One Further Question on Jam

OK, You guys helped me out last night, but I have one more question. I downloaded Jam to burn my master disk to comply with Redbook. Do I just take my mixdown GB tracks from iTunes and drag them to Jam & burn? Does this then convert the AIFF to Redbook specs? I tried it and it works, but the files still say AIFF. I tried draging a GB file into Jam, and everytime I do, Jam crashes.
Thanks (again) in advance!

Sounds like it. I've actually never dragged a name from the iTunes window, always the files themselves, but if you're getting AIFFs in the Jam window, it sounds right to me.

    Hello Again Anthony!
"How does one delete an Apple ID?"
    You can't.

  • One more question about upgrading HD

EVeryone was really helpful last time, I have one final question:
Does the name matter for the HD?
I have bought my HD, used SuperDuper and am actually already working off the new HD via Firewire.
Does it matter what I NAME the new Drive? When I used Super Duper I called it "New Startup". The current HD is called "Macintosh HD". Is this a problem?
    Thanks guys!

@Niel: How about localized chars (ä, ß, î, etc.) and such ones that may have a special technical meaning (like /, *, -) ?

  • One more question.

Hey again. I am probably going to go get my iMactoday or tomorrow. But I have one more question. I am aware that Macs are pretty much prone to viruses. But!!! When I download a version of Windows on Bootcamp, will I still have the amazing security, or will it be viruses like owning a PC? Thank you very much!

    HI,
*"I am aware that Macs are pretty much prone to viruses."*
Just the opposite. Windows users are the one's vulnerable to a virus.
You will need anti virus software on the Windows partition.

  • One more question about "snap to" points in audio objects

sorry, one more question people.............. is there a way to set a "snap to" point in an audio region? Can I have logic set a point, or an "anchor" within an audio region that would coincide with the cursor. Once I get the cursor to a bar or a beat, is there a command that would allow a "snap to" point to be created in an audio object? That way I could clean up any "noise" or "chatter" at the beginning of an audio bounce or any audio object, and still have no problem pasting it all over my arrangement. I'm sure it's in here somewhere, but can't find it in the manual..
    thanks again!!!

The anchor point in an audio region can be moved to wherever you want it to be. Let's say you recorded a loud piano bass note and afterwards you trimmed the file so that the attack of this sound happens right at the beginning of the audio region. Your anchor point will now coincide with the begnning of that region. This means that you can place that audio at, say, bar 37 and it's guaranteed that the attack of that sound will play exactly at bar 37. In this case anchor point = position of audio region in the Arrange Window.
Even though you haven't played a MIDI note into the song in order to place this audio region, an "event" is generated for this sound which can be viewed in a special version of the Event Editor which shows the position of all audio regions in the arrangement. Access this by simply clicking on a blank area of the Arrange window and then opening the Event Editor.
So let's say this sound is positioned at bar 37. Open the Event Editor (as described above) and you'll see an event at 37 1 1 1 and the name of that audio region to its right. In this case, the event's position = the start of the sound file = the position of the anchor within that sound file. If you changed the position of that event to 38, or 109, or 3, that audio region will be "triggered" at any of those positions. That sound will always "attack" on a downbeat.
Now let's say you reversed that pinao note in order to create a dramatic swell into a section of your song. (Open the sample editor and use the Reverse function). At this point, the anchor point is still positioned at the beginning of the file! Play back the sequence (from our bar 37) and the audio will play back from bar 37, only backwards this time; the peak of that piano note will be at some point later than 37.
So let's say you wanted to position this sound so that it hits exactly on the downbeat of bar 37. How do you do it? Well, you could always slide the audio file in the Arrange Window and try to line up the attack of the audio waveform with the downbeat of bar 37, but there's an easier way...
Open the sample editor and move the anchor point to the end of the file, coinciding with the peak of the waveform (the piano's attack is now at the end because we reversed the audio). Next, close the sample editor window, click on a blank area in the Arrange Window and open the Event Editor. You'll see that this audio region is still positioned at bar 37, but the actual beginning of the sound file now starts before bar 37. Now when you play back, Logic will start playing that sound file before bar 37, but the audio's peak will be lined up at bar 37.

  • Canon HG20 One Last Question

Before I buy my Canon HG20, I have one last question.
I have seen warnings various places on the net about having a powerful enough computer to work with the data produced by this camera.
I have an iMac 24 2.16 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 MHz Memory, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 card, running OS X 10.5.6 with FCE 4.0.1.
    Am I OK?
    Thanks,
    Jim

That is a perfect machine for AVCHD editing. i use a puny Macbook and I have experienced no problems, everything is very fast. To work with AVCHD, you need an Intel processor and to have at least FCE4. 2GB of RAM is also a good idea to have (I assume that's what you meant you had when you said you had "2 MHz Memory"). From what you have said of your specs, I can't foresee any problems. If a Macbook can do it well, you can expect an iMac to do it amazingly.
Enjoy your new camcorder, I definitely am pleased with my HG21 (basically the same thing, just more memory and a viewfinder).

  • A question about Jam Pack language

    Hi there,
This may be a silly question, but I figure I had better ask it, because when a software package is opened, you own it, right?
I live in Germany, and I was in the local Mac dealer's, looking at the Jam Packs. I want the Symphony Orchestra pack, but was told that the version they had on hand in the shop was only in German. As my OS is in English (as is my version of Logic Express) will my computer have any problem reading and categorizing the Audio Instruments and loops if they are auf Deutsch? I don't want to open up the pack only to find that the Loop Browser can't categorize the instruments/loops, and then not get my money back.
OTOH, a large-ish online music store here in Germany sells the Jam Packs, and gives the same product number on their German and English pages for the same item. This makes me wonder whether or not the Jam Pack will install in the language of one's OS, and that only the documentation is only in German.
Does anyone have any experience with this issue?
    Many Thanks!
    Vielen Dank!
    Glenn

The pianos do sound very nice, although I can't justify €250.00 on that right now. I still need to get a RME FF400, and a FW HDD.
Oh, and probably EZ Drummer, as well, unless someone has had an ugly experience with it.
Oh, and Logic Pro down the road, too.
I keep telling my wife that 'this is the last thing for a while, I promise!'
Something tells me that I had better keep that promise...
    Cheers,

  • Multiple iPods on one computer question

    Hello,
I know this question has been asked already and I've read all the help topics about multiple iPods.
I've tried twice to use two iPods on one computer and it was not as easy as described. I'm just wondering if I'm doing something wrong.
The first time I tried was on a PC running XP with two iPod minis. I had seperate user accounts and it kept erasing all the songs in one account.
The other situation was on a different PC running XP Pro with a shuffle and a 30gig photo.
I had my 30gig for about a year and as soon as I plugged in my shuffle it didn't recognize it and the next time I plugged in my 30 gig photo it froze and I had to end up doing the hard reset for it.
Tomorrow I am about to try a PC running XP with a shuffle, nano, and a video iPod.
I've read the two ways to do it and am going to try the specific playlist option.
I'm worried that as soon as I plug in the second iPod it will freeze and I won't be able to even get to the "iPod Option" Button in iTunes.
The computer is not mine nor are the music devices. I'm doing it for a friend who doesn't understand computers that well. All devices are new, never used.
Is it as easy as the process sounds?
Also the last time I tried multiple iPods was at least two iTunes updates ago.
    Thanks for any help,
    Chris

    Hello!
Let me explain this in detail for you:
    The Do Not Disconnect screen
It is normal for your iPod to say this message to you when you connect it to your computer.
When you need to disconnect it from your computer, you'll first need to eject it.
There are a few ways to eject your iPod; through iTunes, the Safely Remove Hardware program, and "My Computer".
    Through iTunes
Ejecting your iPod via iTunes depends on what setting your iPod is on for.
Connect your iPod. Go into Edit> preferences> iPod. See what setting your iPod is on; "automatic" or "manual".
    Automatic
If you aren't restoring, or updating your iPod, iTunes should automatically eject your iPod from iTunes. If it doesn't, then right-click the name of your iPod in iTunes, and make sure that the "enable for disk use" is un-checked.
    Manual
If you need to eject your iPod from iTunes if the setting is "manual", click the little arrow that's next to the name of your iPod in the left source list in iTunes.
Through the "Safely Remove Hardware" program
Look at the bottom-right corner of your screen, and there's the system tray icons there. If the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon is there, click on it, select your iPod, and click "stop".
    Through "My Computer"
    Go to "My Computer".
Find your iPod's listing there (it's typically "E:" or "F:").
    Right-click it, click on "eject".
For additional information about ejecting your iPod, check this Apple Support articles about it.
    Safely disconnecting your iPod
About the "Do Not Disconnect" and "OK to Disconnect" screens on iPod
Any more questions? I'll be glad to try to help you again.

  • Further questions on de-Time-Machining a Snow Leopard Mac

Please help a somewhat computer illiterate through some questions, if you would:
1."CCC clones a whole OS X boot drive to another drive. Which is hold option bootable."
I understand the first sentence, but not the second -- what is "hold option bootable?"
    2. "Use only one drive per CCC clone so you get the hardware redundancy protection as well.
I had planned to use only one drive, but do you mean I can't clone my "Macintosh HD" drive AND my "1TB" drive to the same volume (2TB)?but I don't understand "so you get the hardware redundancy protection as well." Could you please briefly explain that?
    3. "TM is supposed to be computer illiterate resistant, so your going to have to make sure it's no longer a TimeMachine drive, OS X's "Mandatory Access Controls" may interfere with other methods."
What are "OS X's "Mandatory Access Controls?"
    New questions:.
    4. Is there a way I can get rid of Time Machine from the system entirely?
    5. The "Backups.backupdb" folder on the 2TB drive I want to put a system on (and it won't let me because of Time Machine, even though this drive is no longer listed in TM's preferences as the "backup drive), has 4 Time Machine backups on it right now:
    6-13-2011:
    Macintosh HD
    6-16-2011:
    Macintosh HD
1TB (a bootable USB drive that also has a Drive Genius 3 bootable e-disk partition, which has -- obviously -- a system (10.6.8) and several utilities on it, including Apple's Disk Utility, ProSoft's Drive Genius 3, and Micromat's TechTool Pro 5, all at latest versions.
    6-22-11:
    Macintosh HD
    1TB
    6-26-11:
    Macintosh HD
    1TB
What becomes of these Time Machine backups, once Time Machine -- hopefully --goes away?
And again, as you can see, I've been backing up TWO volumes at each backup -- the iMac's internal start-up drive (Macintosh HD), and a volume called "1TB" (see question 2)
Given my situation: 27" Core 2 Duo IMac, OS X 10.6.8,  with these 3 drives:
internal Serial-ATA, 1TB (named Macintosh HD), Partition Map Type GUID, file system Journaled HFS+, S.M.A.R.T. status verified
USB-to-Serial-ATA-bridge 2TB (named, cleverly, "2TB") drive, Partition Map Type GUID, file system Journaled HFS+, S.M.A.R.T. status not supported
USB 2.0 1TB (equally cleverly named "1TB") drive, Partition Map Type GUID, file system Journaled HFS+, S.M.A.R.T. status not supported, which I often use as a mule to an iBook G4 PPC running OS X 10.4.11. Also listed on this 1TB drive is the Drive Genius 3 eDrive, which takes up 12GB, is writable, has an HFS+ File System, and the BSD name "disk1s3"
How would YOU guys set up this system for maximum flexibility and usefulness?
    Thanks
    Bart

You've been the victim of a frequently unhelpful poster here.  My apologies for his exaggerations and condescension.  May be I can provide some clarity.
CCC can clone both OSX and data-only drives.  Under most circumstances, a cloned OSX drive is "bootable," meaning if you shut down, then start up while holding the Option key, you'll see the Startup Manger, showing all availalbe bootable drives/partitions, so you can select the one you want to start from.  See below for more detail.
If you want to clone two drives to the same external HD, you must partition the external; one partition for each drive.  Post back if you aren't sure how to do that.  And you must do each clone separately, unlike Time Machine.  If this is something you want to do regularly, of course, you can schedule both of them. Try not to do them at the same  time if possible.
    3. "TM is supposed to be computer illiterate resistant, so your going to have to make sure it's no longer a TimeMachine drive, OS X's "Mandatory Access Controls" may interfere with other methods."
What are "OS X's "Mandatory Access Controls?"
He's posted that several times.  He does not understand Time Machine.  I have no idea what he's talking about.
    4. Is there a way I can get rid of Time Machine from the system entirely?
Once it's turned-off, and the backup disk erased, it's effectively gone.  Post back if you aren't sure how to do that.  You can prevent it from asking if you want to use external disks, via a Terminal command.   Post back if you want to do that.
    5. The "Backups.backupdb" folder on the 2TB drive I want to put a system on (and it won't let me because of Time Machine, even though this drive is no longer listed in TM's preferences as the "backup drive), has 4 Time Machine backups on it right now:
Yes, that's just OSX trying to keep folks from accidentaly wiping out their backups.  Once you erase the drive, it will be gone and you can install OSX on it, or whatever you want to do.
What becomes of these Time Machine backups, once Time Machine -- hopefully --goes away?
Once you erase the disk, they're gone.
How would YOU guys set up this system for maximum flexibility and usefulness?
I would not stop using Time Machine.
I would start making "secondary" backups with CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, to a different external HD.  If you're not sure of the differences, see Time Machine vs. Clones and Archives for an explanation and some recommendations.
