One America News Network

Today I was going through Verizon's new GUI schedule to see what channels had mysteriously appeared to replace others that had just as mysteriously disappeared, and stumbled upon another new one, One America, a channel ensconced within the news section.
I sat through a few straightforward headline news segments of One America, but then during the commercial breaks, I was appalled to witness obviously propagandistic libertarian messages in the form of historic speeches. These were accompanied by insidious visuals to further push the message in the direction the programmers intended. There was a speech by Theodore Roosevelt (which actually turns out to be transcribed from a popular email that was circulated in the last decade, but was based on the actual speeches and a letter Roosevelt produced). Here's the segment:
"There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
The first thing that came to my mind was North Korea. I envisioned goose-stepping minions with their right hands on the shoulders of the ones marching next to them. Unity and uniformity uber alles.
Another between-the-segments interstitial was in the form of Bill Clinton giving a speech on "welfare reform," which was given in 1996 after it became clear he was turning into a Republican. That segment of his speech was accompanied by visuals of urban blight and dilapidated school rooms. It had libertarian worldview written all over it.
To further investigate, I checked OANN's Facebook page where I saw one satisfied viewer's opinion on those commercial break "messages":
"The accurate history lessons during the breaks are a wonderful public service. Its a reminder to the younger generation of what their responsibilities are to protect liberty and freedom."
Right wing people are constantly saying that liberals have all the other media at their disposal, "why can't we have just one or two?" Even OANN CEO Robert Herring, Sr. says this, which goes to show ignorance runs through all economic classes. It's wrong, of course, because all the other lower tier news programming on Verizon is owned by multinational corporations--newsflash, they all have a corporate slant and a corporate worldview, hardly amenable to liberalism. For instance, we call CNN the Corporate News Network. MSNBC has liberal programming but only during the week in prime-time. They have liberal programming because it just happens to make money for the corporation that owns it. And you'll never hear a thing about media consolidation or net neutrality on MSNBC, because it's owned by NBCUniversal, a subsidiary of Comcast. Not exactly a liberal world view.
I'm still waiting for Verizon to bring Free Speech TV to the lower tier. I have a feeling I'll be waiting a very long time for that to happen.

...Or cancel your service if your political agenda is so important.

  • Al Jazeera vs. One America News

I'm a news junkie, especially now as we enter the presidential primary/election season.  I watch all national news channels but have no desire, need or interest in Al Jezeera.  One American News is available but I have to change programming (and therefore pay extra) to get it.  This makes no sense.   I am requesting that everyone petition Verizon to make Al Jezeera an optional extra charge choice and provide One America News in a standard package.  In short swap them.   I'm an American - born and bred, a veteran, a deeply patriotic, flag-waving American with no need, intertest or desire to have middle-eastern, muslim controled news programs broadcasted into my home.  If I need to know something about anything that area of the world is doing or what they think, I'll get it from CNN, MSNBC, FOX or One America News.  Verizon, in a day when you advertise programming the channels we want to watch, I ask that you do the right thing. Oo-rah!

Thanks but I can't agree.  I believe Verizon is large enough, economically powerful enough and certainly can be politically influencial enough to replace One America News with Al Jazeera without fear of violating some packaging contract. And, simply not to watch this programming does not provide the solution of providing an American News outlet in place of Al Jazeera.  Or, how about giving subscribers the choice?  Verizon's current advertising even touts the customer's ability to select and pay for the stations they want.  So subtract this one and add the other. So what you are saying is they can just ignore a contract that they have with a provider because they feel like it?That doesn't make any sense. They are already in deep heat from ESPN and another network for not carrying sports channels in their basic channel package which is now custom hd.....which ESPN is saying was in their contract to do so.They do have contracts with other providers which force them to carry channels in certain tiers and not in others. Going against it will trigger lawsuits and channels being dropped. I don't think they want to do that. Cost to carry the channels per subscriber also plays a factor with what goes where. The new custom hd package doesn't allow one to pick and choose channels, just channel packs. A la carte is still a ways away and won't exactly be cost effective. If one wants a channel that isn't offered in the channel pack then upgrading to a non custom one that has it is the only way for now.Do I think they should offer better news programming in the news and info pack in custom hd? of course, but they are going to do whatever they do for whatever reasons be it contracts, pricing, etc.. If you really want to get your word through though and you have every right to do so, I'd write a letter to the CEO of Verizon if you can find the mailing address. Unless it lands in the right hands, it won't go anywhere. Since these are peer to peer forums nothing would ever come from it here and changing channel packs won't do anything either so going to the right desk would be the thing to do in my opinion. It still may never go anywhere, but at least it would go somewhere rather then nowhere.

  • Add One America News to Lineup

Please add One America News to the lineup. The left has ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CBS, PBS and CNN.  The right has Fox, and that's it.  Another voice on the right (or in the case of One America, libertarian) is desperately needed. If Comcast needs to find a place in the lineup, I would think that Al Jazeera's channel would be perfect.

I have it on my ATT service I think it is better thant FNC and the news is straight up news, no opinions, they have opinion shows for that and yep they are a bt Libertarian in point of view.

  • TS4062 Syncing with a new network/router

I am having trouble on syncing on a new WIFI network.
I moved and I have a new router with a new network name. Since that I cannot sync over wifi.
On syncing options on the ipod says that I will be able to sync via wifi when "old network" is available.
I cannot change network name to the old one cause new network name is setup by ISP.
Hope it is clear enough and someone can help me.
    Thanks.

Do you have a Google account? I find Google the easiest to use for contact syncing, as it's platform and device independent. You just set up your Google account as an exchange account on all of your devices and the contacts and calendars are there. Easy peasy.
If not, I'm sure someone with more experience of iCloud will be along soon.

  • TS4611 Guys if you have these build: 12E3200 and your wifi is dropping, is not the your mid 2013 macbook air, is your router, I solve it by setting up my time capsule as a new network problem solved

Here is what I have been doing:
I got my new macbook air 11" two weeks ago, and have been haven problems with wifi connection dropping, I'm using verizon fioz at home, and their router
I also have a time capsule not set up as a network just join it to my current one.
After looking online all these days, I though, maybe is the verizon device that is updated..
I then reset the time capsule, created a new network
connected my system to the time capsule network, and there it is
    DONE, everything works now.
So if you are haven the same problem,, that is the fix
    hope that helps.
Oh  before I did these I try everything, the wifi update from apple don't work it keeps dropping it
I try everything, so don't and delete the system as some people have done, I read somewhere.
try my fix hopes that works.

I have seen lots of issues on Yosemite with Wifi (and have been having issues myself), but yours seem different. It is a pretty new computer, have you tried taking it in under Applecare (if you live somewhere this is convenient)? Maybe you just got a defective wifi card.  I won't defend Apple over this wifi mess, because it really is terrible, but your issue seems not the same as the ones I've read about while researching how to fix mine (unsucessfully....).

  • Configuring the HP PSC 2510 on a new network

I'm posting at the end of a long weekend setting up my psc 2510 on a new wireless network. I'm pretty much done, and I'm posting to share what I've learned with others in the hope of saving them trouble. I'm beyond my warranty period, so my advice is based on a few hints from phone tech support and a lot of work by trial and error.
I have four machines total, two of them running OS X 10.4, the others running 10.3.9.
    1. Start by hooking the printer up to a wired (ethernet) network. Print out a network config page (setup, 6, 1) when the printer shows its blue "networked" light. Dial the printer's URL into your web browser and enter the new network's info into the printer's embedded web server. If you get everything right, when you turn off the printer, disconnect the ethernet cable, and turn on the printer, you'll get that blue "networked" light after a minute or so.
If you don't see the light, print out another config page and check the "Wireless Status": "Scanning" means that the printer's having trouble connecting to the network. Your best bet is to temporarily turn off all wireless encryption/security and reconfigure the printer's connection. Once you have a connection, then try adding various sorts of security/encryption. In my experience, the printer doesn't do well if the SSID of the network isn't being broadcast or with a list of acceptable MAC addresses. In my old network I managed to get the printer running with WPA security, but this time I had to settle for WEP 128 bit security.
The Wireless Status will read "Disabled" if the printer has a USB cable or Ethernet cable attached. This means you need to unplug all cables (and possibly turn the printer off and on) to enable the wireless card. If the Wireless Status is "Disabled" even though you have no cables attached, you have probably reset the printer to factory defaults (see #2 below).
Things to watch for: is the default gateway of the printer the same as that of your new network? I had to change my new network's gateway to "192.168.1.1 addressing" from "10.0.1.1 addressing" because the printer was expecting "192 etc." after being hooked up to a Linksys router for several years.
Also, you may find you need to give the printer a self-assigned (manual) IP address, if other computers, once linked to the printer, lose printing and/or scanning capabilities a few days or weeks later. This can be set in the printer's web access server, but make sure to assign the printer an IP address that's compatible with the range of IPs that your router's is leasing to the network. I'm a novice at this network stuff, so sorry if I'm being vauge on this point.
    2. It's possible I could have saved myself a lot of trouble setting up the printer for the network if I had reset the printer's network settings to factory defaults right at the start. But if you decide to follow HP's instructions and reset network settings to factory defaults, BEWARE: the printer's embedded web server can't for some reason configure the printer to re-enable wireless networking. And the latest download of the hp all-in-one installer doesn't contain the network config utility found on the original HP installation CD. (On this old CD, the config utility isn't part of the install package, but it is invoked automatically during the installation process.)
SOLUTION: Run the PSC 2500 Series installer found on the HP CD, preferably from a Mac running an system older than Tiger. It might also be possible to avoid running the installer and just run the config utility.
From this point on, I'll assume you've managed to get the printer on your network. Here's how to get all your computers configured to use the psc's printer and scanner functions.
HP tech support advised me to download the latest installer/print driver and use that to install and configure the psc 2150. This is good advice, insofar as the old HP Director software has a memory leak and the old HP Scan was prone to crashing whenever the 2510 went into Energy Saving mode. But if your mac isn't running OX X 10.4 (Tiger), you'll find that your system doesn't seem to recognize the new print drivers installed with by the download. This is especially a problem if you follow HP tech support's advice and delete a bunch of files prior to upgrading from the old installer to the new one, as (I suspect) it was at this point that I deleted working printer drivers from my Macs running Mac OS 10.3.9.
So if you're running 10.3.9 or earlier, I advise you not to delete any files and to configure your computer for the print and scanner functions in the opposite order that HP advises.
Most important: through trial and error I discovered that the HP Setup application isn't able to configure the printer if more than one user is logged in (Fast User Switching!). (This is a particularly tricky error to diagnose as the only symptom is that the setup app keeps claiming that it "can't find device" even though in the stage just prior it had successfully detected it!) Log out all other users, then proceed with the following steps:
    1. Go to Print Center (called Print Setup Utility in Tiger), delete your old psc printer (if any) and click "add printer". The psc should show up in HP IP printing or under Rendezvous (called Bonjour in Tiger), and when you click on it, the Add Printer utilty should automatically find the "HP All-in-one" printer driver. If something's gone wrong, though, you may get the message "Print Driver not installed". That's what happened to me after I deleted files (see above).
SOLUTION: Run the PSC 2500 Series installer found on your original HP CD. When it finishes, it will start the HP setup assistant, in the course of which you'll be directed to go to the Print Center and add your printer. Do so.
    2. Once you've added the printer successfully, run the latest HP installer, a download from the HP website. You should be able to skip the step where it asks you to add the printer, as you did this in step one.
    3. Finally, since you didn't delete any files earlier, be sure to remove HP Director from your dock and from your Startup items (Login items in Tiger) by opening Mac System Prefs - Accounts - Startup/Login Items. HP Director has a memory leak. And it is superceded by the newer HP Device Manager when you download and run the latest HP installer. You should find the new HP Device Manager in your dock after step 2 (above).

    Hello dgt228, welcome.
I am not sure why you are choosing EAP.  If you have set your router to use WPA, you should just set your printer to enable WPA. Is your wireless light illuminated on the front of your printer?  Run a Wireless Network Test from the front of the printer to self-test the radio. If you can connect this printer with Ethernet to your router its connection will be more secure and more reliable.

  • Setting up a new network - How does this look?

    Hello,
Current layout of network - http://i30.tinypic.com/fkywav.jpg
We currently use this way of setting up our network and we may be moving to a new office so i'm looking at the best way of setting up the new network while we have a relatively clean slate. All wiring is done via CAT5e ethernet.
We run OS X Server 10.5 and use the following services within the building. File sharing, email, internet. We backup all machines individually with external drives but i'm looking at getting a large storage device to enable everyone to backup to one location using Time Machine Server.
I'd like to know if the way our network is currently set up is the correct way for what we need. In the near future i'd like to start using iCal sharing, and hosting websites internally for web development.
    Regards
    James

What you have will work; it's fairly typical network.
The physical plant, and the plans for expansion, and the current speeds and feeds are also key details when designing a network.
Cat5e? Don't skimp. Go Cat6 or better. Wiring is always around and in use for far longer than any of us want, and the cost of installation is comparatively vastly higher than the cost of the wire itself; retrofitting is to be avoided.
As part of avoiding unnecessary retrofitting, run extra Cat6 or better wiring in parallel, too. Prepare to segment your network based on business organization or on physical organization, or both. The extra runs can provide physical redundancy, and bandwidth. The incremental cost of building out with extra (spare) wire is negligible. The cost of not having a wiring run where you need it is higher.
Without knowledge of the physical plant, I'd also look at the establishment of wiring closets and such; you'll usually have a star at the core of the network in a smaller configuration, then stars at the wiring closet(s) (if any) and out at the desktop. This may be a plan now, and you have the wiring in place for the main runs to retrofit a server closet as you need it. Long wire runs out from the core are a pain. In a moderate or larger network, you'll be using the backhaul connections to the network cores; runs between server closets. (And if you may add server closets, remember the need for cooling can arise.)
Depending on your plans and your network activities, I might (also) establish higher-bandwidth wiring between the wiring closets; what amount to backhaul connections. Either used up front, or in the closets should you need to place switches further out.
Also look for corner cases, such as a business and operational environment where you'll be running a dozen or two client netboot operations at exactly 8:01 each and every morning as each staffer arrives and boots up the workstation; these cases can play havoc with aggregate bandwidth and server requirements.
You may want to consider a parallel network (whether WiFi or wired) for guest access; a conference room or conference center network. You'll almost certainly want 11G and 11N WiFi for your own internal use, too.
Yes, I usually overbuild these things. Planning and wiring are (comparatively) cheap. Installation isn't.
Backing up to a Mac OS X Server disk or a TC disk via TM is part of what you need. If you get corrupted archival volume(s) or if your RAID array is somehow damaged or lost or stolen, you're in deep sneakers. I've had a couple of TC archives corrupted; stuff happens. Plan for off-site archives.

  • Do you have to disable your Wifi on your existing Reuter if using time capsule to Create a new network

Does one need to disable the wifi on ones reuter if using a time capsule to create a new network what happens if you don't and what are the benefits of doing so

No but you may experience a bag of hurt from cross channel interference. You may have to reset the Subset Mask of one of the routers along with separating the broadcast channels.
Further if you then have one device a PC perhaps on one network and your Mac on another you may not be able to share files/ITunes etc.... with any ease.
So switching off the Wifi on the router/modem and hanging an Ethernet cable to the Time Capsule and setting that up as your WiFi router distributing the IP addresses over DHCP really is the least problematical approach.
IF you have cable Internet with a decoder with Ethernet output ditch your old router completely !

  • Move Time Capsule and Laptop to New Network

I have been searching the forums it haven't found a clear answer to this question.  I have been backing up my laptop using Time Machine and Time Capsule on one wireless network (TC has joined the wireless network, it does not serve as the router for the network).  I am now about to move to a new apartment and will be using a new wireless network.  Can I transfer the laptop and the Time Machine to the new network and maintain the continuity of the backups I have been making?  Can anyone provide guidance on how to do that?  Also, is there a way to set it up prior to moving -- I know the SSID and password of the new network.  I feel certain that these questions have come up before, but I can't find clear discussion of it.

My suggestion FWIW. Ask the cable/DSL provider if it would be possible to install just a modem with no router. Connect an Ethernet cable from the modem to the World or WAN port on the Time Capsule. Your computer can connect using wireless or wired as you choose.
The above should be done with all devices turned OFF for at least one minute. After you have everything physically connected first turn on the modem and wait until the status lights indicate it is connected to the ISP. Then power up the Time Capsule and wait until the status light turns Green or is blinking orange (or has changed from blinking to steady orange.) Lastly, power up the computer. Open Airport Utility and proceed from there.
If all goes well you will have a functioning network under the control of the Time Capsule router.
If the ISP will not provide a separate modem, then you have some potential problems using your Time Capsule. You would have to configure it to run in Bridge Mode. That means in Airport Utility you have to configure the Wireless setting to use the Join an Existing Network option. I can't tell you if a Time Capsule will work with a third-party router properly, but that is how you have to set it up.

  • Music files moved to a new network drive with a new volume name

I had to replace my old network attached harddisk which held all my music ( mainly mp3 ) files. This drive was automounted and had the name "MUSICHD". My new network attached storage device ( LACIE Ethernet Disk mini 500GB ) has the volume name "SHARE" and it's not possible to change it.
I copied all the files onto the the new drive, but now I have to tell iTunes that the files are not longer on a volume called MUSICHD. Could somebody be so kind and give me an advice how to do it. Shure I could re-import all the music files, but I don't like to loose all my ratings, playlists, etc.
    -wolfgang
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   iPod 5G

to be precise. I don't let iTunes manage my files. All my mp3 files are on a NAS ( Network Attached Storage ) device ( it's a 300 GB Harddisk with a 1GBit network connection from Buffalow ).
If I add mp3 files to my library I first copy it to the NAS device and than drag and drop the files to the iTunes library. So iTunes only manages the links to that files. Files are not imported or copied to/with iTunes.
Now I have to replace that NAS device by another one. Due to this replacement I have to change the network volume-name of the device. This share is part of the link in the iTunes database for each file.
If you look into the xml file you'll find something like this:
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/SHARE/MUSIK/Blues/Dupree,%20Champion%20Jack/Blues%20From%20the%20Gutter/Dupree,%20Cha mpion%20Jack%20-%20Blues%20From%20the%20Gutter%20-%2001%20-%20Strollin'.mp3</str ing>
So the "simple" question is. How to tell iTunes that all my music files are now on another volume?

  • Difference between new network and extended network

Difference between extended network and new network settings

An "extended" network acts as one large wireless network. Wireless devices can roam anywhere a signal is present and stay on the network without having to make any changes.
A "new" network will require that a wireless device manually "switch" to that network and enter the password for the network to connect whenever you want to use that network. In other words, a "new" network will use a different wireless network name and password, which will require that you manually log on to that network.
The exception would be if you created a "new" wireless network and used the same wireless network name, same wireless security settings and same password as the "main" network and connected the AirPort back to the main router using an Ethernet cable. In that case, you would have an "Ethernet extended wireless" network.

  • BUG: Access Connect Abort, when I create a new network profile.

    Where can I report bugs?
My system is windows xp sp2 on X60.
I have been using AC-4.42(Access Connection) for a long time. And before,  there is no problem when I added new network profile into it.
But yesterday, I wanted to add a new profile into it. I opened the "create profile" window and input the name of the new profile (I have two network adapters, wired and wireless. So by default, the both are selected. And I left the default selection unchanged.), then "Next". The 2nd window is about wireless config, I configured everything, then go on "Next", at this moment, an error occured and AC aborted with four error windows. The titles of those windows are "ACMainGUI.exe error" and "ACMainGUIWnd: ACMainGUI.exe".
Then I did it again, I opened the "create profile" window, and this time, in this (1st) window, I changed the selection of network adapter, besides inputing the name of the new profile. I only selected the wired adapter, and then "Next". Sadly, this time the 2nd(next) window did not appear(pop up) at all. Instead, those four error windows poped up one by one.  AC aborted again.
I repeated the above operations many times, and everytime, AC aborted.
So I went to the online "support and download" to look for some updates about AC. And I found AC-4.52 with luck. After downloading and installing, unfortunately the problem still exists. AC-4.52 still aborts when I create a new network profile.
So now, what to do. I have no ways. I am expecting the developers could note this problem and fix it and give me a newer update as soon as possible.
    Sigh...

I have exactly the same issue. Next to the actions mentioned by ixbm I have also fully uninstalled and reinstalled the AC-4.52, but this didn't help.
Any idea on how to solve, installing older version?
