One of my address book birthdays wont show up in iCal

Every birthday I've inputed into my address book appears on my birthdays calendar in iCal, except my father's. A few days ago, I noticed that my father's birthday was listed on the wrong day in iCal, so I opened my address book to check it out, but it was correct in the address book. I tried changing the birth year, and that caused my father's birthday entry to disappear entirely from iCal.
Does anybody have any advice on getting it to work properly?
Edit: I've just tried playing around with the date in the address book, When I change the year to 0001, his birthday shows up in iCal on 8/22, though it's inputed in address book on 8/24. This two-day discrepancy is the same no matter what day of the month I input (ex. 8/26/0001 in address book shows up as 8/24 in iCal)

I'm having this exact same problem, but it's doing it with a bunch of birthdays. I also did 0001 when I didn't know the birth year, so I went back and did a more current year, but they still aren't showing up where they should be...or at all. It's completely bizarre.

  • Address Book - Birthday Field question

I was trying to make an entry on the birthday field in one of my contacts. The field does not give me an option to change the year of birth. It defaults to 2000.
The other question is how can we set up alerts, so that we can maybe send out a card in advance? Thanks!
Is there a way to fix this?
    imac user

With the Address card in Edit mode you should be able to click the year field and after it highlights blue, change it to the year you need.
    According to Address book Help, in the Address Book Help Menu;
You can keep track of contacts’ birthdays by creating a birthday calendar that automatically includes all the birthdays in your address book.
    1. In Address Book, make sure you’ve entered the birthdate for each contact whose birthday you want to track.
    2. In iCal, choose iCal > Preferences.
    3. In the General pane, select the “Show Birthdays calendar” checkbox.
Birthdays in your address book are automatically added to the Birthdays calendar in iCal. When you add or remove birthday information in Address Book, the Birthdays calendar is also updated. You can’t make changes to the Birthdays calendar in iCal; to change it, you must edit the information in Address Book.
You can check in iCal Help for info on setting alerts.

  • Display age in iCal using Address Book birthday

Is there a hidden feature in iCal (or Address Book), or a plug-in available, that will let me display a person's age in iCal alongside their birthday using the date from Address Book?

    Hi Jenny,
Dates To iCal 2 does this. It works under Leopard, but not Tiger.
Dates to iCal 2 - A replacement for Apple's birthday calendar for iCal in Leopard.
    http://www.nhoj.co.uk/datestoical/
As well as automatically syncing birthday dates from Address Book, Dates to iCal 2 can sync anniversary and custom dates. It can set up to five alarms for each date in iCal and can also set different alarms for birthdays and anniversaries. It allows the option of only syncing from one Address Book group. This application also allows for the titles of the events sent to iCal to be modified to the user's preference.
    Dates to iCal is shareware.
    Best wishes

  • Address Book: Birthday field prob

When I was trying to add birthday date in the address book, it picks up January as default, I can't edit the month. I can change only the date and year, but no option to change the month (previously it was fine, I have more than 100 birthday dates in calendar). Even it's the same after I restart my macbook.

  • Address Book Groups not showing up in iTunes

The groups that I have set up in Address Book are not showing up in the Info tab in iTunes when attempting to sync my iPhone. The iCal calendars show and sync with no problems. I have tried resetting sync history, logging off of my .Mac account and logging back in.
    Any advise? Thanks.

Don't take what I have to say as fact, because I don't use a Mac and could be mistaken. I remember reading last night something about people taking and checking the box on the Summary page of iTunes to replace the info on the iPhone with the computer. Once that was done, it seemed to correct this issue and showed the address groups after that.
It might be worth the experiment, however I would make sure I had a backup of the phone before I tried it. I know it was only the last day or show that I read it, so if you want to search the forum before you try it, be my guest. I don't want to ruin anything for you, but I just remember reading that someone did that and it fixed it.
    Hope this helps.

Address Book > Accounts not showing sync options. - just a blank panel to right of "On My Mac". Cause could possibly be that I imported current contact list from vcf export of AB. Anyone any toughts on how can I retrieve the syncing options?

  • Address Book contact preview shows a different date than what is input in the birthday field.

When opening the address book and clicking on an entry, the preview pane at the bottom shows a different date than the date that is entered in the birthday field. It shows the day before the actual date that is entered. See images below:
    Thanks!

Thunderbird numbering is based on the Extended Support Releases, which are provided every seven "regular" cycles (thus after 7 6-week cycles = every 42 weeks) to minimize fallout from new features hitting the releases to frequently. Initially, those release were issued to organizations only which require some kind of internal review or certification of software prior to deployment.
Currently we are in the "37.0" cycle and 38 beta 1 has just been released (but doesn't have the fix yet). Meaning, the next release after 31.6.0 won't be 31.7.0 but 38.0 already, followed by 38.1.0 up to 38.6.0, the continuing with 45.0, etc.
Confusing, yes, but that's what they came up with.

  • Birthdays in Address Book appear 2 days earlier in iCal

I have the correct birthdays in Address Book. However about half of the birthdays (not all) appear in iCal 2 days before (e.g., Address book has correct date of 7/13 and it shows up in iCal on 7/11).
    How can I correct this?

I have a similar problem, but only with some of the birthdays. For some reason two appear one day and one year earlier than I have entered them in address book. I would like to know how to sort out the reason for this and correct the errors.

  • When using Mail and selecting the recipient, Address Book no longer shows Groups. I am forced to select from my entire alphabetized contact list. What's going on?

Has the Address Book software changed? Or has Mail changed? For purposes of email, Address Book no longer allows me to find an addressee or several addressees who are members of one of my Groups (or Smart Groups). What happens is this: I open Mail, initiate a new email, put the cursor in the To: box and click the 'Show addresses' icon in the New Message box. The Addresses list shows up in a separate window with an alphabetized listing of all my contacts. It used to allow me to select a Group, but Groups are no longer listed. I have no choice but to select an address (or addresses) from the entire list. Needless to say, this is intolerable.
    Ultimately, I have two questions:
What has changed and can I fix it so it works as it used to?
If I can't fix it, what other email/address book software combination works simply and cleanly so I don't have to live with this frustration.

    This add-on may help:
    https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html
I've had this add-on for so long that I can't remember what it does and does not provide.
If you select a List in your Address Book, so that its contents display at the right, does "Export" not write just the Lists's member Contacts out to the csv file?
It does here, but this may be thanks to the above-mentioned add-on.

  • Address Book Birthday Dates

In Address Book I find it hard to maintain accurate Birthday Dates. They are either out by one day (I live in NZ and am ahead of most of the world by a day) or the days are widly off. Any thoughts as to why it seems to have a mind of it's own? Mark.Adrr

I have the same issue on my iPhone 4S ( iOS 5.0.1 ). I live in Germany.
My Mac runs Snow Leopard, no iCloud involved.
Some birthdays are off by one day prior to the real birthday-date !?
This applies to dates in the past and future.
On my Mac the birthdays are displayed correct in calendar !?

  • Contacts in address book do not show in iCloud

I have set up the iCloud and got Calendar working fine. Contacts don't. When I merge contacts from iCloud they don't upload and disappear from my Address Book in my iMac ( I have a back up so I ca restore them....). I tried several times but no result. They are fine in my iPhone, though.
    Anybody can help?
    Thanks!
    Claudio

I ask this because I presume that my Macbook Address book is the master of all, and if I add a contact in here for example, it would be pushed to iCloud and then to my iPhone? But when I add contacts or make changes in my Address book on Macbook Pro, these are not appearing in iCloud
I think you misunderstand the way it works.  First, there are two places on your computer to see the data.
    1. "On my Mac" that is not synced to iCloud.
    2. "iCloud" that is a slave to the Master iCloud dataset. It is somewhat similar to IMAP email.
When importing data, you can choose which place it goes to. The option is a bit obscure, you need to point to the icon to produce the alternative location ("On my Mac" or "iCloud").
Don't close iCloud in System Preferences (the term "logout" is confusing, It's actually like deleting an email accout). If you want to "logout" say, on a shared computer, do it in Safari as a session logout.
What your iPhone or iCloud on your computer is seeing, is the iCloud dataset. With the proviso that it sometimes takes a while for the server to reflect the changes.  You also see the "On my Mac" dataset, which may look like duplicate data, if it is the same.
If your changes to the address book on your computer are not being changed in iCloud, it is either a server problem, or more likely, that you are working in the "On my Mac" dataset, which is not synced to iCloud.
If you want to have a simple iCloud only system, I suggest you:
    A. make archive copies of the Address Book by File>Export>Archive
(and each Calendar in iCal as .ics files by File>Export>Export)
    B. Delete the "On my Mac" Datasets.
You are less likely to see duplicate data showing, unless it all got horribly merged in iCloud, and duplicated up there already.
(Beware the "merge" option when creating an iCloud account, if there is already data in it)

  • Address book entries wont save

    Dear all,
I open address book, make a new entry, or amend one, save it, exit and open address book again. Sometimes the amendment is there, but mostly not.
I'm on the edge of depair, having purchased an iphone, macbook and mobileme, thinking they were going to be so useful. It's as bad as windows, and just as difficult to contact apple too.
Heartfelt thanks to anyone who can help.

    HI,
If you are new to Mac, the ~ means your Home Folder. Open a Finder window. In the Sidebar on the left select your Home Folder. (It has a little house icon). Then open the Library folder. Following that path will help you locate the files referenced below.
Might be a corrupted preference file.
Quit Address Book if it's open.
Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file to the Trash.
    com.apple.AddressBook.plist
Relaunch Address Book and see if you can save or edit.
If not, this could be a sync issue.
Go to ~/Library/Application Support/Address Book and move this file to the Trash.
    "AddressBook-v22.abcddb" Then relaunch Address Book.
Please do not post more then one time per topic.

  • Address Book contacts not showing up in Mail

I'm unable to access my address book contacts from Mail.  The wheel on the right side of the recipient box spins but never finds the contact or group I'm searching.  Can anyone help?

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Apparently I inadverdently clicked on something that changed my address book listings to showing only the first three letters of each name -

the column showing my address book now shows only the first three characters of each name
it's like they have all been abbreviated
I have to try and decipher the name from those three characters before clicking
    to see the
person's address window with the full information
I would like to be able to read the entire name- first & last like before
    Thank you in advance
