One computer, two users - share iCal

Can someone please tell me how my husband, who has a separate user account on my iMac, can view iCal which I administer from my account. I would like him to be able to see it from the desktop, and sync it to his Touch. I might add that I cannot see my iCal account in either account pane when I go to either his or my own Preferences in iCal. Thanks!

As mentioned by the previous person, I am in love with the offerings from BusyMac -- either BusyCal or BusySync would do the trick for you.
Alternatively, you can purchase an annual MobileMe subscription from Apple, and share that 1 MobileMe subscription between the 2 of you guys, and use that MobileMe subscription for syncing of your calendars. It doesn't give you as much flexibility as the BusyMac solutions (because it's an all-or-nothing syncing proposition), and it's SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive (because you're paying annually forever), but it's easier to setup.

  • One Computer, Two Users, Shared Library?

I have searched around and haven't been able to find a direct answer to this...
My wife and I have different user profiles. I use aperture for all our photo management. She just wants to have access to the library to make slideshows and DVD's (from her user profile).
Can we set it up so that both users can have access to one, central, aperture library?
    If so, how?
    If no, why?
    Thanks for any help.

    WE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.
ONE IMAC TWO USER ACCOUNTS WELL 4 IF YOU COUNT THE KIDS. THAT'S WHY WE NEED TO LIMIT ACCESS.
I'VE BEEN USING APERTURE UNDER MY USER PROFILE. I THEN SET UP APERTURE IN MY WIFES DOCK. SEEMED TO WORK AT FIRST, THEN PREVIEWS WOULD NOT OPEN GRAYED AND RED ? MARKS. THEN IT STARTED TO OPEN PREVIEWS AT A SNAILS PACE. WHEN I WENT BACK TO MY USER ACCOUNT THE FOLDERS AND PROJECTS HAD ALL BEEN CHANGED.
WE WANT THE LIBRARY TO BE THE SAME FOR BOTH OF US, SO WE CAN BOTH WORK ON IT A DIFFERENT TIMES FROM OUR OWN USER ACCOUNT. ONE COMPUTER ONE LIBRARY ONE USER AT ONE TIME. I DON'T WANT TO HAVE ANOTHER HARD DISK AT THIS TIME. WE HAVE A 500GIG AND THAT'S BIG ENOUGH TO DO WHAT WE WANT .
I THOUGHT OF SETTING UP AN ADDITIONAL USER CALLED APERTURE4 BUT THAT'S NOT HOW WE WANT TO USE OUR PHOTO'S. I THINK IPHOTO WAS ACTUALY WORKING BETTER. WE ARE USING VERSION 1.5.2
I GUESS THE OTHER BIG QUESTION IS HOW SHOULD WE SET THIS UP. WE ALREADY HAVE OVER 1100 PHOTOS AND IT'S BEEN ONE WEEK
    THANKS , MARK

  • One Computer, Two Users, One Address Book

This question came up in the dim and distant past without a solution and I was wondering if there was one to it in the here and now.
My wife and I share 1 MacBookPro
We each have a user account.
I have a full .Mac account
She has a .Mac Email Account
We would like to have only one address book or at least have the same info in each of our respective address books. (not too big a request?)
I just can't find out how to do this other than her having a full .Mac account too which is just plain expensive overkill just to sync two address books!
Is there a way to do this please?

It can certainly be done. If you are sharing one computer, then with the right permissions and linking, you can use the same address book.
All the Address Book information is in a folder Library/Application Support/AddressBook in a user's home directory.
If you make an alias of all the files in that folder from your directory and put them in the same folder in your wife's home directory, and then ensure that both you and your wife have access to read and write all of those files, it should work.
As a result when either of you is using Address Book, you would be using the same files and the same data. Each will see the updates of the other.
If the permissions are not right, AddressBook will hang, and you have to force quit, but otherwise, it seems to work OK.

  • One computer two users simultaneously?

Hi, I'll try to explain what i would find very usefull feature hopefully i can pull it out nicely and clear enougth. Also i am not programmer/coder so i do not know if the idea is possible at all.
So basic idea is to have only one computer and two users, doing their own tasks at
    same time.
There would be two keyboards two monitors and two mouse all plugged to one mainboard, except monitor which would go to gfx card. When computer is powered on, both monitor would have their own login screen and the users could at any time they want login and start using the computer.
Now i thougth this is simple concept so i searched net all-over and under and found only few ideas bit close to this, and some places that would sell special equipment (very expensive) to do this, Mainly breaking the whole idea.
I'm already using seperate X's screens for my crt&tv-out configuration, i think that already is quite good. But i would like to make it one step futher, so i could basicly use the seperate screen totally as its own work unit, without it intefere at all to my crt screen.
The computers nowdays are quite powerfull this kind of tasks that two users would do something simple like surfing web doing some office stuff etc, should not require too much cpu power? Playing something like DOOM3 on both same time. would probably not work that   smoothly.
I can think many good uses to that/this kind of system so i wont do pro's con's list.
Does anyone know if there already is this kind of system with easy method to do and not needing to use extra money if i already have all the hardware needed? Or is this
just simple impossible due hardware limitations?

    Hey,
I believe it's possible. I've read about it a while ago I believe. You need to patch your Xserver I think. A good thing would to ask a question on the Xorg-list on this if you use Xorg, Xfree86, ... There is an irc-channel for xorg I believe.
I would first advice you to do the above thing(s) ...
    Maybe I found a reference ...
Here is an extract from it:
There is a HOWTO at tldp.org. Look for XFree local multi-user.
The ruby (backstreet ruby for 2.4.x kernels) kernel patch allows interception of events from multiple keyboards to be bound to specific virtual terminals. The latest XFree and Xorg Xservers are now including this ability with the isolateDevice config file option. Older X servers need to be additionally patched. Basically, you craft an X config file to bind specific mice, graphics cards and monitors to their own screen layouts. Of course there is more to it than this. One accepted method is to alter the hotplug subsystem to automatically create your added devices, then you supply symlinks and binding instructions to the device addresses with config files. Keyboards are another matter. They are handled through the ruby patch. Using a 2.6.x kernel, the controlling terminal is assigned the use of virtual terminals 1-17. The next x screen is number 18, etc. The second keyboard, VT1, is automatically bound to the second x screen, VT18. This is of course oversimplified, and yes I've read that this method should work with up to 16 layouts!
What the multiseat package does I don't know. I will try it out this weekend. As far I have researched, it makes it easier to find and configure the several config files you need. If some one knows, please post.

  • One computer, two users, two libraries?

On a single computer is it possible to have two users with separate iTunes music libraries? I have established a second account but it continues to pull up the library on the computer. THANKS!

You do not need two accounts to have two libraries
Just hold down the shift key when you open iTunes (*DO NOT LET GO* of shift until a window that says "Choose iTunes library" comes up)
When you get that window just click on Create Library, this will create a new library additional to the one you already have
Now each time you open iTunes if you want to switch between libraries just hold shift key when you open iTunes and click on Choose Library to select the library you want to show up in iTunes

  • One computer - two users

Okay, so I had to log into Windows as a second user due to an "upgrade" by another program I run (these things always come in bunches!).
The Problem: Although my shortcut points to the same .exe file for iTunes, it seems to run as an indpendant program compared to the "Owner" user I sign in as. As a result, I can't add/change/delete music from my iPod via iTunes.
How do I configure/coordinate my iTunes to iPod regardless of user login?
    Thanks in advance!

  • One computer, two user accounts, two libraries - how to share??

My husband and I each have an account on our Dell computer. We each have an iTunes library and would like to have the two libraries shared with each other. We've put them in the shared documents, shared music folder. We also set our preferences in each of our iTunes accounts the location of the library. My library updated to the shared account, but without any of the music purchased from his account. His library shows no music at all - it won't update to the shared file. When we open the shared music folder - all the music is there. It just doesn't come through to iTunes. Help!!!

    Hi Lou18,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions
If you have used iChat to enter two .mac account screen names then you have to view it as one iChat. Whichever settings one of you sets then that will be the settings the other sees.
However if you mean you have set up two Mac User Accounts on the Mac you will need to check that she is actually opening her Mac user account and has not added her .mac details to your iChat.
There is a possibility that you are talking about Family Accounts or a email Alias for one .mac account in which case one of you will need to use a different screen name for iChat.
Now this new Name can be AIM or a trial .mac.com name as these will work after the 60 days is up. It is the Linked .mac accounts that do not work for iChat.

  • Letting two users share one synced iCal Calendar

    Hi all,
I'm looking for a way to share a single iCal calendar between two users, giving both users the ability to make changes to the calendar. Is this possible with Apple's iCal?
As an example, say I'd like to create a calendar for a trip itnerary. I'm in New York and my host ("Sara") is in San Francisco. I open my iCal, select the "Itinerary" calendar and enter a few events into it. Then, Sara opens her iCal and it automatically loads the "Itinerary" calendar, showing the events I've entered. Knowing San Francisco better than I do, she decides to alter my "Explore Chinatown" entry by extending the hours. The next time I open my iCal, I see the changes Sara made in the "Itinerary" calendar.
I'm sure this has probably been asked before, but even though I searched for it I couldn't find information answering this question. If you can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance!

      Mac OS X (10.4.3)   iCal Version 2.0.3

If I understand .Mac's services correctly, it
features the ability to let users subscribe to a
calendar, that is read another person's published
calendar, but NOT to make changes on that calendar
and then send these changes back to the publisher,
transparently. Unless I'm mistaken in this regard,
.Mac does not provide a means to let two users share
a single iCal calendar which they can BOTH make
changes to and BOTH keep synced with the other user's
    calendar.
    yes it does!!!!!!!!
simply log into the single .mac account from any number of computers and use isync. We do this every day between our office & home computers. The calenders in ical are idendical on both. Any alteration can be synced to .mac and the other computer will pick up the change next time it is synced. If there is a conflict, isync will ask which version (either .mac or the computer being synced) to use.
I think that you are confusing publishing calenders and syncing them
However, even if that can be done with .Mac (and if
it can, I'd love to learn how), I require a solution
that doesn't utilitze .Mac because in my particular
situation, the other user with whom I want to share
calendars does not have a .Mac subscription and will
not be able to get one.
The other user does not need a .mac account. The whole point is that they are syncing to the one (ie your) account.
    Therefore, I need a solution
that does not rely on .Mac.
Wrong. It would seem that .mac would work.
The only problem is that all the calenders in ical will sync.

  • Two users, one computer, can we share?

Hello and thanks for any help. We got a new computer for Christmas that has two user "accounts" on it. My husband loaded iTunes into "his" side with no problem. I have iTunes, but can't get any of the music to show up on it, even though the computer shows that the files are being shared between the two users. I can add music to it with no issue, but can't access what was already in the library. It seems silly to load all the music in twice, but I will if I have no other option. Any ideas? Thanks.

    1 Quit iTunes.
2 Drag your entire iTunes folder from /My Documents/My Music/ to a Shared directory.
    3 Log out.
1 Log in on your other account(s).
2 Start iTunes and immediately press an hold the Shift key.
3 iTunes will ask to Create new library or Choose existing library. Select Choose existing library.
4 Select the iTunes library file in the iTunes folder in /Users/Shared.
5 Now go to File -> Add Folder to library and select the iTunes music folder located in /My Documents/My Music/iTunes.
6 - iTunes will add all the music in from this account to the main iTunes music folder/library.
    7 Delete the iTunes folder in /My Documents/My Music/.
8 Restart iTunes normally (don't hold Shift). Everything should be there.
9 Quit iTunes and log out of the account.
10 Do the above steps for all users. Don't do the first 1-3 steps. Start at the second series.
Log into your account, start iTunes normally and all music should be there.
Whenever any of you do anything in iTunes, it will be seen by all since you are using one and the same iTunes library file.
Create a "main" playlist for each user with their own music. Create a smart playlist and set it to Playlist is not the playlist you created above. Select this and it will show you everything NOT in your playlist. Do the same for the others. This will help when adding only the music you want your own playlist.
Note that iTunes can only be opened by one user at a time.

  • Two users share one Apple ID, on two phones. can they be separated without losing phone backups? IE creating a new ID for one of the users?

my in-laws share one apple id for two separate iPhones. They would like to create a new ID for one of the users but maintain his current backup. can this be done?

If you want to create a new account make sure you sign out of everything via the settings. (ICloud, iTunes, facetime, messages, etc) APPS: since the apps were downloaded with a different apple ID, you will always need to use the password for the apple ID that downloaded that particular APP when it needs to be updated. Unless it is free, you can simply delete it and download it under the new apple ID. As for the music, you can keep it on the IOS device,  but if it's accidentally deleted, you'd have to sign back into the original account and download from the cloud. (But, you risk getting the 90 day lockout. )

  • I have one Mac, two users.  I wish to share a iBook with my wife, the other user.  I move a copy of the book folder to "public" folder, and in her account "added to library".  Does not show even though cue claims it is in her library.  No book.

I find sharing books within my one computer near impossible - not easy as music is.  It used to be easier, but now with iBooks and some other changes this has become difficult.  Also - I can use the search feature to find the "books" folder, and use "Get Info" to find the supposed address, and then not find that folder location at all using a manual method stepping through Finder.  So a second question is:  where is this file hiding?  It is not under User/Library/Containers.... as claimed by "Get Info".  It seems that if I buy a book, the family can use it to put on their iPad.

Part of me understands the need to have purchases protected.  I hope this does not get more and more complicated for "within family use".  It is nice to buy music and share it with my wife, as we used to do with books prior to the iBooks "upgrade" - which mostly consisted of making it impossible to share books.  Thanks though for your response;  I was hoping for some luck and that maybe I had missed some simple step.  To Apple:  lighten up.
Best regards and thanks again for taking the time -
