One https site when loading pages driven by aspx Firefox wants to save as a file; doesn't happen in IE or Chrome.

I have been having problems loading https pages from a bank that I have used without issues for a long time. The bank has recently updated their site and this did co-incide with the problem starting. The issue seems to be related to aspx pages. When I click to go to one of the aspx driven pages Firefox wants to download it as a file. If I do that the saved file comes up as HTML text when loaded. No problems when loading the same pages in IE or Chrome. In addition, the bank's older pages did not have this problem with Firefox Betas.

Thanks, that did the trick, although I had to clear the cookie again after loading the site. Having tte cookie there doesn't seem to bother Chrome or IE, so, is this an issue with the way Firefox deals with this site? I have no problem with other banking sites.

  • Safari crashing all the time when loading pages

About two weeks my Safari (3.1) started crashing really a lot, always when loading pages. I am not aware of having installed any new software, and it is really annoying. Any ideas?
    Thank you!

Firefox is not as fast as Safari 3.1 but it's not that slow!
If your Safari keeps crashing, or if you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed 10.4.11 and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 used Safari 3.0.4 which was not a beta, and now Safari 3.1. If Safari 3.1 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
(Trying to revert to Safari 2 when running 10.4.11 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.0.4 and 3.1 use a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard Widgets etc also rely.)
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Add-on that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens, Saft, AcidSearch and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for Safari 3.1.
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2008-002. Like all security updates, this requires a restart and a permission repair.
As Leopard also uses Safari 3.0.4, much of the above may well also apply to Leopard, but is not guaranteed. Moreover:
Some users have mentioned that the latest Flash Player (v.9.0.115.0) conflicts with Safari in Leopard, and that they have needed to revert to v. 9.0.47. This can be downloaded from here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266&sliceId=1
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    • /Library/InputManagers
    • ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

  • I use Firefox as my default browser but, on any site, keep getting some words underlined in green from which an ad pops up. Really peeing me off! Doesn't happen on IE or Chrome. How can I stop this?

I use Firefox as my default browser but, on any site, keep getting some words underlined in green from which an ad pops up. Really peeing me off! Doesn't happen on IE or Chrome. How can I stop this?

From what you have described, I don't think you are ever going to pick that up as malware at all. But I did look at the site you mentioned in Google Chrome, and in IE9. First thought was maybe Chrome suppresses it, but that would be contrary to trying to convince you that their AdSense or IntelliTXT is "helping" you.
What I did find in Chrome was
"Google Chrome's connection attempt to ad-apac.doubleclick.net was rejected. The website may be down, or your network may not be properly configured."
Since I don't have ad blockers in Chrome or IE, that tells me that my hosts file is doing its job, you can draw you own conclusions. There is something similar displayed in IE, but I can't read what was there because the font-size was too big. for the space. In Firefox with "Adblock Plus" extension it is all wiped out. The hosts file works across the entire system but is directed at blocking malware sites more than advertising. "Adblock Plus" is very good at blocking ads and can do its blocking with more generic filters, and can block a lot of malware from coming in but it can't block at the system level that a hosts file can.
In IE although I can only see "It appea" because the font is too large and text does not wrap it does actually say "It appears you are connected to the Internet, but you might want to try to reconnect to the Internet."
I would certainly suggest installing "Adblock Plus" extension and the "Easylist (USA)" filter subscription -- links are in the links previously provided, and installing the hosts file as well also in the links.
It takes a bit more work to install and maintain a hosts file but the directions should be clear enough.

  • Progress bar when loading page (%)

Hello. I have done an extensive search on this forum but I haven't been able to find exactly how to do this. I want to put one of those progress bars that show the percentage of how the load of the present page is coming along, and how far away from completion it is. For example you click on a page on a site and the page in question takes 45 seconds to 1 minute to load. In that time while the load is taking place the end user sees a progress bar that tells him(her) that the load is 15% along, 10 seconds later it's 25% complete, etc.
There are a couple of pages on a site I built with iWeb that have either a blank or black screen where nothing at all happens until the page is completely loaded. Depending on the browser and the computer this could take between 15 seconds to a couple of minutes. If I have this progress bar then the user can see how far away the load is and decide if they want to wait or not.
I am aware most every browser has this functionality built in. However I am watching out for many of the end users who are not aware of this or where in their browser to look and see how the page load is coming along. I am guessing it's some sort of Java script or HTML Snippet or something like that.
    Thank you for your help.

The average surfer will wait 7 seconds for your page to download. Its up to you to make this happen.
Make sure you keep your pages fairly simple and don't overload them with content.
Optimize your photos, compress your movies and load your audio files as MP3 - preferably using a flash player.
Upload to a server other than MobileMe and optimize your files before upload ...
    http://www.tonbrand.nl/
Doing all this will also give your website a chance to load in Internet Explorer.

  • Issues when loading pages

    Hi all,
I'm experiencing some performance issues when loading a page for the first time. The problem is caused when updating a css file of my own custom theme. When I access a page of the application for the first time, this produces a 404 error but the file truly exists. If I update the page via F5 or I access a different page it loads correctly with times more than acceptable. In contrast, if I update the page via Ctrl+F5 (to clear cache) the same issue occurs.
I performed the same test with another test application with a default theme and working properly.
The configuration I have is Apex 4.1.1 in a Oracle 11.2 and Apex Listener 1.1.4 in a WebLogic server. The file i.war does not pack the images directory directly, this file contains a configuration file which defines a virtual directory, in this way I can modify files on the fly without restarting the listener. If I get this problem and restart the listener everything works right. The configuration file is:
    +<weblogic-web-app xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/weblogic-web-app">+
+<!-- This element specifies the context path the static resources are served from -->+
    +<context-root>/i</context-root>+

    +<url-pattern>*</url-pattern>+
    +</virtual-directory-mapping>+
    +</weblogic-web-app>+
What could be the cause of the problem?

  • Safari slow and freezes when loading pages

Hi I've been having a problem with Safari for the past few months it frequently freezes when loading web pages, sometimes it will eventually load, other times it wont. the blue progress bar in the address bar stops on about 10% with a plain white page it doesn't happen all the time but disturbingly it happens on pages as simple as Google search, not just data heavy sites. other symptoms include having to click links several times to get them to respond and I get the you are not connected to the Internet page when I go to some sites only to try another page from my bookmarks and it will load perfectly.
Any help greatly appreciated its driving me nuts.

  • Browsers Beachballing when loading pages.

I've been having a serious issue lately: my browsers have been hanging when trying to load pages. Safari is the worst culprit (in fact most of the time I have to force quit the application) but even Firefox is bad on occassion.
It happens sometimes when opening a new tab, and sometimes when just launching the browser. I have no idea what could be causing the problem. Generally it loads a little bit/all the page then beachballs for a good minute or so. Sometimes moving into another application and back will help but not always.
I've run all the system updates but doesn't seem like that's fixed it.
I've uninstalled all the plugins but that doesn't seem to help a whole lot.
    Any ideas? Its incredibly frustrating.

    Hello,
*"I've run all the system updates but doesn't seem like that's fixed it."*
Your profile indicates you are running 10.5.2. If that is the case, your system software needs updating.
    Try maintenance.
Mac OS X: How to force background maintenance tasks (logs and temporary items)
    Is there sufficient drive space?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Insufficient available space, can cause performance issues, system corruption, and possible loss of data.
    Check the hard disk.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.

  • Firefox uses all CPU resources when loading pages with lots of images.

I just installed XP, and when I load pages with a ton of images, say, tumblr, Firefox uses ALL CPU time until it finishes loading.
But because of the slowdown, it takes forever to download all the images.
It's not related to my connection, I've got 15mbit downstream.
I have Win7 on a different partition, and I have never had this problem.
As far as I know, all my drivers and XP are up to date.
I could have an old driver lurking, should I be looking at something specific?
I've tried to find something on Google, but I've not found anything really helpful...

I haven't gotten around to installing antivirus (or anything else, for that matter).
If I watch in Task Manager, Firefox.exe goes to 100% as soon as I load the page.
And no, that guide didn't help much. I don't have any addons or plugins yet, this is a new install.
I got a huge slowdown a bit ago, it's because it was using almost 1.5GB of RAM o_o

  • Call branch when loading page

    i want my application to load page1 if item1 = 0 or load page2 if item1 = 1
this process must be called when loading page1
the question is how to call redirect from procedure?
or there are any other way to solve this?
I know that it can be solved by Java code, but i don't know it at all.

Write a onload before header procedure that uses owa_util.redirect_url(...); to redirect to a different page. Search this forum for owa_util.redirect_url for usage examples.

I cannot click on the desired 'loaded page' that sits behind the blank box at all. This happens throughout the day, everyday for the last 3 months. So annoying. I am not computer savvy. • Problem loading pages after update to Firefox 36

After updating from Firefox 35.0.1 to version 36, I am unable to load any pages in Firefox. (My internet connection is fine and I can use other browsers on the same computer.)
I've already tried many troubleshooting routines to fix the problem but none have worked. I've tried the instructions here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-problems-connecting-websites-after-updating
(including troubleshooting my Firewall and proxy settings)
    and here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-cant-load-websites-other-browsers-can
I've also tried the more general and extensive troubleshooting here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems
NONE of the suggestions in any of those pages solved the problem. Opening Firefox is Safe Mode did not help either. I was unable to load pages even in Safe Mode.
After following all of the steps in all of those troubleshooting guides and still failing, I uninstalled Firefox completely. (I followed all official directions on how to uninstall.) Then I re-installed Firefox VERSION 35.0.1. Firefox again worked fine with the older version.
Then I restored my profile from a backup using MozBackup. (My most recent backup was done when I had Ver. 35.0.1 installed.) Everything was still fine; Firefox worked fine and all of my settings were back to my preferences.
Finally, I again tried to update to version 36 - and the same thing happened! Unable to load any pages!
One other thing I've noticed: With version 36 installed, there is something wrong with my Options dialog. The first time I upgraded, I had only blank tabs for "General" and "Advanced"; with my second try, after updating to V 36 my Options dialog has blank tabs for "General" and "Search" (although Advanced is now showing.)
I am going to uninstall again, and again go back to V 35.0.1. But I would like to be able to update to the newest version. What can I do?
(I am a long-time Firefox user, and reasonably computer savvy. I have many extensions installed as I use Firefox as an important tool in my job as a website designer. I have Firefox extensively fine-tuned to my liking to optimize my work-flow.)
    Any help appreciated!

Your message seems to have covered all the normal things we check.
    When you tried using v36, did you have any add-ons? Have you tried;
    '''Windows: 32-bit''' C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -p
    '''64-bit''' C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -p
'''Mac:''' Navigate to '''/Applications/Utilities.''' Open the Terminal application.
In the Terminal application, enter the following:
    /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -p
'''Linux:''' In '''Terminal''' run: firefox –P
For users who have one or more builds from mozilla.org this will not work.
It would be best to have the full path so if you had placed the untared contents
in a folder in /home it would be /home/<username>/foldername/firefox/firefox –P
An easy way would be not to do it in a terminal but in say a launcher since
you have to point it to the firefox script in Firefox folder you can then add –P
on end. You can also have the exact "profilename" after the -P so Firefox
    will start with that Profile.

  • Loaded pages go blank in Firefox 3.5.16, what do I do?

I load a page, and it disappears after loading or during loading.

You appear to have Firefox 3.6.10 installed and in use, so therefore presumably on your hdd.
Without upgrading to the newest major version firefox 4, the latest version available is Firefox 3.6.16 , with Firefox 3.6.17 being the next one; scheduled I believe, for 26th April. So to be up-to-date with Firefox 3.6 you should be trying to upgrade to 3.6.16, which I understand you have already downloaded.
First of all try an automatic upgrade by using:
    * Help -> Check for upgrades
    * as explained here : [[Updating Firefox]]
    * if you have problems the link I provided earlier may help [[software update failed]]
If you are unable to get the upgrade to work you can always just do an install of Firefox 3.6.16. BUT please do NOT use the option that says something along the lines of remove settings, if you do you are likely to loose important stored information, including passwords and bookmarks.

  • Firefox frequently freezes. I can't click on anything (tabs, menu buttons, bookmarks, etc.) The only button that works is the upper right close button which when clicked will ask me if I want to "save & quit." Then I have to restart. Help fixing this?

Frequently when I use Firefox it will all of a sudden freeze. It no longer will accept any user input from the keyboard or mouse. I cannot click on any of the open tabbed pages I have or on my bookmarks or any of the menu buttons. Nothing works. When it happens if it is loading a page it will just freeze in the middle of loading it. I've tried to see if the freezes are caused when it loads certain types of content (java, flash, etc...) but there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to when it happens or with what types of pages. I cannot find a pattern. The ONLY button that works is the close button in the upper right hand corner (X). I can click on that and then Firefox will prompt me with it's regular message asking me if I want to save and quit, quit, or cancel. I'll hit save and quit and then reopen Firefox. It opens my tabs and if I was in the middle of a post it generally will still remember the text I've typed (except Facebook!).
It's beginning to drive me nuts and I'm really hoping to find a fix to this.

You will also notice that your shift key will be emulated. Meaning that keys you will try to press will press but they will act like you are pressing the shift key when you are doing them.
Try this, minimize the firefox window by pressing the tab on your taskbar. After doing that maximize it again. You will magically be able to click any link on your page. When you navigate to a new page however, the entire situation will start all over. My only remedy is rebooting and hoping it doesn't happen again soon.
