One monitor with mac mini and pc

i have a new mini and i want to use my dell flat panel with it. I assume all i need is a vga splitter. Does anyone have advice on this, such as one that works well? Any advice is appreciated.

I am using a Dell flat screen at work as well and it allows digital as well as analog input. In case your model is similar you might just connect the Mac with the digital in (providing a better image as well) and continue using the analog for your PC. Switching between the input devices works pretty easy as well with the "-" button on the panel...
unless Mac and PC have to share as well keyboard and mouse, then you need a KVM-Switch (Keyboard, Video, Mouse).

I can't use my Philips monitor with Mac mini, I am using a HDMI to VGA cable to connect them. But no signal on my Philips monitor.
My Mac mini is in a good condition, it can connect with my HDTV, the BENQ monitor at my office, but I can't make it connect with my Philips monitor.
    I dun know what happen.
    Please help!
    Thanks!

The two are incompatible, HDMI is a digital signal and VGA is an analog signal. You need a monitor with a HDMI port or a DVI-I port, these are both digital signals. DVI-I gives the best output.

  • Resolution of Samsung T220 monitor with Mac Mini (or any Mac)

I'm looking at a Samsung T220 or T220HD paired with a Mac Mini, or more probably new Mac Mini to be announced in Jan, 2009. The maximum resolution for the T220 is 1680 x 1050. The Samsung manual states that the T220 usually supports all Macs, but to check the "Preset Timing Modes" to ensure Mac is supporte for this model.
When checking the T220 user manual, the "Preset Timing Modes" section indicates only the following resolutions when connecting to a Mac:
    MAC, 640 x 480
    MAC, 832 x 624
    MAC, 1152 x 870
Does this mean Mac owners can never get the maximum 1680 x 1050 resolution out of this and similar Samsung monitors, only 1152 x 870? If so, what's the point of investing in a good quality monitor that gives Macs only mediocre resolutions?
Any Mac owners getting 1680 x 1050 out of their Samsung T220 or T220HD?

    Hi there
I just got a new Mac Mini and a 32 inch Samsung LCD 450 series. I am not sure of max resolution but I know it's a 720p set. I have been impressed with the plug and play set up via a VGA cable. But, I can not seem to figure out how to get the max resolution set up either.
The Mac display preferences only give me choices for standard monitor sizes that are not proportional to the Samsung screen, I have tired both 800 x 600 and the 1024 x 768 I have mixed and matched this with changing the picture proportions on the TV (16:9 vs 4:3). Things either seem stretched or overly square.
Am I missing something here, Is there somewhere else I should be looking for settings to tweak?
Any help or steering toward other resources would be most welcome.
    Thanks, Josh

  • Can I turn off the monitor for Mac Mini and use it as a music server?

I am in the process of upgrading my PC most likely to a Mac product. With the non-server version of Mac OS X, can I turn off the monitor connected to a Mac Mini and use it as a streaming server? Or I have to get the server version of OS X to do that?

I plan to run Logitech Media Server on the Mac to stream music to players. Each player interacts with the Logitech Media Server to select songs to stream. When I turn on a player, it will wake up the computer from the sleep mode.
Currently, this Logitech Media Server runs on a Windows Vista machine and it will keep the PC from entering sleep mode while playing the songs. After I play the last song, the PC will start the idle count down and then enter into sleep mode.
Do you see any problem with my intended use of a Mac Mini?

  • Problem with Mac mini and HP w2207h

I have a new Mac mini and a HP w2207h screen. I have a problem with the resolution. The screen wants to be on 1680x1050, but when i turn that mode on, the screen is just blinking and you can't see anything. so i have to use the 1080p modus. But it's kind of blury. Can anyone help? Does apple has some kind of support mail??

Don't waste your time or money on the adaptors. I have a hp 2207h and I tried th dvi to hdmi and the dvi to vga, neither work, I still don't have a working monitor. Waited on the phone for tech support for 30 minutes. Then got a total line of crap.
This monitor works flawlessly with my comcast motorola hd cable box, with my sony dvd player, with my toshiba laptop, with my hp computer. But will not work with a mac mini... The only logical reason given the wide varity of equipment it will work on, is that apple does not support HDMI standards, if they did, it would work.
The apple does work on my 40 in tv. But thats not where I want it. So, this is useless to me. And after the line of crap I got from tech support, I'm thinking about quiting apple all together.
This ***, I was really excited about my first apple computer. Now after 4 hours, and nothing but frustration and no support at all from apple, I'm thinking about giving up and sticking with PC's from here on out. Worst experiance ever.
I may even switch to android and chuck my 4...

  • Problem with Mac Mini and Panasonic PT-AE700 projector

I just bought a brand new Mac Mini and intended to connect it through hdmi to my Panasonic PT-AE700 projector (with a 10 m hdmi-hdmi cable and a dvi-hdmi adapter). However there is no signal recognized by the projector.
Any suggestions? I have tried with two different dvi-hdmi adapters between the Mini and the cable. Both work fine with my MacBook Pro, but with the Mini there is no signal.
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Thanks again BSteely for your answer.
Unfortunately I still haven't been able to get anything out from the projector through HDMI.
However, I've found someone with a similar problem. It seems the problem is the lenght of the HDMI cable (which in fact is closer to 15 m than 10 m). HDMI is designed to handle at least those 10-15 m runs, but the problem seems to be DVI, which is only capable of something around 5 m. Since I'm converting from DVI to HDMI, I'm subject to DVI's limitations. And the MBP seems to have better capability of handling the weaked signal than the Mini.

Gefen should have an amplifier (HDMI Super Booster) that could solve the problem. I just ordered it to see if it could help in strenghtening the signal and solve the problem for me.

  • Problem with Mac Mini and LG Flatron monitor locked in 'power saviing mode'

Hi I bought my Mac Mini in July 2009 and have being having more and more issues with my monitor. Form the beginging the monitor had issues after the mac went to sleep. I have tried setting the exact refresh rate to 60 using SwitchResX, but now I can't get the monitor to display anything is stuck in 'power saving mode' - I have tried everything shutting down the moitor the Mac, disconnection the adapter, nothing works. BTW the monitor is fine I am using my PC laptop and the monitor to write this cry ofr help right now. Its a LG Flatron L222WS and I am using a mini display port to VGA adaptor.
I read somewhere that reverting to Mac OS 10.5.6 might do the trick - any other ideas?

Try starting in Safe mode and see if you can get the monitor to work again. If it gives a useable screen in Safe mode, go into Displays preferences and set the resolution to 1680 x 1050 and restart normally.
Hopefully that will get you back to where the monitor is working again with the mini.
There should be no relationship between a monitor's sleep habits and whether refresh is exactly 60Hz or not, so I wouldn't mess with SRX anymore to try and correct that problem.

  • Trouble with Mac mini and samsung 5 series tv

Hi there, have just bought a second hand mini and trying to hook it up to my samsung 5 serties tv!!! easy or so i thought!! iget the apple loading screen (grey one!) and then it goes blank and nothing else happens! has anyone got any suggestions? thanks in advance!

If you look through the threads here you'll find that this sort of issue has come up quite often, both with TVs and even with some monitors. Typically the problem is that once the system has booted to the point that the screen changed from the grey one with Apple logo, it's loading the preferences previously set in MacOS. When that happens, if the system has display preferences set that the display itself can't work with, the screen will generally go blank, or show a very distorted or rolling image. If your mini had previously been used with a relatively high resolution or refresh rate setting which your TV can't cope with, it means you need to reset the mini's preferences to something more basic, at least to get you going.
You can do this in a number of ways, but the easiest is probably to go ahead and connect the system to a computer monitor and boot it up, then set the display preferences to something very basic such as 800x600. If you don't have a computer monitor to connect to, then instead, boot the system into safe mode by holding the shift key down as the system boots. This should set it to a basic resolution the TV can manage. Open the display preference pane and set a 800x600 resolution.
If that still doesn't help, boot again (to computer monitor or into safe mode) and in the Finder's Edit menu, use the Find command to search for all instances of 'windowserver' (no quotes) and drag all instances found (there should be 3 or 4) to the trash. These are the files that tell MacOS what settings to use for the display, so trashing them will prevent the system using previously settings. After that, reboot normally. With those files missing, the Mac will create new ones when it boots and loads MacOS, giving you a usable display at low resolution. You should be able to work from there to get the correct resolution set for your TV.

  • Problems with Mac Mini and Premiere Pro CC 2014

I am new to video editing with a background in graphic design and typically do short corporate videos.
I am currently using a Mac Mini (late 2012 model), running Mavericks 10.9.5. And I keep having a problem with Premiere Pro CC 2014 freezing in the program monitor, while scrubbing through the timeline.
    Here are my specs:
Processor: 2.6 GHz Intel Quad Core i7
    Memory: 16 GB
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024MB
I am also using a 2TB Fantom G-Force Megadisk external HD to store all my media. It is connected via a Firewire 800 cable
I'm wondering if the freezing is caused by Mac Mini having a integrated graphics card vs. a discreet one. Has anyone else had any problems like this using a Mac Mini?

  • Sony monitor with mac mini 1.25 - no video signaal

This is really strange. I have an old 15 inch flat panel Sony Monitor SDM-M51D
    that I know works. I have a 1.25 Mac Mini that I know works, I have a
dvi -Vga adapter that came with the mac mini. It works.
But the sony says "no signal" on this computer only.
    Ideas???
    Jim

Some of the old PPC minis had issues with some old monitors. Something to do with not enough voltage on the output, if I recall correctly. I don't know if there is any cheap fix, other than using a different monitor. You might try searching this forum and googling for your monitor model. There are several lists of monitors reported to work (or not) with the mini.
You might do better with the Digital input on this monitor, especially if you can borrow a DVI cable, or buy from a store with a good return policy.
Here is one example of a monitor list for the Mini -- DVI-connected:

  • Ideal network to share 2TB iTunes library with mac mini and iMacs by wifi?

    Greetings,
Just made the move from pc to apple world. First time poster. Please feel free to suggest if this topic is better suited in another area.
I am looking for an ideal means of sharing my music library (+/- 1.5TB size) from my mac mini with my 2 kids iMacs.
The mac mini has an internal 80GB SSD and 4 GB RAM. It connects via ethernet to my Netgear WNDR 3700 wifi a/b/n router which connects to a Docsis 3 modem. Speed and signal strength is great.
My music library is currently backed up on a Seagate USB desktop HDD. My interim plan is to use USB to connect it to the mini. Long term plan is to migrate to a NAS system.
The kids iMacs (1x 2006 model with core duo and 1 x 20008 with core 2 duo) both run snow leopard 10.6.3 and access wifi signals for internet. Wifi signals ~16-20 Mbps strength.
Is there prefered method to share the music library with the kids by wifi? Only one way? do I need to add airport devices, or? It would be extremely difficult to provide ethernet to their rooms.
    Thanks

  • Posterized colors on two different monitors with Mac Mini, late 2014 model

Sometimes when I leave my Mac for a while (like an hour or more), I come back to a black monitor, then click the trackpad to wake it up (I assume it is "sleeping" but I don't see a way to make the monitor sleep), I am faced with posterization of the colors and crumbly text, like this:
I can "fix" it by going into System Preferences > Display and change the rotation to 90 or 180 or something. The screen clears up right away. Then I revert to the normal rotation. This is an ok workaround but it is not convenient. I never had this problem with my MacBook.
I first saw this issue with my late 2014 Mac Mini that I got a couple months ago, and it has happened with both monitors I have tried: an old Benq monitor attached with DVI (DVI to Thunderbolt adapter) and a new Thunderbolt Display. The Benq was connected using a DVI to HDMI adapter. I no longer have this monitor. The Thunderbolt Display is attached directly to the Mini using the Y cable to the Thunderbolt port on the Mini.
Yosemite version is 10.10.2. It doesn't happen if I wake the Mac while it's showing the screen saver.
The only things I have checked under Energy saver is "Wake for network access" and "Enable Power Nap". I don't have anything Scheduled, as I don't have a specific time of day I want it to turn on and off, but I would like the Mac to wake up right way and display correctly if I have to leave the Mac for a while during the day.
I've seen other similar threads, but so far all the suggestions I've seen talking about upgrading to 10.10.2 (which I have) or some sort of workaround involving sleep settings (which I can't quite understand). I'm going to call the Mac Store where I bought the Mini next week, or when I have some time, but I have a feeling they aren't going to be able to help me much. It seems like this is such a common problem with the new Mini's I might be stuck with it, unless someone has a better solution or workaround.

  • TC in combination with mac mini and WIFI

    Hello,
I am living in an apparment with provided internet - it used to be a cable modem. Now cable modem was deactivated by the owner and free WIFI was established in our house (but limited to three devices)
I connected my mac mini to the existing WIFI - no prob! Is is possible to create another WIFI with TC using cable connection between mach mini and TC?
If yes, please let me know how to set up the mac and TC.
    Thanks!

    What is this wifi for?
I have more than three devices which need WIFI connectio, unfortunatel!
If it is just to connect to the TC it is possible.. if you want to connect to the TC from the mini that is fine.. you do not need wifi for this.. just ethernet to the TC is fine.. so I just don't know what the wifi from the TC is for and if it requires internet access.
If you want internet access via the Mac, you can setup Internet Connection Sharing..
See OS X Mavericks: Share your Internet connection
It is a really poor setup though.. and tends to be unreliable, slow and means anytime the mini is off no internet to the other clients.
There are better ways to do things.
Put any wireless bridge, in front of the TC and use that to provide a wired connection. Apple Express can do this.. none of the other devices can. but wireless bridges are not hard to find and you can get cheaper ones than the apple.
This is what I tried, thanks to your recommondation! I connected the AirportExpress with the given WIFI and I've connected it to the TC via LAN cable, the TC now provides my own WIFI to all devices. But the mac mini, as well connected by cable to the TC does not have Internet access. To log on to the given WIFI I have to use a web-login (like in a hotel) but I have the impression that it doesn't work because of the hardware I have now connected. If you have any suggestions to this I would really appreciate it!
You will however not get out of the problem without creating more problems.. Internet access will be slowed and you will have double NAT issues.
I set the TC to bridge, no Double-NAT anymore.
    Thanks for now, 75% achieved!

  • Pb screen fuzzy plugged with mac mini and hdmi cable

Hi all, I bought my first mac yesterday and I plugged it it this morning on my tv screen with an hdmi cable. I saw that the screen at the bottom where all the icones are is fuzzy. We set it up at the apple store and it was working well. Could you please help me.
Thanks a lot for your answer

Well, here's to a happy conclusion.
After bugging the local electronics store for two days in a row, I've found a working Full-HD TV.
    Lessons learned:
    a) Be thankful for stores where you can bring in your own computer and hook it up to the TVs on display.
    b) Don't just glance at the manual.
After trying several TVs and not getting any good picture by either connecting by VGA (consistently showed slight ghosting with high-contrast colors) or HDMI (all TVs did cut off Dock and menu bar), neither the salespeople nor I had any idea what else to do.
The next day, it hit me: We had tried all kinds of setup/config selections from the TV's setup menu.
What we did NOT do was to simply try it with the "Zoom/Aspect" button on the remote - partially because that didn't work with the first model I bought.
So, Mac mini back into the suitcase, back to the store, "Ah, you again...", hook up the first TV set, press "Zoom", pick "Truescan", press "OK" -
Problem solved. Pixel-perfect alignment. => TV bought.
Just for those looking for a "known to work" answer: It was the Toshiba, XV 500 series, older model. It's running on "1920x1080 @ 60 Hz (interlace)", but since I'm using it as a monitor, the "interlace-only" doesn't bother me too much. No problem even when watching DVDs via the mini.
Image is stable, text is crisp and readable at 5-6 ft. distance, dimmed-down lamp is more than adequate even at minimum brightness since the room faces north. Low-power setting of the lamp makes for only 70 watts consumption instead of the rated 180+ watts.
    Happy user here now
