One Microsoft Server 2003 R2 (small business server) doesn't connect to Context Directory Agent

I have 2 DC's and I'm trying to get the cda to connect to both dc's.  Both are 2003 R2 but the one I'm having trouble with is Small Business Server.  I've double checked security settings and firewalls, but I'm still receiving the error on one server only.
All help is appreciated.
The error I'm getting is:

Hi Toby,
Just an addition. Did you use an administrator account to logon the RWA and then connect to the remote computer?
Did encounter the same issue?
Meanwhile, please refer to following threads and check if can help you.

  • Cannot install exchange server 2010 without small business server 2011

we purchased Windows Small Business server 2011 for one of our servers and installed the software and setup exchange server for the office.   We had some 3rd party software that would not work with small business server so we had to install windows
2008 r2 server.  we still need exchange server 2010.  Is there anyway to install without small business server?  When I entered the key in exchange server for the small business server it is saying that it is an invalid key.  We have a
genuine version of windows small business server.  is it all or nothing for the software.  Thanks

SBS is indeed all or nothing. Breaking apart the individual components is not allowed. That includes exchange. If you want exchange without SBS, you'll need to buy exchange separately and exchange CALs. If you only have SBS CALs and aren't going to run
SBS, you'll need Windows CALs as well.

  • Setlup Windows Server 2012 like Small Business Server

I am presently using SBS 2003.  Because SBS has been discontinued and Server Essentials doesn't have Exchange, I have decided to purchase Server 2012 and do Exchange as a VM.  Is there any documentation on how to setup Group Policies in Server
2012 to mimic SBS?  The features I'm interested in are My Documents redirection and Desktop Redirection.  There are probably a few other features I can't think of simply because all my servers were SBS and I was used to the wizards and
features that set themselves up automatically.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Thanks for posting in the forum.
Regarding your request, please understand that you could configure Folder Redirection polices in GPMC just like SBS 2003. For details, please refer to the following articles.

In addition, please understand that you could install Windows Server Essentials Experience role on Windows Server 2012, the feature makes you take advantage of all the features that are available
to you in Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials without the locks and limits enforced in it. For details, please refer to the following article.

  • How can I connect 10.4 Mac to Windows Small Business Server 2003?

I have seen some other discussions touching on this topic and have tried the various solutions but am getting nowhere. I can't connect my iBook, which is running Tiger, to our office's server, a Windows Small Business Server 2003. I am the only Mac user and as a Mac devotee actually spent my own hard cash for the iBook. (I work for a non-profit with low funds.) Previously, when our office had a different server and I had Panther, I could access the server. Then it was purely an academic exercise, since I had no need to access the shared files. Now I have a project that requires this, and I am stumped. Our part-time IT consultant is also stumped. We have tried a lot of the suggestions from other posts, to no avail. I suggested to the IT guy that there could be a problem regarding the encryption of my password, and I think he tried that. We have tried various versions of the domain name. The server comes up in the list when I follow the "go--connect to server--browse" path, but we come up empty. We've gotten error message -36, a message that we are trying to connect an alias to something that can't be found, and a message that we don't have enough information to go any further (something like that). I am writing from my eMac at home, so I can't reconstruct the situation right now. I have found in my extensive internet search that Thursby has something called ADmitMac that is pretty expensive software ($119 for one person) that I could install on the iBook and could help me access the Windows Small Business Server 2003 without doing anything else to the server. Does anyone know if that would that work? Any suggestions would be so appreciated!
eMac and iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I have specific errors listed below:
Actually, I have been encountering similar problems.  I have an end user who wants to connect to an SBS 2003 server, and can not connect/use RWW because the Active X will not work, cannot use the VPN in PPTP mode because Windows 8 disallows the connection
("Error 942: The connection could not be established because the authentication method used by your connection profile is not permitted for use by an access policy configured on the RAS/VPN server."), and cannot use an L2TP VPN connection because it requires
a certificate "Error 766: A certificate could not be found. Connections that use the L2TP protocol over IPSEC require the installation of a machine certificate, also known as a computer certificate.".  I attempted to utilize the SBS Connection Tool downloaded
from RWW, but it fails with a proxy error ("Unable to execute custom script (Configure proxy settings for IE). Required file could be missing." - likely due to the PPTP tunnel it tries to use). I went so far as to install the Enterprise CA on the server, installed
    the Hotfix
(KB922706) so that the website could be accessed from Vista and above, and installed the requested certificate.  The VPN fails to connect after
it times out and fails to negotiate a connection.  This last one is "Error 789: L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer
encountered a processing error during the initial negotiations with the remote computer."
I have screenshots to share if anyone cares to see.  I really just get the feeling that Microsoft is trying to kill SBS 2003 by ingoring it into oblivion.
The VPN works fine with Windows 7 clients by the way.

  • Connected to a Windows Small Business Server

    Hi all,
I'm trying to hook a Powerbook up to a Windows server running Windows Small Business Server.
The server was previously running NT, and I could see the server's drives in the Network pane of the finder.
Now, I can see the drives, but whenever I try to connect to it, the finder displays a message saying that the alias could not find the original.
Any hints would be much appreciated!

A quick & easy one to try is instead of using the network pane, in the finder click on 'Go>Connect to Server>' then enter something like afp://127.0.0.1/sharename
For connecting to windows it will probably be smb://IPaddress/sharename
Sometimes (who knows why) the finder wont display a valid share... But you can connect this way... (I had this prob with a win2000 server yesterday)
Try that... please ask if you need further clarification
    Cheers.

  • About SQL 2008 on any Windows Small Business Server

Hi, I try to install only 1 Server, we need that server run all setting (manage) of domain controller, active directory and sql. Please let me know if its possible install SQL 2008 (What ever versión) on Windows Small Business Server what
ever year (2012, 2008, Etc.) without having problems with the domain controller, firewall, sharing the SQL to network computer and the Windows Server year and versión we need? Thank!

    Hi,
Please refer to following article and check the operating system requirements for SQL Server 2008.
    Hardware and Software Requirements
    for Installing SQL Server 2008
Based on your description, I understand that you want to install the SQL Server on a DC.
For security reasons, it is recommended that you do not install the SQL Server on a domain controller. So, it would be better if you put the SQL server on a second server or a virtualized server rather than on the SBS itself.
You may encounter problems when installing SQL Server on
    a domain controller

  • Connecting to Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard

Company recently upgraded from an old server to Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard. I would like to connect to a MS Exchange acct remotely through Entourage.   I have used the settings provided by the IT dept but they are not working. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Based on my experience, there is no upgrade path for OEM licensing. In addition, only SBS 2008 Standard can upgrade to SBS 2011 Standard, and there is no path to so
that from SBS 2011 Essentials. I am sorry to say that you may need a migration instead of an upgrade.

  • Error detected by export DLL. Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 SP 1

    Post Author: craig.engelbrecht
    CA Forum: .NET
I have an Excel report that stopped working on a live environment a couple months ago. When I run the report I get the error 'Error detected by export DLL'.The server is running Microsoft Windows Small Business Server, Service Pack 1 and is using Crystal Reports 9.I am unable to replicate this error on other environments running the same configuration.I tried installing 'crnet11win_en.exe', even though this was a fix for Windows Server 2003 SP2, still no luck. Does anyone have any ideas on what is causing this and how it can be fixed?? Thanks,Craig

    Thanks Ludek
We found the issue after doing control tests, here.
We found that our crystal viewer, developed in .NET 2003, does not work with XP SP3, even with the fix crnet11win_en.exe.
    Our control test, was:
Ran report with XP SP2, exported ok
Upgraded pc to XP SP3, then ran report again, Report failed to export, with error message as described.
Had a crystal viewer set for  using .NET 2005 files, but not yet ready for deployment to users, tested and was able to export to excel using .NET 2005 with XP SP3.
The issue seems to relate to exportmodeller.dll, which was the issue in the past when XP was upgraded and stopped the export function from working before.

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Small Business Server

Has anyone been successful syncing email with a MS Exchange Server 2003 Small Business Server?
My IT guy has tunred on IMAP, but still no luck. Just get a warning message that the iPhone cannot connect to the server.
    Thanks.

Turning IMAP on is the 1st step. IT will also need to open that port (143) on the firewall.

  • Migration of Windows Small Business Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012 Essentials

    Hi,
I am trying to migrate Windows Small Business Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012 Essentials by following the steps given in the link below:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj200112.aspx
I have looked at other threads on the forum but none of them have been too helpful.
    The issue: When
I run the Migration Preparation Tool on the Source Server, it runs successfully and does not report any errors. However, when I try installing Windows Server 2012 Essentials on the Destination Server, it displays an error that says 'Source
Server not prepared for migration: After you run the Migration Preparation Tool successfully on your source Server, click retry'.
The Source Server has 2 network adapters-one for the local network and the other for connection to the internet and the router is set as the default gateway this adapter.
Since it is mentioned in the documentation - 'configure your Source Server to use one network adapter', I'm wondering if this is the issue and I need to make changes in this configuration?
On running the Microsoft IT Environment Health Scanner tool it
reported an error - 'DNS Server listening on multiple addresses' and a warning ‘Domain Controller listening on multiple addresses’. Both point to the same solution KB 272294 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272294).
But it did not remove the errors.
    Other steps performed:
As per the steps, I performed a backup, installed recent service packs and synchronized the source server time with external source.
On running the Best Practices Analyser. It shows 3 warnings.
    - The threshold for the Allocated Memory alert is set to the default value. However the server has more than 2 GB of RAM installed.
    - Microsoft Outlook Client not installed" Text="Microsoft Outlook Client is not installed in the ClientApps folder. You must run Windows SBS integrated setup.
    - The MSFW instance should use the latest available service pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2000. The MSFW instance should use the latest available service pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2000.
I also ran the Ran netdiag.exe, dcdiag.exe commands
    and no failures were reported.
The Event Viewer does not show any errors.
Not sure to what extent these warnings would affect the migration.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The SBS2003 needs to use one NIC only so you'll need to change that before starting. If it is the premium version and has ISA server installed, that will need to be removed first.  See:

  • Can't connect to Small Business Server 2003 via Active Directory

I have done lots of searching, both in these forums and the wider internet, and cannot find a solution to my specific problem.
I am trying to connect my G5 (10.3.9) to a Windows network. We have a Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 with Active Directory. The PCs have no problem using this, and I can connect to shares setup on the server via AFP.
But I am having problems when I try to configure the AD plug-in in Directory Access on the Mac. When I click 'Bind', I enter the Server's Administrator username & password and when I click 'OK', it gets to Step 3 of 5 "Verifying Credentials". It ticks away at this step for about 30 seconds, then comes up with error message saying "Invalid user name and password combination."
I have tried other users with admin privileges, but they don't work either. I know the usernames and passwords aren't invalid, because I created them. I have tried fiddling around with other settings in the AD setup, but nothing gets any further.
Without any other 3rd party software (that's my final option), is there something I need to check/change, either on the Mac or the server, to make this Mac to authenticate via AD? Please help!

Hi Andbrowny, thanks for your response.
Your advice didn't really help my Active Directory problem (AD doesn't require SMB does it?), but it gave me some progress on my SMB problem. I can connect via AFP, but previously when I tried to connect via SMB, it kept coming up with the error "Could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct".
Now, after changing the policies on the server, I get an error -43 message saying "The operation could not be completed because one or more required items cannot be found."
So now I have two problems! SMB is not finding something it needs, and Active Directory is not "verifying credentials".
Actually, I have three problems: When I am connected via AFP, filenames over 31 characters long are truncated on the server, and I can't copy long filenames onto the server without renaming them. I have read that SMB would fix this to a degree (256 characters for the complete file path), but is there anything (a protocol or software) that allows long filenames to be read/written with ease?
Side note: The server is not 100% configured, the bloke installing it still has some work to do, but Active Directory works for all the XP machines, and I can connect to each XP workstation with SMB.

  • Is mountain Lion compatible with Windows Small Business Server 2003

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me if Mac OS 10.8 is compatible with Microsoft Small Business Server 2003.  We connected Mac Os 10.7 machines to our MS server but we have no results with Mac Os 10.8.  Our Windows server is an HP proliant with SBS 2003 SP2.
    Thx
    Philippe

I'd recommend calling AppleCare to research this one, you probably should tell them which Mail client you are using on the iMac...i.e. Mail, Outlook, etc...

  • Exchange 2003 Small Business Server and iPhones

I know that there are a lot of questions on this, but I think mine may be unique.
    Current Environment:
Small Business Server 2003  All Patched and Current.
I cannot get any IOS device to successfully recieve emails or calendar items using ActiveSync.  For any other device, Android tablet or phone, Balckberry tablet or phone, Windows phone, all work.
Symptoms:  I can create the account on the device, and it will verify the account(internally or externally).  This is evident by the check marks, and the return to the account screen in the settings menu.  Checking mail however, bring the 'Cannot Get Mail, Connection to server failed' message.
Specific example, I have a user Bob.  I can set Bob up with activesync email on any Android, Microsoft, or BlackBerry device; but Bob's iPhone will not work.
I have run through these forums a few times.  Things we've tried:
The 'Inhereit Security Settings from Parent' in ADUC.  Checked for all users, and not applicable.
Verified OMA in System manager, and 'Unsupported Devices' is checked.
Safari on an IOS device will connect up internally or externally to our mail.company.com address.
Test Exchange Connectivity reports a correct configuration.
Recreation of accounts does not resolve the issue.
No errors reported in Event Log of note.  Some TermServDevices erorrs, but they are related to printers and my rdp connection.
Restarted MSExchSA, IISAdmin, and related services.
Permissions of IIS 'Default Website' directories are in line with Microsoft guidlines.
    Restarted the server.
ried using the internal name of our server connected to internal wifi.  Same results.

Hi got a new iPhone 4 that came with IOS 6.1.3.   It turns out that I can not connect it to an exchange 2013 server.
When I set it up it puts checks all the way through like it's going to work, then when I open the mail app and try to get emails, it says it can not get mail, the connection to the server failed.
I have read that there were exchange problems with ios 6.1.1 and that 6.1.2 corrected them, but I also think 6.1.3 broke connection to exchange 2013
It works fine, on exchange 2010, and I have other devices, like android that can connect to the 2013 server

  • Sync TX to Outlook 2003 running on Small Business Server 2008

I have a TX that worked fine syncing to Outlook 2003.  Our office just upgraded to Small Business Server 2008, and now I can't sync to Outlook. Reading through the manual & forums, it soundsl like I must use Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.  Is this correct, or can I still HotSync it the way I used to before we were running exchange/SBS?  If so, is there any way to have my TX show more than 7 days of past calendar events, as I often need to look back at things over the past month or two.

    Hi James_wilson,
    Any update?
Just additional, would you please let me know whether have installed all updates for Outlook 2013? If hasn’t, please install and then monitor the result.
Please also check if you enable
Always prompt for logon credentials setting in Outlook 2013.
If you enable this setting, please uncheck and check if this issue still persists. Meanwhile, please remove the old credential in
Credential Manager, then add again. Then monitor the result
By the way, please run the Exchange BPA on the SBS 2008 server and check if can find some issue.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu
