Once again - ORA-28545: error diagnosed by Net8 when connecting to an agent
I'm trying to connect to a SQL server 2012
I've make the ODBC connections (called MOFIBO2, MOFIBO3, MOFIBO4) and i've a succesfull connection to then SQL server.
The Oracle Database is:
Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
I've made 3 versions of the initdg4odbc.ora and they all look the same:
# This is a sample agent init file that contains the HS parameters that are
# needed for the Database Gateway for ODBC
# HS init parameters
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = MOFIBOx (MOFIBO2, MOFIBO3 and MOFIBO4)
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = off
# Environment variables required for the non-Oracle system
#set <envvar>=<value>
My lisener.ora look like this:
# listener.ora Network Configuration File: C:\app\Administrator\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\listener.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

And my mofibo part of then tnsnames.ora look like this (I've made three variants because different "manuals" uses different methods ):

(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=resp-ora02)(PORT=1521))

I created three database link with then following (username and password was in wright case):
create database link MOFIBODB2 connect to "<username>" identified by "<password>" using 'MOFIBO2';
create database link MOFIBODB3 connect to "<username>" identified by "<password>" using 'MOFIBO3';
create database link MOFIBODB4 connect to "<username>" identified by "<password>" using 'MOFIBO4';
when i was trying to select from a table (select * from customers@<DATABASELINKHERE>) i get the errors (substitute MOFIBO2 with MOFIBO3/4 and same error occours):
SQL> select * from customers@MOFIBODB2;
select * from customers@MOFIBODB2
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-28545: error diagnosed by Net8 when connecting to an agent

What is my mistake?Hi,
In the listener.ora you have the host as -
(HOST = resp-ora01)
but in the tnsnames.ora entries you have -
(HOST=resp-ora02)
The tnsnames.ora host must be the same as the listener host.
Unless you have a listener running on resp-ora02 it isn't clear why the tnsping returns a result.
Change the host in the tnsnames.ora and let us know what happens.
Regards,
Mike -
ORA 12514 once again..
Hello, I knew, there are thousends of topics similiar to mine. I read them all. Nothing works for me. And there i will discribe my problem: I created a Oracle database using Oracle SQL developer setting values :
connection name: test,
username: bob,
password: qwerty
Connection type: basic,
role: defoult,
Hostname: localhost,
port: 1521,
SID : orcl.
Reason im writing all of this is that i rally did everything possible, and i hope that by providing each kind of data someone will be able to help me.
My next step was downloading and instaling ODAC 11.2 Release 4 (11.2.0.3.0) with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio.
When i want make a connection to databese from my application using server explorer im entering following data:
data source name: //localhost:1521/test
user name: ADMIN
password : qwerty
connection name is being set automaticly.
When im trying to test connection im getting ORA 12514... and here it is how i changed mine tnsname.ora:

Report ORA-12514 once restart Oracle 10.2 database
OS: Windows2003 Standard Edition SP1
Oralce 10.2.0.1.0 for Micorsoft Windows(32bit)
I install Oracle 10.2 on Windows 2003, during installation, reports a waring at Product-Specific Prerequisite Checks:
Checking Network Configuration requirements ...Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
Problem: The install has detected that the primary IP address of the system is DHCP-assigned.
Recommendation: Oracle supports installations on systems with DHCP-assigned IP addresses; However, before you can do this, you must configure the Microsoft LoopBack Adapter to be the primary network adapter on the system. See the Installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP.
I try to modify the Network config from assign IP address automatically to specify static IP address. then, Oralce can be installed successfully, and create database, connect to database... all work well.
But once I do restart(stop/start) the database server, then the database can not be connected and report error ORA-12514. but I do not do any changes, only restart the database server.
I also try to configure LoopBack metioned in the warning message, but it does not work as well.
I try to install Oracle10.2 on other clean machines with different OS, like Windows XP sp2, I got the same result.
Also, I doubt database server does not really start when restarting it, although no error or warning is reported. because of I watch the system memory usage, I do not see any increase of memory when I start the database server, it's not normal.
I setup a Oralce10.1 server on the same machine, it has not this problem.
Could anyone help me to solve it?
Thanks verfy much.

and pass (it does not prompt for service name) and
after entering those two connection is established as
shown belowIn the username field you could input for example user@service
If this is the only oracle product installed on the machine, and you are connecting to it locally, you could use just
sqlplus system/system
which uses the "default" instance (on Windows, that is).
lsnrctl services
I have no idea why the XE service is unavailable
while it is properly configured in my tnsnames.oralsnrctl serv is on the server side, it does not matter what you have in tnsnames.ora
Normally the database should register itself to the listener, so the XE instance should have a service for it listed.
If you restart the instance's Windows service, does it show up in the listener?

Hi all,
I have installed the oracle xe in my windows xp machine. for some reason i have shut down the oracle and given "startup restrict" mode, but it is thrown the below mentioned error
"SQL> startup restrict;
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect
descriptor"
please help me.
ThanksThe reason why this error shows is because oracle is self-registered against listener, so when it shuts down the listener deregisters the instance and any further attempt to contact it will result in an ORA-12514 error.
Once the instance is restarted it will contact again the listener and will registers against it once more. This process will take no more than 60 seconds, but you can force it by issuing the command:
ALTER SYSTEM REGISTER;

10g Installation and Error : ORA-12514 : Listerner cant recog. service requ
Hi,
I installed 10g, and trying to start sql plus. I entered
username: orcl
password: my own password
host string: name of my computer
I am getting the error: ORA-12514: TNS: Listener does not currently know of service orequested in connect descriptor.
I started the services and tried again but same problem.
I also tried system and sysman as username, w/o a password and included my computer name, but still facing the same problem.
Any thing else I should do besides uninstalling and reinstalling ?
ThanksWhere did the user name orcl come from? It certainly is not going to be there unless you logged in with a DBA account and created it: Did you?
So back to basics ... what version of Oracle did you install? 10g is a marketing label not a version number. It is likely something between 10.1.0.2 and 10.2.0.4.
Second how did you install the database? With the Oracle Universal Installer or with a script? Were there any error messages?
Have you checked the installation log?
Has it ever worked in the past and is now broken or has it never worked?
Is the listener running? How did you check?
When you say "I started the service" you are in what operating system and you started what service and how?
My guess, and it is only a wild guess given how little information you provided, is that there is an issue in your listener.ora and/or tnsnames.ora files: Post them along with the value you are entering as "Host" when you try to log in.
Again just a guess ... the user name should be SYSTEM, the password whatever you entered, and the Host "orcl." -
URGENT: ORA-12514: Message 12514 not found;
Hi, I have a big problem:
I have a PC (PC1) with an Oracle 9.2.0.5 database.
I have other PC (client=PC2) with Oracle forms and reports runtime installed.
I try to execute my .fmx from PC2 and everything was ok.
After that, I installed again in another server (PC3) the Oracle database, and when I tried to connect from my client (PC2) to the new database, it appears the error:
ORA-12514: Message 12514 not found; Product=RDBMS80; Facility=ORA
Why is giving this error? May be the PC3 needs an ORACLE_HOME environment variable or similar?
I've seen the following in relation with oracle_home:
In the PC server (PC3) the ora_home variable in regedit (it doesn't exists as windows environment variable) is e:\oracle\ora92
It's different from oracle_home in PC2 (Pc client) , in which is: c:\orant
Is it important?
Is this error possible because of the TNSNAMES configuration?
Please help me, is very urgent for me.
Thanks a lotHi guys,
I've solved the problem: It was in the TNSNAMES. The service_name was incorrect. I changed it and it worked. -
Problem: ORA-12514, TNS:listener does not currently know of service request
When I enter a command for an Oracle 10g Express installation I am getting the following error:

The command was successfully executed.Hi,
no, you got it wrong:
Oracle uses network services which are a logical representation of the database to resolve network requests.
in your ntsnames.ora file you have the following:
network_alias = my_alias -- here you can write anything you just need to resolve it correctly
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=
(PROTOCOL=TCP)
(host=hostname or IP)
(port=listener adapter port)
) -- this a complete socket information of the listener adapter!!
(CONNECT_DATA=
(SERVICE=your_service) -- this is what you tell the listener about the service you want to connect to. It is defined in the instance with the paramter service_names
In general it is network aliasses which are resolved with connect descriptor in the tnsnames.ora.
A connect decriptor consists of the address part + the connect_data part.
The address part is used to reach the listener.
The connect_data part is the information you hand over to the listener.
So the listener must know the service name.
The listener can either know this from the instance itself. When an Oracle instance is started it tries to registrer itself with a listener which listens on port 1521 for the protocol TCP.
The instance tell this listener two paramater values: INSTANCE_NAME and SERVICE_NAMES. Then the listener knows the instance and which services are defined. It is just a reprentation of the database to the listener.
If the listerner knows the service requested with a connect, it can establish a connection to a service handler. This could be a dedicated server process or a dispatcher.
Another mehtod to let the listener know the service requested is so called static regustration of the instance. This is made with an SID LIST in the listener.ora file.
Then the listener knows SID for the instance plus ORACLE_HOME and can find the executable to start a server process for a connect request.
Hope it helps a little-.
=;-)

I've select from Oracle Universal Installer the default setings (Enterprise option and orcl database name) ;
In Computer Management-> Services I have only "OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener"
service; The "Orcl" database services has been removed when I hit the "Abort" option (when I received ORA-12514 error);
Anyone can iluminate me with this problem?
A few months ago I've installed the 10g product version with no error!
Before I try to install 10g relese 2(beta), I read plenty of documentation about installing the new verision of 10g release 2, and I removed any trace from old 10g Oracle (directories, registry, environment variabile,etc)
The problem is that I can't install now even the old 10g version!
I've tried on another Pc (this PC, let's say "never hear before the word ORACLE" and have the same config winXP+sp2) ..and again the same ORA-12514 error appear!
Because I could install the old 10g on my T43 laptop a few mounths ago with no error, I think the only explanation is that the windows updates, which I 've upgrade my laptop in this time cause the Oracle instalation/create database services to crush!
Am I right...? what can I do? ... I realy need the ORACLE 10g to move on it, my old Oracle 9 databases, and continue my development work!
Thanks! Have a nice day!
XaMI see your tnsnames.ora does not contain an entry for service_name srvdzt43 , so EZCONNECT (or hostname) resolution is used, this is possible because service_name and hostname are the same.
There's a known problem with EZCONNECT connections, if a connect string is provided, but no password (throws ORA-12514), maybe there's something like that in the DB creation scripts.
I recommend you add a proper connect string into tnsnames.ora and try again. -
TNS Listener -ORA-12514 error following database shutdown - Oracle 11g
Hi
I have hit a problem with my oracle development database.
When in sqlplus I executed the shutdown command, but nothing happened for several minutes and it was just hanging. No messages were displayed to the screen. The only thing was to close the command window. When I open sqlplus again and enter in the user name password as sysdba I am getting ORA 12514 TNS Listener could not resolve service in descriptor. This is odd as I could log on before and use the database. So I thought that the services were still shutting down I waited, and using the Windows snap on tool for Oracle 11g, I restarted the services on the database, but this has had no effect.
Even using EM made no difference because I couldn't log on to perform a startup or recovery.
So, please does anyone know how I can fix this?

open Command Window & do EXACTLY as below; line for line
sqlplus
/ as sysdba
shutdown abort
startup
exit
COPY command & results from above then PASTE all back here -

The only 10g software certified/supported on Win 7 (Professional or higher) is 10.2.0.5. Win Home versions are not supported.

Other versions may or may not work - so fixing any errors that result from unsupported/uncertified combinations is up to you.

Database Configuration Assistant ora-12514 error
When I create a new database through Database Configuration Assistant using "Create a Database" or configurate the orcl database using "Configure Database options"
Preparing to Configure Database is OK.
Completing Database Configuration is failed.
It shows the following message:
Enterprise manager configuration failed due to the following error -
Listener is not up or database service is not registered with it.
Start the Listener and register database service and run EM Configuration Assistant again.
After open emConfig.log, it shows "ora-12514".
When using the SQL Developer, the new instance can be connected.
However, I cannot change the new instance in the dbconsole.
Please help to solve the problem.

Perculiar ORA-12514 TNS:listener does not currently know of service request
Hi all
I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask this but I was wondering whether Anyone has ran into a similar problem or know how to solve this seeing as this involes SOA.
I am running Oracle 10g 10.2.0.4 and Oracle SOA 10.1.3.3. I've also written a piece of code that connects to the database using the database's jndi name from a connection pool. I can start the DB and the SOA with no problems however, if I try and connect to the database using one of the connection objects from the connection pool , i.e.
db = connection.getConnection("jdbc/LocalASDBDataSource");
the listener stops working and I get the error message
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
I know that prior to trying to get the connection from the connection pool, the listener works because if i run lsnrctl services, it reports that the listener is up and running but after the point where I try to get the connection i.e.
db = connection.getConnection("jdbc/LocalASDBDataSource");
the listener stops working. If run lsnrctl services, it then reports that the listener supports no services. The only way I can get the service and the listener to start working is to delete the listener and the Service using Net Manager and then recreating it again but then every time that I run the code again, I get back to the error
the funny thiing is that this only started when I increased the processes because I was gettig ORA-12518: TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
The jndi properties file that I use to create my initial context is
java.naming.factory.initial=com.evermind.server.ApplicationClientInitialContextFactory
java.naming.provider.url=opmn:ormi://localhost:6003:oc4j_soa
java.naming.security.principal=oc4jadmin
java.naming.security.credentials=password1
My Listener.ora is

Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks!The tnsname.ora is not used in this situation as the datasource / connection pool connects via jdbc.
What happens if you bounce the database, instead of deleting the service.
It sounds like you are hitting bug 6017068.
Have a look at that patch
cheers
