One e-mail to a friend I've not sent e-mail to in a month... and it's called "spam"

Just tried to send an e-mail to a friend.  A whopping four short paragraphs with a whopping one hyperlink and Verizon's state-of-the-art "spam detector" says its "spam".
What a crock.  Did they actually pay money for this?  And since when does ONE e-mail constitute spam?
In case you can't sense it, yes, I'm angry.  I've NEVER, EVER had an e-mail blocked because it's spam.  I even did a test.  As soon as I removed the ONE hyperlink (which is to my own, personal website), the e-mail went through.  And Verizon's answer to this is to tell me I have to send the e-mail so that their "third party partner" can review it and decide whether or not its spam?  Hey, Verizon!  Now hear this!  It's MY e-mail and none of your business!  If you want to drive me back to Comcast, this is how to do it!  If I were sending hundreds of e-mails a day, that's one thing.  But this is the first e-mail I've sent in five days.  One e-mail in five days.  And I'm a spammer?  Are ya kidding?
I've now temporarily switched my outgoing SMTP to Gmail (which is not a much better option because they also read and catalog every e-mail that passes through their system).  Verizon!  Get rid of this "spam" (which is not really filtering spam since its just willy-nilly blocking stuff) filter.  It's not working!

"The spam checker even blocked that one."
Wow!  The power of one URL.  Okay, for the first time since this started, the irony of that made me laugh!
Which brings me back to my original question, why does Verizon invoke such a harsh reaction (no e-mail delivery) for ONE e-mail sent in a five day period?  If it were this e-mail PLUS something such as, "He's now sent over 200 e-mails a day for the last week", that I could understand.  But there needs to be some common sense here.  Right now, I'm not seeing it.

  • I have a gen. one ipad purchased from a friend.  I find that it's using 5.1.1 and I am trying to download Netflix 5.1.  However, I keep getting a prompt that I am REQUIRED to update to iOS 6 in order to download the Netflix icon to my iPad. How to fix??

I purchased a frist gen. iPad from a friend.  I find that it's using 5.1.1. and says that it's "updated" when I check.  Problem came when I tried to download my Netflix onto the ipad.  I keep getting the prompt that I must upgrade to iOS 6.  The netflix is 5.1 so I don't understand the problem.  My son also purchased a first gen. iPad and was able to download his netlifx account with no problem.  He got an option to "download a previous version".  I don't get that option and we have the same iPads - both running 5.1.1
I read that there is a way around this problem but can't seem to locate a solution.  I've tried numerous times and always get the same prompt - that I must upgrade to iOS6.  Can anyone help me with this.  Using my Netflix was one of the main reasons I purcased the iPad.

And they do offer a compatible version. As I am running running Netflix on my first generation iPad just fine.
You'll need to first "purchase" the non compatible version  either on a newer device that can run it or on a computer running iTunes using the Apple ID that is on the first Gen iPad.
After that is done, you should be able to go into the App Store App, and find Netflix under the Purchased Tab. Tap on it to download it and you should be warned its not compatible, but will be offered the compatible version.

  • New library did not give me folders divided by day, month and year.  My previous one did.  How do I make this happen?

    Hi All
Just changed external hard drives and am setting up a new library to pull all the new locations together.  How do I get the library to be subdivided by day, month, year?  It came up just ordered by date but not subdivided.  Seemed simpe but I have been at it for hours with no success.
    Thanks,
    Henry from Vermont

Thanks so much for the quick response.
    History:
    started in LR4 in PC
Moved to Mac and OSX with LR5 (Mac Pro Book retina with solid state drive
    so fast)
I had my PC original photos on an external PC drive that was filling up and
only could be red by mac but not written.
Just bought a 1tb drive and formated it for Mac
Moved through finder all photos and LR catalogs from PC 640gig drive to new
mac formated 1tb and then imported them which did not take a long time and
did not bring originals into the mac.  This was a new catalogue.  I still
have the old one and the files on the PC external drive.
LR finds and displays these originals (a mix of raw and jpegs with a few
tifs.  A 14 year collection, perhaps 18,000 images) but the list is not
subdivided in any way, just one large group of photos in date taken
sequence.  The old catalogue was subdivided by day, month, year.  I may
have created duplicates but have not checked.  I had a backup copy of some
    lost photos which imported.
My goal is to have all photos broken out by date.  I must retain edited
results and would like to maintain meta data.
Is this enough info?  What else would you like?
    Thanks,
    Henry

  • I recently purchased a new laptop to replace my current one on which I use lightroom. I am also getting a new desktop this month and would like to install lightroom on both of my new computers (i will no longer need it on the old laptop). Can I do this wi

I understand I can use lightroom on up to two computers as long as I am not running them at the same time. My question is, can I uninstall it from my current laptop and install it on two new computers?

Yes, you can do that. To be in compliance with the Lightroom license, it needs to be installed on only two computers. But there is no activation/deactivation process for Lightroom. So it will be fine for you to install Lightroom 5 on both of your new computers. This document might help you in making the move:

  • 10.5.2 STILL only allows one e-mail adr per WGM account

I'm getting REALLY tired of Server in several areas. So much for thinking that the .2 update would solve the, ahem, undocumented features.
In this case, I have one WGM account with a bazillion e-mail addresses, many addresses per domain for several domains. I can only send mail to ONE of those e-mail addresses. Sending mail to any of the other e-mail addresses provokes a "550 We will not relay" The same is true of all WGM accounts. Mail Server seems to pick one address in WGM at random (or WGM does so), and lets no e-mail to any of the other short name e-mail addresses.
This behaviour is nuts. What does it take to get Server 10.5.x to behave wrt accounts and log ins? The docs. are quite clear on what to to, but the product simply refuses to do as it is told in the GUI.
I'm beginning to think that Server is a complete waste of money. It should NOT be this difficult to set up a server. After all, isn't Apple the master of the GUI? After months of this flakey behaviour by Leopard Server, I'm starting to get really upset with Apple (not something I would have ever expected), in that Server does not seem to be of merchantable quality, at least to me. I've run into too many show-stopping, critical bugs in this product. :-/
    Grrr.
    Help! Thanks.

The bottom of page 7 of your tutorial clearly shows that one can enter more than one fully-qualified e-mail address for 'virtual-user1'
Sure. As long as it is for the same virtual domain.
There's nothing to indicate that. Everything in both your document and Apple's make an unspoken assumption that the same user will only collect e-mail from a single virtual domain. This is not going to be the case for all users. Given the lack of documentation specifically saying one has to use only ONE e-mail virtual domain, and the behaviour that one WGM user CAN collect e-mail from more than one domain, the logical inference is that, given the documentation that one can have more than one e-mail address at a given virtual domain, one should be able to have both more than one e-mail address at a single virtual domain and more than one virtual domain per WGM user. The logic is sound, and there is NO indication anywhere (the docs., your very useful cheat sheet, and the discussion fora) that it cannot be done. THAT's what is so frustrating.
Where do I say you can add other domains?
You do not say it cannot be done, and my server does do it. It only does it for one address per virtual domain, however.
Again, it would defeat the purpose and differentiation of virtual vs. local domains.
Not when one is set up as an ISP to several customers with same user names for their e-mail addresses in wholly separate virtual domains, but ALSO with customers with several virtual domains with users who have more than one e-mail address in EACH domain and addresses in more than one virtual domain. This is a real-world scenario. I have it.
The tutorial guides you through setting up 2 users, 2 in the local and 2 in each of the 2 virtual domains. As sample data it uses virtual-domain1.com and virtual-domain2.com. Nowhere throughout the tutorial are virtual-domain1.com and virtual-domain2.com used together for the same user.
Don't you think there is a reason behind that?
    shortname3-x: aliases for e-mail address under shortname2
Would clearly seem to indicate that one should simply add additional e-mail aliases for the user at this point (and many of my users have e-mail addresses in more than one virtual domain). It in no way indicates that one should limit the aliases to the same virtual domain (since one is adding e-mail addresses for the USER, not the domain).
What I'm suggesting is that both Apple's documentation and the cheat sheet are confusing to a new user. From the point of view of a new administrator, there is no explanation of what cannot be done, specifically that each user should only be set up to be for only a single virtual domain (not, necessarily a real-world situation). Problem is, the evidence is that the server WILL allow me to set up a single WGM user to receive e-mail at addresses in more than one virtual domain, which simply adds to the confusion.
The documentation available does not preclude a WGM user having e-mail addresses in more than one virtual domain, and evidence from my server behaviour says that a WGM user CAN pick up from more than one virtual domain that is not the local domain (but it breaks on more than one e-mail address in any one of those virtual domains). Maybe the docs. are incomplete or wrong, maybe the server behaviour is not as it should be. Either way, currently, the two conflict.
Anyway, I am done arguing. If you want to find a solution I'll be happy to assist.
Please understand that I'm not trying to argue. I'm merely stating the evidence as I see it and as clearly as possible, and trying to show how it appears to conflict and, therefore, how it frustrates. Text often does not convey what speech does. I'd love to know what to do in my situation. If we get the explanation in this thread, then other confused and frustrated users will not have to go through these hassles.
I have many users, several of whom EACH need to pick up mail for more than one address in any given hosted virtual domain AND for more than one virtual domain (i.e. many addresses in each of many virtual domains).

You create an @icloud.com address in the first place by signing into Settings>iCloud with your Apple ID and choosing an addres - you can only create an @icloud.com address, not @me.com.
Then if you want further addresses on the same account you can add up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account. (In fact it's a good idea to give out alias addresses, rather than the main address, because if they attract spam you can easily change them.) (New aliases can only be @icloud.com ones; @me.com addresses cannot now be created.)
You should be aware before you start that once you've created an alias you cannot turn that address into a full iCloud account or move it to another account.

  • Mail goes to 100% CPU and becomes unresponsive on one e-mail

Until this morning, I've had no problems with Mail. A business associate sent me an e-mail as a reply to a conversation spanning several weeks with a small PDF attachment. When I went to read the e-mail on my MacBook Pro, Mail became unresponsive with the "loading panel" twirling in the e-mail pane. CPU load went to 100% and remained there. I found that if I clicked on another mailbox, eventually (minutes later) it would become selected and CPU load would drop back down to normal. Tried it several times with the same results.
My mail server filters out spam and forwards all e-mails to my gmail account so that I have all of my e-mails on my iPhone. I found the offending e-mail on my iPhone and found that it opened just fine and the attachment opened fine too. Thinking that the e-mail had somehow become corrupted, I deleted it from my MacBook Pro then forwarded the message from my iPhone to the account used by my MacBook Pro. When I went to read the forwarded e-mail on my MBP, the same problem occurred. From what I can see in my iPhone there's nothing unusual about the e-mail, just some text and the small PDF attachment. I can open other e-mails with PDF attachments fine. It's just this one e-mail that gives Mail a problem.
Here's what I've done so far:
Using Disk Utility, I did a repair on my MBP volume - no problems found.
I did a permissions repair - nothing unusual.
I did a rebuild on all of my mail folders - everything went okay.
I disabled and uninstalled Letter Opener Pro (the only plug-in I use with Mail)
    I disabled Norton.
Still no joy. I realize I can just delete the e-mail and go on with life but ideally I would like to be able to solve the problem so it doesn't happen again. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you solve it?

Safari has been known to cause cpu usage to spike. If nothing else, report the pages to Apple using "Report Bugs to Apple" under the Safari menu.
One of the Safari issues in the OS X 10.4.4 update was:
Addresses an issue in which some websites, such as www.cbsnews.com, could cause CPU usage to spike unnecessarily, or cause Safari to stop responding, unless Safari's Enable JavaScript preference was deselected.
It is possible that they didn't get it completely fixed.
I have also noticed that Safari slows down after being open for an extended period or if I have tons of tabs open, although it is not as bad as it once was. Additionally, regardless of anything else, it does appear that some sites slow down Safari's performance and/or spike the cpu usage until I close that tab. (I've had this happen to me with Firefox as well, by the way).

  • Could someone PLEASE tell me how to set up more than one POP mail account.

I am soooo frustrated. Before I upgraded to Tiger I had no problems setting up my mail accounts. Now, I can only set up one POP mail account. I have three mail accounts that I desperately need to set up from the same ISP server, all POP accounts. On Panther and earlier, all I had to do was add the accounts. Now I have ONE POP account and when I try to set up another I get an error message that I already have a POP account set up. Why is this happening and what happened to the old system that worked just fine. I am so annoyed with this. It simply defies logic!!!!

I don't know if this will work or not, but why don't you try using bogus pop and/or smtp server information when you initially establish the accounts with Mail's setup wizard? Just continue through the "warning: cannot validate server" messages that the wizard will give you. Then go into Mail > preferences > accounts and highlight each of the new accounts, one at a time, and try changing the incoming pop and outgoing smtp mail server information to what it is supposed to be?
For the "Outgoing" server just use the pull-down menu, to select it, and when all accounts are done, go into that same pull-down menu and choose "Edit Server List..." to remove the bogus smtp server information.
Incoming should be just renaming that pop server in the "Incoming server" field.
If that doesn't work, I've got something riskier you could try, again with no guarantees, and that is editing your ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist file using either the Property List Editor that comes with XCode Tools (will launch automagically when you click on that .plist file if XCode is installed) or with the pico editor in Terminal, and possibly renaming some folders in your ~/Library/Mail folder, too. Again, start with the bogus server info, then find those entries in the .plist file and make changes there.
Note: if not familiar with the notation, "~" means your "home" directory.

  • Mii attach multiple files in one e-mail

    Hello everyone
    This is Yuko.
There are two MII may have a problem with email attachments.
    1. Once you attach multiple files in one e-mail
    Please tell me how this
    2. Can not be above 1, and compiled into a single ZIP file.
Now, I can attach multiple files in one e-mail,
When you extract the ZIP, just made away with the file directory path is created,
you can not open the attachment and open the folder several times.
Anyone know a solution to this problem, please tell me.

    Kevin, Thanks for answers.
    My English is poor. Sorry.
Your answer is, we assume that the permit issue, and probably would not matter. Again, write the points in need.
For example, the two CSV when put together in one ZIP file, the workbench in the CSV file to specify the full path. CSV file, the workbench under the Web folder and then five in the second tier. At this time, who received an email with this attachment is to open the attachments, ZIP and open the file, open the following folder hierarchy, the next ..., and, many times to open the folder , will finally open a CSV file. Many times without opening the folder you want to open a CSV file.
    We look forward advice.
