One iTunes account on multiple iphones?

My wife and I will soon be making the switch to iPhones and are wondering how we will both be able to use our media. We have 1 itunes account (using my email) that we both purchase music and videos on. If we both get iphones will we be able to both sync to the things we have bought?

Yes. You can each sync any and all media and apps provided they are both activated with the same iTunes account you're using. You will want to be careful if you are syncing contacts to address book. Potentially creating groups for each of you to use and only syncing the appropriate group to each phone unless you want to mix your contacts. Ditto iCal.

Can I use one itunes account for multiple users and multiple devices?

The iTunes EULA, as I understand it (I'm not an attorney )for Apps is basically that one person can use an App multiple devices, or multiple people can use an App one device..so one to many or many to one, but not many to many....

  • One itunes account for 3 iPhone 4

I am using 3 iPhone 4 in my family. Is there any problem for using one itunes account for 3 iphones?

No, you can sync as many devices as you want to the same iTunes account, there is no limit. You can have the same content on each device or different content, the choice is yours. iTunes will keep track of the content on each device, including separate backups.

  • I started with one itunes account for my iphone and ipad, and now have a second ipad linked to the same itunes.  Can I set up a new itunes account for one ipad without losing what has already been downloaded on it?

I started with one itunes account for my iphone and ipad, and now have a second ipad linked to the same itunes.  Can I set up a new itunes account for one ipad without losing what has already been downloaded on it?  I want to stop my husbands downloads appearing on my ipad, and vice versa.

A much simpler solution would be to go into Settings > Store and turn off Automatic Downloads

  • We have three Ipads in our house.  We have one itunes account with multiple devices like two Iphones and Apple TV.   My question is about our three Ipads.   How can I set up the imessaging and facetime on all three devices while only using one Itunes acct

Okay.  We have three Ipads in our house with only one Itunes account.   When I go into imessaging and facetime on each of the devices, it wants to start switching my wife's cell phone and then the three emails associated with each Ipad to the contact information for all of the Ipads.    As of this morning, only the imessaging and facetime are turned on my wife's iphone and ipad.   My kids imessaging and facetime is turned off.     Do you really have to have an itunes account for each device to make then work???    Any help would be very much appreciated.

There is only one solution. Each user must have their own separate user account. All of their respective data would be contained in their separate user accounts. This also means each will have a separate iTunes Library. If you all use the same third-party apps, then each will have to purchase their own copies under their own Apple IDs. Some data sharing is possible. See:

  • Can you use apps from one computer/iTunes accounts on multiple iPhones?

    Hello All!
I have been using a 3G since they were released on and syncing it to one computer and one iTunes account. My wife now wants an iPhone as well. I know what Apple's policy is on music and video, but what about app sharing. *If the phone is synced with the same computer and uses the same iTunes account (on the iPhone to login), will she be able to free access to all of the applications I have previously downloaded or will she need to pay for all non-free apps?* I couldn't find an answer in the Apple knowledgebase (except for the iPhone software itself, not the 3rd-party App Store apps).
I would appreciate a quick answer, as we're thinking of picking one up tomorrow. I'd appreciate the help and thanks in advance Happy holidays!

Thanks all! I'm glad to have that answered. Apple said they couldn't answer it! Love those tech/sales support people for iTunes!!!

  • How do i sync one itunes account with two iphones, one ipod touch, and a nano?

I need help in how to sync the one itunes account we use as a family with the two iphones my wife and i have and an ipod touch that my son has and a nano that my daughter has. Please help.

That article applies, as far as I can tell, to all things called iPod X where X can be nano, touch, classic etc.
We don't have two iPhones in the family as yet but as I understand it each device can have separate settings for syncing calendars and contacts. For example my iPhone syncs these over the air with the Exchange server at work so if/when my wife gets an iPhone it would be easy to have hers sync to our computer
To make sure your apps don't inadvertently merge turn off Automatically sync new apps from the apps tab when you connect your device.
The Apple support document How to use multiple iPods with one computer suggests a number of ways for managing the media content. I use method two (Sync with selected playlists) with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which users should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
    e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
    etc.
I currently manage our family's five iDevices using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their device. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed and need rebuilding. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.

  • How do I have more than one iTunes account on my iPhone?

Having issues trying to help a customer add both her iTunes accounts onto her iPhone from her MacBook. Any ideas?

It isn't possible to have more than one iTunes account on your phone.

  • Can I use one itune account with two iphones

I now have two iphones can you have one itune account and keep your contacts separate, I dont care about apps

Yes you can, iTunes will identify your phone by serial number and phone number.
Best if you can to set different name to your phone under SETTINGS/GENERAL/ABOUT/Name and to name like e.g. iphone3G and the other iPhone 4s.
So everytime you sync, itunes will backup your phone's contents and data and you will be able to identify from the backup files correctly in future.

  • How can I create additional IDs but use one iTunes account on multiple devices to purchase music?

Is it possible to have a "family" iTunes account that we all share but have a different Apple ID for 2 daughter's iPods and a different Apple ID for mom's iPhone?

Only iTunes running on a computer can be authorized to use more than one Apple ID. I don't know what the limit is if there is one.
iOS devices* can only be configured to use one Apple ID for use with the iTunes Store. (However, a separate Apple ID can be used for iCloud services like mail, calendar, contacts etc., but that is a separate issue.)
Home Sharing can only be configured to use one Apple ID at a time so if you want to use Home Sharing to connect an iOS device to an iTunes library or to connect multiple computers to an iTunes library you can only do it with one Apple ID.
So, with all that in mind, yes you can create separate Apple IDs for everyone but it will affect what you can do with the apps and media you purchase from iTunes. If everyone shares a family account then there will be no restriction on who can play, install or share the media or apps. If you create separate accounts there will be restrictions on what can be shared or installed on the various devices.
A family will benefit from sharing a family account that everyone has access to. If you have parental concerns about restricting access to certain apps/media for younger children than a separate account shared by the children may be the answer.
*iOS devices are iPod Touchs, iPads, iPhones and Apple TVs.

  • One iTunes Profile over multiple iPhones

I have three iPhones that share 1 iTunes account.  I'd like to have all three iPhones to have the exact same folders, apps, contacts, pictures, movies, etc. so that everything looks the same no matter which phone is used.  How do I do this?  Everything I find tells me that each phone can be indvidualized but my family finds it confusing to have to search for things on different pages/folders, etc..
    Thanks in advance

You could either setup every phone manually so it looks the same, but the more efficient way is to set up one phone the way you want, create a backup, and then restore the other two phones from that backup.

  • How do I use one iTunes account with multiple macs?

I have a Mac mini and am getting a MacBook Pro.  I want to use my iTunes library that currently resides on my mini on my MacBook as well without jacking up anything.
I have an iPhone, an iPad Air and a classic iPod that are all sync'ed to the iTunes on the mini.

    Hello blcampbell
There are many different ways to handle this and the easiest way is to migrate you data is to use Migration Assistant. It will migrate not only your music but also other content from your Mac Mini. If all you want is music, you can always just select that as an option. The article below will guide you through that option plus a few others if you are unsure how you want to proceed.

  • One itunes account multiple devices in family - help

I have one itunes account but multiple devices used by the family and I am having conflicts with sharing and face time, imessage etc.
    Listed devices
Me - iphone 5, Ipad mini, Apple Tv, Macbook Pro 13" (just purchased)
    Wife - iphone 5, ipad
Daughter - iphone 4, ipad mini
    Son - iphone 4
    Son - ipad
At the moment we all use one itunes account (mine) we all have our own email adresses etc.
I have itunes U which can be accessed.
The problem is everyone wants to use face time and imessage etc but I keep having conflicts with the devices sharing eachothers messages etc. Plus not eveyone wants to share photos etc so how do you manage that across mulitple devices.
Is it a set up issue or is it easier for everyone to have their own accounts.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You could simply ensure that only the numbers and addresses you wish to use on each device are checked at Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. However this isn’t an ideal solution because the other person can always change these settings from their device and have some fun with you and your contacts.
You’d be far better getting them to delete your account from their device and have them create one of their own. If you are sharing an ID for some other service such as iTunes, you can continue to do so, you only need change the ID for messages.

connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
