the old (damaged?) files.
Now I'm using 2 PCI eth.card, one to connect with another PC, and one for internet. I disabled the onboard LAN from bios. But this is annoying, I don't understand  what happend from one minute to another, and I would like to use my integrated NIC!
I found some posts here, advising to set the MAC address in bios manually, regarding to a sticker on the mobo, but I don't have such an option in BIOS.
What should I do now? Are there any solution?
    Thanx!

  • 785GT-E63 constant crash and reboot upon startup.

Hi, I just recently purchased a 785GT-E63 mobo with a Phenom II x4 965. I swapped my old mobo and cpu (nividia mobo +Intel Core 2 duo) with those, and now I can't get into Windows. It posts ok, and then I see the WinXP logo, but it crashes and reboots just as it's about to show the desktop.
I don't think it's a hardware issue because I can boot up into Safe Mode just fine. It just won't finish booting into normal Windows mode. I've already tried a barebones boot (nothing but the hard drive connected + onboard video), and different sticks of RAM with no luck.
    Any ideas?

  • Why is that 785GT-E63 bios does not allow GPU overclock?

Why is that 785GT-E63 bios does not allow GPU overclock?
while other motherboard on the same price range or perhaps cheaper allows it.
Anyways there are software solution but I hope a bios support would do. My old Geforce 8300 supports overclocking GPU via bios.

From my past experience, I would try uninstalling CCC and install ATI Tray Tool, or ATI Tools and see if you can OC a bit that way - if you do remember dont OC far just a tad as it will likely cause heat issues and onboard GPU is fanless.

  • Sound not working on 785GT-E63

Hey guys! I have a 785GT-E63 mobo and I am running into a problem here!
My sound doesn't seem to be working at ALL!
I have plugged different speakers and mics into the back panel and they will not work in mine but will on my laptop! The only way I can get sound at the moment is through the HDMI cable going from my GTX 480 to my monitor that has bad, no-bass speakers in it.
I tried using the drivers on the CD and then the latest drivers from realtek.com and it still isn't working. I also downloaded audio drivers from the MSI website, and still! nothing!
I am getting very frustrated because it is beginning to seem that my back panel just doesn't work. If anyone has any suggestions, please, respond!

Perhaps you should say some more about your system.
Sound problems are usually related to:
    - Windows.
    - Realtek drivers
    - PSU - meaning the sound card sort of drops out.
I should have started with that info, thanks for the reminder
    Win XP Pro SP3
    Realtek HD v2.56
    Realtek HDMI v2.55
The issue is with the on board S/PDIF no sound/audio at all coming from it.
I called MSI they said that the board must be defective.  I exchanged it at Microcenter, but have the same problem with the new board.  I highly doubt I would be unlucky enough to get TWO boards with bad S/PDIF's
@ Henry - I have been all over that panel and all the settings appear to be correct.
Like I said in earlier post, the odd thing is that I only have one option for audio device and the spdif control is grayed out on both the realtek panel and the XP panel.  I can see there is red light coming thru my optical cord. Basically... ARrrrgggg!!!
It does seem this is somewhat of a problem with various MSI boards, but aven't found solutions out there. Well, not yet. I am hopeful.
Is there maybe a BIOS setting I am missing?  Tech support said there is no setting n the bios. True/False?

Thanks for all the great input.
These problems have been going on for the past 3 weeks since building the PC.
I am using Catalyst 10-7 version for video drivers.
I used auto timings on RAM when I first built the PC and the same problem came up, will try it again though.
The programs that cause the crash; Catalyst drivers setup(10-4 and 10-7 both cause the crash), Farcry 2 (when un-installing Farcry 2 the crash happens). If I don't start the programs there is no crash.  Most types of programs work with no problem, Nero, Padus, Handbrake, AutoGK, Mozilla.
I'll try to get a BSOD code.

  • KT6V 7021 - OnBoard NIC "dead" after BIOS 2.00 update ... any thoughts?

    Hi!
Just flashed KT6V BIOS 2.00 and now my onboard nic suddenly stopped working.
The network adapter gets recognized by Windows as usual, but although I do get a dhcp lease from my server I'm unable to connect to any share on it. It's also impossible to surf the web or to simply ping any local/remote host. If I try to connect to the system from any other workstation on the lan it doesn't work either.
The network status only shows a great amount of sent packages - caused by AVAST! as it tries to look for an update on boot - but only "0" received.
I flashed the BIOS from the emergency diskette and did a CMOS clear (Jumper) afterwards. And yes, I did disconnect my PSU from the wall socket.
Since I need network access to the system I tried stepping back to BIOS 1.90 but with no avail - the onboard nic doesn't receive a single paket after it has got it's dhcp lease.
Any clue what might be wrong and how I'm able to get my nic back to work?
Thank you in advance for any useful help.

    Hi Fredrik.
    Quote
So if you were to downgrade BIOS problems would go away, right?
I have already downgraded to BIOS 1.90 and the problem stayed the same - the onboard nic is still dead beef.
    Quote
When clearing CMOS there can be no el. left in your system, so unplug power cable etc.
As mentioned in my first post I _have_ unplugged the power cord from the wall socket.
    Quote
If the new BIOS would affect NIC card... Hm, it is hard to see quite how.
I can't think of any reason either, however, the nic went dead after updating to BIOS v2.00. I assume that there must be some kind of "network code" inside the bios which has to do with the onboard nic - otherwise I'm unable to explain why the MAC address suddenly changed to "11:22:33:44:55:66". If I would only have a clue on how to access and/or flash the nic ... ???
    Quote
Is there any error marks for the nic in say Device Manager, if you get that far?
Nope, there is no question or exclamation mark on the network card in the device manager. Windows thinks the card is working, but in reality it isn't. As already stated: No traffic from/to the network.

    Generally HDMI transports sound, yes.
    Thanks for the reply.
    My set-up is pretty simple.
Besides the new MB and CPU (which i got at a great deal on $115 for both) all the components are being recycled from other PCs.

I do not have a dedicated video card, and for my purposes i don't think i need one.
I would like this HTPC to output audio to a 5.1 channel system powered by Onkyo TX-SR507 Receiver through HDMI
This will be used to watch 720/1080p video downloads, brows pictures, basic online browsing and maybe convert some of my old family VHS videos.

  • Onboard NIC, KT4V MS-6712

    Hi there,
When i try to connect to the internet with the onboard nic of my KT4V MS-6712 i get the error message "one of the networkcables is not connected".
With an sepperate nic i don't have any problems.
Is there some setting i did forget?
Nic is already enabled in the bios !
I have 3 machines behind an Edimax router with a cable connection.
    System specs:
    KT4V MS-6712
    AMD AthlonXP 1600+
    TwinMos 256Mb PC2100
    Hercules 3D Prophet 128Mb
    Creative Live! 5.1
    Maxtor 60Gb 7200rpm
    Q-Tec PSU 550 watt
    OS Win XP pro

I have the same problem on my ms-6712, the onboard LAN doesn't seem to work correctly, if I connect the network cable to the onboard LAN the lights flash on the modem and the board but I can't get an IP address for the LAN. Although it works fine on my PCI NIC. Very strange!
I've tried, in a desperate attempt, to use a cross over cable but that didn't work either. Although it shouldn't work with a cross over cable anyway.
If anyone has an answer for this one I'd sure like to know!

  • Installing driver for onboard NIC

I'm new to Solaris and have a question as to how to install drivers for my onboard NIC. I found drivers that might work but I don't know what to do with them. Do I use the tar command? Will it put it in the right directory that way or do I need to move it somewhere else first.
If the drivers work, can I then set it up for DHCP? I've read a little bit about it. Will this work: ifconfig <interfacename> auto-dhcp?

Before this gets completely out of hand, like a recent thread,
let's get a few things out of the way.
What hardware do you have? Brand? Model?
What precise Ethernet chipset do you have?
Integrated to the systemboard? Add-on card ?
If this is some sort of a PC, have you checked the
    Solaris Hardware Compatibility List (HCL)
    http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/data/sol/
and have you compared your hardware to what's on that list ?
Generally speaking, there is no such thing as "maybe" or "might work"
when you are speaking of driver software packages.
They would be correct or they would be wrong.
What driver software are you considering?
If you downloaded it, provide the link.
There should be a README file with the software, even if it's not named "readme".

  • MSI 785GT E63 questions...

Hi everyone, I just built my desktop and a few things don't seem to be working right. My basic setup:
    MSI 785GT-E63
    AMD Athlon X2 64 Windsor
    Seasonic 520W PSU
    4x1GB Crucial DDR2 800 MHz
    1. I have two CPU fans because I bought an aftermarket CPU cooler. One of them doesn't work. Do I have to plug them in into certain places? The BIOS says only "System Fan 2" is working, not "Systen Fan 1".
    2. How do I get it to boot using a USB stick? I plan on installing Windows 7 through USB and I can't seem to find an option for it. I am used to seeing something like "Boot Priority" or something. Do I just press a key on the screen that shows the whole MSI thing? Normally I press "DEL" for the BIOS menu. Should I press something like F12 for boot menu?
    3. Is it common for new motherboards, or MSI motherboards, to ship with dead USB ports or did I wire up something wrong? I plugged my USB keyboard/mouse in the back and it didn't work, but I plugged it into any of the other 4 USB ports and it worked.
Additional Notes: It does boot into my old installation of Windows just fine. Do I just need to install the new drivers/utilities to make sure the motherboard works? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

    1. CPU fan is only one, its goes to CPU FAN header.
    2. See here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=127129.0
The keyboard key for boot menu is F11
    3. What "dead usb port"?

I know the AMD Phenom II X4 980 HDZ980FBGMBOX Black Edition Processor - Quad Core, 6MB L3 Cache, 2MB L2 Cache, 3.70 GHz, Socket AM3, 125W, Fan, Unlocked, Retail and the AMD HDE00ZFBGRBOX Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Processor - Six Core, 6MB L3 Cache, 3MB L2 Cache, 3.30GHz, Socket AM3, 125W, Fan, Unlocked, Retail will fit but which would be the best as far as being the fastest for this motherboard or can you suggest a faster cpu for this?

What do you do by the computer? Modern processors are rather powerful, and I bet you whatever you choose it will live rather a relaxed life 99 % of the time.
That said, I think if you have the opportunity and cash you should go for the most expensive processor you can. I hope that means the 6-core processor.
We usually want people to say what their PSU is, so we can laugh at them and tell them they made a bad choice: What PSU have you got?

I cannot get the system to boot as far as BIOS. My initial instinct was a bad processor/MB, which I returned to Newegg. They shipped me out new ones, which I have installed and I am still in the exact same position. Does anyone have any advice for me?
    TIA,

Well, it could be that the CPU requires the motherboard to have a BIOS update to work...
Yikes... how exactly would I go about fixing that?

Are you sure you plugged in CPU-power as instructed in the manual?
It does not beep if there is no ram.
You need to start the CPU somehow.
    I think of 3 options:
    1. BIOS doesn't support your CPU.
    2. Memory isn't good
    3. CPU power isn't plugged in
Show us a picture of your system.
Exactly why I think it's dead RAM - if it's removed I get the 'no ram' error beeps, if it's in, no boot, and no beep.
    1) not sure what to do about that, the motherboard lists this CPU as suppored
    2) agreed
    3) pretty sure I nailed this one, BOTH times, since they sent me a replacement CPU.
Let's see if this attach image thing works...
