One family, three ipods, how do we share one computer?

What do I need to do so multiple ipod users, in the same household, can use the same computer?
The computer recognizes the ipod I used initially when installing the software. I have trouble getting it to recognize the two others.
A related question: All three of us are sharing the same library and playlist file. How can we create separate accounts, using a single installation disc?
shuffle, mini   Windows XP

I am having a similar but slightly different problem. My other half has a nano and it is all working fine. He bought me a shuffle recently and when we plugged it into the computer it recognised it no problem but autofilled from his huge library. Now I cannot delete any of his music, even when I autofill from my playlist I have set up, it looks like it has deleted and replaced with my playlist but when i listen to the shuffle or put it back in it has all miraculously appeared again. My shuffle is constantly full as it will not actually let me delete anything (same problem as autofill, looks like i have deleted everything but it doesnt actually go anywhere and details at bottom of itunes shows shuffle is nearly full with only 6.6mg memory free). I have even tried restoring it which brought in a new list of problems as it wont recognise my shuffle 'cant mount ipod' to restore.
The only thing I can think is that i didnt use the cd i got with my shuffle because i assumed it was the same as the one already installed on the pc for the nano.
Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks !

  • How do I share a computer account with a network account?

So I've had my Macbook for about two years now, and up until now the only account I've had is the one I initially set up for myself. This year for school I had to set up my computer so that I could log into it via a network account. This required me to rename the computer, install an approved school antivirus (kinda unnecessary on a Mac, but whatever), and then set up a new account on my computer, which when connected to the college network, I would be able to log in to. So my problem is that even though I set up that new account as an administrator account, I cannot access any of the files on my original account. So when, for example, I want to run Parallels because the college's printer drivers are not Mac compatible and I want to be able to run the Virtual Machine I already have set up on my other account so that I can install them... It doesn't have access to that virtual machine. I can't find my original Window's OS disk, so I would much rather just port over the Virtual Machine I already have than to buy it again. Does anyone know how to access my original account from a network account?

  • HT2905 How do I share my music that is bought and downloaded on the computer with more than one device?

I have two ipods for two kids, I have purchased the music and it is in my library and currently on one ipod, how do I share it with the other ipod?

The music is on a dell laptop? I told it to sync and it went through the sync process but no files were transferred.  I have new music on both devices and want to update both.  When I tell it to sync the music library it says "this iPad is synced with another iTunes library on Jordan's iMac (a device 8 no longer own).  Do you want to erase this iPad and sync with this iTunes library.".   What do I do about that?

I moved everybodies itunes media folder to the public music folder but when I open itunes I only see that accounts music. We need different itunes accounts. We share 1 computer but we have different user accounts on the computer.

Adding media directly to the media folder does not make it appear in the library.  iTunes doesn't really 'look' at that folder except to go to specific files when you call upon them from a library. You have to drag new content to each user's library, that is assuming each user has their own library.

Uncheck the option to automatically sync new apps to the device.
Other than that, syncing is by device.
Connect one device, tell iTunes what to sync, then sync.
    Connect second device, repeat.
    Connect third device, repeat.

  • Multiple ipods belonging to multiple family members on one computer

How do I keep my family's libraries separate on one computer. I have been checking and unchecking songs each time I sync one of my children's ipods. It is driving me nuts. There has got to be a better way. My husbands library alone so far is 1300 songs. HELP!

When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically three ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library
    b) Creating Multiple Libraries in a single user account
    c) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): iPod - Syncing Music
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page: Adding songs to iPod shuffle - Windows
    Multiple Libraries
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Shift key in Windows when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here:
    Using Windows XP User Accounts
Create A New User Account In Vista

  • How do I set up individual accounts for our families three iPods, while being able to use the same music library?

My family has three iPod touches. They are all different. We want to be able to set up individual accounts for each of them.  When we have them all under the same account, every time we sync, they sync the last person's music and app choices. Help.

Yu can use the same account.  Just in the Music and App and other panes for the iPod check the boxes that say sync only checked item.  You do not want to check sync the entire library.
    See:
How to use multiple iPods, iPads, or iPhones with one computer
For using different accounts also see:
iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer
Yu can use Home Sharing (iTunes>Advancedtab>Home sharing)

  • How do two  ipod's use one computer to download itunes?

New to ipod's/itunes.  Family member already has an itune account set up on my computer to download music.  Can I set up my own account on the same computer to share the itunes program?

Do you want to share all the same media and the same iTunes account/Apple ID with that other family member?
Or do you want to keep your media separate, and/or use a different iTunes account/Apple ID?
If you want to use all the same media and share the same account/ID, just connect your iPod to the computer using the USB cable and perform a sync.
Otherwise, you might be best off setting up a new user account on your computer first, so that you will have two different iTunes libraries. This will allow you and your family member to both use the same computer but have completely different (and separate) data accessible via iTunes and on your iPods or other iOS devices.
