Once OS starts...Freezes..Asks for me to reset.

This problem started a couple days ago. The only changes I had made were updating my computer with the new OS X update and some other updates. My computer would only work on safe mode. Even that's hard to make happen. Once it freezes a message (in gray) pops up asking me to hold onto the power button in order to restart. I have done this many times. I just reloaded the OS and wiped my drive. It worked fine for a while until a slew of updates were installed. I'm not sure whether it's something wrong with the updates or not. I am sure it is not a hardware issue since it worked fine before any programs were added. Anybody experiencing the same problems? Any suggestions how to stop the freezing. MACs aren't suppose to freeze!!!

You can try running "Apple Hardware Test" to see if it confirms it (note: AHT is not fail safe)
If CD's came with your computer it is on a CD labeled "Hardware Test" To test with CD, insert the CD and restart holding the "c" key until you see the spinning gear.
If DVD insert DVD then:
1. Turn on or restart the computer.
2. Immediately press and hold the Option key. After a few seconds, the Startup Manger screen appearsThe Startup Manager scans for available volumes.
3. Optional: Clicking the circular arrow rescans for other volumes, including NetBoot Server volumes. You can eject any disc in the drive or open an empty tray-loading drive by holding down the Command (Apple) and Period (.) keys. The Command-Period key combination will also close the drive. After inserting a CD capable of starting up your computer, you could rescan for volumes.
4. Click the startup volume you want to use. "Hardware Test"
If hardware test does not mount or does not run bring the computer to Authorized Apple Repair.

None of the options work. I press the power on button keeping the option and R button pressed but the only option that appears is
First blank white screen appears as soon as i power on (option R is pressed) and then the following message
No bootable Device -- Insert boot disk and press any key
(Ethernet cable is connected but it does not go for internet recovery either)
    No more activity.
Also if you can guide from where I can download OS X Lion for reinstalling it to the imac, please.
Does every mac come with a restore/bootable disk or not? We ordered two macs but did not get any disk with any of them.

  • HT1338 Daughter's MacBook Pro started and asked for 6 digits on a grey screen?

Daughter's MacBook Pro started and asked for 6 digits on a grey screen?

6 digits sounds like the code sent from Find My Mac when locking the machine. It can only be reset by an Apple Store.

  • I updated my mac from 10.6.5 to 10.6.8 and now my CS 3 doesent start, its asking for a new license, but i never changed anything. Any Help with that thanks

I don't know if this update involved rewwriting the entire operating system whereby you essentially transferred the software from one system to another, but if so, then you need to uninstall and reinstall the software and reactivate it using your serial number.

  • Satellite L50 won't start up - asks for HDD password

    Hi
    hopefully someone can help me
I have a Toshiba Satellite L50 laptop and when i start it up it says
+no bootable device please restart system+
It is still under waranty as it was only bought 6 months ago.
I took it back where i bought it and they told me to contact Toshiba.
I am waiting on a call back.
I am hoping someone can help. It also asks for HDD password.
Where do I find that information?

    Hi Kym
I guess the Satellite L50 cannot find the bootable device (HDD) because the HDD has been secured with an HDD password and without this password the HDD isnt accessible and the system will not boot up properly.
Did you set such HDD password in the past?
Im asking because such password isnt set on new notebooks. Such HDD password can be set only by notebook owner
From my knowledge if you dont know such HDD password, you will not be able to get access to the HDD in such case the HDD would be useless and the data would be lost
Therefore I would recommend you to check if someone has set the HDD password on your notebook in case you dont know the password, you will need to replace the HDD and to reinstall the system once again.

  • Email started often asking for password

This is strange. I've had my n8 for a couple of months now, and its been fine but in the last week or so some strange thing has started happening.
It regularly grabs my email fine but for some reason every so often asks for my password again. I'm using my phone and suddenly this prompt pops up demanding my email password. It does it most often for my bt internet email, several times a day, occasionally for my yahoo email, but never for my gmail adress.
Any ideas why its started doing this and how I can fix it?

Since I bought my N8 I'm currently facing the same issue. I have 3 email accounts, each having a widget entry in the third home screen. It asks me at minimum once a day the password for some of the 3 email accounts (one is [email protected]). I must add that the N8 messaging is hanging once a day, ie it doesn't update anymore some of the email accounts. In this case I have to switch off then on the N8. And then some minutes after that it asks some of the passwords again, not always... Any idea ?

  • My Portege 7020CT at start up ask for BIOS update disk

I have a Toshiba Portege 7020CT and it will not boot up as it asks for a bios update disk to be inserted into floppy then press any key.
Can anyone explain were to get the bios update disk from please and how to fix this? Many thanks.

The BIOS should be available on the Toshiba driver page.
But its very strange that the unit ask for the BIOS update.
Did you get any error messages like RTC battery is empty or something like that?
Try to enter the BIOS and try to set the bios to default options and then save the settings and try to start the notebook again.

  • IPhone 4S has started randomly asking for passwords; saying they're wrong

    Hi Folks,
I don't normally post to these forums because I tend to solve my own issues, but I'm having a problem with my iPhone 4S which has stumped (and angered) me.
The device is running version 6.0.1 and isn't jailbroken or interfered with in any way.
A couple of days ago it started asking me to input the password for both my me.com and gmail.com accounts and when I did as prompted the device tells me that they're wrong - but they aren't! The issue means that I can't access either of my email accounts from my device and I can't download apps that I've previously bought and paid for.
    I have tried:
    Restoring the device
Deleting both accounts from the device and starting again
Using the Google captcha to give the device access permissions again
    Rebooting
Turning off 2-step security on Google
    Changing my me.com password
    Changing my Google password
So far none of these have worked and I'm rapidly approaching my wits-end whereupon I hoy the device full pelt at a wall and buy something else.
Could anyone shed a little light (or sanity) to this issue?
    Thanks in advance.

This issue is still a real pain in the arse - does anyone have any ideas?
Thought of asking Apple but was told that I'd have to pay them just to ask a question about a flaw with one of their products! Great customer service.

  • G5 starts keeps asking for restart after 1st. application is started

I have a three year old G5 that has always worked fine, suddenly this week the fan started racing at high speed and locked up, the only way I could stop it was to unplug it. Since that time it starts normally including fully loading up all programs and files on the desktop and even runs through my Ding fare info from SW but if I try using any program within a moment or two the screen will shade dark gray and tells me in three languages that I need to hold the power button for several seconds to restart my computor then the whole process starts over again with the same results. Anyone know whats wrong with it and how fix it? Thanks

    Hi baddad-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple Discussion boards
How full is the hard drive?
Try booting from your OSX install disk and run Disk Utility to repair permissions on your hard drive.

  • Macbook Pro 2011 - Freeze/Ask for Restart

I just purchased the new Macbook Pro 15 inch from the apple store. Seriously a beast compared to my Late 2006 Macbook. Surprised at how much of a difference it truly makes. I sold my old Macbook to help pay for the MBP and haven't looked back. Now i'll stop gushing.
The one and only issue i have with the Macbook Pro is that twice it has frozen, and greyed out the desktop and popped a message up asking me to RESTART the MBP in about 3-4 different languages. I was wondering why I might be having this issue? I mean this is about a week old and this message is cropping up. Just wondering if anyone has encountered this and their solution.
My only solution which i haven't tried yet would be a boot from CD and disk utility repair of the HD, but is that necessary?

    Ho Lee,
Thank you for your quick response, I came across that as well when I was searching for answers as well. I'm not new to troubleshooting macs but just was wondering if anyone else was encountering the issue as well.
But that was a good reminder to dig deeper into which programs are active when the Kernal panic occurs and make sure they are updated to the newest realease.

  • Each start iTunes asks for registration account info

Since the latest update to 7.2 with iTunes Plus, every time when I start iTunes, the app asks my dot Mac account and password. I never had this before.
I find it anoying having to enter this @mac.com account name plus password when I start iTunes.
Who knows how to solve this?
