One master library - multiple views

how do you put all household cd's into one iTunes library (on one pc) then create mutliple views - for example, mom, dad, kid A, kid B, kid C.. allows each family member to sync their iPod to their own music library (a subset of the whole thing).
can do?
no can do?

What you need it you want to replicate the iTunes from the master library, is to copy the entire contents of the iTunes folder without the iTunes music folder (Presumably you have the iTunes Music folder on the shared drive now.)
If the iTunes Music folder in the iTunes folder is empty you could simply copy it to the shared folder and then - after you have installed iTunes in each account and set the location of the iTunes Music folder in preferences, but before adding anything to the library, drag the iTunes folder out the Music folder in the new account and replace it with a copy of the one from the shared drive.
That should mean that each account will start the same as the master account but can be modified by each user as they wish, after that.
I hope all that made sense.

  • Merging of multiple aperture libraries into one master library

Over the years, due to limited disk space on my Mac, I ended up having now 3 aperture libraries in 3 separate external hard drive, totaling between he 3 libraries over 2TB of photo storage. I just purchased an additional 4TB external drive (my 4th external hard drive from Lacie) to put ALL my separate Aperture libraries into ONE (1) master Aperture library. I would like to know if anyone could help me with a set of step by step instructions to MERGE my 3 separate Aperture libraries into ONE (1) MASTER library on my newly purchased 4TB external drive. I've looked online and found several articles dealing with merging libraries from multiple computers. I tried them all and was NOT able to do what I would like to do. PLEASE, if any of you have done what I would love to do or knows how to do it, I would appreciate your help. A step by step instructions regarding how to do it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much! Robert

    Thanks Kieby,
This is what I did: 1.) File/Swith to Library/Other/New  To create a new Aperture library which I called MasterAperture Library. The new library was created on my new 4TB external driver.
2.) I then CLOSED Aperture and re-opened it using my default Aperture library located on my Picture folder (Aperture Library).
3.) I did: File/Export/Project as new Library. I chose my external hard drive with the filename: MAsterAperture Library, EXPORT.
The first time I did that nothing happened, I still had an empty MasterAperture Library files without any pictures.
Then I did the same thing thing, except this time, I high lighted my first Projects and went down to my items on my albums and then CTL-H so everthing would be high lighted (ALl my projects and all my albums). Then I did step 3 to the MasterAperture Library and I was able to get the MasterAperture Library as an image copy of the content of the Aperture Library located on my Pictures folder.
Then another problem came up, when I tried to replicateduplicate the same steps outlined above to merge my other 2 remaining libraries, I could NOT do so because the process, at that time, told me that the file MasterAperture Library already exists and if I were to continue, the content of MasterAperture Library will be replaced. Of course this is not wantt. I would like to be able to MERGE the contents of the 2 or 3 remaining libraries that I have currently located in different external drive/locations into the file MasterAperture Library located on my 4TB external drive, and do so, if possible, without too many duplications (if possible, because if I have to remove duplicated projects/albums/photos later, I am willing to do so)!. By the way, I've read the Aperture userguide more than once and have tried the approaches suggested in the guide without succes yet. Thanks again for your kind help. Regards, Bob

  • Multiple users access one iPhoto library and view and edit

I have 3 Macs and 5 users in our family. I'd like to have one iPhoto library that any user can access from any of the machines and view and/or edit. I don't need simultaneous access (which from reading posts I can see is not possible in iPhoto).
If I move the library to external HD will I be able to access the libary from each Mac over Wi-Fi? From what I read I'd need to hold ALT when opening iPhoto in each user account, on each Mac, and choose the library on the external drive.
If I set it up like this then once photos imported any user can see them, and edit if they want to? Presumably any Projects would be in the one central library rather tan being specific to a particular user?

    Yes and no
the hard drive that the iPhoto sits on must be formatted Mac OS extended (jorunaled)
iPhoto is not a multi user program and if two different people edit atthe same time it will not wrok correctly
Most importantly WiFi is not a reliable connection and has many dropouts - if you edit over WiFi you are highly likely to lose data and corrupt yoru library - it is not a good idea - viewing is slow but will work

  • Passing one parameter to multiple views

Is this possible?  I would like to pass one parameter, a date field, to multiple views.  I cannot use it in the record selection, because my views do a mathematical computation which returns a single value, but I only want to select the data for a single day.
The problem is that there are several views and I do not want to have to enter the date parameter a dozen times.

Try to use add command and write the query like this
    select * from view where datefield={?date}
also create another add command for the other view
    select * from view2 where datefield2={?date}
    for all the queries create the same parameter with the name {?date}

  • One big report, multiple views

is it ok (as a good practice) in OBIEE Answers, when dealing with a complex BM, to build a big report with lots of dimensions and measures involved , and then create many views for that report, each using a limited number of dimensions / measures available in the report ?
I have experienced a few cases when a complex report with multiple views displays incorrect results , while if creating simpler reports for each of the views the results are correct.
and that seems to me because, on each of the small simple reports a correct sql query is generated, while on the big report OBIEE tries to achieve the requirements using just one or two much more complex (and with lower granularity) queries ( the result of which are are used by presentation layer to further compute -sometimes incorrectly- the values for each of the report views).
sometimes even when I exclude a dimension column from all views (while is still present in the report) the sql query generated still use it.
is this a normal behavior ? have anyone experienced similar issues ? I'm having some hard time explaining these to the users that create reports.
    thank you.

Couldn't find anything in the documentation to support that , though. How to explain this to the report writers ? many times it is more convenient to them to just create a big report with lots of views...instead of many reports.

  • Dataflow to one attribute from multiple views doesn't work

I have an oracle database, of which I use two tables. Each table has its own view in the meta directory.
The first view contains a table which consists of a uid generated by another system and three other non-important columns. This uid is the only column I need, this should be the naming (rdn) for use with my directory entries.
The second view contains almost all the other data, such as adresses, (full) names, mail etc.
I've configured the first view with a join rule, dn mapping rule and attribute flow rule to sync a new entry from my oracle database view 1 to the metaview.
Point is that at that time I'm missing information such as givenName, sn, cn etc. As those are required by the objectClass, I configured my attribute flow rule to also flow het uid from database into them.
So that's that. I've got my new entry with the uid I want.
The second view is configured with an attribute flow rule and a join rule so it matches the entry created by the rules above.
Here's the thing: any attribute (such as mail facsimiletelephonenumber, etc) configured in my attribute flow rule from view 2 is synched to the metaview entry, except for those attributes that already are flown from view1.
No matter what attribute I try, for instance givenName, no attribute is never overwritten with a suitable value from my oracle database view 2. It still has the value of uid from my view 1.
Is there a way to fix this or am I missing some settings here? I've fiddled around a bit with the options in the capabilities and configuration tabs with very little success.

AFter some experimentation, discovered the following:
Go to Quiz > Quiz Preferences. Under Settings, there is a
"Allow user to review quiz" check box. Under Pass or Fail, there is
an "Infinite attempts" check box. I had both of these unselected.
Here's what happens when you select or deselect one or both:
Review + 1 attempt: User starts to answer questions, and then
backs up. User can go forward again. Answered questions still
display the answers. Once reaches unanswered questions, they are
    now locked.
Review + Infinite: User starts to answer questions, and then
backs up. User can go forward again. All answers to questions
erased and user can answer all questions.
No Review + 1 attempt: User starts to answer questions, and
then backs up. User can't go forward again. (This was the situation
    encountered.)
No Review + Infinite: Same as Review + Infinite.

  • One iTune Library - Multiple Computers - Playlists?

I am running a couple of Windows PC from the same iTune library stored on a network drive.
There's no need to use "sharing" in this situation since all computers access the same library.

My problem is that I cannot see the Playlists from one computer to the other, is there a way to achieve that?
I did try sharing previously (share everything) and it did not make any difference.

  • One iTunes Library, multiple user accounts?

    Hi,
I recently purchased a new iMac 21.5" for my Family and want to share my iTunes library with my wife's OS X user account so we can both access the same music/media on both accounts. Is there an easy way to do this? Maybe place the files in a "shared" folder?
Also, What's the best way to move my iTunes media to my new Mac from my old PC?
    Thanks,
    C

The Apple store will move everything from the pc to the mac or you can call Apple Support and they will help you do it.
If you type "share itunes library" into the search bar at the top of this page next to "Support" and find articles to show you how to do this.

  • How to share and update one iTunes master library on an external HD between an iMac and iBook

Hi.  I am in the process of consolidating and switching gears from storing my iTunes libraries (which have roughly the same files) on both my iMac and iBook (both OS 10.7.5) to creating one master library on an external hard drive (Canvio Connect 2TB) and sharing that between both computers, updating the laptop (which I use less frequently) when necessary. I wanted to know if this is possible and if so, how to go about doing this in a way where I don't lose any data and am able to maintain it efficiently.  Thanks!

There is a library file on the external drive that contains a list of all the tracks you have put into iTunes.  The list points to media files iTunes plays are on the external drive too.  Using the instructions I provided you tell the iTunes application on each computer to start up using the library file on the external drive.  If you add a file to iTunes while using computer #1 the file will be copied to the media folder on the external drive and the library file on the external drive will be updated to show there is a new file.  When you plug the same drive into computer #2 and start iTunes it takes the file listing from the library file on the external drive.  You are using the one library with each computer and it exists only on the external drive which both computers use.  They are truly sharing the same single copy of the  library.
I have a box with objects inside and a list inside with an updated inventory of the objects. I give the box to you. You take some objects out and put some in and make a note in the list of what you have done, then put the list back inside and hand the box to me.  How do I know what changes you have done?  Simple.  I open the box and look at the list.  It's the same list that was in your hands only moments before.  I add a few objects and update the list, put it back inside the box and hand the box to you.  How do you know what changes have been made? Simple.  Open the box and read the list which was the one I updated moments before.  The only copy of the list is in the box so neither of us is needing to keep our own copy of the list updated.
Everything iTunes needs to generate your library listing is in the iTunes folder, but it doesn't have to be on the computer.  In your case it will all be on the external drive and each copy of the iTunes application on each computer will look and use the same identical library file on the external drive as you pass it from computer to computer.  Once you have set this up you can delete the entire iTunes folder in Music from your computer because the application will no longer be using it.  The only thing "iTunes" left on the computer will be the application itself, but each copy will have been told to use the library on the external drive.
Okay, enough.  I've said the same thing about 4 ways now.

  • Load multiple views in one server call

    Hello,
We are developing SAPUI5 application with Master & Detail page pattern. On detail page, we have 7 tabs so to make it more manageable we have created 7 different views, one for each tab instead of writing all the code in one view.  And one extra view which hold the tab and 7 views.
Now code is easy to maintain as we can go to specific view and do the changes instead of searching in one big view. But there is a new problem now, it take lot of time to load the detail section. It makes separate server call to load each view.  Earlier it was loading detail section with one server round trip but now it is making 8 server round trips ( one for every view ).
So the question is, is there any way to load multiple views in single server trip?
    Regards,
    Vikram

You can do so but then at the time of defining the viewset you need to ensure the rowspan and colspan correctly to fit the first and the second view. More over the configuration also needs to be maintained correctly.

  • Can I share one iTunes Library with multiple computers on a network?

Can I share one iTunes Library with multiple computers on a network?
note: one library universally shared, not Home Sharing (one library each, shared to each.)
I want to share one library stores on my server and access it through various local computers. When I buy a song from a computer (non-server), I want it to be added to the library (stored on server). I want it to auto copy to my server, for organization. I want to be able to sync my phone from any computer.
Most of this I can do, if i figure out how to use one universal library for all my computers.
Any ideas how I can do this?

    eyeinit,
You can authorize your iTunes account on up to 5 computers at a time.
However, purchased music is downloaded to the first machine to download it, but these articles have more information on moving your music between authorized computers:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93063
This one is for moving all your music using an iPod as a storage drive

  • ITunes library on one computer with multiple users

Mom, Dad, and kids each have their own log-in to this computer. Mom is the main administrator and when we downloaded all the CDs to iTunes, it went to Mom's iTunes Library. Dad has logged in under his name and purchased items from iTunes store which are now in his library. We now have 2 separate iTunes Libraries. How can we make the iTunes library the same for both Mom and Dad?
Dad just got iPhone and wants to be able to sync his apps to his computer login as well as having access to Mom's iTunes library - it would seem to me that the easiest way to do this is to copy the library from Mom to Dad or somehow be able to have Dad share the itunes library. Can't figure out how to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

To share an iTunes library among multiple users, put the iTunes library in /Users/Shared/Music/iTunes, and for each user, make an alias from ~/Music/iTunes to /Users/Shared/Music/iTunes. Set permissions on /Users/Shared/Music/iTunes (and everything inside it) to give each user read and write permissions, and you're all set. My wife have been sharing our iTunes library this way since 2005, without a hitch.
Also, you'll have to import the contents of one library into the other, to make one big library, which is an extra step, but there's no way to avoid this now that you have two libraries.
Here are step by step instructions:
    1. Figure out which library is larger, and start with that one. I'm going to guess it's Mom's. Log in as Mom.
    2. In the Finder, make a folder called /Users/Shared/Music.
    3. Move the folder ~/Music/iTunes (that's your iTunes library) to /Users/Shared/Music/iTunes.
    4. Select the folder /Users/Shared/Music/iTunes, and make an alias of that folder. (In the Finder, click on File->Make Alias.) The alias will be called "/Users/Shared/Music/iTunes alias".
    5. Move "/Users/Shared/Music/iTunes alias" to "~/Music/iTunes alias". Rename the alias to ~/Music/iTunes.
    6. At this point, check your work: start iTunes while still logged in as Mom. Mom should see her iTunes library, just as before, as if it had never been moved.
    7. While still logged in as Mom, go to /Users/Shared, select the Music folder, and give Mom and Dad read and write permissions on that folder and all its contents.
    8. Log out as Mom, and log in as Dad. In the Finder, move Dad's iTunes library from ~/Music/iTunes to the Desktop.
    9. As Dad, repeat steps 4 and 5.
    10. Now Dad should check his work, by starting iTunes. Dad should now see Mom's library instead of his own.
Congratulations! You now have a shared library. You not only share content, but all playlists, artwork, etc. As Dad, create a playlist, fill it with romantic music, and call the playlist "To My Beautiful Wife". Log out as Dad, and log in as Mom, and Mom will see the same playlist. Crack open a bottle of champagne.
But Dad's content is still in ~/Desktop/iTunes. You'll have to add it to your shared libary:
    11. Log in as Dad, and in iTunes, turn on the preference iTunes->Preferences->Advanced->Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library.
    12. Still in iTunes, choose File->Add to Library and start adding all the files in ~/Desktop/iTunes. They'll be copied from Dad's desktop into the shared library. Try importing a couple of tracks, and log in as Mom and confirm that both Mom and Dad see the imported content. (I myself have never done this, so I can't give you much guidance about importing, since I started our iTunes library as a single shared library from the very beginning. For all you know, you can just select every folder in ~/Desktop/iTunes and import everything at once. I would imagine you might have to futz around re-organizing everything nicely once you've imported all Dad's stuff, but once that's done, it's done.) Once everything is imported you can trash ~/Desktop/iTunes.
That's it. Any content you add will be instantly available to both users without having to sync or copy anything ever, because both users are always looking at the same library. (If one user deletes something it's gone for both users too, so be careful!) The only trouble you could possibly have are permissions issues, depending on how your system and users are set up. On my computer, after setting it up once, we never had to think about it again. However, we set up a separate account to be the administrator, and neither my wife or I have admin privileges. Since Mom is an administrator and Dad is not, you might find that OS X treats you differently when you create new files in your library. You'll have to try it and see. Good luck!
