One Big Clip

Is there a way to merge many clips into one big clip and keep it in the same bin. You can do thie with Edius. It's convenient when you have many clips of one subject. You have them in sequential order with timecode. It's helpful and fast in news editing.

This worked for me. I selected all the clips that I wanted to use. Right clicked and chose New Sequence From Clip. It created a new sequence with all the clips in order. I just renamed it and I'm using it as the source.

    Hi Stephen, thanx...
    Yes, we are talking about FCP X...this is the thing:
    I worked on a project a few days ago and went to share - export movie.
    Today, i opened the FCP again, to make some changes, and when i enter to the project, it shows me as one big clip.....i dont see it says compound clip....and i tried anyways pressing break appart clips...but nothing....could it be that i made it compound before exporting it..? if so how can i recover the un-compound version >?
    I tried to import the saved .mov file, but it opens the same....as one long clip...
    Pls help...thanx.

  • IMovie 08 to 09 import problem - one big clip

    I had a lot of projects in iMovie 08 and they have appeared ok in 09 but all seem to have been imported as just as one large clip instead individual clips. This means that re-editing is very difficult and defeats the object of importing iMovie 08 projects rather than completed videos. Does anyone know of a way to break the project back down into its original clips?

    YOu are in "Project Library" view. If you pick a project and click on "Edit Project", you will see the individual clips you are used to.
    The "Project Library" view is basically eye-candy so you can quickly find your projects.

  • Why no more clips and just one big .mov file?

    I had been working in iMovie and iDVD 4 for some time up until present when I upgraded to iLife 6. One of the things I like about ver. 4 was that the whole movie was saved as a file but there were also the individual clips saved as well. I could use these clips when creating my iDVD project. Now I see that those clips are gone and there's just one big .mov file to drop into my iDVD themes. Why did they do this??? Is there some benefit to this that I'm not understanding? Maybe I don't have something set correctly in the prefs.? Is there anyway around this so that I have control over what part of a movie gets dropped into my iDVD themes?
    -Daryl

    Thank you so much, Matt. That did the trick. I would've never thought of that. I was beginning to figure that the clips just had to be somewhere else that wasn't obvious to me. I couldn't believe that they would do away with that. Thanks again!

  • How to split one big master clip into many?

    Hi,
    This is probably a simple question for you pros. Thank you for reading.
    I have film that I've telecined onto a DV. However, FCP imported a one hour tape as one big master clip. Is there a way I can split this master clip into several small clips so I can organize my project?
    Does that make sense?
    Thank you in advance,
    Nik

    Since you telecined onto DV I guess there are no Date&Time gaps between scenes, so you cannot use DV Start/Stop Detect. Then the only way I can think of is to do it manually: open the clip in the viewer, select the first scene by setting its IN and OUT points, edit to the timeline, back to the viewer select the next scene setting a new pair of IN and OUT points, edit to the timeline, etc.
    If you prefer you can move each new clip to the browser, and collect them together into a bin, before editing them to the timeline.

  • Why is premiere creating one really big clip instead of many smaller ones when I am trying to create multicam source sequences

    Ok I am trying to create multicam clips from a shoot.   I have 198 clips from two to three cameras and an audio source.   I have created multicam clips in the past by simply putting them all into one bin, selecting all, right click, Create multicam source sequence, and then it processes them and creates multicam clips for me to use to edit.
    I am doing that process now to only have PP make one really big clip instead of a bunch of little ones.   Help!

    And the other thing I think of is that you opened up the multicamera sequence as a New Sequence From Clip, instead of Open in Timeline.
    That would give you one long flat sequence, but 198 panels if you opened it in your multicamera monitor

  • I have been trying to create a movie from a project that is primarily stills and one video clip.  I cannot successfully create the movie without iMovie shutting down unexpectedly.  Any ideas for the cause of the problem?

    I am getting an unexpected shut down of iMovie when I try to share a movie from a project that is made up of still pictures, one video clip and music.  Have tried to create the movie several times with different formats and continue to get the message.  When I removed all music I was able to create the movie without a problem but when I added the music back, I was unable to create the movie.  I'm using iMoive 11' version 9.0.9
    Thanks.
    Bill

    I'm no expert in iMovie, but I've found that processing memory (as well as sheer hard disk space for the project to 'turn around in') can be a big issue with constructing, editing, and distilling projects in iMovie. I've improved the success by moving 2gb of image files off to an external drive, but only really got moving again on an hour-long project by doubling RAM and again freeing up h/d space.
    Some tunes are also an issue, but if you can see it in the iTunes list to place in your project, it should work okay... Does the project run with any other piece of music, or does just that one tune mess it up?
    Good luck,
    Laura

  • CS 4 Cut one long clip in to smaller clips

    How would I cut one long clip in to many smaller clips and then put those clips back in to the bin for later
    I have a few long clips but only want peices of them

    Bill gave me advice on this about 6 months ago, as I had the same question with CS3...I imagine in this instance CS4 is the same.
    Here's what he said:
    1) leave extra room on the in out points when the big clip is in the source monitor and you are deciding on the subciip length...so if you have to adjust later you have "handles" to expand a little bit ...
    2) if you dont have to make subclips "dont" ...just drag from source monitor to timeline...using the in out points...as it makes no real difference to the original video file...its just code in the program...  however, in my case I wanted to the subclips due to learning about "scripted" stuff and 3 cameras...
    Then I discovered (tutorial)  that by choosing in out points in the source monitor and dragging that straight to the project panel it automatically creates the subclip and all you have to do is "name" it...or leave default timecode name...saved a lot of time cause I was using the mouse to choose "create subclip" etc  before I learned about that shortcut

  • Putting a game inside one big movieclip

    I'm using the script below on a movie clip that moves and
    interacts with other movie clips. the movie clip the script is
    applied to is on it's own keyframe on the timeline in the main
    scene. now, i want to put everything i just made (the movie clip
    the script is applied to and the movie clips it interacts with)
    into one big movie clip so i can easily put it on a flash based
    website. I'm pretty sure the "_root." has to be changed but I'm not
    quite sure what to change it to

    Jale3,
    You are absolutely correct. _root refers to the main timeline
    of a movie. By restructuring your timeline, many of the paths no
    longer refer to actual MovieClips. There are a few ways of fixing
    this.
    1. Using an absolute path again. If you give the "one big
    movieclip" an instance name of "big_mc", you would change all the
    _root's to _root.big_mc. However, this method is not recommended as
    it is what caused the problem in the first place.
    2. Using a relative path. Clearly, the MovieClip with the
    above code will always be on the same timeline, with the wall and
    win MovieClips as well. And so, if this clip "looks" for the others
    from its point of view, then there should never really be a problem
    where you place the game. In this case, you could replace _root
    with this._parent. "this" simply refers to the current timeline (of
    the MovieClip that the code resides on) and "_parent" refers to the
    parent timeline from the specific MovieClip.
    3. A third, lazier option would be to make all references of
    _root refer to the "big movieclip" and this can be achieved with
    one line:
    big_mc._lockroot = true;
    Despite being the easies fix, the second method is a better
    approach as there might be complications of some sort down the
    line.
    By the way, you might want to look into the onEnterFrame
    event handler as a replacement for the outdated onClipEvent.

  • How do I sync multiple audio clips to one video clip?

    I have video (with stereo audio from a camera mic), and for each take, there are also four additional mono audio tracks that line up with it. It was footage shot outdoors in the city, so I guess the filmmakers just wanted to have as many options for sound mixing as possible given how much background noise there would be. I have tried selecting the video clip and the four audio clips at once and selecting "synchronize clips," but it doesn't work. It spits out a synchronized clip that seems to have converted two of the mono tracks into one stereo track... and then disregarded the remaining two mono tracks. It's a mess. It's likely someone else will fine tune the audio once I'm done cutting the video together... but I'd like to get all the audio tracks properly synced from the start. Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Do you mean manual syncing? I've been reading this thread about workaround, which aren't working for me: http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/344/21236
    But the question they are asking is the same one I am asking. Isn't this a typical situation, having multiple mics for one camera? For example, if someone filmed a concert with one camera but used both the camera audio, and ambient mic, and a mix from the board, then that would be 3 audio tracks with 1 video track. I'm in a similar situation, and I'm finding it hard to believe that FCPX isn't equipped to edit this way. There must be some way to get one video clip (with reference audio) to sync with four audio tracks.

  • FCE capture from my Canon XHA1 captures as one long clip

    I've never had this problem capture using FCE before. I'm capturing from a Canon XHA1 and it's capturing the video as one long clip rather than the many short clips I shot. And unlike when you capture DV, you can't use the "DV start/stop Detect option" when the footage is HD..so that's not a solution.
    I'm using a new Macbook pro and was wondering if that has anything to do with it given that i"m using the newest OSX as well.
    Any ideas? It appeared to do the same thing when I captured into iMovie.
    Or or is there a setting on the camera that I've failed to change?

    Dear Phojo1,
    I also have a XHA1 and am experiencing the same problem. I was wondering if you shot your footage in HD, and what are your settings on your camera for recording and outputting. The first footage I captured I used hd with 1440x 1080 apple intermediate with 29.97 rate. I had no problem. It captured each clip separately. Now I can only capture with dv/ntsc settings. I'm am trying to see where the problem is. By the way this started happening when I upgraded to 4.01. It also does the same in imovie. Thanks for any information.

  • How do you combine two or more movie clips into one movie clip in iMovie '09

    how do you combine two or more movie clips into one movie clip in iMovie '09

    First create an iMovie project. Then drag the clips (or portions of clips) that you need into the project.
    When finished, use the SHARE menu to share the project.

  • Using colorTrans:ColorTransform on more than one movie clip

    Hi I am very new to Flash and action script so please bare with me...
    I would like to be able to change the color of more than one movie clip in the same layer in the same frame. Basically I have place two different movie clips with defined instances,i.e. body and shoulder onto the canvas in one frame on the timeline.
    I have created three different buttons (red_btn, blue_btn, and yellow_btn) to use to change the color of say the body or shoulder. I would use red and blue to change the body and say yellow and green to change the shoulders. These are also on the same layer and same frame on the timeline as the movie clips.
    The problem I am having is how would I declare the two movies or variables to change independantly? Would I need to place one movie clip on one layer and then place the other on a different layer so that when I press the button I want i.e. the red button, it only changes the body and not the shoulders.
    Here is my actionscript that I am using to change the color of the clip(s)
    import flash.geom.ColorTransform;
    import flash.geom.Transform;
    var colorTrans:ColorTransform = new ColorTransform();
    var trans:Transform = new Transform(body);
    trans.colorTransform = colorTrans;
    blue_btn.onRelease = function() {
        colorTrans.rgb = 0x0000FF; // blue
        trans.colorTransform = colorTrans;
    red_btn.onRelease = function() {
        colorTrans.rgb = 0xFF0000; // blue
        trans.colorTransform = colorTrans;
    yellow_btn.onRelease = function () {
    colorTrans.rgb = 0xFFFF00; //yellow
    trans.colorTransform = colorTrans;
    body here is my declared variable wich is the body of a shirt that is one movie clip. When you place both clips on the timeline ontop of each other, you basically get a shirt with different color shoulders and body.
    I need some help to know if this is possible first of all, and then what would be the best way to delcare the variables in one actionsript.
    Thanks and I am sorry, I just never learned much when it came to flash. Thanks for any patience and help anyone is willing to give me.

    every movieclip has a transform.colorTransform property that you can use to assign a color transform (with any rgb property).  so, for example:
    import flash.geom.ColorTransform;
    import flash.geom.Transform;
    var colorTrans:ColorTransform = new ColorTransform();
    bluebody_btn.onRelease = function() {
        colorTrans.rgb = 0x0000FF; // blue
      yourbodymovieclip.tranform.colorTransform=colorTrans;
    blueshoulders_btn.onRelease = function() {
        colorTrans.rgb = 0xFF0000; // blue
    yourshouldersmovieclip.transform.colorTransform = colorTrans;
    yellowbody_btn.onRelease = function () {
    colorTrans.rgb = 0xFFFF00; //yellow
    yourbodymovieclip= colorTrans;
    etc

  • Importing tape into Imovie 11. How do I import all the clips as one long clip?

    How do I import all the clips as one long clip? I have 45 min of footage and I want it as one long take I can edit in Final Cut ProX. When I import, all the clips are split up when the scene cuts. I just want the 45 min in one long video.

    iMovie will import the tape as if it is direct from the camera. It will sense the scene breaks and put all the clips in chronological order.
    If you want to import it as one long clip, I suggest you load the tape into the app that you edited the tape with. Then export it out as a QuickTime movie in the DV codec. You can import this MOV file into FCPX or iMovie.
