One Apple ID for iTunes...dont want to share photos/contacts/calendars....now what???
We have always just had the one Apple ID for the family....sync my iPod and the kids iPod along with my iPad. Just upgraded to iOS 5 on my iPhone 4 and hubby's iPhone 4....now our calendars have merged. We dont mind sharing apps but dont want to deal with each other calendars or contacts. Had to restore husbands phone once after upgrade bc iMessage was frozen on "waiting" ... how do I handle this when we all sync to same MacBook??
You'll want a separate iCloud account for each user in addition to the main Apple ID used for purchases.
Let's say you have a family of four (husband, wife, and two children). Here is what you will need:
Main Apple ID for shared purchases in Tunes (everybody will be using this)
iCloud (Apple ID) account for husband
iCloud (Apple ID) account for wife
iCloud (Apple ID) account for child 1
iCloud (Apple ID) account for child 2
Yes, you can have both an Apple ID and iCloud account setup on the same device.
On each iOS device, setup the main Apple ID account for the following services:
iCloud (Photo Stream and Backup are the only items selected here).
Music Home Sharing
Video Home Sharing
Photo Stream
Additionally, on each iOS device, add a new iCloud account (Under Mail, Contacts, Calendar) that is unique to each user for the following services:
Mail (if using @me.com)
Contacts
Calendars
Reminders
Bookmarks
Notes
Find My iPhone
Messages
Find Friends
FaceTime
On your individual Macs (or Mac accounts), use the main Apple ID in iTunes. Then, use the unique iCloud account in/for iCloud.
Now that everbody is using separate iCloud accounts for your contacts, calendars, and other things, it will be all be kept separate.
The only thing that is now 'shared' would be iTunes content (apps and other purchases), backups via iCloud (if enabled), and Photo Stream (if enabled).

Each person should get their own Apple ID so they can individually sync and maintain their personal files and other data. If you have but one computer to share, then each user should have a separate user account on the computer.
Although your computer can handle more than one user account, iDevices are intended for a single user, not multiple users sharing the same account or Apple ID. -
We have 3 Apple Id's, each ID using an iPad and an iPhone (3 id's, 3 iPads, 3 iPhones). We want to use one calendar on all 6 devices and have that one calendar update or sync to all devices. We would like all 6 devices to provide notifcations from the one unique calendar as well. We do not want to share contacts, photos, ect. Please suggest how to achieve this, with the name of the calendar, if I am to get one from the App store, and how to set this up. Please talk in easy terms as I am technically Challenged. If I understand correctly you want all 6 devices to have access to a single calendar that each device gets notifications for and can edit. You can do that with an private iCloud shared calendar. First sign into www.icloud.com and use these steps from the following article to share a calendar:
iCloud: Share a calendar with others
Share a calendar privately
Click the Share button to the right of the calendar name in the sidebar, then select Private Calendar.
Note: You can also share the same calendar publicly. For instructions, see the next task, “Share a calendar publicly.”
Type the invitee’s email address in the Add Person field and press Return.
Click the pop-up menu with the invitee’s name and choose access privileges (View & Edit or View Only).
For each person you want to share the calendar with, repeat steps 2 and 3.
When you’ve invited everyone and set their privileges, click OK.
Invitation emails are sent from your iCloud email address to the participants you specified.

How do I create separate iCloud id for three of my IOS devices?

Macbook airIf she doesn't have an iCloud account on her iPhone or iPad now, you can just go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with a different Apple ID to set up the new account, then turn on the data that you want to sync with iCloud. She can continue to use the same ID for the App and iTunes store; it doesn't need to be the same as the the ID she uses for iCloud.
If she is already sharing your iCloud account on her devices, you should go to Settings>iCloud on her phone, tap Delete Account (which only deletes the account from her phone, not from iCloud), when prompted choose Keep on My iPhone, then set up a new account by signing back in with a different Apple ID. Then turn on the data she wants to sync with iCloud, and when prompted, choose Merge to upload her data to the new account. After doing this on her phone, go to Settings>iCloud on her iPad, tap Delete Account, when prompted choose Delete from my iPad, then sign into the new account just created on her phone using the new ID and turn on her data syncing to sync the iCloud data in the new account to her iPad. Finally, if you have any merged data in your accounts from sharing the original account, you'll need to go to icloud.com on your computer, sign into each iCloud account separately and delete the data you don't want from each account. -

I was invited to join a photo stream from a friend. My wife and I only have one email associated with our phones, the photostream message went to only my wife's phone and not mine although the invite was in my inbox on the associated account I appreciate any help.
Problem solved forwarded the invite to to my phone which is associated rto another account now it is working......

my family all shares one apple ID for iTunes so we can share music. but I have my own apple ID for my phone and ipad. on my phone, I can have two separate IDs, but I'm wondering if its the same for my macbook pro. If i download the new OS, it asks for my apple ID. I would like to put in my personal one so that i can get texts and such. but I would want my iTunes to be my family account. is this possible?
You can use one account with iTunes on your Mac, and different account(s) with the Mac App Store (for buying/downloads apps or OS updates for your Mac), iCloud (System Preferences > iCloud) and Messages (Messages > Preferences, or command-comma)

Different Apple IDs for iTunes and iCloud
As a legacy from MobileMe, I have one Apple ID for iTunes (around 10 years old) that has all of my purchases, and another for iCloud (created later as a requirement of MobileMe) that has all the email, syncing, etc. Apparently now I can't use Family Sharing because I am signed into iTunes and iCloud with different Apple IDs.
This has caused other issues as well for years, and I would like to once and for all have one Apple ID for both iTunes and iCloud. What will happen if I start signing into iCloud with my original iTunes Apple ID? I'm assuming I will lose the following:
-- Any email in the cloud
-- All calendar info
-- All notes
Am I correct?
Anything else I would lose?
Any way to avoid losing all this?
Is there a better way to solve this issue?

Multiple Macs using same Apple ID for iTunes
I have two macs, and I've been trying to download itunes purchased content onto one that I purchased on the other. I'm using the same Apple ID for iTunes access on both, but now it won't let me download, giving me that infuriating message about only being able to associate a device with one Apple ID over a three month period. I've neved used any other Apple ID for this, so I'm very confused about what could be happening. Only started after "upgrading" to iOS5 and iCloud.
iTunes Match is associated with only one Apple ID and cannot be shared across Apple IDs. For your wife to make use of iTunes Match and see the music in the cloud she must login to your Apple ID on the iTunes Store and she will have to stay logged in. This may cause difficulty when updating apps purchased with her Apple ID.
Also keep in mind that a computer can only be associated with one Apple ID for iTunes Match, automatic downloads and re-downloading of content once every 90 days: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627. -
Same Apple ID for iTunes, but different Windows accounts...
My wife and I use the same Apple ID for iTunes, but we have different Windows 7 accounts on the same computer. I've uploaded a pile of CDs. ITunes Match seems to match them ok, but she can't see them from iTunes on her account. We could upload the CDs twice, once for each account, but that's a wicked waste of time. Is there a workaround for this?

We had one family apple id. I want to keep all devices on the same apple id for itunes but separate for everything else on the cloud. How can I change the other apple ids now? We have 3 iphones and an ipad.

I am relatively new to apple (have an iPad) and having been a PC user for years I was pleasantly surprised with the apple experience and am now trying to work out the best set up for me, my husband and young son as I am buying them both of them apple products this Christmas. New Mac laptop/ ipad for hubby and then an ipod touch for my son oh and a new mac laptop for me. We are also thinking of moving from Blackberries to iPhones. Yes we seem to be hooked! but i am unsure about the home family set up and how to replace my PC network that I run off an 8TB server.
In reading the forums I keep seeing people talk about problems they have with two apple IDs and trying to merge them. I have also heard about a family ID allowing us to share apps legally. I am really nervous of setting us up wrong and then having problems later and hence i am now looking for some advice on how to share as much as we can legally but also make usage practical and not invading each others privacy. thoughts so far:
Music - I think we are happy to share the same music and access using one ID (we currently don't buy much music from apple but have lots of CDs we share).
Photos - It would be nice to share photos - as long as my son or husband cannot accidentally delete photos of mine (which is my biggest concern). I currently load all camera photos onto my 8TB storage box as the network owner and my husband has full access to copy any photo to his laptop but can never delete the original copies by accident.
Apps - If possible i would like us to share these but they are cheap enough these days to separate if really needed. Would be good to share licence for pages etc though
cloud, contacts, facetime, email - this is what is making me consider separate IDs or learning how to have multiple users in one apple ID - I do not want to have to share synced contacts with my husband. I have near 300 contacts now through work etc and he will not want them plus i will not want his or him being able to delete mine by mistake. and then for email and facetime, well I want to give him his privacy so I do not receive his messages etc. especially now that we are considering switching to iPhones
Then last but not least, i don't know the best solution for my son. he is only 7 years old so even though I don't want to pay for things again I don't want him being able to download "just any" app from the purchased icon in Appstore. Also, is there a child friendly setting to prevent him from viewing inappropriate content on the internet?

I have one apple id on my iPad and a second apple id on my iPhone and laptop. I want to use one apple id for everything. I tried wiping my iPad and synching it with my laptop. The old apple id still remains on my iPad. I can't get rid of it. Help.
On the iPad open Settings/iCloud and delete the account using the button at the bottom. Once deleted log in using the other account. For iTunes Stores use Settings/iTunes & Apps Stores, tapp on the Apple ID at the top then sign out. Once done sign in using the other account. Once you are happy with the changes plug your iPad into your computer to update the backup.
