One green light instead of two?

Whenever I had used my built-in isight camera (black macbook) in the past both of the green lights around the camera lit up. Today when I started my computer the left green light turned on by itself and I had not opened any applications that uses the camera (the computer was still starting up). I shut down and started again and the light went off. However now whenever I use my camera only the left green light turns on instead of both. How can I fix this?

(1) Check your MacBook's User Guide manual carefully to verify whether there should be one or two green lights. There is only one on my MacBook Pro, but your Mac may be different.
(If necessary, download the manual from http://support.apple.com/manuals/#macbook
(2) Once you know if you have a problem, try all relevant suggestions from Apple's iSight Troubleshooting article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
If your iSight problem occurs in more than one app and more than one user account, the reset suggested there often restores proper function of inbuilt iSight.
However, if after carefully following all the suggestions in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article, your built-in iSight still does not work, and if it does not show as a USB device in your Mac's System Profiler, yours is most likely a hardware problem. In that case, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
(3) If your posted System Info is correct that you are using Mac OS X (10.5.3), unless you have compelling reasons for not doing so, you should update to the latest version of Leopard using the following method:
• Use Disk Utility to repair permissions.  Then download and apply the 10.5.8 COMBO update:
  http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
• Repair permissions IMMEDIATELY again after the restart that finishes the installation.
• Then retest iSight Troubleshooting to see if you still need help from an Apple Technician.
The Combo Updates keep my Macs running so well that this is the ONLY method I now use for any Mac OS update.

    I have one of the first iSights I can confirm worked up until two years ago. At that point I unplugged it and never plugged it back in. It stayed mounted on the computer. Today, I decided to re-plug it back in but I can't get it to stay on.     Do not be concerned that the little green indicator light atop your iSight illuminates for a few seconds and then goes dark when you first connect your iSight or power on your Mac. Neither should you be concerned that you hear a soft whir as iSight attempt to focus either. Both these occurrences are normal.
    On its own, the fact that the green light goes out will NOT prevent your iSight's proper function with applications that can use your iSight. (Test with only one app at a time.)

    You have done some great troubleshooting. Failures on other Macs is particularly informative.

    Is it simply old and unusable now?

    My isight camera green light blinks every two seconds, when I try to use facetime or any other application of isight. And of course, the camera is not working.
    I'm using a Macbook Pro, just bought it a month ago.

    Yes.  Your retailer does.  He can either: (1) determine whether your new Mac needs repair or replacement, or (2) show you how to make your camera work correctly.

    Hi there, I have a Macbook Pro 13 early 2011 i5, and it's stoped working, when it's on the charger the green light comes on, when i pres battery indicator on the side of mbp there is only one green light flashing. when i press power button nothing hapends, mbp wont turn on, i have tried to do the reset, did not helped. Maby someone had, the same problem and knows how to fix it, or knows if its completle dead, and not worth to fix. Thanks

    Take the machine to an Apple Store or an AASP and have them run diagnostics on it. They will give you a quote on how much it would cost to fix your machine. Then you can decide if it's worth repairing or if its just time to replace it.
    I'm assuming that you didn't buy the extended AppleCare warranty? Too bad - if you had the machine would likely be repaired free of charge...

  • MacBook Pro 2011 not charging green light on charger

    Bought my MacBook Pro early 2011, really took care of it, no problem till now. Was using it last night as usual and when plug in the charger this morning there's green light but not charging, usually when charging its orange, the battery level on the side is one green light blinking. Its completely dead and I can't power on. I found a way to power on the machine (press power button for 10sec and plug in charger while keep holding the power button for another 10sec) it powers on using AC but now the battery is not detected and no blinking light on the side and theres X icon on the battery! Have done SMC reset and all still no fix! found this somewhere on the net, apparently to bring dead batteries back to life we have to charge it with 85w charger, is it true? I mean if its true I don't mind getting a new 85w charger, or do I have to change a new battery since it's 3++ years old? Pls Pls Pls I need help big time..

    I have this exact same problem. My internet is awesome when connected directly to my MBP or Apple TV from my Cisco DPC3010 modem. My setup has been working for about 7 months with no problems. I have a somewhat newer airport express whose serial number is C86J40TADV2R. When this one stopped allowing me to connect to Internet I replaced it with my older express that I had set up for network extension and airplay in another room, but the same exact thing is happening. Created a fresh new network on this one, green light, no internet.  Any thoughts on what could be going on?

    You can increase the font size and automatically page view changes. Go to menubar; Reading -> PDF View or Epub Text Size (depending upon the ebook) and increase the size.

    You can open your second profile which is no ability of receiving new mail and export all of messages/contacts/calendar item to a PST file and save it somewhere.
    Then open the first profile, import the privious PST file into this profile to solve the problem.
    Using .pst files in Microsoft Outlook is good way to transfer the data, here is some information how to manage the PST file for your reference.

    Make an appointment with the Genius Bar at your Apple Store.  If they determine there is an issue with your iPad, it will be replaced.

    If your model Macbook Pro is the calibrating model, let the battery calibrate. 
    If not, and are still under warrant or have Apple Care, give them a call and get a case number.  Otherwise, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

    hello i own a 2.2ghz macbook pro, and in the middle of use the machine shuts down as if the battery has died. This is strange to me because when i check the battery life it says i still have 1 to 2 green lights left. The computer also says there is at least 1 hour left on the battery. could i have a bad battery? when i check everyting out in system pref it says that thee battery life is good.. could this be a defective battery? and does apple replace batteries? is it covered under the 1 year or even the 2 year apple care? thanks

    Calibration should be done approximately every two months. Failure to do so for a long period of time can result in the microchip "fuel gauge" in the battery losing the ability to accurately determine the remaining charge, and it will report that there is more charge in the battery than is actually present. As a result, the computer will not initiate Safe Sleep at the proper time, and instead undergo a hard shut down, one of the main causes of hard drive directory damage. Once the battery is in the state resulting from a failure to calibrate, it is not possible to calibrate the battery, and it will need to be replaced.

  • HT4628 my time capsule has stopped working - have a green light but get an error message saying "there was a problem connecting to the server..."

    I noticed this week an exclamation mark on the time machine icon on the menu bar.
    My Macbook, iPad and iPhone all connect to the network but i get "there was a problem connecting to the server..."
    When I open the preferences the time capsule is off but turnign it back on sends me in a loop of selecting the Time Capsule device (which has a nice green light etc) and then getting the error messgae about being unable to connect. I've pulled the plug a couple of times (this has worked in the past) but no change.
    Any advice would be welcome before I try a factory reset or have to return to Apple for repair (the one thing they are offering as the thing is only 5 months old)

    I also noticed that when I go to finder I see two MacBook Air's that are in my name but have the number (2) and (3) next to the name.
    That is a well known bug in Yosemite.
    Try open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Sharing
    Edit back to the correct name for your Mac
    This may...or may not help.  But, it won't hurt.
    The Mac's name may stay stable....or you may see (2), (3), etc again soon.
    Be sure to restart both your Mac and the Time Capsule after you do this.

  • Apple Aluminium Wireless Keyboard - Bluetooth setup sees the keyboard but then green light flashes and it won't pair

    I am desperately hoping someone can help me out here...
    I have a 1st generation aluminium Apple Wireless Keyboard — the one that needs three batteries, as opposed to two — and it refuses to pair with any of my three Macs.
    I was originally using it — for a few years — on an old G4 Mac Mini running Tiger then later on, Leopard.
    I recently sold the Mini but in the days leading up to the sale some strange things were happening with the keyboard ...the number '7' key became non-responsive 90% of the time and the Keyboard Viewer app showed it as being constantly pressed down. Every other key was working 100% ok.
    Fast forward a few days after the sale of my Mini: Now when I try to connect the keyboard to any of my other Macs, the Bluetooth Setup sees the keyboard no problem at all but when I click 'Continue' to go the the pairing stage, the process just keeps failing!
    Whenever I turn my keyboard on I get the expected solid green light for two or three seconds, but after that the keyboard's green light keeps repeatedly blinking until I turn the keyboard off again.
    I did notice that the Bluetooth Setup will only ever see the keyboard in those first few seconds when the light is a solid green ...if I wait until the lights starts blinking and then start up the Bluetooth Setup, it does not see the keyboard at all.
    If anyone can shed any light on this, I would be enternally grateful!!!! ...especially as I was recently made redundant — that's 'Laid-off' for any Americans reading this! — and I would rather not have to buy yet another expensive Apple keyboard when I'm jobless and really should not have to!!!
    I read about a lot of people who's Macs sinply don't see their keyboard, but it's extra frustrating for me as my Macs do see the keyboard but won't bloody well pair with it!
