One computer, two users, two different libraries

We have one laptop with itunes loaded. One user has library with songs and ipod syncd and can transfer songs. The other user mistakingly logged on to the other account on this laptop and bought songs and they show up only on that account, but the ipod is not synced with it.
How can I transfer those five songs to the other laptop user account to be able to download them. Can I transfer one library to another from different user accounts on the same computer?

  • One Computer, Multiple Users, Multiple iTunes Libraries

    Hello
My family shares a single Mac via Fast User Switching. We all have separate iTunes libraries. I had some difficulty getting TV to be able to use all of the iTunes libraries as alternate sources for streaming music. I'm posting this here as I've noticed a couple of questions here about it with no solutions.
The symptom is that you are able to add the multiple libraries to TV by entering the passcode in iTunes but when you try to the new source, it fails to load the library. 'Loading <library> name ...' goes on forever or eventually gives up and then the library appears grey in the source list and you have to go through the registration process again. Music sharing appears to work between copies of iTunes running on the same computer.
    It's a firewall problem.
It seems that iTunes choose a new TCP port to share each different library. For me it seems to allocate ports in the 4915x range. I can't find any documentation about this. The ports are not listed in the well known list for Apple products. I discovered it because the Windows version of iTunes has an informative error message that tells you to check that a particular port is open in the firewall for the particular library when it fails to load it.
To fix it you just need to open these ports in the Mac's firewall. After that, provided all the users remain logged in with iTunes running, you will be able to stream their libraries.
I hope this helps others to get it working more quickly than I did.
I see that there are some Apple employees participating in these discussions. If you see this, maybe you could modify the documentation? Or add the solution to the How-To pages? I'll submit some feedback anyway.

I wrote a simple shell script that executes each time a user logs in (well, actually, each time I log in, coz' it's not really applicable to other users). It syncs my work and home addressbooks and iCal calendars to one another.
I named it "sync". Then I read somewhere that if you wanted to make it double-clickable (to launch it from the Finder), I appended a ".command" filename extension (so it's now named "sync.command"). I also did a chmod 755 to that file so that it had execute privileges. Depending on whether you give each user their own copy of this thing, or keep a single copy in, say, the /Users/Shared directory, you may have to play around with chmod. Whatever, just so long as the user that has just logged in has execute permissions to the file, and to the entire path to the file, you should be good.
Then, in SysPrefs > Accounts > Login Items, I added that "sync.command" file to the list. So, really the only difference is I'm not wrapping mine inside an Automator script like you are.
I had tried adding it to ~/Library/LaunchAgents and make a launchd plist for it, that would kick it off at login. But I didn't get that to work. Don't know why. But just adding the double-clickable executable unix script to the Login Items list did the trick. Whether the plist has to hang out there with it, I don't know. I still have it there, though, in case I ever get motivated to figure out what's wrong with my launchd plist file. So, if just adding it to the Login Items list doesn't do it for you, you could try making a (functional?) launchd plist for it and plopping them both in ~/Library/LaunchAgents, too. That's how I am now, and, like I said, it launches at user login as that user's process (not as a root process like the above referenced article said how login hooks worked -- although, you may want it to run as root since you want this to work with multiple users...in which case, you might want to listen to Cole and not me...).

  • One computer, two users, two libraries?

On a single computer is it possible to have two users with separate iTunes music libraries? I have established a second account but it continues to pull up the library on the computer. THANKS!

You do not need two accounts to have two libraries
Just hold down the shift key when you open iTunes (*DO NOT LET GO* of shift until a window that says "Choose iTunes library" comes up)
When you get that window just click on Create Library, this will create a new library additional to the one you already have
Now each time you open iTunes if you want to switch between libraries just hold shift key when you open iTunes and click on Choose Library to select the library you want to show up in iTunes

  • Can you run iTunes twice on one computer?  Run two libraries on one compute

My roommate and I both have iPods and share a computer but we have vastly different tastes in music. How can we both have our own iTunes libraries on one computer?

  • How can I share my itunes libraries between two users on different log ins on the same PC?

Ive recently bought my wife and iPhone 4, and we have a shared library. But she clearly downloads her own apps and music choices direct from the store to her phone, so wants to maintain her own log in etc. How can I share the library in my iTunes on my log in on the same PC to her iTunes on her log I'm on the same PC. its windows Xp machine with latest itunes version.
Ive followed the online instructions for sharing thus far, and the share library does not appear in either iTunes. ie It aint working!
    Thanks in advance

When you say you have a shared library... you mean you have a networked external hard drive that you are sharing?
In iTunes, generally...when the term Shared Library is used, it's speaking to sharing a specific computer's library over the network with different computer.
I would think it would be better to do what ya'll have been doing (one log in acct/one computer) and have her create her own Apple acct and each of you log in and out whenever purchasing music apps etc. and then setup individual playlists and pick specific playlists to sync with each individual iPhone.
If you don't want each other to know what you're buying then...disregard what I just said

  • Two users, two Palms, one computer

    Hi all -
I have a Palm device that I've been using with iSync, iCal and Address Book successfully for some time. My husband just got a Palm, and I'm trying to decide the best strategy for us to be able to sync with our one computer. It would be nice for us to be able to share addresses and calendar events sometimes, but not essential, I suppose. We don't have a .mac account.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

You do not need a .Mac account to synchronize anything but additional Macintosh desktop and portable computers.
You can either add an additional Palm device to the single account you likely share on this one computer, or you can create a second Mac OS X user account on your computer and synchronize the second Palm device with it.
The advantage of sharing the same account is that you will be able to share contact and calendaring data. The distinct disadvantage is that any addition, change or deletion of any information on your respective Palm devices will be propagated though your synchronization pool, affecting the Address Book, iCal and your other Palm device. You can limit the potential 'interference' or 'damage' by carefully choosing which individual calendars and contact groups are synchronized by each of you. Those configuration options are controlled for each device in a drop-down configuration pane for each device.
Be sure that you choose a unique HotSync name for the second Palm device and overwrite its contents during the initial synchronization event. If it contains contact or calendaring records that are unique, enter those records by hand into the Address Book and iCal so that they are not lost when the second device is overwritten.

  • Two users on different machines seem to be sharing the same signature settings in Mail

I am completely puzzled by this one.  I have two users on separate macbook pro's using OSX Mavericks Apple Mail.  Whenever one user changes their signature, it changes the other users signature.  The mail server is Kerio Connect. The only workaround is to have two signatures and then each user picks their own signature as the default.  Any ideas, anybody?

Both users are signed in to the same iCloud account, and both have activated "Documents & Data" synchronization.

  • Can same work be shared by two users with different information

how to access workbook attached to same table to be access with two users in discoverer viewer/plus

I assume that you each have an iTunes folder in your own Music folders. This will contain iTunes lIbrary.itl - the library database - an iTunes Music folder which should be empty as you have all your music in shared music.
Also I assume you have your music folder in your shared music folder and all your music is there.
You need to choose one of your iTunes folders to use for the shared database.
Copy this iTunes folder from your own Music folder into shared music. Delete the empty iTunes Music folder there, move it somewhere like the desktop if it is not empty.
Now move the folder containing your music folder into your iTunes folder so it replaces the one you deleted/moved. Rename it "iTunes Music" if that is not already its name.
Now do a shift key start. Hold down the shift key and start iTunes. Keep holding the shift key until you are prompted to choose/create a library. Select choose and navigate to the iTunes folder in Shared Music and choose iTunes Library.itl.
Check to see if it has worked.
Repeat the shift key start for the other user to connect to the shared library.
Note that you will have shared playlists, counts and ratings.
If either user is not an administrator, you will need to ensure the permissions for the shared iTunes folder allow write access for that user. Limited users do not normally have write access to folders they did not create.
If my assumptions about you set up are not correct you will need to adjust the method accordingly.

  • Two users, two iPhones, one Mac

I'm trying to help out some friends who I've just helped get started with a new Mac and iPhones and have a question for which I can't find the answer. Their Mac is setup with two user accounts, each having iTunes configured separately, and each person has their own Apple ID. If only one person is logged into his/her account and plugs in their iPhone for sync or charge...there isn't a problem. But what will happen if one of them inadvertently plugs in their iPhone while the other user is logged in? Will iTunes for that user recognize it's the wrong phone for that user and not doing anything...or will something get messed up?

Thanks, I think it's too late.
You can try the "help" button if you like.  I think it's still active.
I'm somewhat surprised at the likelihood of confusion you anticipate - the folks synching using the wrong accounts.  I guess it's just me - being signed in to someone else's account is something that would simply never occur in my world.  Some folks are just not as attentive to details, I understand.

  • Linking two users on different volumes

Say I have Snow Leopard installed on volume A, and I have a user named kddi.
I also have Lion installed on volume B, and I also have a user named kddi.
However, when I look at the other kddi's homedir on the volume that I didn't start up on, I don't have access rights. Instead of assigning two users access rights to everything on each homedir, is there a way to tell each OS to recognize the two kddi's as the same Mac user?

Nevermind, I was able to get this problem resolved using dscl magic.

  • Two Time Capsules, two users, two individual backups

Two Time Capsules, one connected via Ethernet, and one connected wirelessly to the first one to extend the network. My question is this: we are two users, and would each like to use one of the Time Capsules each to back up our data (individually). Can one of you fine minds out there tell me how you would set up the wireless network, considering my needs?
    Thanks in advance.

we are two users, and would each like to use one of the Time Capsules each to back up our data (individually).
I assume that you have assigned different names for each Time Capsule, correct?
All that you need to do on each Mac that you want to back up is this:
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Time Machine
    Click Select Disk
Click to highlight which Time Capsule you want that specific computer to use
    Click Use for Backup
Do the same thing from the other Mac, except be sure to choose the other Time Capsule in the list, of course.
