One MAC PRO 2 displays

Is there any way of having one MAC PRO and having 2 displays connected to it... one directly and the other one via WIFI (I already have a TIME CAPSULE)... OR anybody can help how I can have one tower (maybe I need an XSERVER) and 2 displays connected to it... one directly again and the other wifi... As usual thanks for the great advice I get here..

"WI-FI' does not support monitor connection, need to find DVI extension cable.

  • Severed connection when Mac Pro's display sleeps

So I have a Mac Pro and a Macbook connected in a network via the ethernet I use to access the internet. Shared some files out, everything works fine and dandy.
    BUT,
when the Mac Pro's display goes to sleep the connection is lost. I noticed the Mac Pro takes considerably longer to awaken it's display then does my Macbook, might this have something to do with it - that is, does the entire comp just go to sleep with it's display?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My approach would be to first remove any non-apple USB devices. Unplug any monitors from the USB connections and other USB peripherals. Restart. If it's still there, start from a second account. Create one if you don't have one. If it disappears then it's a software issue in your admin user directory. Still there? Start from your DVD. If it's still there then it's hardware and time for a repair. If it disappears then it's software and the approaches are many and varied. You might try resetting your graphics card to ensure it's well connected.

  • Is it good time to buy Mac Pro with display?

    Hi There,
I am thinking to buy Mac Pro with display and I wonder if it’s good time to do that. Displays still waiting for update. We have been waiting for Mac Pro update long and as far as I see the update wasn’t what people generally expected.
And disappointing thing about Blue-ray drive as well. I think it was good time to put one in by Apple.
So do you think its good time to buy all that stuff or wait longer and perhaps better Mac Pro with new display will come out soon?
    Regards

Um no.. It's more than an "extravagant speed bump," the new Mac Pro is using the new 45nm chip architecture. In addition, the significantly larger cache and faster 800mhz RAM make for drastic performance increase.<</div>
    Um...yes..
and with this new faster processor, I'm to do what with???...open an Excel spreadsheet a nanosecond faster, get a few more fps on Doom3? Woop-tee-do! I now have 8 cores but most software uses 1 of them while the other 7 purr in idle.
BluRay/HD video is here... or should I say HAS BEEN here for over a year now.... how am I going to use this new super-dooper processor with editing, creating, and authoring HD video and discs?
A faster processor at this point is meaningless without the tools to use it with.
All they did with the new MacPro is give you a computer that is worth the fixed $2800 price tag.
Reminds me of the tire commercial on tv where they describe this car with exotic and powerful 12 cylinder engine, and plush leather seats, and race proven suspension...... but with no tires.
It all looks great on a spec sheet, but you can't use it to do any real work.
I can film HD video all day long, but I can't use a Mac to put it on disc...... (but I can use a Dell!!)
There is no way anyone can explain this other than political.... I would bet that this has something to do with Steve's affiliation with Disney and other studios in regards to his doomed movie rental snafu. Apple has always been the ground breaker in bringing such technology to the market first (a mouse, a cd drive, multiple displays, a superdrive, etc.), and usually before the consumer even understands they need it. To be this far behind with BluRay, he's got to be holding back for a reason ... and I would love to hear it.
I've been a Mac user for 22 yrs and have only been embarrised to be so twice... once when the fruit flavored iMacs were introduced (eventually proved to be the best selling computer model of all times), and now with the absence of BluRay. I've been hoping Steve will prove me wrong again, but I've been hoping for year now... and am still waiting.
Um... No, the Mac Pros power isn't gonna do much for an excel spreadsheet.. However, I bought mine to use with Logic Studio which does take advantage of all eight-cores and the faster front side bus and RAM, and the performance is remarkable..
Just for kicks I timed how long it took to rip "Finding Nemo" with my old G4 dual 1.25 ghz using Handbrake's Apple TV preset... The G4 took 7 hours and 54 minutes.. My new Mac Pro did the same job in 24 minutes..
If you really want a Blu-Ray drive in your Mac Pro, then just buy one and stick it in the empty optical slot, but be prepared for the price tag... http://www.mcetech.com/blu-ray/
And if you use one of the Pro apps that takes advantage of multiple cores, the new Mac pro is a dream.. If you don't use one of those apps, you probably don't need a Mac Pro. At any rate, you're whole spiel about the Mac pro's power being trivial or useless is nonsense..

  • Can I move hard drives from one Mac Pro to another?

I have two mid-2010 Mac Pros that I work with daily - one 8-core on 10.7.3 and one 12-core on 12.7.4.  I would like to take all of the drives out of one Mac Pro and put them in the other and vice versa, essentially trading their content.  It probably sounds pointless, but I would like to build the more powerful one out from scratch, and right now the less powerful one is nearly empty.
Can I simply shut off both machines and swap all of the drives in one for all of the drives in the other?  I would keep them in the same bays in the machine I'm trading them with, but I'm unsure if I will screw something else up.

I've moved drives from a Mac Pro 1,1 to a 5,1 and they were able to boot the newer Mac, but to ensure that the OS was configured for the newer machine, I ran the appropriate combo updater once the drive was installed. If you're planning to stick with the drive rotation, doing that shouldn't hurt and might help even though the machines are of the same vintage. Note, however, that some commercial software keys in on machine specifics and/or the serial number to prevent piracy, so swapping drives can cause other problems.

  • Can I remove a CD Rom from one Mac pro and re-install it in another mac pro

One mac pro, my computer has a CD ROM that doesn't open and my brother's old Mac Pro has a CD ROM that still opens and closes how easy would it be for me to remove the CD ROM from my brother's old Mac Pro and re-install it in my Mac Pro

2008 and previous used ATA/IDE DVD Readers.
2009 and later used SATA DVD Readers.
You cannot cross the line without changing the cabling, which may be more expensive that just replacing the drive with a new one.
You both should be sure to update to 10.6.8 if you have not already done so, to provide enhanced malware protection. If you cannot do that, turn off JAVA (not javascript) in all your Browsers.

  • Mac pro cinema display cuts out and can't access Mac with screen sharing

    Hi
A weird thing has started happening to my Mac Pro today. After using it for a few minutes the cinema display it is attached to on the Mac Pro just goes black. The Mac Pro is clearly still on - the light is on and i can hear the fans. The Mac Pro shows up on my local network and i can connect to it and access files from my Macbook, but screen sharing doesn't work (i just get the message 'contacting mac pro' and nothing else) and i can't connect to shared iTunes library either, which makes me think it is not just a display issue. I cannot wake the computer with the mouse or keyboard, which makes me think it isn't just a sleep issue. All i can do is physically turn the Mac Pro off, start it up and it will start up successfully and then work for a few more minutes before i get the same problem. I have reset the PRAM and SMC and still have the same problems. Can anyone suggest anything else i can try?
I should mention that i have another problem with the Mac Pro in that it has been spontaneously waking up from sleep and starting up from shutdown, and i still haven't resolved this. I don't know if it is connected to the above issue.
    thanks
    nick

I have experienced almost the exact same thing with my new 2008 Mac Pro and my 30" Apple display. It has happened to me twice in the last few weeks. The first time I chalked it up to a fluke, but now that it's happened again I searched the forums. In both cases I've had music playing in iTunes which continues playing, goes on to the next track, and so on. So the machine has not crashed in full. I too can connect to the files via another computer on the network, but cannot share the screen.
I have not had the sleep issues you have had.
I'll look at the link you provided in your next post to see where that gets me, but I wanted to let you know you were not alone on this one.

  • Mac Pro Adc Displays

    Hi
Since Friday i have a Mac Pro.
I connect my old Adc Cinema Display, with an ADC-DVI Adapter.
    Everything work fine.
I have another 17" ADC Display.
Is it possible to connect two ADC Displays, with two ADC-DVI Adaperts to the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT Graphiccard without a problem?
    Thanks
    Greetings from Vienna

I'm seeing a lot of this.
    Pay attention closely.
If you have an ADC display and you want to connect it to the new Mac Pro, you must buy a different adapter. The ones supplied with the Mac Pro do not connect an ADC display to a DVI Mac Pro. You need to buy one that has a power supply and a USB port. DrBott and Apple make them.

  • Mac Pro Freeze/Display glitch on start up

I've only been using my new Mac Pro (late 2013) for a few days now but am expereicing an issue on restart/start up. It seems the computer struggles to search for the two new 1920x1200 Dell displays that are hooked up to it through mini display-DVI converters.
Sometimes it only sees one display, but when it finally finds the second one (usually before the login screen,) the second display appears to look corrupted showing a grid of weird static blocks. This then makes the pinwheel appear and login screen become translucent and eventually freeze forcing me to perform a hard reset.
Usually after a few hard restarts and switching the display cables around, it eventually starts up.
I'm running 10.9.3 btw and also am plagued with the Adobe/GPU issue. Could this problem also be related to OS X?
    Thanks.

Try using another keyboard; I know that may sound unrelated, but it's simple, and this is my reason for the advice:
I've been having my computer shut itself off either during sleep or while trying to wake from sleep. Attempting to reset my pram, as directed by AppleCare, caused my mac pro to exhibit these symptoms exactly: one mostly black screen with peculiar rectangular patterns which occasionally contain bits of text, and an Apple logo covering login area of other screen.
I found that these issues only occurred while I had the apple keyboard connected; it is the same keyboard as depicted in the two images above. After disconnecting that keyboard I was able to use another to reset the pram successfully.
The sleep and shutdown issues I've been having are still occurring.
Anyway, try removing your Apple Aluminum USB Keyboard and see if that helps. It may still just be a treatable symptom of a bigger hardware problem, but it might help some of you out.

Hi everyone. I both a Mac Pro 15" in March 2009. Five month ago I  was forced to buy by one new hard drive and extent the memory, because I had to make the upgrade (and pay) to install the new Lion operation system. Four days ago the Mother-board fails. To change it will cost a fortune. What should I do or expect from Apple to solve this problem? I am very disappointed because my trust on Apple was destroyed.

I am not sure why you are upset with Apple. Electronics equipment does fail. If the product is out of warranty or you do not have AppleCare there's not much you can do with Apple. Apple will charge you for the repair. Suggest you look for a third party repair store since they are usually less expensive than Apple. Alternatively you can buy one for about $850US and install it yourself. Sorry, but there aren't many choices in this situation.

  • Mac Pro: 2nd Display Problem

    Hello,
I have been having a lot of trouble with a Mac Pro and separate displays. First, it took me quite a bit of playing around to get it to recognize the first display plugged directly into the DVI port. I then went to add a second monitor through a mini display port to DVI adapter, and I cannot get the Mac Pro to recognize the monitor. Nothing shows up in display to suggest that the other monitor is there. Clicking on Detect Displays does nothing. Thinking it could potentially be a bad video card. I am also sure that the adapter, cable, and monitor are not faulty.
    Thanks!

The video card is an Nvidia GeForce GT 120 512MB RAM. It is a Mac Pro 4,1. I have double checked every connected and I know nothing is loose. Also, when changing out trying to change monitors in hopes that it would be detected, the Mac shut down because of a problem. All of this keeps leading me to a bad video card.

  • Mac Pro / Cinema Display slow boot time

    Hi there,
I have a late 2008 Mac Pro, running OSX 10.6.8 and it is connected to a 23" Apple Cinema Display.
A couple of days ago I noticed that when I switched the Mac on, the display would not turn on.
I forced it to shut down by holding the power button, and tried again, but nothing.
Today I switched it on, and again the display did not turn on, but I left it like that, and after about 25 minutes it turned on.
I shut it down from finder, and switched it back on and it worked instantly.
I used Disk Utility to clean up my disk, but I can't run a Disk Utility or Hardware Test from the CD, as the optical drive has not been working well for a few years.
I am guessing that it may be the display needing a while to "warm up" so it is dying, or that it might be a RAM issue that after the first long boot resolves itself.
Any thoughts as to how I should look into this more?
    Thanks!!

I used Disk Utility to clean up my disk, but I can't run a Disk Utility or Hardware Test from the CD, as the optical drive has not been working well for a few years.
Never use DVDs myself, definitely not for repairs.
Install OS X or clone the drive and have a 2nd bootable backup.
CCC can check files with checkum for integrity during copy (have to go into advanced options for copy operation).
Always have even a small boot drive handy. Even a flash drive can serve your purposes.
DU checks the directory. You don't clean up, not with DU and not with 3rd party "cleaner" apps.
You can do a Safe Boot, or try, and even run fsck -fy in Single User Mode in a pinch - the Safe Boot though you should try.
I would suspect the GPU. Beyond that, just 2008-itis that affects these 3,1 models more than any other. And yes SMC and NVRAM reset and remove all devices. Even slide out the disk drives and anything else. And press the power on button for 10 seconds while unplugged, to fully reset. NRAM is done from cold boot and the old 4-finger salute of P+R+CMD+OPT keys.

  • Extend the distance between Mac Pro and display

I'd like to know how to extend the distance between my Mac Pro and its Cinema Display. The Mac is early 2008 as is its display I think. I need a distance of about 5metres.

yes-get a DVI Dual Link Extension cable M/F or M/M. I think you can get 'em around 25 feet max. then you'd need a gender changer, maybe......
depends what you want to pay, though.*cough* monoprice*cough*
    just my opinion

  • Change my mac pro book display

    hello
i have a mac pro book
i ordered it with the glossy display. bad idea.
i have it out in my studio, so it gets dusty alla time, i sneeze on it a lot, i like to touch the screen a lot to point at things and so on. and therefore it pretty much stays grubbed up.
i am wondering if it is poss to have the screen swithced to the other non glare kind and how i would go about that and would it cost a lot of money.
    thnaks

    *"i sneeze on it a lot, "*
Yuck. Don't you cover your mouth or turn your head away?
*"i am wondering if it is poss to have the screen swithced to the other non glare kind"*
    sure...it's possible.

    Absolutely
    Buy an external monitor instead.

  • Iphone and ipod on one mac-pro.

I ordered my iphone today, it should be here within 10-21 days, I hope.....my question is this. My wife has all of her songs in itunes on our mac-pro, I am planning on using this same computer for my iphone. I don't want all of her music on my iphone, and she will not want my music on her ipod. We have completely different musical tastes. I this going to pose a problem for us? Should I have her move her music onto her laptop or on to the other hard-drive I have on this mac-pro with windows set up for her. I would appreciate any help on this one, I want to be prepared when my iphone gets here.

You won't have to move any of her music onto a different hard drive or even on to a windows PC. If you go into System Preferences, you can click on accounts and will be able to add a new user in the left pane. This way it's like having two separate Macs, none of your music will mix with hers and vice versa. Hope this helps.

  • Why does my mac pro screen display in red?

Everything works but everything has a red tint.  I need to know how to correct this.

okay, alabamaprincessblue, maybe I can help you.  Are you talking about the newest mac pro, or an older model, or are you talking about the MacBook Pro?    which is a different bag o' pork rinds altogether.  If you have the latest Mac pro, and you have appleCare or you're within the complimentary 90 day support window, give 'em a call and take 'er in.  If you have an older model mac Pro (big Aluminum tower) then maybe it's the video card, or maybe the display calibration is off. Go to system preferences, then Displays, then options and re-calibrate your display, which hopefully fixes the problem. If you have a Macbook Pro, I can't help you here, you'd have to post on the Mac Book Pro forum. the only reason I mention the Mac book Pro is that some people get the two confused and post a mac book pro question here in the mac Pro forums.  If you think you might have a problem with your video card, please go to "About this mac" under the Big Apple at the left top corner of your screen, then more info, then system report, and tell us what kind of video card you have.
    and any other relevant info
    well, it's a start, anyways
