One iTunes account; 5 devices

I have an iTunes account, iphone, ipad.  My husband got an iphone and ipad and my daughter an ipod touch. All of these devices are under my iTunes account. If we turn use the iCloud, will our calendars and contacts remain "his calendar" "her calendar" or do they all merge?  I sync my iphone calendar with my work software.  Will those appointments be on my husband's calendar?  I can't figure this out.  Help please?

If you use the iTunes account as an iCloud account for all of you, yes, all of you will have everyone else's information.
What I'd recommend is using the same iTunes ID, then having each person have their own iCloud account so that your data is mixed.

  • One itunes account multiple devices in family - help

I have one itunes account but multiple devices used by the family and I am having conflicts with sharing and face time, imessage etc.
    Listed devices
Me - iphone 5, Ipad mini, Apple Tv, Macbook Pro 13" (just purchased)
    Wife - iphone 5, ipad
Daughter - iphone 4, ipad mini
    Son - iphone 4
    Son - ipad
At the moment we all use one itunes account (mine) we all have our own email adresses etc.
I have itunes U which can be accessed.
The problem is everyone wants to use face time and imessage etc but I keep having conflicts with the devices sharing eachothers messages etc. Plus not eveyone wants to share photos etc so how do you manage that across mulitple devices.
Is it a set up issue or is it easier for everyone to have their own accounts.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You could simply ensure that only the numbers and addresses you wish to use on each device are checked at Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. However this isn’t an ideal solution because the other person can always change these settings from their device and have some fun with you and your contacts.
You’d be far better getting them to delete your account from their device and have them create one of their own. If you are sharing an ID for some other service such as iTunes, you can continue to do so, you only need change the ID for messages.

  • When one or more family members who have been sharing one iTunes account wants to create their own iTunes account can they each upload the music/apps from the shared iTunes on their devices to the new iTunes account?

When one or more family members who have been sharing one iTunes account wants to create their own iTunes account can they each upload the music/apps from the shared iTunes on their devices to the new iTunes account?

Yes. I would clarify your statement about the "shared" iTunes Library though. If you want each iOS device to have its own music library, you should create separate user accounts for them. Read:

  • TS4097 we have multiple users in our family and multiple devices all sharing one itunes account.  i think we are all synced to one icloud account and it is a nightmare....contacts lost, text messags showing up on multiple devises etc.  how do we fix this?

We have our family sharing one itunes account.  we have 3 iphones, 2 macbook airs, 2 ipads and 1 mac.  I am not sure how we even got started on the icloud but somehow we did and everything is a mess.  The ipads are showing the text messages, the contacts are all combined, the apps that my duaghter downloads are appearing on all devices.  how do we fix this so contacts are not shared, messages are not shared and apps are not automatically synced to all devises?

You have two different issues going on.  You are getting each other's messages because you are sharing the Same Apple ID for iMessage.  This can be corrected by going to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive on add the devices and doing one of the following:
Either uncheck the email address shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at" on all of your devices; or
If you want to continue to receive iMessages at this email address on one of your devices, on all of the other ones tap the Apple ID at the top, sign out, then sign back in using a different Apple ID (so all devices will be using a different Apple ID for iMessage).  Note: you can continue to share an Apple ID for purchasing from the iTunes and App stores.  It does not need to be the same as the ID you are using for iMessage, FaceTime and other services.
The second issue is that you are sharing the same iCloud account on your devices.  When you do this any data you sync with the shared iCloud account such as contacts is merged and will appear on all devices connected to the account.  To fix this you both need to have separate iCloud accounts (you can continue to share the same Apple ID for purchasing from the iTunes and app stores).
First decide which device(s) will be keeping the current iCloud account.  On the one(s) that will be changing accounts, if you have any photos in photo stream that in your camera roll or backed up somewhere else that you want to keep on the device(s), save these to the camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this device, not from iCloud.  The device(s) that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On [iDevice].  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a separate Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.  Repeat this process for all the devices that you need to migrate to new accounts.
When finished, to un-merge the data in your accounts you will have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (such as deleting the other person's contacts from your account, and vice versa).

  • We have three Ipads in our house.  We have one itunes account with multiple devices like two Iphones and Apple TV.   My question is about our three Ipads.   How can I set up the imessaging and facetime on all three devices while only using one Itunes acct

Okay.  We have three Ipads in our house with only one Itunes account.   When I go into imessaging and facetime on each of the devices, it wants to start switching my wife's cell phone and then the three emails associated with each Ipad to the contact information for all of the Ipads.    As of this morning, only the imessaging and facetime are turned on my wife's iphone and ipad.   My kids imessaging and facetime is turned off.     Do you really have to have an itunes account for each device to make then work???    Any help would be very much appreciated.

There is only one solution. Each user must have their own separate user account. All of their respective data would be contained in their separate user accounts. This also means each will have a separate iTunes Library. If you all use the same third-party apps, then each will have to purchase their own copies under their own Apple IDs. Some data sharing is possible. See:

I have multiple phones and iPads and all are linked to one iCloud account and one iTunes Account.  I want to keep the same iTunes Account so I can share music, etc., however, I want each device to have its own iCloud account.  Any help on how I can I do this?

You'll need to create an Apple ID for each device. Use the new Apple ID for FaceTime, iMessage and iCloud on the device. Use the original Apple ID for Settings>iTunes & App Store.

  • HT4436 we have 5 devices on one itunes account how do I give them each their own icloud account and still share the itunes account?

we have 5 devices on one itunes account how do I give them each their own icloud account and still share the itunes account?

You need a unique AppleID for each iCloud account.  So grab some free gmail, hotmail, aol, yahoo or whatever email addresses to make five new AppleIDs.  Now, everybody make an iCloud account for themselves, and keep the existing shared AppleID and password just for use in the iTunes and App Stores.  You can also each use your own unique AppleIDs to make iMessage accounts and keep those separate as well.

  • One iTunes account, paid app on 25 devices?

I have 25 iPod Touch 4G which are to be used as a project we're running for a mobile solution in our HQ. We have set these up using 1 iTunes/Apple ID and put FREE apps on them.
My question is, if we wanted to deploy a PAID app to all devices, how many times do I need to purchase the app? I have read that a PAID app can be put on 5 devices per purchase against 1 iTunes account. Is this true?
    So ... would it be
25 purchases (1 for each device)
5 purchases (using 5 devices per purchase)
1 purchase (and deployed to all 25 devices)
Again, all this will be using one iTunes account.
Please could I get an official answer on this?
    Thanks
    Jim

Unless all of these devices are going to be used by one person (unlikely), you need one license for each device. Here are the official terms:
(ii) If you are a commercial enterprise or educational institution, you may download and sync an App Store Product for use by either (a) a single individual on one or more iOS Devices used by that individual that you own or control or (b) multiple individuals, on a single shared iOS Device you own or control. For example, a single employee may use an App Store Product on both the employee's iPhone and iPad, or multiple students may serially use an App Store Product on a single iPad located at a resource center or library. For the sake of clarity, each iOS Device used serially by multiple users requires a separate license.
Since you can buy only one license per iTunes Store account, you will need twenty-five iTunes Store accounts and purchase the app through each one, unless you're in the US and hence can use the Volume Licensing Program:

  • Is there a limit to number of devices you can simultaneously sync to one itunes account?

Is there a limit (set by itunes or elsewhere) to the number of devices you can simultaneously sync to one itunes account/PC/Mac? Using USB hubs or other sync/charge devices?

iTunes can only sync one device at a time.
There is no limit to the number of devices you can sync consecutively with the same library.
Each device can hold protected content from up to five accounts.
Up to 10 computers and iOS devices can be authorised for automatic downloads of an Apple IDs available purchases (some items may only be downloaded once).
Up to five computers can be authorised to each Apple ID at any one time.

  • How to FaceTime and iMessage on multiple apple devices with one iTunes account

We recently received iPad 2's for Christmas and was looking for some advice on how to FaceTime and iMessage on multiple apple devices with One iTunes Account (Apple Id).  I have created or attached other e-mail addresses to our apple id but do not know how to use them on the new devices.  Our home MacBook Pro uses our main apple id for FaceTime.  The iPads have been setup with the main apple id w/o being able to use FaceTime and iMessage.
    Please Help...
I appreciate the help and support.

    P and V-
If you are trying to connect to someone with a different Apple ID, I think all the devices should work, but one at a time.
The problem is when you try to connect between two with the same Apple ID.  Once the calling device tries to make the connection, it finds the second device to be "busy".  That is where each needs to use a different E-Mail address when setting it up.
On iOS devices, when you press the Home button to exit an App, the App may still be active in the background, even when the device is sleeping.  If FaceTime or iMessage is merely being active that way, it may be enough to "tie up" the E-Mail address.
From the Home screen, double click your Home button.  You will see a list of recent Apps along the bottom of the screen.  Press and hold on one of them until they start to wiggle.  You will then see a red minus sign on each.  Pressing the minus sign will remove an App from the list, and stop it from working in the background.  (Click the Home button to stop the wiggling, and again to hide the recent Apps.)

  • How to use multiple devices on one itunes account

I have one itunes account, three iphones and one itouch.  How do we use the same itunes account be not share data, pictures, contacts etc?

Connect the iOS device, select it from the left column under "devices" and just don't check those items in iTunes:
Un-check the appropriate boxes for Contacts, etc. You can set these individual preferences for each iPhone and iPod Touch.

connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
