One of my screen's LEDs went out. Also, moved to Turkey.

Hello.
I have a 15" Macbook Pro. (late '08)
One of the LEDs under my screen broke, so I obviously have to get it repaired.
I have to add that the part of the screen comes back on when I move the screen, and will stay on for a while. So I don't know how that is a broken LED.
Here's the tricky part:
I moved to Turkey about two months ago.
Why that is tricky.
Apparently, because I bought my macbook in the US, and want to claim warranty in another country, Artı service in Istanbul has to check with Apple USA, to see if they are covering the costs.
Apple USA has yet to reply. (it's been 6 business days.)
Even if Apple USA accepts the costs, Artı service (official Apple reseller) has to place an order for the LED, which, according to them, will take at least 3 weeks to arrive and it will take an added unspecified time to replace the broken LED with the new one.
As for my question: Is this normal?
I will be without my computer for more than a month, by the looks of it, and have no idea if the costs will be covered.

any apple warranty on the machine - including applecare, is worldwide coverage, or should be anyway.
the issue lies in that apple works with 3rd party companies to administer the distribution & servicing.

so this may not be out of line what they told you & they will likely replace the whole screen panel to fix it. it's all one unit & part # as far as apple is concerned anyway.
get a 2nd opinion, call the phone number for Turkey listed under that link, & good luck!

I think that I no have luck. My mac has many problems: the source burnt, the keyboard went out of order , the screen is full of spots and the last one was the battery which is no charging anymore. I am already spent a lot of money to get the mac in order

I am really disapointed with my MacBook Air. I bought it around two years ago and every three months I need to do something to fix it. First was my source, it did not work and need to buy a new one after searched in 5 shops in Brasília/ Brazil. After this was the screen, full of waves and dark spots. Next was the keyboard which went out of order and I need to change by a new one (20 days waiting for the service in Goiânia/Brazil). Now was the battery, which is not charging! And the support told me to change and more 20 days waiting for the repair. When I bought my first Mac I really think that I never have so many problems. Anyone has the same issues?

Your dsplay is getting extended onto the external monitor. Chcnage the setting to duplicate it or only display on the external monitor and you should be fine,

screen went out on my 10 yr old dell xps m1710 - it appears to still boot - I can't see anything on the screen - I am looking ofr a way to directly access the hard drive pc to pc connection and do direct file transfers - tornado does not work c osx systems yet any otehr device out there? I have a lot of famiily pictures and some word files I want to transfer - nothing heavy. it is a screen/hardware issue not someting I can boot c in safe mode - still can''t see the screen and can't see to use a zip drive - I will need to use my new macbook pro 15 retinal display 2013 screen to "see" the files on the pc.

usb to usb does not work nor does the tornado device - that is - so far - just pc to pc.

FireWire between the two (get appropriate 800-800 or 400-800), Target Disk Mode on the old one, appears as an external disk on the new one. Drag everything over, or use Setup Assistant if first start of new one, or plain old Migration Assistant. You really don't need a display to see a prancing FireWire icon, do you?

Hi Mike, make sure the card has Mac ROM, or is a PC card with Mac ROMs flashed to it...

Check that the serial you are using is the correct one..
Typically the problem is either you are misreading the serial and therefore typing it in wrong. Check you are correctly entering zeros or O.. and so on....
or...
You bought the LP9 upgrade version.... which requires the LP8 full serial as well.
If it is the LP9 upgrade serial.. (and not the LP9 full serial) you must enter your original LP8 full serial first and then the upgrade serial for LP9.. when it asks for it.
Failing that.. you can obtain a replacement serial from Apple.. using this form.....

The changes have brought improvements but also drawbacks compared with the old slideshow editor.
The templates are now fairly fixed but I find the “Classic Dark” gives reasonable results with some panning and you can click the audio button and browse you PC for any track. Unfortunately there are only three speed choices linked to the music track. The improvement for most people is that you can now export to your hard drive at 720p or 1080p and upload to sites like YouTube and Vimeo.

Did you try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data by resetting, but it can clear some glitches.
If this does not work, try to set it up as new device without using the latest backup.

to make matters worse we bought the IMAC of amazon uk on the 4/07/011 so what can we do?
please remember how frustrating it is when asking for help when the helper telling you to type something on the screen when its frozen
Tell us when you can type some instuctions to the software how do you get to the doss prompt so to speak to do this

Am i right ok in thinking that
when i went into disk utilities and chose to clean my free space i left it over one hour to do its stuff
i came back and there was no progress bar just the box so i quit the program and when i opened mac mail the system just froze i forced quit mail rebooted and blue screen death
Now when free space is being cleaned is it the same as windows dose the utility write lots of 0 on the hard drive then rebbot its self to free the space
basicly is my hard drive full of 00000 is this why im getting this message because the process was interupted

What kind of noise?
The only things I can think of that make noise are fans and disks. Fans usually will not cause the computer to shutdown as you describe. My guess is your disk drive died. I hope you made a backup prior to start the ungrade.

Try restarting your Mac while holding down the Option key.
Hopefully you'll see the Startup Manager window where you can select the statup disk and click Restart.
