ONE Core Live processing

I am using my rig mainly for live performance. I am quite aware of the single core usage in record/input enabled tracks, I am to understand for latency reasons? My question, is that if I purchase a quad core laptop, doesn't that mean I will theortically get LESS processing power than a duo core, since the power is cut to a quarter instead of half? (assuming the speed and chip the same)
Does anyone know what it will take to spread the live performance over multiple cores without a hit to latency? Nodes maybe?
I have done Evan's benchmark, but is there one for live performance???
Thanks

Ahhhh, now maybe you are on to something that I am unaware. I thought that slaving LP to MS required IAC, which you had suggested earlier could pose potential problems.
The issues with the IAC are that it is easy to get MIDI feedback loops (at Logic's end and at MS). I have read (not personally experienced) that there can be latency issues too???

Are you saying that there is another way to slave LP to MS with two computers, one running LPX (my old MBP) and another running MS3 (the new MBP)? How? via ethernet? Firewire?
I was thinking of plain, old-school, MIDI Out from MS via External Track to MIDI interface, cable to MIDI Interface on the "Logic Mac". You could MIDI learn Logic keycommands to operate various functions such as Play/Stop etc, or similar, and simply transmit them from Screen Control Mappings in MS, or use an External Instrument Channel to send MIDI Start/Continue/Stop messages??? Never tried it, but should work.
You could probably do that all on 1 Mac, provided that you were careful to block MIDI Inputs from going to the wrong application.

In regards to running other third party software to process plugins, just too unstable to work live. Not to mention harder to troubleshoot, etc...
Vienna Ensemble Pro is pretty rock solid, but does need a dongle.

  • Itunes 8 using 100% CPU on one core.

    Hi Guys,
Since today Itunes seems to be using up 100% CPU on one of the two cores. This happens shortly after i started it - for example when i play a song.
After a few minutes it will be reactive again and then i can choose another song - after which it will hang again. It also hangs when changing for example from Films to Music. I have the idea that it happens when i click the Music library - but am not sure. I disabled AV for the itunes library folder - but that didnt change anything. This has been working fine until today. I even uninstalled and re-installed version 8. The only thing that might be related is that when i upgraded to ver. 8 i used the update function in itunes - which didnt work as well - left me with some unusable shortcuts etc. But the app itself was working.
    OS is vista.
Just saw that this is for the store only - Moderators please move if possible.

  • ACPI Interrupts occupy one core totally

    Hello.
I have a Samsung NT700Z5C-S78 laptop bought about one and a half years ago.
(btw, I replaced the laptop's HDD with an SSD (Samsung SSD 840 EVO).)
Recently, I have noticed that the System process uses 100% of one core, so I did some research through Google, and have tried:
    - cleaning-up dust inside the laptop
    - editing "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ACPI\Parameters\Attributes" key to 100 or 70 (HEX)
    - upgrading the bios
    - installing Windows 8 cleanly
    - upgrading to Windows 8.1
    - re-installing Windows 7
    - disabling the device "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery"
    but still the same.
Process Explorer says that "Hardware Interrupts and DPCs" occupies the core,
and LatencyMon shows ACPI.sys is the problem.
Can anyone help me to resolve this?
Here is the etl file from my laptop:
    https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=2CCEBED319172246!328&authkey=!AGKgHDq9w8BqkF4&ithint=file%2c.zip
    Thanks.

    Hi,
The file, ACPI.sys, is a system driver that is used to facilitate the advanced power management features of the motherboard. There appears to be a conflict on your system between the BIOS and the driver layer of your system. Please ensure the BIOS and motherboard
chipset are up-to-date and they support Windows 7.
If the issue persists, you may try to disable ACPI for a try: when you start your computer. Then, open the Power Management Setup menu. And find ACPI, select "NO" to "ACPI Aware Operating System". After that, just
type Exit and begin the installation process again.
According to your etl file, I found this process got High disk usage:
    http://www.file.net/process/dmhkcore.exe.html

It is often slower running processes across CPUs (e.g. 5 processes on 5 CPUs with 15% CPU utilisation per CPU), than running these processes on the same CPU (e.g. 5 processes on 1 CPU for a 75% CPU utilisation). See Non Uniformed Memory Access (NUMA) for some details on why this is the case.
The kernel deals with CPU scheduling. It decides which process/thread to execute on which CPU. From a s/w perspective, one can code "processor affinity" into your s/w to bind a process or thread to a specific CPU. Oracle only does this with Oracle XE - as this is one of limitation of the free version of Oracle's database s/w. Oracle uses default kernel scheduling for Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition versions.
Oracle uses the number of CPUs/cores to determine the processor load it can create. It does not force its processes to run on a single specific CPU (with XE being the exception).
So "blaming" Oracle for what you are seeing? You are blaming the wrong layer in the s/w stack. You are also very likely misinterpreting what you are seeing.
The #1 reason for poor Oracle performance is shoddy code. Code that you and your cohorts write and run in Oracle. And that is a far likelier candidate to blame for shoddy performance, than blaming Oracle and the kernel's process scheduling across CPUs.
And you have provided not a single shred of evidence that points to a SMP scheduling issue across multiple CPUs/cores.

  • Second mac in cluster uses only one core

Hello all. For some reason the second computer in my render farm is using only one core out of eight.
I'm using 2 Mac Pros linked together directly via giga ethernet wire. Mac one is a Quad Core 3ghz. Mac two is a Octo Core 2009 model. Both computers have the same version of FCS3 with different serial numbers.
In the Qmaster preferance pane: Mac one is set to "Quickcluster with services" with the check boxes for Share and Managed next to "Distributed processing for Compressor" checked. 4 instances selected and "Include unmanaged services from other computers" checked. Mac two is set to "Services only" with check box for Share next to "Distributed processing for Compressor" checked. 8 instances selected and "Include unmanaged services from other computers" checked.
I hit submit in Compressor, select the name of the cluster from Mac one, then in the Batch Monitor I see the video divied into 10 sections with Mac one handling 4 and Mac two handling one. On Mac two I see that the cores aren't fired up 100%, more like 30% on average.
I did a test earlier with a dual core mbp, and again only one core. How do I get my Octo core to use all 8 cores?

Solved the problem. The solution was simple, but somehow went under my radar. On Mac two in the Qmaster preferance pane next to the "Options for selected service" button, the selected service was set to off.

  • T440s - i7-4600U CPU - ONLY ONE core operating :((

    Hi,
I am an owner of Thinkpad T440s ultrabook, which has Intel i7 4600U CPU installed (exact model is 20AQ006BMC - the one with GeForce 730M graphic card).
Regarding to the documentation on Intel website, this CPU should have 2 cores and 4 threads (Hyperthreading). But when I start CPU-Z utility, it shows me, that I have only one core and two threads available. Same thing displays my process manager in Windows 8.1 - 1 core and 2 logical processors.
Any ideas, what could cause this problem?
    Thank you.

So any idea, what could be an issue? Should I use warranty service? because it looks to me like a broken CPU

Its true, but I would like to add my 5 cents here.
Lets say, if you have single loop like
    while (true){
    //do something
then OS will get no chance to run it in multiple threads. So, you will get max 12,5% CPU load at 8 cores PC or 50% max on dual core PC.
I have dual core PC right now, and lets check it:
So, as we can see - 50% CPU load reached (one core loaded more, but its another story).
Well, if we will use two while loops, then we will get 100 % load:
Of course, if you will need to load all 8 cores, then you should have 8 parallel loops.
Compare BD above with the following:
We have two Array minmax functions, and they independend, but we have 50% only.
Well, you can get also 100% CPU utulization withing single while loop. In th example below you have two SubVI, which called in the same loop:
We have here 100 %. Important, that these VIs should be reenterant!
See what happened if they not reeenterant:
Now a little bit about Vision. Behing of most of the Vision SubVIs are DLL calls. Some Vision functions already optimized for multicore execution. For example, convolution:
On the BD above we have single loop with one SubVI, but both cores are used (because convolute itself already optimized for multi core).
Remember, that not all Vision functions optimized yet. For, example, LowPass still single-threaded (compare this BD with BD above):
Sure, we can utilize multi cores - just perform parallel execution (you have to split image to two parts, then join together and so on):
Remember, that SubVIs should be reeentrant, and all DLL calls should be thred safe (not in UI thread). Also good idea to turn off debugging in such experiments for eliminate additional CPU load.
Another point about 8 cores. As far as I know, LabVIEW (and LabVIEW-based application) will support only 4 cores within one execution system by default (at least prior to LabVIEW 2009). If you need to utulize all 8 cores, then you should add some lines into LabVIEW.ini. Refer to the following thread where you can found more details:
Interpolate 1d slow on 8 core machine
Hope all written above was correct.
Thank for reading and best regards,
    Andrey.

  • Unsigned Core Windows Processes

Using Process Explorer from the SysInternals suite, I found that key windows processes are unsigned. Some of the key ones are as follows: smss.exe, csrss.exe, services.exe, wininit.exe, winlogon.exe.
I have run Avast! boot time scan, Malware bytes memory scan, and MS Malicious Software Removal Tool with no results. Manual analysis with SysInternals suite gives access denied when trying to suspend these processes, and errors when trying to find cmd line
    execution or execution path.
Booting the machine into safe mode with no networking and using Process Monitor reveals the signed versions of these processes.
It is vary concerning that core Windows processes are not signed. Why would this be occurring, and how can it be fixed?

Well the Apple guy was right but it is too bad that he didn't give you some better ideas where/how to solve the problem.
Some process on Windows machines that are known to cause problems are the drivers for built in webcams. Usually an update of those drivers will solve the problem. The other thing that could be going on is with the Apple Mobile Device Service. If you read through the attached article and do the things suggested, you will probably get it fixed. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567

  • K9VGM-V and dual core, task manager recognises one core?

Motherboard : MSI K9VGM-V (Not OEM)
    CPU            : AMD Athlon X2 4200+
    RAM            : 1GB Corsair DDR2 667Mhz
GPU            : Point of View 7900GS
OS             : Windows XP Home SP2
I've had this setup for a while now, and only now noticed that my Task Manager is only showing information on one core and I can't set affinity for any program on the processes list. Device manager shows two instances of AMD ATHLON X2 4200+ but nothing else shows a sign. I've also looked through the game applications steam and it says I have 1 Physical and 1 Logical, surely this isn't right?
I have a version 1 BIOS and the MSI site says dual cores weren't compatible until the latest version of the BIOS (V1.8). I have download that and have reformatted my USB stick to FAT32 and have it all ready with the software this forum recommends. I have tried flashing once, and I couldn't get the flash software to boot, I have changed the boot sequence and most other options in the BIOS and it still doesn't boot. Does anybody know what settings I need for the process to begin?

Ahh, I managed to flash the BIOS successfully after reformatting my drive once more. All I need to do is to reinstall some drivers from AMD now.

  • Mid Year Go-Live Process

    Hi All,
We are using internation payroll driver for payroll process. We are planning upload data from SAP 4.5 B to SAP ECC 6.0 ( Fresh Implementation).
What will be the best option to upload the Payroll Data.
    Mid Year Go-Live Process. If Yes then I saw DIfferent tables for the same like T558 A, T558B , T558 C and T558 D.
In Internation schema XLKO they are using 558D. in India it is T558 B and T558C.
What are the differences using diff tables.
What is the best option to transfer data from SAP 4.5 B to SAP ECC 6.0.
    Regards

    Hi,
It depends on requirements to level of complexity of historical payroll results. As a rule T558A is enough, but it is not guaranteed.
So you should discuss with customer the requirements and decide what level of comlpexity is needed. First of all where it will be used, what fields, etc., and then chose the best approach.
In general tables T558A, T558C, T558D are containing similar information, but details are different.
Table T558B contains information about periods. It is especially required if there were many retrocalculations.
    These are table names:
    T558A Old Payroll Account Transfer
T558B Payroll Account Transfer: Payroll Periods
T558C Payroll Account Transfer: Old Wage Types
T558D Transfer Wage Types with Split Indicator

  • How to handle the One-Time Customer Process (Customizations - Master Datas)

How can we handle the processes of one time customers (for example sales from a store without a warranty process fort he products)? Iu2019m planning of creating a different sales document type and use a single customer number for all of the documents created. On the other hand SAP has a solution for the one-time customers but I donu2019t know its details. Can anybody explain me the standard one-time customer process of SAP (the needed customizations and the master datas to be created)?
Thanks in advance for the answers....

    Hi..
the one-time customer is an account group (CPDA) that is used for "walk-in" or "cash" buyers. although this account group can be used for regular sales orders, this is intended to be used with the Cash Sales type of sales documents, where no accounts receivable is created. you also need the one-time customer as a "dummy" and avoid creating many customer masters for buyers who may only do one transaction with your company.
when you use the one-time customer account group in the Cash Sales order, you enter the one-time customer number in the sold-to party field. the system will then prompt you to enter the actual name (and address) of the buyer. you can have the option of generating SD reports with the real names of the customers.
you create the one-time customer the same way you do with the regular Sold-to party. there are some differences, in the sense that this is a "dummy" account. you do XD01 or VD01 to create the account, choosing account group CPDA. you also make entries in the sales areas.
