One little frustration with comments

in numbers when I enter a comment for a cell I then always hide the comment leaving the little triangle in the top right corner. Occasionally when I want to reduce or delete an opened comment I have a heckuva time opening it. I try clicking all over the triangle in the corner and it opens the comment but when I drag the cursor over the comment it reduces again and won't stay open. Is there a better way of getting a comment to open? I've even tried figuring out precisely where the arrow should be over the triangle to get it to open and - frustration!!

You're describing normal behaviour in this sentence (for the situation you describe immediately before it): "If I try to take the cursor over the comment it vanishes before I can click on the comment."
If the mouse pointer is the white plus sign and is within the bounds of the commented cell, the comment field will be displayed as shown for cell B4 below, without the bar containing the Minimize and Delete buttons. If you click at this location, the cell will be selected, but there will be no change in the state of the comment field—it's display will continue to be temporary and will vanish as soon as the mouse pointer leaves the bounds of that cell.
If the mouse pointer is over the cell's Comment Marker, it will display as the black arrow (see cell C2). If clicked at this location, the comment box will display as shown, with the bar containing the Minimize and Delete buttons, and the display will persist until it is dismissed by one of the actions described earlier.
It's very easy to move the mouse (or your finger on a trackpad) slightly as you are clicking. If the pointer is not within the bounds of the Comment marker on mouse-up, then you will still see the temporary display of "Another comment here" attached to B4.
The way to avoid 'wasting a lot of your time' is to s l o w d o w n, make sure you are in the right location, then click without moving the mouse.

Has anyone found a way to click this or click that and make the ringer come back alive after it has quit working?
I'm an Apple geek. Bought my first Mac in 1984. Bought my current PowerBook 5 months ago. I lost count of how many between.
I have 3 ipods. Stood in line for 2 hours to get my iPhone. I attend Apple Anonymous meetings every Weds night to try and cure my addiction. To no end.
Love my iPhone. But, I am starting to be a bit flustered. Two weeks, $650 phone, $200 Sprint cancellation fee, $150 first ATT bill. And my phone has only rung 3 times... Friday night and Saturday morning. Then the speaker phone for rings, alarms, and iPod dropped to about 10% of normal volume. It came back on Sunday after I played with some settings. Went away again. Came back partially on Weds after doing a complete RESTORE.
Now tonight, I did a RESTORE with no change. Took it to the Apple Store and the Genius told me it was a known software bug and "apple is working on it" which I'm sure they are.
But, I must admit i was disappointed... thought for sure there would be some kind of update to cover the worst bugs this week.
Unless the phone is in my pocket where i can feel the vibrate... i miss all calls.
And yes, I took all the plastic off. And yes, all volume controls under settings and the rocker switch are dialed up to 10. (I tried to make it go to 11, but I think I have to download "Spinal Tap" to make it do that.)

Thanks. Yup, Ring volume is set to FULL. Ringtone set to Marimba. I've tried others. When you set the Ringtone, you can hear it, but its VERY faint. Not enough to hear more than 3 to 4 feet away in a silent room. Which is what it sounds like when it rings now.
Also, the toggle switch is set to on. Once when I flipped that switch off, then back on, the volume came back to about 50 or 60% for a couple of hours. Then went soft again.
Is that what you mean by ringer switch?

I am not the only photographer with this issue check out all the chatter about it.

This happens every single time a new camera comes out from one of the two big camera makers. Nikon and Canon do not send preproduction units to Adobe, so Adobe has to go out and buy a D750 or whatever from the store to test and profile it before they can update Lightroom. They can't get one earlier than you and I can. The profiling is quite an extensive operation. Other camera makers do send preproduction units, use dng, or do the profiling in-house and there you often get support right from release. If camera makers would finally embrace an open raw format such as dng, this whole problem would be gone but both Canon and Nikon seem to think they live in an upside-down world where their clients only use their software.
Usually the dead period only lasts a few weeks but it is frustrating nevertheless. My only advice is to not buy a new camera at the day of release and expect to have third parties to support it. You definitely should not be buying these cameras right away if your business depends on it. Aperture, Capture One, etc. have the exact same problem. No third party (read non-Nikon in this case) will support the camera from the release date. Some are quicker than other adding support. Adobe is somewhere in the middle of the pack in this respect. Nobody outside of Adobe knows when an update comes out. Could be tomorrow, could be a few more weeks or a month. They might jump straight to Lightroom 6 and never add direct support to LR 5. Sometimes they will first bring out a beta version of dng converter that will convert the new camera's nef files to dng, which will work fine in the current Lightroom before updating Lightroom itself.

I'm frustrated with the bookmarks. I so long to be able to right click on any bookmark and choose to have them in alphabet order. Would also like for the little icons to go away. Never been able to figure out how to do this the MAC way. Help.

After the release of Firefox 29, several people noticed that after using the Customize feature, most items on the right-click menu for the Bookmarks menu on the menu bar became ''grayed out'' and unusable until you closed and started Firefox back up again. That seems to still be a problem for me in Firefox 36.0.4, so if you used Customize, that could be the explanation.
You still should be able to click and drag bookmarks around the menu even with the broken right-click context menu.
And if it's easier than restarting, the context menu still works in the Bookmarks Sidebar (Ctrl+b to open/close) and Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+b or "Show All Bookmarks").

IWeb issues with comments

I have read through many posts about this issue but have not been able to resolve my problem. I have been running my iweb site with a domain since the beginning of the year. I have had issues with the comments form not loading properly before but it has always fixed itself. The problem I am having currently has been going on for almost 10 days now.
I have reloaded my site many times. I have uploaded it without comments, and then with comments again. I have checked my DNS hosting and it is being routed to web.me, I have checked mobileme and my domain is web.me, I have checked iWeb and it has @me.com. Yet, when the comments form loads it goes to mac.com. I have tried this on my hubby computer and it seemed to load fine, yet on my computer and those of some of my friends, have said they are unable to load.
I am very frustrated and don't know where to head next. I am computer savvy but not enough to get into code and all that. Is anyone able to help me?

Same problem here. The form to add comments on an iWeb blog published on MobileMe is broken. It doesn't load all the objects correctly, and site visitors cannot comment. I wonder if it's some kind of server-side error. When using Safari's JavaScript debug console, I get this:

Hello, sounds like Video card and/or heat problems.
Have you blown the dust out lately? Let it cool for an hour or so.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode).

I really need some help with drivers for my Aud 2 ZS Plant card as i am very frustrated. A couple of months ago I reformatted my HD and subsequently re-installed all my drivers. When I was ready to install my soundcard drivers\software I could not find my installization disc as I moved to a new place 6 months ago and I guess they got lost in the unpacking. Since then I have tried to find drivers for my card and in the process have?used 3rd party drivers ie. KX, PAX, and daniel_k but could not get them working or they (KX) were hard to understand. Anyway, I am to the point now that I just want to have sound with functioning software where I can get back to doing some hobbyist home recording as I did before with orginal drivers. In saying that, can anyone please point me in the direction to find the most up to date drivers for my card? Iam running WIN XP Pro sp3. I am to the point now that I want to take the card and front dri've bay out of my system, chuck it, and go and buy a $20.00 generic card.
Help would be much appreciated.

If you want the latest drivers I'd use Dan K's if I were. None of the old software works with the latest drivers so you're kinda stuffed. Dan K's are based on the 2.8.000 drivers which are the second to latest drivers available. Don't use the 2.8.00 drivers - they cause more problems than they solve.
Before installing any more drivers/software it might be an idea to make sure there's nothing left of any previous drivers you've tried to install. Could be what's causing the problems.
This is how I remove my drivers. May seam a little convoluted but in your case it may prove useful to be as thorough as possible.
You'll need Driver Sweeper, and CCleaner, 7Zip and Dan K's Audigy Support Pack 2.0 (if you don't already have them).
Download these and install; Driver Sweeper, CCleaner and 7Zip.
Now you need to extract all the files out of Dan K's support pack, which should be an *.exe file. You need what's inside that *.exe file. After installing 7Zip, you should see a new 7Zip options menu when you right click on files or folders?
Click on it and then select Extract files to Audigy Support Pack... or something similar. Don't just select Extract files.
Inside the new folder that should have appeared after 7Zip extracted everything, you'll see another folder named Drivers.
Copy this folder to your desktop.
Now reboot and start Windows in safe mode.
Click Start then Run and type cmd.exe to open a command prompt, then type (minus quotes):
" takeown /f C:\Windows\*.cdf " and hit enter, then:
" cacls C:\Windows\*.cdf /G *insert your logon name*:F " and select Y and hit enter again.
You can now close down that command prompt window.
Go in to the Drivers folder you copied to your desktop and run Setup.exe and this should appear:

Select the same options as above and click OK and let it do it's thing - when it says reboot your PC click No or Cancel.
Now run Driver Sweeper and do a scan for all Creative drivers then click Clean.
Don't worry if it says things like file doesn't exist or some other error msg. It'll still get a few things.
No load up Add or Remove Programs (personally I prefer Revo Uninstaller) and remove anything related to Creative.
Finally load CCleaner and scan/clean your registery.
Reboot back in to normal Windows.
And that's it. A tedious process I know, but it's the only way I've found of properly stripping CLs drivers out.
You'll know if it's worked because when you now go and install Dan K's pack the installer should just run straight through. When there's still driver remnants the installer always says it's found previous drivers and need to uninstall them and reboot.
tbh I recommend running through this process regardless of wether or not your choose to stick with the old drivers or go with the newer ones.
Creative's drivers are infamous i'm afraid and at least after this your PC should be relati'vely clear or remnants.

Total frustration with IOS 8.0.2 on iPhone 4s, what is going on?

PLEASE HELP!! Total frustration with IOS 8.0.2... what a nightmare. Can't get important apps to work.. that I use everyday... can't connect to WIFI... Phone crashes repeatedly (4s) ... it hangs... it takes 5-10 minutes to boot.... battery drains very quickly.

Basic Troubleshooting Steps when all else fails
- Quit the App by opening multi-tasking bar, and swiping the App upward to make it disappear. (For iOS 6, holding down the icon for the App for about 3-5 seconds, and then tap the red circle with the white minus sign.)
- Relaunch the App and try again.
- Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
- Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
- Reset All Settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings)
- Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)

You installed a variant of the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
This malware has many variants. Anyone else finding this comment should not expect it to be applicable.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.2c232f1e4d12129e.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.

The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
          Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
          Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Frustrated with 70 Hour Weeks: Lazy or Legit Issue

So for a little over a month, I have been working 70 hour work weeks (I am salaried so no extra pay), and I am becoming very frustrated with the work week due to lack of free time and the fact that I am the only one in the office for countless hours. Most of the extra hours are a result of being understaffed and project deadlines being moved up by several months to a whole year. The 70 hour weeks do not show any signs of ending soon, and I have expressed my concerns to my boss. I usually get a reply that these kind of hours are to be expected for people in IT, and that I should just get use to it. I was wondering how other SpiceHeads feel about long weeks and no extra pay. Are my concerns warranted or am I being lazy with my frustrations with 70 hour work weeks.

Has anyone used the Unifi Outdoor AC AP's yet. I just got one in today for install at a Marina tomorrow on Lake Ontario and I can't believe how big this thing is. I've every type of indoor unit they sell and a few of the point to point units but never any outdoor AP's. Here is a picture to get some perspective on the size.
I was thinking it was maybe a little bigger then some of the large point to point units. Was I ever wrong it's the size of a cinder block face. Thankfully I don't need to worry about space where I'm mounting this but I thought I would post this in case anyone else is looking at these and is wonder size. I will come back tomorrow and post how the install went and how the performance. So far I've got it on my cloud controller and was getting strong signal outside with the unit sitting in my basement.

Frustrated with photocasting

I have several frustrations with photocasting. Feedback would be appreciated.
#1 - I am beginning to think I misunderstood photocasting. The whole reason I got it was related to the advertised ease of use for sharing photos with pc peeps. That hasn't happened yet. Haven't been able to share even one photo yet. My end is easy, their end is not. I'm dealing primarily with non-technical people, those who are simple email users on windows machines. The whole RSS deal is proving to be a real issue. New program, have to download, configure, make it work type of deal. They are aggravated and feel I've made things much harder than before when I used yahoo photo website. I have wanted to leave the yahoo deal because of the slow and difficult process of uploading TONS of photos. Yet, they allow for free space and unlimited space, I just have to deal with the tedious process. But at least it works for all. Can't say that so for for the much touted photocasting.
#2 - I've been setting up my iPhoto folders and such, broadcasting them out without announcing them. I wanted to get them set up and organized and then slowly start sending out announcements. Now, when I select a folder that has already been established for a bit, I select the folder and click photocast. It only gives me the option to stop broadcasting the folder. No options for photocasting exists. I've only been able to announce with new folders. What am I doing wrong?
#3 - Anyone else feel that this is easy for mac users, but the degree of difficulty for non-techie windows users isn't clearly stated? It is advertised clearly as an easy solution equally for pc/mac users. I had no idea this would prove to be a new headache. My family is now aggravated with me. I boasted about how Apple had a really cool solution. Not to mention, I maxed out the memory options and dumped some serious change into the drain (at this point). I have one techie windows friend. I know he will eventually figure it out, but he's finding he's having to go through additional measures and steps. He started on the process of getting an RSS set up, but has kind of tired of the whole process.
I feel a bit ripped off as I have no use for .mac if the photocasting doesn't work. So far, haven't had one member of my family view even one pic despite hours of effort of dealing with iPhoto and them over email.
Anyone else exprience this general problem in integrating photocasting with non-tech windows family members?

I had very similar frustrations, and while not even near resolving them, I've made some progress and kind of seen the bigger picture here.
1. I've found it really is pretty easy with other Tiger/iLife '06 users. Duh. That leaves about 90% of computer users with no hope. My friends complained that they couldn't view photocasts on Windows. Fortunately the solutions started presenting themselves in shades - Firefox, via its "New Live Bookmark" command under Bookmarks, can display the photocast contents, sans comments, titles and thumbnails - new tabs with full size photos. A friend told me of a website (sign in with google ID) that shows photocasts with titles, comments and slideshow. Then the beta IE7 appears to support RSS feeds like the ones .Mac generates for Photocasts.
I doubt that Photocasting is so big that browsers are progressively starting to change just to support it. I think the non-Safari clients ended up being slow to support the kind of RSS feed Photocasts generate.
2. I think if you want to reannounce the photocast, you have to show the info panel in the bottom left corner, and you'll see a URL there. Clicking on the URL re-generates the dialog that assists you in announcing the photocast. I discovered that when I had the same problem you're seeing.
3. Yes. My current opinion is that the "industry standard" RSS for photocasts wasn't adopted fast enough by others, and Apple didn't really look into its proliferation or the feature might have been held over till IE7 shipped (whenever...)
For the moment, try Firefox live bookmarks, or IE7. There is a web-based way to do it but I don't remember it right now. All solutions are not trivial enough, in my personal opinion.

Replace one itunes account with another

I have the itunes application downloaded on my laptop but i recently made another itunes account and i want the new one to be on the Itunes application. So i uninstalled the application thinking that if i downloaded it again it would ask me for an account. Except all it did was restore the old account. I am wondering if anyone knows how to replace one itunes account with another. If you know anything that can be useful comment.

All purchases remain tied to the account used to buy them, but you can authorize iTunes to multiple accounts and put protected content from up to five on your devices. Generally best to stick to one account if possible. More so once you get to iOS devices as managing app updates over multiple devices is a chore.

Using one external drive with two computers

I have been trying to figure this one out but I seem to be stuck. I have a desktop PC running XP and a notebook running Vista.
I am using Lightroom 2 on both machines. I would like to move the external USB harddrive from machine to machine and use the same catalog stored on the external drive. I am having a little problem with this because the two machine assign a different drive letter to the USB drive when I attach it. Has anybody tried doing this?

With the drive hooked up, in Windows Control Panel go to Computer management. There you can assign a drive letter to the external drive. Use one at the other end of the alphabet (PQRST etc) so you don't clash with inbuilt drives etc.
I do exactly this and have no problems. I also have left my backups going to my C drive so the backup is on a different drive to the working drive.
You can also just hold down the shift key on booting LR and manually select the correct catalogue or you can double click on the catalogue and LR will open it.
