One side broken on my iTouch 4gen charger port?

Okay so a few days ago I was getting ready to charge my iPod
It's a 64Gb iPod Touch 4th gen. I plugged it in at 25% and heard the charger-in notification sound go off like usual but when I looked at the screen it was blank. A few minutes later I cam back and it was burning hot to the touch.
I immediately unplugged it and thought- oh no. Finally skimping on third-party chargers has caught up with me and fried the device I have actually invested about a grand in. I also considered that apple's devices are known to self-destruct as built-in obsolescence is good for profits. But just a few minutes ago I noticed after cleaning out some particulate matter, that I believed caused the overheating, that one of the L-Prongs that receives conductivity from the prongs that receive the charge had severed at the bend. When I turned my iPod up it fell out and I can't find it. But what I'm getting at here is if anyone knows a way I can still charge my device without investing in an expensive repair or searching the ground for the tiny piece of prong? It seems with just one L-prong all attempting a charge accomplishes is concentrating extreme heat into the port. I'm not gonna risk melting the circuitry but I want to keep this thing running
Can someone please help?
*side note for the Apple admins: I did not jailbreak my device because unlike some I believe in supporting the work of developers and musicians as I am actually both; ie warranty is not an issue.

As you found out, it is very hard to repair/replace.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

There are third-party places that will replace the connection. Google for: repair ipod touch dock connector. That sear may also give some hits to repair it yourself.

If your cable and iPad are less than a year old, make an appointment at your local apple store and take them in. If they find that there are manufacturer's defects they can be covered under the warranty.

I Have a iphone 4s and can't get the charger to come out...it was hard to get out the time before but i thought it was just me so then i charged it last night tryed taking it out and it is stuck on one side and will not come out...any suggestions on how to get it out?

You will just have to carefully pull harder. Push the other side back in so it is aligned, then pull it straight out.

  • Ipod Touch 4Gen has broken/bent charger port....

Alright so for a few weeks now my ipod has had odd time connecting to itunes and will not even really connect at all to my radio/dock, but luckily it still charges through the computer through the USB cord but it will connect/disconnect several times for awhile and other times it just stays connected. So I looked at the charger port and I noticed it has little metal wires that rest against a black plastic piece and part of the black part it rests on was broken off and in that area some of the metal wires were bent and one or two possibly were broken off but definitely had some bent ones. I typed in my serial number at apple's site and it said my limited warranty is still good for another week so I want to know if I can get it fixed for free if it covers it and if I can't get it fixed free than what is the cost for repairing that part?

If not caused by abuse, Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one at no cost. Otherwise the exchange price is $99, $149 or $199 depending upon the capacity.

    Hmmmmm....
Does it get overly hot when used?
Can't decide whether they are the product of overheating or merely that someone sprayed some product nearby, that was incompatible with the plastic.
Ok, si compraste y registraste el equipo, tus datos estan en linea y el proveedor verificara el estatus de la garantia a traves del numero de serie. Tambien lo puedes consultar aqui:  https://selfsolve.apple.com/

  • Charging on one side

My iPhone 5 only charges on one side of the cable. I have tested with multiple apple connectors.

Since there's no one side on a lightning cable, make an appointment with genius bar for an evaluation.

  • HT201401 Lighting cable only one side can be charged?

Why my lighting cable can be use for data transfer in both side

    It is my problem or?
    Design by apple?

I tried that first.  It didn't get the gunk that was in the bottom of the port.  The toothpick popped it right out in one piece.  Took almost no pressure at all.  I was worried that I would hurt something with the toothpick so I gently inserted it at one side and then slide it to the other side of the connector sorting of feeling it out.  It came out with a big block of gunk from the bottom of the connector.  I was just probing the connector to see if the toothpick would fit.  I really hadn't made any effort to clean anything yet.  I I was amazed at how much gunk there was.  I keep my phone really clean but I guess my pockets are another story...

  • Earphone/headphones when plugged in, only plays one side/is the jack broken and if so, is this an expensive fix?

I have tried 6 sets of headphones and the right side of the music doesn't play. I think that the connector is bad. Is this expensive to fix?

Check the jack recepticle for any debris that might interfere with the connection.
Also, check the Settings app > General > Accessibility > Hearing to see if Mono is tunred on and the mono balance set to one side of the other.
Lastly, try a rest: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the iPad shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, turn the iPad back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.

  • DOES THE 1 YEAR Warranty cower a broken charger port

hi i accidently broke my ipod charger port. i made a dumb mistake and forced the wrong end or side of the charger cord into the port and the the port is now bent .
i tried to bend it back and it broke. i want to know if it is covered by the one year warranty even though it was my fault. If it is covered would it be fixed or replaced.
    thank you.

If you are the cause why your charger port has been broken, then the warranty will not cover it.

  • Laserjet 2600n not printing black on one side of page. already cleaned the laser/scanner assembly.

laserjet 2600n not printing black on one side of page. already cleaned the laser/scanner assembly. i've cleaned the assembly a few times beofre to restor the colors as the printer is in a semi-dusti environment.  after cleaning the printer was fine, then about a week later, the black - and only the black - stopped printing on the right side of the page.  the text is straight across left to right then starts to waver and then then stops altogether.  i tried a different black toner cartidge and the problem remains.

    > so this is strictly a hardware issue as no drivers are involved. Yup. > Still prints all black.   Ok its not the controller. > Still prints all black.   Ok its not the fuser. >  its still prints all black. OK its not the laser itself > it still prints all black. Not that part either. > What else left is there?  Formatter board hasnt been mentioned.  Something is sending a command to the printer that is telling it to open up the doors and charge the entire page.  Normally the laser is responsible for charging the media.  As the media passes over the toner doors it atracts toner particles.  Then as the paper continues it rolls past the fuser where heat melts the particles into permanent place. > The power supply board maybe?   Perhaps but not likely.  If you have a spare you could try it but power supply problems usually result with the machine unable to boot or print correctly, not printing too much as you have described here. > Is there another part you would reccomend I look at?
You could try the old Halfway test just to verify that the problem is coming from teh laser/toner part of the printer.  http://www.printertechs.com/printer-troubleshooting/halfway-test Your paper may have somehow gotten a staic charge that opposes the charge of the toner, thus auto attracting all particles in range as it passes over the toner doors.  Might want to grab a fresh ream of paper to test and rule somethign crazy like that out. Not very many options left after that.

  • Broken Charging Port

    Hi,
I am with Bell. Last year i had boughten my first bb in April, a blackberry Style.
Four months later the charging port broke. First it started off that I needed to have the cable on a certain angle to charge then it stopped working altogether.
I sent my phone away to be repaired and it was returned "un repairable" and "damage was caused due to dropping" which was absolutely not true being that I am incredibly careful with my devices and I kept a hard case on it that I went to the states specifically for and also only had it for 4 months!
Needless to say I was furious with this answer, especially since Blackberry or Bell did notthing but tell me I needed to buy a new one because it was not covered in my warranty.
After my contract is up with Bell I will be switching to Rogers and possibly switching to Team IPhone (unfortunately) if i cannot find a good blackberry or a solution to my broken BB Style.
    Someone help me.

Our BB Style had this same problem. We went to the store and were told it was probably corrosion in the battery terminal but because it was a BB it couldn't even be looked at in store and had to be sent out and would cost at least $100 to fix (even thought we pay Sprint $8/month for insurance).
They were so interested in discouraging us to get it fixed and telling us that if it were water or something we would have to pay the full replacement value ($600) for the phone. He kept trying to sell us a new iPhone and their were no other BB phones to even demo in the store.
We went to a Radio Shack and wound up getting a lower price iPhone but are upset that BB wasn't represented in almost any store and were told our insurance was worthless.
Is this the type of relationship BB wants with its field sales force?
Hi and Welcome to the Community!
It does sound like whoever you spoke to was very poorly trained. But do be advised that the shop you went to was not a RIM store...it was a Sprint store, and they are a separate entity from RIM. They contract to sell BBs and BB services, but they are not RIM. So, it sounds like, if you wish to pursue a complaint path, that path would be with Sprint, would it not?
But, perhaps you wish for RIM to notice this issue...if that's your goal, I hope it's attained here. Just be aware that these forums are a user-to-user community, not a user-to/from-RIM formal communication channel.
    Good luck!

  • MacBook pro 13" charger port broken any tips to repair?

Hey guys, I have a mid 2010 MacBook pro and the charger port has broken and won't take any charge at all. There's 5 little pins inside the port and pin 1 and pin 5 seem to have had the caps taken off them or something. I'm unsue what the cause was but can anyone tell me if this is repairable? And how much it's likely to cost?

If you have AppleCare the repairs will be covered under its warranty.  However, if the repair techs consider the damage "accidental" you will be responsible for the cost of the repairs.
No one here can tell you how much it will cost.  You will need to ask the repair shop about the cost and/or provide you with an estimate.
If you do not have AppleCare and want to DIY, do a Google search, research YouTube's "How To" video tutorials and Do-It-Yourself Laptop Repair
