One computer and two different ipods...

Hello,
Currently, I have a Macbook Pro and an eighty gig ipod. My girlfriend has a 30 gig ipod as well. Our plan is to share a computer and have different media on our ipods. We like the same music but she wants to have pictures on her ipod and I do not.
Is it possible to have two ipods synced onto one computer where the eighty gig ipod is strictly music and the thirty gig is a combination of music and pictures? Will this be overly complicated or an easy thing to do?
Thanks a lot,
Jonathan

there are basically two ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
a) Sharing a single iTunes library and or user account or
b) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish):
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Mac
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library:
Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists

  • Can i load two different itunes on the same computer for two different ipods?

Can I load two different itunes on my computer for two different ipods?  Or how can I get it so that when I click on itunes, only my songs come up and not my wifes?  And the same for her.

Yes.  The simplest way is to have separate Windows accounts for each user.  When either user runs iTunes, he/she will have a separate library with distinct content, playlists, etc., and can sync individual iDevices as needed.

  • Can two user accounts of one computer use two different Mac ID accounts?  I'd like to keep separate accounts for movies, music etc.

I have a Mac Air running 10.8.5, with two users on it.  I'd like to keep separate Apple store accounts accounts for the two users, as we have separate music, movies, books etc.  To date, we've had separate computers, but now will share the one computer.  But when the second account is signed in and we try to sign in to the I-tunes store, or authorise the computer with the second account, the response is "the I-Tunes store is not available" or "we cannot fulfil your request at this time".  Togetherness is nice, but I'd prefer to have some privacy.

    Hi Harrike2000,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’re running into an iTunes Store connection issue in one of the user accounts on your MacBook Air, and you want to know if the issue is related to using multiple Apple IDs or user accounts.
You can use multiple user accounts and Apple IDs with one computer, see this article for more information:

For the issue connecting to the iTunes Store, try the suggestions in the article linked below.

    Troubleshoot issues on a Mac
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store, a software conflict or your Internet service provider (ISP) may be blocking your access.
Update iTunes and Safari to the latest version.
If you have a firewall, your settings may be preventing you from connecting to the iTunes Store. Follow these steps to configure your firewall.
You may need to reset your keychain. Connection issues are occasionally caused by keychain issues. Learn how to use Keychain First Aid to resolve any issues with your keychain.
If you're receiving a specific error message, follow these steps.
If the issue still persists, contact your Internet service provider and confirm that these ports and servers are enabled over your network.

If the steps above didn't resolve your issue, be sure that your specific alert isn't listed as a possible iTunes Store error. Then, if your issue is still unresolved, follow these steps.

  • We have one computer and two apple id's- how do I sync two phones to the same computer?

My family has one laptop computer but we have two different iPhones and itunes accounts.  I want to be able to plug my iPhone into the computer and sync pictures and music with my account.  My husband has his own iTunes account and he needs to be able to sync his phone to this laptop as well.  Is there a way that we can both sync to the same computer?  I need to move some pictures off the phone so that I can update it.

The best way to handle it is to create separate user accounts on the computer for each user. Then make sure that you and your husband log into the computer with the appropriate account. Each of you will have a unique iTunes library, contacts, etc.

  • We have one computer and two users. How do we get itunes to keep our apps separate for our iphones 3gs?

I'm new to iphones and Apple in general. I'm not tech savvy at all. My husband and I just got the iphone 3gs (separate phones). Itunes wants to put the same apps on both phones (one computer). Can we stop this? We don't want the same apps on our phones. Thanks.

Instead of syncing all apps just select the ones you want on your device. I am assuming your using the same apple ID. Just plug in phone select it from the left side of itunes then select the apps tab and uncheck the apps you dont want. Itunes will remember settings for each device.

  • CR 4 Ent, Xcelsius and WebI - one query and two different results

    Dear Sirs,
I'm using BO 4.0 platform and 3 tools: Crystal Reports for Enterprise, WebI and Dashboard Design (Xcelsius).
I have one question, because in my opinion in this solution is one inconsistency.
I have one table in SQL Server (like below):
    IDRec (autoinc)  | Col1 (varchar)   | Col2 (int)
    1      A    1
    2      A    1
    3      B    2
    4      B    2
I have one universe with ONLY 3 dimensions (IDRec, Col1, Col2). I haven't any measures.
    And:
    1. Using CR 4 Ent and I create report using 3 dimensions (IDRec, Col1, Col2).
I make sure, that I selected option: "Retrieve duplicate rows"
If I have 3 columns in details I have 4 records (4 rows) in my report, when I have 2 columns (Col1 Col2) I have only 2 records (2 rows) in report (Page view).
So universe (or something like this) use option DISTICT (I think).
    2. When I use WebI (14.0.2) I have the same situation.
    3. When I use Dashboard Desigm (Xcelsius 2011) I have 4 rows !!!  ALWAYS - it doesn't matter I selected "Retrieve duplicate rows" or not  !!!
When I look to "View script" window, I not see DISTINCT clause.
    Am I doing something wrong?
I can change the settings so as to be able to see duplicate records?
It's very important for some calculation, especially in Crystal Reports (for Enterprise).

    Hi,
Thanks for the response...But the result is deviating from the expected..
           expected is
if we have first query returns              second query returns
                  1                                                     4
                  2                                                     5
                  3                                                     6
these two queries result should be in one table , with first query result in first column and second query result in second column.
The two queries fetching data from same table(category table as in my post) with different search criteria( in where clause).......Regards,
    Rakesh.

  • One AppleID and two different iPhones.

    Hello dudes!!!
First - sorry for my English - my teacher all the time was stoned, so I used to speak English very bad. )
Second - the problem itself. Me and my wife got an iPhones. My iPhone 4s 16Gb and iPhone 5s 16 Gb for my wife. Both iPhones are updated to the latest iOS 8.1 or a sort of. And my wife also has an iPad 2 64 Gb. So right now You should be asked - what's the problem, dude? Everything is perfect!
No guys! Nothing is perfect. With the latest update all of our iPhones and an iPad are ringing when somebody called with no matter who calls and on which Phone the call was made. We are in one wireless network with one AppleID - so it's like a feature from new iOS, but for me is a real bug! Can U imagine my lover called me and my wife answered! That's fail!
So the question is - how can I disable this "feature"?
Help me guys!!! Please my wife will kill me soon!!!
    And Thank You!

the appleID is your identity in the world of apple
if shared by default one get the same iMessages, one can't use FaceTime between the devices, one can't use find my friends between the devices
use family sharing if you use ios8 it helps to solve the issue with not paying for the apps more then once which make many people use the same appleID

  • Sharing music from one library to two different iPods

I have an itunes account with a large music library that I use with my own ipod.  My daughter is getting her own iPod soon. Can I share my library on her device?

Yes. The process isn't any more complicated than setting up the first iPod with your computer.

  • One computer, two different ipods, one shared library?

Is there a way to setup two different ipods on one computer. I currently have my ipod library setup on an external drive. I setup a separate user profile for my husband. I pointed the library to my external drive, but no music files show up on his account. I also tried setting up home sharing....don't see library files under home sharing.....help please!

*How to use multiple iPods with one computer*
The Apple support document How to use multiple iPods with one computer suggests a number of ways. I use method two (Sync with selected playlists) with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which users should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
    e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
    etc.
I currently manage our family's five iPods using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their iPod. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.

  • I am trying to store music for two different iPods on the same computer, against two different Apple IDs. When I try and download content from the Cloud I get an error message?

I am trying to store music for two different iPods on the same Windows 8 computer, and when I try and download content from the Cloud I get an error message. Is it possible to have two different Apple IDs on the same computer?

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value).  You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads
Content imported from your CDs will have to imported again
The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these).  Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above.  As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library.
