One computer two users = how many authorizations does it need

Hello,
I am authorized for iTunes purchased music as an administrative user on my Powerbook
My wife has a user account on the same machine
Does it count for 2 authorized computers ?
If not, how do I allow her as a user of the same computer to listen to purchased music in my administrative account?
(note songs are on the Shared user so we both have acccess

You only need to authorize a machine once.
how do I allow her as a user of the same computer to listen to purchased music in my administrative account?

She simply runs iTunes and plays the songs.
What is/isn't happening?

  • One Computer, Two Users, Shared Library?

I have searched around and haven't been able to find a direct answer to this...
My wife and I have different user profiles. I use aperture for all our photo management. She just wants to have access to the library to make slideshows and DVD's (from her user profile).
Can we set it up so that both users can have access to one, central, aperture library?
    If so, how?
    If no, why?
    Thanks for any help.

    WE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.
ONE IMAC TWO USER ACCOUNTS WELL 4 IF YOU COUNT THE KIDS. THAT'S WHY WE NEED TO LIMIT ACCESS.
I'VE BEEN USING APERTURE UNDER MY USER PROFILE. I THEN SET UP APERTURE IN MY WIFES DOCK. SEEMED TO WORK AT FIRST, THEN PREVIEWS WOULD NOT OPEN GRAYED AND RED ? MARKS. THEN IT STARTED TO OPEN PREVIEWS AT A SNAILS PACE. WHEN I WENT BACK TO MY USER ACCOUNT THE FOLDERS AND PROJECTS HAD ALL BEEN CHANGED.
WE WANT THE LIBRARY TO BE THE SAME FOR BOTH OF US, SO WE CAN BOTH WORK ON IT A DIFFERENT TIMES FROM OUR OWN USER ACCOUNT. ONE COMPUTER ONE LIBRARY ONE USER AT ONE TIME. I DON'T WANT TO HAVE ANOTHER HARD DISK AT THIS TIME. WE HAVE A 500GIG AND THAT'S BIG ENOUGH TO DO WHAT WE WANT .
I THOUGHT OF SETTING UP AN ADDITIONAL USER CALLED APERTURE4 BUT THAT'S NOT HOW WE WANT TO USE OUR PHOTO'S. I THINK IPHOTO WAS ACTUALY WORKING BETTER. WE ARE USING VERSION 1.5.2
I GUESS THE OTHER BIG QUESTION IS HOW SHOULD WE SET THIS UP. WE ALREADY HAVE OVER 1100 PHOTOS AND IT'S BEEN ONE WEEK
    THANKS , MARK

  • One computer two users simultaneously?

Hi, I'll try to explain what i would find very usefull feature hopefully i can pull it out nicely and clear enougth. Also i am not programmer/coder so i do not know if the idea is possible at all.
So basic idea is to have only one computer and two users, doing their own tasks at
    same time.
There would be two keyboards two monitors and two mouse all plugged to one mainboard, except monitor which would go to gfx card. When computer is powered on, both monitor would have their own login screen and the users could at any time they want login and start using the computer.
Now i thougth this is simple concept so i searched net all-over and under and found only few ideas bit close to this, and some places that would sell special equipment (very expensive) to do this, Mainly breaking the whole idea.
I'm already using seperate X's screens for my crt&tv-out configuration, i think that already is quite good. But i would like to make it one step futher, so i could basicly use the seperate screen totally as its own work unit, without it intefere at all to my crt screen.
The computers nowdays are quite powerfull this kind of tasks that two users would do something simple like surfing web doing some office stuff etc, should not require too much cpu power? Playing something like DOOM3 on both same time. would probably not work that   smoothly.
I can think many good uses to that/this kind of system so i wont do pro's con's list.
Does anyone know if there already is this kind of system with easy method to do and not needing to use extra money if i already have all the hardware needed? Or is this
just simple impossible due hardware limitations?

    Hey,
I believe it's possible. I've read about it a while ago I believe. You need to patch your Xserver I think. A good thing would to ask a question on the Xorg-list on this if you use Xorg, Xfree86, ... There is an irc-channel for xorg I believe.
I would first advice you to do the above thing(s) ...
    Maybe I found a reference ...
Here is an extract from it:
There is a HOWTO at tldp.org. Look for XFree local multi-user.
The ruby (backstreet ruby for 2.4.x kernels) kernel patch allows interception of events from multiple keyboards to be bound to specific virtual terminals. The latest XFree and Xorg Xservers are now including this ability with the isolateDevice config file option. Older X servers need to be additionally patched. Basically, you craft an X config file to bind specific mice, graphics cards and monitors to their own screen layouts. Of course there is more to it than this. One accepted method is to alter the hotplug subsystem to automatically create your added devices, then you supply symlinks and binding instructions to the device addresses with config files. Keyboards are another matter. They are handled through the ruby patch. Using a 2.6.x kernel, the controlling terminal is assigned the use of virtual terminals 1-17. The next x screen is number 18, etc. The second keyboard, VT1, is automatically bound to the second x screen, VT18. This is of course oversimplified, and yes I've read that this method should work with up to 16 layouts!
What the multiseat package does I don't know. I will try it out this weekend. As far I have researched, it makes it easier to find and configure the several config files you need. If some one knows, please post.

  • One Computer, Two Users, One Address Book

This question came up in the dim and distant past without a solution and I was wondering if there was one to it in the here and now.
My wife and I share 1 MacBookPro
We each have a user account.
I have a full .Mac account
She has a .Mac Email Account
We would like to have only one address book or at least have the same info in each of our respective address books. (not too big a request?)
I just can't find out how to do this other than her having a full .Mac account too which is just plain expensive overkill just to sync two address books!
Is there a way to do this please?
    MBP 17", 800Mhz G4 Quicksilver (server)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

It can certainly be done. If you are sharing one computer, then with the right permissions and linking, you can use the same address book.
All the Address Book information is in a folder Library/Application Support/AddressBook in a user's home directory.
If you make an alias of all the files in that folder from your directory and put them in the same folder in your wife's home directory, and then ensure that both you and your wife have access to read and write all of those files, it should work.
As a result when either of you is using Address Book, you would be using the same files and the same data. Each will see the updates of the other.
If the permissions are not right, AddressBook will hang, and you have to force quit, but otherwise, it seems to work OK.
HAL 9000     As with anything, be sure you have a good backup.

  • One Mac - two users / how to sync addres/to dos/music

My husband and I share the same computer with different users, so each of us have our address, to do list, and mail; but we share the same music library. How we can sync each iPod touch without messing our contacts, to dos, etc.
What we do now is that using his user we sync both iPod, but I can not sync the music using my user id; regardless of sharing the music library.

I'm assuming from your post that you each have an ipod touch, that you want to sync everything seperately except for the music library which you want to be the same? This gets kind of technical, and you've got the potential to screw things up a bit.
First off copy the entire itunes folder (not just the itunes music folder) that has all your music in it from accountname/music/ to (nameofharddrive)/users/shared. Next select the itunes folder you just copied and do a command - i on the folder to bring up a get info window. At the bottom of that window will be a pane for setting permissions. You may have to authenticate by clicking the lock icon at the bottom and entering in your computer username and password before you can make any changes. In the permissions pane click on the plus sign at the bottom and select the name of the second user that you want to be able to access the music from the list on right. Back in the permissions pane change the permissions for the second user to read & write. Both users should now be listed with read & write access. close the get info window. Start itunes on the first account while holding down the option key. When asked to select a existing library, navigate to the new itunes folder in the shared folder - not the one in your user account. Itunes should be set on this account now. You can plug in and set your sync preferences for the first ipod here now. You must quit itunes in the first account before you can use it in the second account using this method. Quit itunes, then logout or switch user accounts to the second account. Start itunes holding down the option key again, and select the itunes folder you created in the shared location. Plug in and set the sync preferences for the second ipod to be associated with this account. From now on itunes should be started normally without needing to hold down option or anything of the sort. I haven't fully tested this method out myself, but it should work. Just remember that you need to shut down itunes in the first account before you can open it in the second.

  • One computer, two users, two libraries?

On a single computer is it possible to have two users with separate iTunes music libraries? I have established a second account but it continues to pull up the library on the computer. THANKS!

You do not need two accounts to have two libraries
Just hold down the shift key when you open iTunes (*DO NOT LET GO* of shift until a window that says "Choose iTunes library" comes up)
When you get that window just click on Create Library, this will create a new library additional to the one you already have
Now each time you open iTunes if you want to switch between libraries just hold shift key when you open iTunes and click on Choose Library to select the library you want to show up in iTunes

  • One computer - two users

Okay, so I had to log into Windows as a second user due to an "upgrade" by another program I run (these things always come in bunches!).
The Problem: Although my shortcut points to the same .exe file for iTunes, it seems to run as an indpendant program compared to the "Owner" user I sign in as. As a result, I can't add/change/delete music from my iPod via iTunes.
How do I configure/coordinate my iTunes to iPod regardless of user login?
    Thanks in advance!

  • One computer, two user accounts, two libraries - how to share??

My husband and I each have an account on our Dell computer. We each have an iTunes library and would like to have the two libraries shared with each other. We've put them in the shared documents, shared music folder. We also set our preferences in each of our iTunes accounts the location of the library. My library updated to the shared account, but without any of the music purchased from his account. His library shows no music at all - it won't update to the shared file. When we open the shared music folder - all the music is there. It just doesn't come through to iTunes. Help!!!

    Hi Lou18,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions
If you have used iChat to enter two .mac account screen names then you have to view it as one iChat. Whichever settings one of you sets then that will be the settings the other sees.
However if you mean you have set up two Mac User Accounts on the Mac you will need to check that she is actually opening her Mac user account and has not added her .mac details to your iChat.
There is a possibility that you are talking about Family Accounts or a email Alias for one .mac account in which case one of you will need to use a different screen name for iChat.
Now this new Name can be AIM or a trial .mac.com name as these will work after the 60 days is up. It is the Linked .mac accounts that do not work for iChat.

  • One Computer, Two Accounts - How Best to Proceed with MacOS 10.8.2?

My wife and I want to share our new iMac, and I'd like some advice on how best to do this without messing things up.
We both have iOS devices to sync, and we both are using the same iTunes Store Account. However, we each have our own iCloud account. We each have our own email accounts, Hotmail accounts, and Yahoo accounts. We each have our own account for the iMac, which I assume you would need if you wanted to maintain two different sets of Mail accounts and two different Facetime "accounts," what to speak of different desktop customization options.
Things we would like to share without duplicating files include: iPhoto library (~100 GB), iTunes media files (over 300 GB), Contacts list, (maybe) Calendar, and (maybe) Safari bookmarks. We do NOT want to share e-mail, Reminders, Facetime. Ideally, I would like for her to be able to sync her devices entirely through her iMac account. However, I am not opposed to her syncing her iOS devices through my account for some things and through her account for other things, if that is not easily avoidable.
Regarding the iTunes library, I could go either way on her having separate library files with separate ratings & playlists or just sharing the same library setup that I have. However, I would want her to have access to the same metadata that I have for all music and video files, since I have lots of custom album art as well as lyrics loaded in. Do we have to use the same library file in order to have access to the same metadata, which will be updated on a regular basis?  If so, then is there a way to do that via two different computer accounts, or does she pretty much have to sync with my account?
Now regarding iPhoto libraries, I wouldn't mind us sharing the same "library" as well as the files, including ratings and albums. I would like for the "faces" setup to be the same for both of us, if possible, so that she does not have to repeat the process of face tagging. I read in an older article that sharing the iPhoto library could be accomplished by sending the iPhoto library file to an external hard drive, but as that seemed to be an older approach, I thought I would ask here if that is still the ideal approach. I might want to send the iPhoto library file to an external HD anyway for space considerations. But if I do this, and we are both using the same library file for viewing photos, then does she still see the same albums, events, and tags that I have created already?
Is there a way to share contacts and calendars without having to share other things like Notes and Reminders? I suppose I could have her sync this information via my account, but I'd be greatful to learn of a better way if there is one.

You can share out both the iTunes library and the iPhoto Library in their respective preferences. However, the sharing account must have both iTunes and iPhoto running. You can keep the account running with those things open in the background using Fast User Switching. Enable that in the Users & Groups system prefs and then never log out, just switch to the login screen or the other account using the Fast User switching menu.
I haven't done much actual use in either, so I don't know what the limits are (like making a playlist out of the shared tracks, syncing with iPhone/iPod, etc). For iPhoto, all the photos are available, but if you want to edit one, you have to import a copy into your own library. Another option might be to not keep the media inside the Library, but store it in the /Users/Shared folder. Then, set up your Libraries to leave the content where it is (Preferences). However, I don't think you'd get the metadata for the iTunes music. I believe that is all stored within the iTunes Library.
You can share iCloud calendars so the other person can see your calendar by right-clicking on the Calendar name. There will be an option to share the calendar, there. Also, you can do so from the iCloud web interface.
I've got nothing on sharing contacts. Not sure of a good way to do that besides maintaining two sets. You can start from the same source, but it will diverge over time as contacts are added and removed individually.

  • One computer, two users - share iCal

Can someone please tell me how my husband, who has a separate user account on my iMac, can view iCal which I administer from my account. I would like him to be able to see it from the desktop, and sync it to his Touch. I might add that I cannot see my iCal account in either account pane when I go to either his or my own Preferences in iCal. Thanks!

As mentioned by the previous person, I am in love with the offerings from BusyMac -- either BusyCal or BusySync would do the trick for you.
Alternatively, you can purchase an annual MobileMe subscription from Apple, and share that 1 MobileMe subscription between the 2 of you guys, and use that MobileMe subscription for syncing of your calendars. It doesn't give you as much flexibility as the BusyMac solutions (because it's an all-or-nothing syncing proposition), and it's SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive (because you're paying annually forever), but it's easier to setup.

can any one please tell me how many domains does V440 & V880 have and do they contain any partitions ....if so how many domains present in each partition.....The answer is one domain and no partitions. The V440's and V880 don't support any HW domaining/partitioning because there's not enough hardware in them to support splitting it. Those features were restricted to the Medium-High End systems such as the E2800-E6900, SF12K-SF25K, all M-Series, and T-Series (LDOMS).

    Hi,
You can use one serwer only for everything (provided that you use classic application).
Number of servers depends on the number of planned applications, the number of users, number of entities, number of accounts, the amount of calculation...
