One Custom Ringtone at a Time - That's all we get?

Has anyone successfully loaded more than ONE custom ringtone onto their iPhone and had success using the additional tones?
I bought three from iTunes and created one of my own. I'm only able to have ONE of these tones on the phone at any one time. If I load all four (or any subset) the correct NUMBER of files will appear, but they will all be the same.

I too had the same tone showing up where all the others should be but (thanks to the guy at apple support) fixed it.
First of all, you need to re-set your library as this is most likely the problem.. Follow the instructions on this link:

If you have more than one folder then do the same with that one. You may end up with duplicate tunes but just clicka and hold down ctrl then delete to get rid of them. Note: make sure both copies play first!
Afterward, COMPLETELY restore your phone (as easy as clicking restore in itunes but): http://movies.apple.com/movies/us/apple/iphone/2007/tips/iphone-tip-resetiphone560x316.mov
DON'T set it up as a new phone after this, use backup option as this works fine.
Then buy/ make your ringtone (if you make them your self please be sure they are under 30 seconds long)then drag them into the ringtone library on itunes library ABOVE the phone NOT the phone one itself. Then, click on your phone device in itunes, go over to the ringtone tab (between info and music in the top middle of the screen) and then click selected ringtones and tick the ones you want and then press sync. You should have them all there now and you are done.
Good luck. It was a great guy in european apple support that helped me. Custom Ringtones are only supported in the USA right now and he had to leave me quickly but he solved my problem and didn't even know it. Hope this helps you all.

Only one custom ringtone at a time?

I've uploaded more than one custom ringtone at a time onto my phone, but it shows two of the same song and won't upload anymore. Anyone with a suggestion?

When you connect the iphone up to itunes, click on the iphone on the left side.
To the left of the name of the iphone on the left hand side of itunes, there is a triangle.
Click on that triangle and it will expand a menu down or up.
Click on the ringtones under the iphone and see if the ringtones show up as duplicate or different.
If the ringtones are different, then there is corrupted on the iphone that is not allowing it to read the ringtones correctly.
To fix this you will need to restore the iphone.
After the iphone has been restored an option will come up to restore from back up.
Do not restore from back up, set up as a new iphone.
The reason for this is if there was anything corrupted on the iphone that was not allowing the iphone to read the ringtones correctly, you do not want to put it back on the iphone.

There are times that I don't get voice instructions in Maps on my iPhone 5s. Actually, the directions don't even advance automatically as I expect. Can anyone explain why this happens? How do I correct this? It's dangerous to drive and look at the iPhone screen at the same time, much less manually advancing the the directions!

Put the phone in Airplane mode...this turns off all iPhone radios...but, you can go back into settings & turn WiFi back on. You can then use iMessage.
No nasty surprises if you do that.

If your library was working on your computer and then popped up empty all of a sudden then this might be what you need...
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

Problem with custom ringtones

I just made about 7 new custom ringtones, but there is a problem transferring them to my phone. Each tone does not appear in the Settings -> Sounds -> Custom Ringtones part. Instead, I see whatever Ringtone I last synced listed about 7 times. Any suggestions?

How to I get my custom ringtones to play again?

Genius bar helped me restore photos and videos that didn't make it through last week's Icloud install on the new Iphone.
Only my default ringtone will play, It's an Itune purchased ringtone. All my other custom ringtones (some purchased, some that came with the Iphone) are still
loaded with the appropriate contacts, but all of those ring as the default.
I've tried resaving the tunes or changing the purchased ones to ones originated in the Iphone but anything marked custom rings as default.
Any suggestions?
Other weird things happened too since last night's erasing of the phone to restore to last week's backup...airplane mode was on when I woke up, and wi fi turned itself off overnight.

You should have copied the complete iTunes Library, including the iTunes Library.itl file, which, as far as I know, contains all the Play Counts from the existing (old) iTunes and pasted that into your new computer.
Again, as far as I understand it, the total Play Count is not held on the Classic. If it was, it would not include plays within the iTunes Library. All the iPod does is remember how many plays since the last sync and tell iTunes to increase the Play Count by that number.

Exchange Synced Contacts Lose Custom Ringtones After 24 Hours

Currently running iPhone 3GS with 3.1 against a Windows Exchange 2003 Server utilizing Active Sync. Once I assign custom ringtones to my contacts (that are synced from Exchange) after about 24 hours all ringtones are reverted back to Default.
Anyone else having this issue or is there a solution?

Actually, I thought a system update does do a backup and restore. I thought it wiped out the data, applied the system OS, then restored the data. Otherwise how would all of the settings, applications, and other data be in the same status as before the update? In any case, I wouldn't have thought that all contact data would need to be re-applied afterwards. But actually my main problem, aside from this, is that my contacts are consistently losing their custom ringtones. I use push services for my contacts, and I can understand why re-population of my contact data loses them since a ringtone isn't a maintained data field in Exchange, but this situation only makes it worse if I'll lose ringtones after every system update.

My Iphone 4 only shows 4 custom ringtones

I have a new iphone 4 and my friend told me how to send my ringtones to email, place them on my desktop, and then drag them into my itunes account to ringtones. I downloaded about 20 ringtones and drug them into my itunes and then sync my phone. When I check the ringtones in my phone it only shows that I have only 4 custom ringtones and not the 20. My friend showed me his phone and he has 9 custom ringtones in his phone. How do I get all my ringtones under my custom ringtones. Please help, very fustrating.

Check in iTunes under the ringtones tab (with the phone connected) that the custom tones are ticked then sync your phone. This has happened to me in the past.

Make sure you created ringtones are .m4r format, if not, try this steps
Rename all .m4a episode files to be .m4r
Remove and re-add the files to the iTunes library
Sync with the iPhone now works

Custom Ringtones ring only one time ( Please Report to Xperia Z2 Developers )

I buy Z2 last weak, before it i was using Z1.
Both devices have one error in their Firmware and that is about ringtone.
no matter whatever the custom ringtone you set for ringtone notification its ring only one time and then only vibrate.
For example i set a tone which is 12 second tone so when ever some one call me after 12 second the ringtone did not repeat.

I updated my iphone 3gs today to the ios 5. I have 4 custom ringtones in my itunes library, but it will only allow 3 to sync to my phone. They were all on before I updated today. I have deleted the one that won't transfer

I deleted both ringtones and recreated them. They are in my itunes ringtone library, and show under my phone ringtones. When I sync my phone, 2 will not sync onto my phone? Any information will be greatly appreciated!!!!!

hold sleep / home button until apple logo appears ignoring red slider and
allow to reboot

Paul--you are a life-saver!! Worked great. I did have to look around to make sure I was getting 4.9 instead of 4.7 (even when the file was named 4.9 at techspot.com), but I finally got the right file, did the install as you suggested, and everything is now fine. One note, though, that I haven't seen mentioned in any of this thread: when I first tried to open up iTunes after getting back to 4.9, the following message appeared: "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." I merely went to the old .itl file that was created when I did the update to iTunes 5, renamed it, moved it over to my now new 4.9, and iTunes opened fine. My library was a few days out of date, because of the few days' lag from the time I did the iTunes update, but that was easily taken care of, and everything's now working fine. Thanks again!!!
