One apple-id for the whole family?

We're a family of 4, we've 4 pcs/notebooks, 4 iPhones and soon 2 iPads.
Which is the best way to handle 4 iTunes and all the devices with one apple-id?
Shall I activate only the 4 itunes and can we share all the music and apps?
thx

  • One Apple ID that the whole family uses it, is ther a better way to use family sharing?

My wife and I share the same apple ID on all of our apple devices (Mac-running Yosemite, Iphone 4s, Ipad), and my sons no have their own ipods and I want them to use the ID as well, but I am having trouble because I am getting txts and other messages when my sons send message to their friends.
My sons are 9 & 6 so getting them and Apple Id is not appropriate at this time (or allowed).  Is there a way that I can set up a child account under our Apple ID?

    Hi Mdbarnharts,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your family members are using the same Apple ID to share purchases, and now you're receiving messages sent and received by your kids.
You can set up and manage Apple IDs for your children through the Family Sharing feature.
You can find more information about Family Sharing and setting up an Apple ID for your kids at these resources:

  • Free wholesome fun gaming for the whole family.

If anyone is familiar with Pogo.com , Pogo has game nights now and then to get people accquainted with eachother and the games you play. I think Boggle Bash and Yahtzee Party are 2 prime examples of getting the family together. Board gaming has become so interactive online that many people are forgetting the family values of actually opening up a real board game and playing with the whole family.

i already have a DSL cable line on the second floor, so why can't i just split that line, and use one side for the computer (and the other side for the TV)?
I never heard of a DSL connection for a TV.
AFAIK DSL lines are extremely temperamental to voltage levels (that is why you must live within a certain distance of the telephone company's switch to use DSL) and simply soldering another connection wouldn't work.
...if i did decide to run an ethernet line downstairs, can i hook multiple ethernet lines up to one cable modem?
You would connect an inexpensive wired router to the cable modem. Then attach your multiple Ethernet lines to the LAN ports on the router.
So you have a cable modem in addition to your DSL?

  • Home Media experience for the whole family

I'm new to using iTunes. I just recently got an iPhone 4s and even more recently; an iPad. I live in my house with my wife and 3 children.  We all have iPhones and iPads. I think everyone already has their own Apple ID account. I have a home wifi network and a Windows 2008 server with a file share of some .mp4 video files.  I bought iHome Server (software) and I like it because is auto tags the movie files meta data, and keeps iTunes up and running on the Windows 2008 server. Right now I have my iPhone, iTunes (on the server), and iPad all using my Apple ID and I can watch movies on the iPad and iPhone with the Home Share just fine.
HOWEVER, how do I allow my wife and kids to stream movies to their Apple devices on our home network?  My understanding in that Home Sharing requires all devices to use the same Apple ID account. Can I create a new Apple ID account just for the media home share?  Is it possible to setup the iPhones and iPads to use one Apple ID account for buying apps and such from the iTunes Store, yet another Apple ID for streaming from the home share?  Will it allow all of these devices to connect? If every iPhone and iPad in my house were to connect to my media share that's 5 iPhones and 5 iPads!  If I get all of this figured out, I may even include a couple of Apple TV's!
I'm trying to create a total home entertainment experience, and I'm just looking for how to accomplish this.

  • How do I set one monitor calibration for the whole system and users?

I'm really angry because when I logged into my first default account, My settings where normal, but I logged into my alt account, the settings where all messed up (NO ONE TOUCHED MY COMPUTER, AND THE ACCOUNT HAS A STRONG PASSWORD) The white balance was that slightly blue one. So, I changed it, and logged in to the alt account again to see it was okay. I want to my main account and used screenlock, and noticed on the login screen (I logged out of the account after I saw to see this same thing) it was the light bluer white balance. So I logged in and calibrated AGAIN and it finally when back to the default on the login screen (2:2 or something and native white balance) and my preferences for my accounts (television gamma, and native white balance) I just want it system wide to be:
    -2:2 TELEVISION GAMMA
    -Native White Gamma
Or at-least the login screen, and my two accounts, and that settings to be the system wide default.

Thanks for helping me make it worse.
First off, if you want help, act like an adult. We're all just other users you're talking to, not Apple employees. Such angry behavior will only ensure that no one will respond to any questions by you in the future.
Second, there's nothing wrong with Kappy's advice. The /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ folder is accessible by all user accounts. So putting one common monitor profile there and setting it in each account is what you want to do.
What you're seeing is a known issue when switching users without restarting. I don't know if there's ever been a true solution for it.

  • One Apple ID for iTunes...dont want to share photos/contacts/calendars....now what???

We have always just had the one Apple ID for the family....sync my iPod and the kids iPod along with my iPad.  Just upgraded to iOS 5 on my iPhone 4 and hubby's iPhone 4....now our calendars have merged.  We dont mind sharing apps but dont want to deal with each other calendars or contacts.  Had to restore husbands phone once after upgrade bc iMessage was frozen on "waiting" ... how do I handle this when we all sync to same MacBook??

You'll want a separate iCloud account for each user in addition to the main Apple ID used for purchases.
Let's say you have a family of four (husband, wife, and two children). Here is what you will need:
Main Apple ID for shared purchases in Tunes (everybody will be using this)
iCloud (Apple ID) account for husband
iCloud (Apple ID) account for wife
iCloud (Apple ID) account for child 1
iCloud (Apple ID) account for child 2
Yes, you can have both an Apple ID and iCloud account setup on the same device.
On each iOS device, setup the main Apple ID account for the following services:
iCloud (Photo Stream and Backup are the only items selected here).
    Music Home Sharing
    Video Home Sharing
    Photo Stream
Additionally, on each iOS device, add a new iCloud account (Under Mail, Contacts, Calendar) that is unique to each user for the following services:
    Mail (if using @me.com)
    Contacts
    Calendars
    Reminders
    Bookmarks
    Notes
    Find My iPhone
    Messages
    Find Friends
    FaceTime
On your individual Macs (or Mac accounts), use the main Apple ID in iTunes. Then, use the unique iCloud account in/for iCloud.
Now that everbody is using separate iCloud accounts for your contacts, calendars, and other things, it will be all be kept separate.
The only thing that is now 'shared' would be iTunes content (apps and other purchases), backups via iCloud (if enabled), and Photo Stream (if enabled).

  • Freight cost condition for the whole purchase order (Header relation)

Maybe you could help me out with the following difficulty regarding freight costs for the whole purchase orders from the mass maintenance transaction MEK1 for pricing conditions.
I try to have one freight condition for the whole purchase order.
For instance, I maintained in the transaction MEK1 for the condition FRA1 the key combination vendor and purchasing organization (table 44) and entered an absolute value of X EUR.
Unfortunately this condition will not pulled as header costs in the purchase order, because I would have had defined an access sequence in the condition type, but this is not allowed for header conditions in general.
Do you have any workaround to maintain an item condition, which works like a header condition, so that I am allowed to have an access sequence and be able to maintain MEK1?
Any comments and help are very welcome.
    Many thanks in advance
    Sabrina

    Hi,
Fright and discount conditions are called supplement conditon type and  they are always matained with main condition type.
Please check PB00 condition type in m/06 transaction. You will find pricing procedure assinged as RM0002 to PB00 condtion type.
So you can maintain fra1 and other supplement condtions in main condtion only in MEk1 trasnaction.
By selecting the line item and then shift + F7 you can maintain fright or discount condtions for PB00 condition types with out having access sequence for supplement condtion types.

We have 4 iphones and an Ipad in our family. When we purchase music, I would like for the entire family to be able to use it and then back it up to Icloud. What is the best and cheapest way for this to happen.  Should we all have a different apple id or should we use the same one.

You will all need to be on the same itunes account ID.
You can however all have seperate icloud accounts aswel.

I have been reasearching how to do this on the internet, but I haven't found an easy explanation yet.  My family is going crazy over each others imessages being sent to others in the family and not being able to use FaceTime because of conflicting email addresses.  I have read that if each person gets their own iCloud account, this would work.  However, I need to know what to do after I set everyone up with their own iCloud account.  Do I make that the default email address to be contacted or can they still use their hotmail email addresses.  Any help- with easy explanation- would be much appreciated!!

We do this in my family now.  We have one account for purchases, so it is used to share music and apps (I think that is in Settings/iTunes & App Stores).  Each iDevice has this configured.
Then, each of us has our own iCloud account that is configured under Settings/iCloud.  That then allows us to have our own Mail/Contacts/Calendars/Reminders/Safari Bookmarks/Notes/Passbook/Photo Stream/Documents & Data/Find My iPhone/and Backup.  That Backup piece is pretty sweet and comes in handly if you replace your iDevice.  You can just restore from it.
So we all share the Apple Store account but we all have our own iCloud accounts to keep the rest seperate or things like you mentioned are a nightmare.
In answer to what iCloud does for you: http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/
Think of it as an internet based ("cloud") area for all of those items listed in my response.  What you need to remember is photo stream only maintans the last 1000 pictures so don't count it as a complete backup solution for your pictures.  Even though I rarely sync with a computer these days, I do still try to sync my phone with iPhoto (I have an iMac) so that I have copies of all of my pictures.  1000 may not stretch as far as it sounds.

  • I have one apple ID for my iTunes and another apple ID for everything else. if I download the new OS, can I switch my iTunes apple ID once it's all downloaded?

my family all shares one apple ID for iTunes so we can share music. but I have my own apple ID for my phone and ipad. on my phone, I can have two separate IDs, but I'm wondering if its the same for my macbook pro. If i download the new OS, it asks for my apple ID. I would like to put in my personal one so that i can get texts and such. but I would want my iTunes to be my family account. is this possible?

You can use one account with iTunes on your Mac, and different account(s) with the Mac App Store (for buying/downloads apps or OS updates for your Mac), iCloud (System Preferences > iCloud) and Messages (Messages > Preferences, or command-comma)

My family has multiple iPhones.  Can we use one Apple ID for all of our phones?

If you use the same AppleID for iMessage and iCloud though, you will all be sharing the same message account and iCloud email account.  You can use a common AppleID for purchased content, but each create your own unique AppleID for iMessage and iCloud so you each have your own private accounts for those services.

I plan to add a few more iphones to the family very soon.  What is your recommendation to manage all of our devices (iphones, itouch, apple tv) for my family?  Can I continue to function with one apple ID or is it time to take the leep into attempting to manage multi-apple ID's?

There's a few ways of managing multiple devices on a single computer (and keeping seperate content on each). The following document is worth checking through:
