Onboard VGA and AGP card

AS far as I understand, if I install an AGP card, it will automatically disable the onboard vga. Is it possible to have both enabled? I'd like to connect two monitors and use two separate desktops. One possible solution would be to install a dual head card, but the one that I have is a full-size card. So I'd like to use my old half-size ATI AGP card and onboard chip - is it possible?

no, because the onboard agp shares the AGP slot. you cannot use both together

  • 651M-L can't disable onboard VGA and other problems.

Hello. I have the MSI 651M-L motherboard and I want to use an external AGP card (GeForce 2 MX 400) instead of the onboard. I am really confused with this board for many reasons (the PC is not mine, I should just fix it). I think that the board may be damaged. First of all, in the manual, it doesn't say a word about the external AGP card. In the BIOS, there is nothing relevant (disable onboard VGA). I thought that it is just automatic and I plugged in the external card, but the system was still working with the onboard! 2 or 3 times ONLY, the system has booted-up normally but the monitor was off. I thought then to shutdown the PC and connect the monitor to the external card. The system was working properly after that and Windows XP saw the GeForce 2. After some reboots, the system was switching again to the onboard VGA (without personally making any change)! Why is that? Why the system is switching by itself from the one VGA to the other? I have checked that the AGP card is plugged in correctly. Is there any jumper or something to disable the onboard VGA? Thanks.
PS1: Can someone explain to me, why the VGA drivers downloaded from the MSI website for this board (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=478&kind=1), don't work? When I am trying to install them, an error message comes up saying that it didn't find the necessary hardware and the installation is canceled. My present drivers have date of 2002 and I want to upgrade to the latest drivers. I have made all the other driver updates (agp driver, IDE, sound, LAN etc).
PS2: Is it true that this board doesn't have any option for overclocking? I have a P4 at 2.4 GHz. I didn't find anything in the BIOS. I can't believe it. Are there any hidden options?
PS3: Will MSI release any newer BIOS for this board? The latest is 07/09/2003, but I think that there are many things to be improved.

Hi again. Maesus, I have already tried that and if I remember well, it had worked in the beginning but later the system started the same thing. I don't want to do that again, because I will have to re-configure all BIOS settings and because I think that it shouldn't be necessary. The solution would be to have a new BIOS release. But I want to add that I have tried with another external AGP card (again a GeForce 2) without result. The system can see only the onboard VGA and I can't figure out why.
Apart from that, I have another VERY STRANGE error. Please read carefully: I was facing many Blue-Screens-of-Death (BSD) with the know error "Page Fault In Non Page Area". From my experience, classic case of RAM problems, due to failing or bad configured DIMM. The RAM is a one-week new 1 GB DIMM DDR-400 which works at 266 MHz (2T CL, 1T CR). I had shared 64 MB to the on-board VGA and the other 960 MB to the system. I couldn't believe that the DIMM was failing, so I used MS Memory Diagnostic tool to check-it out. In the first pass, many errors were found (about 60 at the time I stopped it). This utility is rather old now and in some cases can give wrong results. For example, in my personal system where I have 4 identical DIMMS of 512 MB each (Dual Channel), this utility was reporting some errors, while actually my RAM was perfect. I know it because I have checked it with Memtest86 and was error-free and also because the system is rock-solid. Back to our case now, I re-started the test and again I saw many errors. Actually, the standard 6-tests first pass was ok, but the second pass has... 4500 errors all in the sixth test! Very strange but I was terrified by that! The same day, I tried Memtest86 to verify the errors. Memtest, had correctly recognized the 960 MB of memory and reported that is going to check this amount of memory. 2 passes and no errors. The next day, I have understood that maybe the problem was with the 64 MB shared memory part. Maybe this memory part was causing the whole problems, because the diagnostic tool could try to test it as a system memory part. Additionally I have never used MS Memory Diagnostic on such a case (onboard VGA). I decided to limit the shared memory up to 8 MB and re-try the test, hoping for less errors. I have tried 3 standard 6-tests passes and 3 extended 11-tests passes with not a single error. Also, the BSD have disappeared. Yesterday, I tried to watch a DVD and two times faced BSD. Today, this DVD plays normally. I will continue the tests of course, but I think that there was (maybe still there is) a problem with the hundle of the shared memory part. I have all the latest drivers, but I believe that this board is problematic. Anyway, If someone have to make any comments on this story is welcome.

  • Nview with IGP and AGP-Card?

    Hello!
I have a K7N2G-ILSR and I would like to use the Integrated Graphics together with an AGP-Card.
    Is that possible?
I found nothing in my BIOS to reactivate the IGP after installing the AGP-Card. But it would be such nice to use nview just with IGP and a simple AGP-Card.
    Tnx, Qnt

You can't use the onboard AGP along with an add-on AGP card. Only one card can ride the AGP bus at a time. WHat you'll need is either a PCI card to use with the onboard AGP, or an add-on AGP card that will do twin output. Many will using the VGA port and the DVI port (with an adapter of course).

  • PM8M-V and AGP card

first excuse my very bad english
    I bought a PM8M-V mothercard
I want to add an AGP card
I have to modify in the BIOS to desactivate integrated vga card and activate AGP card but I don't know what to do in the bios parameters
because I put agp card and the system reboot always conflict driver I suppose
    Help me please ...

It could be a driver problem. It could be something else.
Try entering SafeMode. Uninstall the driver for the onboard card. Uninstall the driver for the AGP card. Enter DeviceManager, and remove all - yes, all - graphics cards. Reboot.
Without installing the driver for the AGP card, do you still have reboots?

  • K9NGM3 how to enable both onboard video and video card NVidia GeForce 6600

My previous mainboard was K9NGM2 (GeForce 6150 onboard video) and I've used both onboard and external video at same time under Vista.
Now I've upgraded the mainboard and it's now a K9NGM3-FIH (with nVidia 7050 chip). Onboard graphic works as well if there is no external PCIe video card. When I plug an external one (GeForce 6600), internal one disappears. I both tried BIOS settings; primary card is Onboard / or PCIe. No luck!
If there is an external card, onboard video doesn't work at boot and under Vista. There is no Video graphic adapter named 7050 : ( When I unplug it then reboot there is the 7050 under device manager...
    What's wrong with them?
    Thanks.

when you have a stand alone video card, why would you want to use on board video at the same time? stand alone video card is much much better than those one on board.

  • K9N6PGM2-V2 DISABLE ONBOARD VGA INSTALL 6600 PCI-e

    Hi All
I have put together a basic multimedia computer for a friend using all new parts (listed below) All went well with the XP install and it seems to be running fine, Another pleasant build apart from the graphics>
I want to disable the onboard graphics and use a NEW MSI 6600 (non SLI) graphics card basically for the dual view and S-VIDEO output options, I have set the preference in the BIOS to PCI-E disabling the onboard VGA, I connected the monitor to the 6600 but no picture is displayed and found the onboard VGA is still working, Would I need to remove the onboard drivers to be able to use the 6600?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

okay I hope this helps because i had a similar problem where my gtx 275 coop would not display unless the onboard vga was installed, but i have an msi nf980-g65 mobo, so i'm hoping this can help. so before doing anything switch your setting that should be called "Primary Graphics Adapter" to "Internal" if thats what it says in your bios, (you can have the graphics card in or out of the pc its fine) then go into windows if you have it installed, then go to device manager and delete the onboard vga from the display adapters. then download the latest drivers for your card (you don't need the card to be recognized or installed to download the drivers) but dont install the drivers yet, then download Driver Sweeper, reboot into safe mode then open driver sweeper, and check every box related to nvidia, then clean it. (also if windows reinstalled the drivers for the onboard vga, delete it again from the device manager and clean the drivers again with driver sweeper) then install the latest drivers for your graphics card, it should already be on your desktop or wherever you saved it to. then reboot and see if your graphics card picks up video, and then if it does go into windows and look in the device manager and if your onboard vga and your graphics card are shown in device manager, then don't do anything and reboot into the BIOS and set the primary graphics adapter back to PCI-E and i'm not sure where its located but look into the chipset feature option or wherever and it should show a setting called Onboard VGA or Integrated VGA and set it to disabled, then it should take off the onboard vga from the computer and your graphics card should still pick up a video signal. but the feature would only pop up for me if the graphic card was enabled so look hard for it. i hope this helps cause i had that same problem where it need the mGPU enabled for the 275 to be enabled

  • Onboard gf2 & agp card at once possible?

    -
I've been searching all day for some words that will confitm or deny I can get video from both the onboard video and a rage fury pro in the agp slot.  Win ME works fine with the GF2 when no agp card is plugged in but the GF2 disapears from device manager when I plug in the rage fury card.
Could be a stupid question but as this mainboard is the first I've ever owned with onboard video I donno this agp slot is for...  I've found no relevent posts on the subject so it must be common sense.
Failing that I'll accept ideas for what to use this rage fury card for (drill a hole through it and make it into a clock.?.)

The AGP bus logic at current motherboards are not capable of handling such tasks. So, as already stated, no.

  • 30" Cinema Display and ATI AGP cards

I recently purchased a 30" Cinema display. My G5 Dual 2.0 GHz does not have the PCI-Express slot, only a AGP slot. After doing all my research, I arrived at 2 ATI cards (one for my PC and one for my G5). For the G5, I purchased the ATI X800XT Mac Edition. It clearly states it will support the 30" at 2560X1600 and it does say it is Dual link. The G5 will not display anything on any monitor (I also have a 20" cinema display). The other card I purchased for the PC is the ATI 9600 PRO MAC and PC edition. This card works flawlessly...on the PC (2560X1600), but limits display resolution to 1280X800 on the G5. My suspicion is that my G5 (I purchased in June 2004) does not present enough power at the AGP port, but I am only guessing.
    Any thoughts?

From what I understand, there are four Mac/AGP cards that are compatible with the 30" Cinema Display:
    1. ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Mac & PC Edition
    2. ATI Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition
    3. Nvidia Geforce 6800 GT DDL
    4. Nvidia Geforce 6800 Ultra DDL
(By the way, try finding that information anywhere on the Apple site. I've spent hours researching this.)
I can't find any of the above for sale anywhere, except for #4 for over $500. I'm considering returning the monitor. Will a Geforce 6800 GT from another company such as PNY or Asus work? How about the ATI Radeon X1300?
    Thanks for your help, -jl

  • USB Ports and AGP Video Card on same IRQ

I've got a tough one.  I have 6 USB ports.  Call them 1,2,3,4,5,6. Ports 1 and 2 work fine with my new USB 2.0 80GB External Harddrive.  This pair of ports 1 and 2 are direct into motherboard.
However system crashes when I plug USB 2.0 External Drive into ports 3,4,5,6. These are Dports with cables that plug into the MB.  One of these Dports has the four error lights which are all green.  Western Digital has cautioned against sharing this drive with other IRQs.  Says that the video card and the WD harddrive require dedicated IRQs...but I have no control of how W XP assigns them.
Ports #3-6 work fine with mouse,  scanner, and printer etc. However they fail when trying to use WD External Hardrive.
I also checked IRQ settings and IRQ 16 is used for a USB Port and for my MSI AGP video card.  I believe this conflict is the cause of the problem.
So help..how do I fix this dilemma?
I have Windows XP and see no way to change IRQs.
BIOS does not even show IRQ as a choice..only 1-15.  Also BIOS is latests version for my MSI 845G Max L MS-6580 mother Board.  USB drivers are all Intel.  Video Card Is MSI AGP MS-8878 G4Ti/MX 420 w TV out.  Bios and Drivers are current.
How can I run the USB 2.0 External Harddrive in Ports 3-6?

I did load new Intel INF Drivers and AGP drivers yesterday.
No luck USB Ports 3-6 still fail with External Hard Drive.
I'm not clear on how to turn back on AICP or ACIP.  BIOS?
Also not IRQs 16-23 are listed with active devices on the Device Manager
    16 has a USB Controller at 24c2
16 also has AGP video card
    17 has Audio '97
    17 also has Fast Eternet.
18 has USB Controller at 24c7
19 has USB Controller at 24c4
23 has PCI to USB Interface.
Port 3-6 do work fine with mouse, dig cam, Scanner, printer.  These ports only fail with External Harddrive plugged in.  Ports 1and2 work fine with external HD??
So question is how do I check on the IRQ ports using AIPC or APIC...or whatever the name is...thanks folks.

then i checked device manager in vga partition, i have hd 6870 and hd 3300 works together. and 4gb of ram is now 3.75gb
but i connected pci-e vga and works well. how can onboard activate while pci-e vga plug in?
there is an issue about bios?  it is latest bios  1.G installed.
i have to rollback bios to 1.F? anyone meet same issue like me?

Alright, so the module is already loaded.  However, I was able to run ekiga and get it to work fine with sudo.  When I attempt to run at console from my user account I get:
    (ekiga:7290): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_strchug: assertion `string != NULL' failed
I've checked all the permissions and everything looks correct, but I am not sure how to check if its udev causing a problem or some other mysterious permission I am unaware of.

  • How to disable external VGA and also enable onboard VGA

    hello,
     my spec is
    cpu corei5 ivybridge
    mis zh77A GA43
    vga hd7770 msi
i want to know, how to disable external VGA and also enable onboard VGA ??
    and
i want to ask too, if i disable external VGA In MB, it is my external VGA still consumption power? or i must unplug my external VGA ?
how much different power consumption between external VGA and onboard VGA on idle time?
because my computer each night be used for download, i want to save power as i can...
also there is a eco mode? i want to know about eco mode, how much power can be save under eco mode? on idle time computer
    sorry my bad english

Well remove the HD7770 and is disabled and doesn't consume any power. You can't enable or disable it the discrete vga when pc is in use. That board does also not support Virtu.
The possible power saving beacuse of eco mode depends on the individual systems. There is no general value. Just try it.

  • Z77A-G43 No onboard VGA,HDMI and DVI, No audio

I have a Z77A-G43 with a i5-3350P processor. I connected my monitor (Iiyama) on the on-board VGA port. After installation i started up the computer. I could see the the computer was starting up on the keyboard but i did not see anything on the monitor. My monitor has two inputs, VGA and HDMI, so i tried the on-board HDMI-port. Again no picture.
Then i put in a videocard in the PCIe slot and connected the monitor on the VGA output of the videocard.
I started up the computer and now i could see the start-up on the monitor, so the monitor and VGA cable are oke.
After installation of the software i saw that there where no speakers attached. Tested the speakers on a other the computer and the are oke. So i have allso a problem with the on-board speakeroutput.
It is a new motherboard and i went back the the shop and got another motherboard, installed it and started up the computer. I got the same problems with this new motherboard as with the one i had before.
I checked all the connections seferal times and did not find anything wrong.
With a videocard i could see in the BIOS. All the connected hardware was recognized.
What could be the problem with the on-board VGA, HDMI and the on-board speakeroutput.

How far has the build progressed? Got the OS installed yet? You have to have the audio driver loaded before you get the audio to work.
