One FME instance for one Capture Card (or Stream)?

Any chance of running multiple instances so FME can encode
multiple FLV streams simultaneously? Assuming FME can Encode from a
Media Gateway (or Media Server) and not from a capture card.

Hi Ravin,
You should be able to run multiple instances of FME right
now. That said, encoding requires a lot of computer resource, so it
may not make sense to do this unless you have a very beefy machine.

Best Sequence Presets for Elgato Capture Card

I record gameplay onto my Elgato Capture Card and Im not sure what sequence's are best for it. I've always used "DV - PAL Widescreen 48Hz" but when I drag my footage in a popup always appears saying "Change Sequence Setting" or "Keep Exsiting Setting". When I click Keep Excsiting the bar turns red and i have to render it all which then makes it all lower quality for some reason. But when I click change sequenct setting it stays the good quality it started off as.
Can someone help explain this as well as the best sequenct for Elgato Capture card?

I clicked cancel after creating a new project and it wanted me to pick a sequence.
So I drag my file, click the on the icon but then what? It gives me all these different options. If i create new sequenct im back where i started with my problem.

I am looking for a capture card or device that I can use through my Macbook Pro and xbox 360 to capture and stream gameplay and other things of that sort, what are you best recommendations?

Recommendations for Video capture card

Been capturing video via firewire through a VX2000. Using it as a A/D converter.
I would like to install an internal capture card in a dual G4 running OS 10.4.8.

OK Steve, first off no one is making PCI capture cards anymore...an there is no HD card made for PCI at all. PCI-X and PCIe only. Second, that computer cannot handle HD captured via a capture card. HDV, DVCPRO HD...yes (pushing it). XDCAM...maybe (pushing it). Uncompressed HD? Heck no.
Not only do you need the HD capture card, but you need a high speed RAID array..and there isn't one made that interfaces with PCI. You gotta get a new machine. The one you are on will handle SD only.
With the new machine, the cheapest option is the Decklink INTENSITY PRO. This has analog ins and outs, installs in the computer (PCIe only), and runs about $400. COmponent, s-video and composite and HDMI connections only. NO SDI or HD SDI...which are the better connections for high end work.
Then you need an HD monitor...which isn't cheap. And again, the RAID array...
But...all this is getting complicated. What format of HD are you intending to work with in the near future? HDV, or HDCAM? DVCPRO HD? XDCAM? Uncompressed HD? This determines everything.
Yes, video is expensive. HD even more so. DV is cheap...HDV CAN be cheap, but get expensive if you want to do it properly.

Capture cards for macbooks

I am looking for a capture card or a device the I can stream live gameplay from my ps3/tv to my mac so I can live stream it to a website like ustream or mogulus. I have been looking for a device but I don't know what works. Does anybody know what im looking for? I'm not sure if video for mac lets me stream it live to a site.

Look at the Canopus ADVC300. Audio and Video go in, FireWire comes out. It also comes with a nice Macintosh application that works flawlessly with iMovie 06 and iDVD 08/09.

Does Logic 9 Support FCP Capture Cards?

Does Logic 9 support FCP video capture cards for audio in an out?
I have a Blackmagic Decklink Extreme, analog ins/outs as well as digital AES/EBU
Didn't have much luck with Logic 8 and the FCP cards so I used my Line 6 GuitarPort but it only has one 1/4" phono input.

I would suggest you ask your question on the FCP forum if you don't get any reply here. Maybe you'll find someone there who can be of help. In any event, i doubt that buying an MBox with PT LE will meet your requirement for FCP capture cards, really!
Apple won't respond to you here. That's not the place. This is a user forum. You could also call a production studio in your area and ask politely to a pro who's working with that stuff on a daily basis. I'm sure you can find someone. Good luck...

HDV capture card

I'm looking for a capture card that support HDV camcorders, for G5.
But it seems that doesn't exist any card: I found only HD or SD capture cards.
The only HDV capture card that is able to native editing hdv video in realtime from hdv camcorders is the canopus EDIUS NX (and canopus velxus 300 in Japan); but the problem is that canopus hdv card is only for PC.
I called canopus and they said me that these cards will be for MAC when Apple will release the new powermac intel-based.
So I read in the apple FCP 5 HD page this:

Final Cut Pro 5 supports native long-GOP MPEG-2 editing for working with camera-original HDV video. Unlike other solutions, Final Cut Pro 5 acquires HDV media via FireWire and keeps it in the original format, transferring it into the system without any generation loss. Output via FireWire back to an HDV camera or deck, or transfer your native HDV to DVD Studio Pro 4 for an end-to-end native HDV workflow."
I know that it is not possible capture a video by firewire from a camcorder without further compressing it. I know that it is for this reason that pro use capture cards (that have dedicated processors for this).
So I think that there aren't HDV capture cards for mac because the hardware companies don't make new cards for only few months, so they're waiting the new intel-based macs. If so, this firewire technology of final cut pro 5 is a compromise for these last times, or is it really like the capture-card processing? and if so, how is it possible capturing a hdv video by firewire without further compressing it?
Do you know about a HDV card for MAC or is it really good using Final Cut Pro HD 5 with firewire ?

It all depends on what type of work you are doing...
Capture Cards are for use with other formats that cannot be captured via firewire: BetaSP, Digibeta, HDCAM, D5. They are also require for outputting to these formats.
Not many broadcast facilities will take a DVCAM master...some will, but most won't. And depending on your client, they may or may not take an HDV master. They may want an HDCAM or D5 master if they are producing HD content. For that you need a capture card and high speed drive RAIDS.
Why do other pricier systems come with capture cards? Because they are sold that way. FCP, out of the box, is ready to edit DV, DVCPRO 50, DVCPRO HD and HDV...FULL RESOLUTION...no compression. Any need to do higher end requires a capture card.

Recommendations on Capture Cards

What would be recommendations for good capture cards and break out boxes?
I've looked at the AJA KONA 3 - I've also looked at the Blackmagic - any recommendations? Also does anyone have a preference with a broadcast monitor that they use. I'm in the stages of revamping my workflow.

In order to give you the best recommendation, we need to know what you do. What workflows are you employing, what kind of footage are you working with, what kinds of things do you need to do, and what is your budget. There are SO MANY options, that cover a wide variety of things. I don't want to do what a lot of people do and say "Kona 3...period. It does everything." Because it isn't true, it doesn't do everything. Plus it might be overkill for your needs. THe Kona 3 works with 2K, and can upconvert, but it is digital in only, have analog sources you are outta luck, unless you shell out more money for converters. And it doesn't have HDMI out. The LHi has HDMI I/O, and analog IO, and upconverts. But wait, you want this to work on a laptop too! OK, Matrox MXO2 line, AJA IO Express...
Like looking at cars...you don't want people to say "Get the BMW 7 Series...it's the best car built" when you a) can't afford that and b) don't need everything it does. You might just need to drive around town. Or, you might have to drive 7 people (you and your 5 kids), which you can't do in a BMW 7 series. Or you might need to haul gear. OK, analogy over.

SDI and RCA Capture Card

im looking for a capture card that can support the Mac Pro and has SDI and RCA input. Ive been looking at blackmagic products but they seem a little hight $1000. I dont need HD just something that can capture both methods. Any suggestions would be great.

I'm in the same boat. I'm not worried so much about SDI as I am RCA. I still have "consumer" clients who provide me VHS tapes to work with. On my G5 I used the AlchemyTV card for the RCA, but now with PCIe, that is no longer an option.

Yes in Device Manager the audio and video have seperate irqs.
Mine are 10 and 17 at the moment.
It seems my SB Live 5.1 doesn't get on with this card and this motherboard. I am having to use the onboard sound.
How compatible is the audigy with this mobo?

What do these drivers have to do with Premiere Elements (any version)?
If you are involved in DV or HDV capture into the Premiere Elements Capture Window, you need a firewire connection.
Please give more details.

I sometimes think differently. I also think like what this person is asking..(although I have installed and administering 5 different RAC databases)
The main doubt of mine is that we create multiple instances accessing the same storage area.
Anyway the controlfiles of all instances will have the same information except the instance_names and instance id's.
Hence I always think , why can't it be possible to to create another instance in the same system and point it to a controlfile which is copied from the other instance.
Why can't the same files be shared between the two instances in a same system ?
I know I am thinking a little bit confusing...
