One email crashing mail app

Hey guys, i have this one email and for some reason has so many reply threads it is 555KB. Itll open this email fine, if I try to reply itll let me type it.. and then when I hit send it will go back to the original email and sit there.. the little circle loader icon on the top freezes and eventually the iphone restarts. The reply never makes it out of the iphone. I figure this since when it restarts its not in the sent. Anyone else experience this?

I have had this problem - I solved it by reinstalling from scratch - but do not restore from backup - install app by app manually - then it worked for me.I lost some data - but better this way :-)

  • A problem to sync emails in Mail app between iMac and Macbook Air

    Hello members,
I have had a problem that can't sync emails in Mail app(OSX Mavericks) betwee iMac and Macbook Air. I have iCloud mail account and several Gmail accounts on the mail app.
Is there anyone to help me?

When both are at home on the same network and sharing drives, you can use a variety of tools.  Check the App store for fily syncronization.  Also, OS X includes rsync if you are a UNIX command line person, and there are shareware GUI's for rsync as well (RsyncX was one I remember).  Then there are commercial tools like Chronosync.
Another, albeit to my mind cumbersome way, is to use an airport time capsule and time machine.  You use TM to backup each machine, and use the option in TM to browse another TM backup to restore from (eg. come home from a trip, backup the MacBook Air, then log on to the iMac, browse to the MBA backup volume and restore what you recently worked on from there).
Or get a NAS device for home and use that as a common personal form of dropbox.  The key would be keeping a neat uniform directory structure for the things you need sync'd - like maybe just the Documents folder & subfolders.

  • Why "Outlook Express" users can't read email from Mail.app ?

Why "Outlook Express" users can't read email from Mail.app ? Any explanation ? Select a good format, that's a good explanation, but i can't know each time if our recipients use "Outlook Express".

There are no completely bug free email clients including the Mail.app and Outlook has its share of bugs for such an old/mature email clients and some glaring ones that MS has been aware of for a long time but has chosen not to do anything about since these do not affect exchanging email with other Outlook users.
Outlook has always had problems with Mail's RTF and the degree depending on the Windows and Outlook versions used by the recipient.

  • Cannot send email in mail app. using POP account with Wi-Fi

I recently moved to an apartment that only has wireless internet access. Since moving I cannot send email using my POP account, although I can receive email. I was also not able to receive email using my .mac account, but I learned through this forum to change server port to 587 in .mac account and now I can send via .mac account in mail app. But I still cannot sent email with mail app. using my POP account. I changed no settings when I moved, and have never had this problem with cable. Any suggestions?

It all depends on the policy of whoever is the ISP at your new location and the method used by the outgoing (SMTP) server to determine whether you’re a legitimate user.
In an attempt to fight spam, many ISPs restrict the ability to send using an outgoing (SMTP) server not owned by them, usually by blocking port 25 for all traffic outside their own network, which means you cannot send with an SMTP server not owned by them if configured to use that port number. And it may happen the other way around as well, i.e. the outgoing server itself may look at the IP address you’re connecting from and refuse the connection if you’re outside its own network.
Something that often works is changing the outgoing server port to 587 (or whatever alternate port number the outgoing server listens to) instead of 25 and using some form of authentication in Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server > Server Settings, but two conditions must be satisfied for this change to work: (1) the ISP must not block that port as well AND (2) the outgoing server in question must listen to that port and accept a form of authentication not based on the IP address you’re connecting from.
Independent mail service providers not tied to a particular ISP, such as .Mac and Gmail, do allow authenticated SMTP access on port 587, which is the reason changing the outgoing server port number solves the problem for them if the ISP doesn’t block that port as well.
The following article, for example, describes several ways to address this issue in the case of .Mac, but can be useful for other mail accounts as well (not just .Mac), and applies to all versions of Mac OS X (not just Mac OS X 10.4.2 and earlier as the article states):
.Mac: Server timeout alert message when sending email

I never had that problem with POP mail before. The message may still be the serrver for you to dwonload. A this point I'd recommend you contact AppleCare, if you don't have the contact information you can find it at:

  • HT5361 Is there a way to find and erase duplicate emails in mail.app?

Is there a way to find and erase duplicate emails in mail.app?

Mail.app does not have this possiblility acc. to Apple. There are Scripts but not provided by Apple.
A solution can be to use third party software but I prefer Apples own software so have to wait until there is an update.

  • How can I get my email messages to open in one click with Mail app?

    Hello,
How do I get my email messages to open with just one tap? On my newer Macbook I just click once on the Mail app and my messages open automatically but on the Powerbook it takes two clicks. Can this be fixed to just one click? I've gone into preferences but can't seem to change it.

    Carolyn,
Thanks, I was wanting to just click once on a message and have it open right away and then be able to quickly go through my messages. I found the solution from another helpful Mac user. You just move the separator bar that divides your messages from the view pane and move it up and it works like a charm.

  • Sample Rule Action Script.scpt crashes mail app sometimes

Hi, I know next to nothing about applescript, but today came across a post which seemed like it could be solved with a little rule triggered AppleScript action. So I ...
    1. dug up the 'Sample Rule Action Script.scpt', and copied it into ~/Library/Scripts/Applications/Mail/
    2. created a rule which applied to all email messages and triggered the script
    3. selected a message, and hit cmd option L to apply rules to the selection
and up popped an alert panel. (expected behavior) But only the first time and only on one of my two machines. On the other Mail.app crashed. (unexpected behavior)
But then I found I couldn't reliably run it repeatedly on the first machine after all. So I repaired permissions. Now I get the crashing behavior reliably.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? The script is the one everyone should have under:
    /Library/Scripts/Mail Scripts/Rule Actions/Sample Rule Action Script.scpt

hello Camelot. I hope this is not too far afield in this thread but its as close I can find in the current discussion topics. I've been attempting to write a script to filter flagged messages from the old messages (> 6 days old) I want to delete. I use the rule to send it to my script as you discuss. My script doesn't function but when I replace it with the Sample Rule Script, things run like a charm. (Although the text that Craig sites doesn't run.) My question is what's wrong with my script that it is not triggered. It is as follows, it is compiled, and I added a sound command to try and debug it. It didn't work.
    using terms from application "Mail"
on perform mail action with messages theMessages
    tell application "Mail"
play sound ..........+These 2 lines added in an attempt to ascertain if the messages where even passing+
"Basso" ..................+through the script. No sound resulted; syntax?+
set theflaggedstatus to flagged status of eachMessage
if flagged status is false then
    delete message
    end if
    end tell
end perform mail action with messages
    end using terms from
The result is no result, nothing, nada. The old messages stay in the mailbox whether they are flagged or not. I inserted a standard change color of message rule above and below the "run Applescript" rule command and the messages are colored as they should be but the Applescript is not functioning. My script, at this point, seems overly complex for what it is, but it is the result of numerous attempts to get it working. I have a number of similar scripts written with basically the same consequence.
If this post is outside the thread here, my apologies, if it is maybe you can redirect my inquiries. thanks tT

  • Exchange account crashes Mail app

My 1st Gen iPhone has worked well with my Exchange account (and 3 other accounts) for more than a year, but since upgrading to 3.0 (and 3.0.1) the phone's Mail app crashes whenever it checks for mail. If I turn off the Exchange account, no crashes. Is there a fix for this behavior?

Figured it out. I deleted the existing account and created a new one, using the same information, and Mail no longer crashes. Furthermore, it appears that email from this account is now pushed to the phone.

  • Individual emails crashing Mail 2.1.3

I get hundreds of emails daily, most without difficulty. But about once or twice a week, I get an email that refuses to display and then crashes Mail. This began to happen just a few weeks ago. If I relaunch Mail and try to read the same email a second time, it not only crashes Mail but it also munges the com.apple.mail.plist file, resetting all my accounts and prefs to default (thank heavens for backups!). All I can do is maneuver the list of emails so I can select 3 emails (2 good ones with the faulty one in the middle) and delete all 3. I CAN read the same offending email in web mail, so the problem is clearly Mail specific. In one case, the email contained an embedded audio file, but I don't know if earlier problem emails had that attribute.
I am going to paste in the Console crash log. I can't read it, but maybe someone here can spot the problem and suggest a solution. All help will be appreciated.

  • Bounced email causes mail app to close

After reading many many posts across the internet, I finally figured that a bounced email message (which may show up in your inbox as "mail delivery error" or something similar) was crashing my mail app.
The symptoms? I would open my mail app, it would try to retrieve mail and then close about 3 seconds later.
The fix? I had to log into my POP mail account via the web, delete the email with the delivery error and then on my iPhone, delete/add back my mail account. If you don't delete the message on the server first, you just end up back in the same boat the next time you retrieve messages from the server.
The fix is simple enough but how can the folks at Apple expect us to do this every time we get a bounced email? We really need a fix ASAP unless there is one on the way?

I seriously doubt Apple expects us to do this everytime there is a bounced email.
For me, a bounced email is few and far between - only when the recipient's incoming mail server allocation has been exceeded and not accepting any new messages, or the incoming mail server incorrectly detects my email address or a message as being spam, which is even more few and far between. Regardless, a bounced message - a return error message from the recipient's incoming mail server did not crash the iPhone's Mail client, but this is with an IMAP account. Since these are so few and far between, I don't recall the last time I recieved one.
Not sure what the fix is or if a fix for POP accounts is on the way but in the interim if you are getting many bounced messages, you may want to look into why.

  • Cannot send email with Mail app-..can't connect to AOL server anymore??

Up until today my MAIL app in my iMac let me use an email address that is from the AOL.com group (netscape.net)…I cannot send emails now because I can't get the computer to connect to the server. My iPad will….but not the desktop. I tried using a different server name; smtp.nestcape.net, which is the one I used in the iPad…but the iMac won't let me change it to that one..so back to the old smtp.aol.com……Still my MAIL app is not recognizing this or letting me connect!?!. I tried creating a new password at the wedpage of that email account.. successfully..but it has made no difference. I am stumped and have wasted half the day trying to deal with this. Anyone else have such an experience? HELP…PLEASE!

Thank you Eric for sending the links. Fortunately after I wrote this post…I don't know what happened but I filled in my mail preference settings for the umteenth time with my new email password and voila! It worked. For some reason however…now when I open the Mail App I do still get a prompt asking me if I want to use this server….and it is, of course, the one and only I have listed.!?!?! The thing that irritates me…is…that I had done NOTHING to cause a problem to begin with. I think my email account at aol (nestcape) may have been hacked and my password stolen or compromised in some way??...and perhaps that caused a glitch in my mail app??? I am no techy, but I should have started out with my intuition and changed the password first before going mental….When something like this happens it makes one feel so vulnerable.…I usually feel well secured with my lone iMac and now my new iPad…ANYWAY…thank tyou  for addressing my issue and I have bookmarked those links…for future reference which I hope I never need. Hey..is that your kitty??? She is beeeooootiful!
Take care and again, thanx~ D

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I can't delete/move emails using Mail app

I upgraded to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard and having problems with my Mail application.
The long and short of it is that I cannot delete or move emails from my Inbox.  When I select an email in the preview panel and delete it, it disappears, but when I select the Trash folder, it isn't in there.  And when I go back to my Inbox, lo and behold, it is back there again, as if I had never deleted it.  The same holds true when I try to move an email from my Inbox to one of my iCloud folders.
Emails come in to my Inbox just fine.
And I am able to move emails from one iCloud folder to another, however.
And I do not have this problem when I access my email via Iphone, ipad or icloud.com.  In fact, when I delete an email from my iphone, it gets deleted from my Inbox on my Mail app.
I looked in Mail Preferences, and I have one Account set up:   iCloud IMAP.   Is that right?  I use me.com for my email.
    Any ideas here?

This means that at some time you had the iWork ’09 trial installed. You need to delete the trial & then reinstall from the boxed DVD or the Mac App Store. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user. Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his box.com account in for_iWork'09 > other_iWork'09 items > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

  • How can I delete all email in mail app?

Now I have 10,000 mails in mail app that I want to delete.  I try to use this method "Edit, Mark all as read, Edit, select first message, hold down Move, deselect message, unpress Move" but no luck.  All mail will return to inbox after a second.
PS: now I use iphone 5s and ios7.0.6

There is no way to delete all emails in the inbox in one step.
