One Solution to Safari Issues Printing PDF's (Landscape)

If your combination of hardwar and software leads to the following trouble:
You are trying to print out a PDF from Safari, and
The document is in Landscape orientation, and
The print dialogue from the PDF provides no method to switch from Portrait, and
You try printing from the Safari Print menu, which does allow choosing Landscape, but
It results in printing extraneous garbage, and
It all prints out in the wrong size and won't fit properly,
and, If you also happen to have an iPad, then a solution exists:
Print from Safari in iOS!
It all works fine, even double-sided. You're stuck with Long-edge Binding, which is NQR for Landscape printing jobs, but that's a separate issue for the iPad/iOS forums.

That was very hard, and very good work. Well Done !

  • Issue printing PDF Packages

    I'm having issues printing PDF Packages.Clients have contacted us stating that our PDF Packages don't print properly. Essentially they were only able to print the "coversheet" and nothing else. I ran some test scenarios and noted that PDF Packages print feature behaved differently depending on several criterias:
    how it was viewed (ie: desktop, Firefox browser, IE browser)
    what Adobe Reader Plugin
    what command was used to access print feature (ie: file>print, ctrl + P, print icon)
    So far I've noticed that Adobe Reader utilizes two versions of the Print Dialog Box. The first one shows four choices for "Print Range" (All, Current View, Current Page, Pages...) seems to always be misconfigured and does not print as intended. The second one I've noticed seems to limit your Print Range choices (All, Current View) which usually works.
    This seems to be an Adobe bug. This Print Bug exists on both Acrobat 8 and 9, and the bug may or may not exist depending on how you view the "PDF Package" (ie: Desktop, Firefox, IE).
    If you open the PDF Package on your desktop and view via Adobe Reader for the most part it prints as expected for "Print Current Documents" or "Print All Documents". Although the "Print Range" is misaligned (ie: "Print All" behaves as "Current View", "Current View" behaves as "Current Page".
    If you open the PDF Package on a browser with an Adobe Reader plugin, a different scenario occurs.
    You might experience that you're locked into printing only the "coversheet" of the PDF Package.
    And again your "Print Range" might be misaligned.
    In Adobe Reader 8, a dropdown appeared when you selected "File>Print" or the "Print Icon". The dropdown then gave you an option to "Print Current Documents" or "Print All Documents". Which basically provided you an option to print the entire "PDF Package" or choose to print only a section of the "PDF Package".
    In Adobe Reader 9, the option to choose between "Print Current Documents" or "Print All Documents" was removed.
    In fact I started to document the instances to see if its an isolated issue and it looks like it fails to print (as intended) 60% of the time. Of the 40% that does print as intended... it looks like half the time the "Print Range" is misconfigured.
    Also, I've noticed that Reader utilizes two different "Print Dialog" boxes.
    The testing scenario I set up was that you can print in three different ways:
        1. File>Print
        2. <ctrl + P>
        3. <print icon>
    Three ways to view the PDF package:
        1. Download PDF Package & view on your desktop via Adobe Reader
        2. View PDF Package on Firefox w/ Adobe Reader plugin
        3. View PDF Package on Internet Explored  w/ Adobe Reader plugin
    My computer is using:
    XP Pro SP3,  Acrobat Reader 9
    I've also spot tested on:
    XP Pro SP3, Acrobat Reader 8
    Vista, Acrobat Reader 8
    Any Ideas?

    Hi Greg,
    Since this is sytem defined settings that you are trying to implement, I presume that the INI changes ought to be done in FSISYS.INI rather than the FSIUSER.INI.
    Apart from that most of your INI changes look fine as we are also using pdf as our Output type. Please find the INI change swe have implemented in our system for printing pdf.

  • Issues printing pdfs

    Hi we have some users that when printing pdf CAD drawings things like dashed lines are turning out solid.  I've found a "fix" for it but this seems to be a bandaid solution and I'd rather know why its going wrong and have some way to resolve it properly.
    It seems to only affect some users with some printers.  We are on Windows XP and Adobe Reader 8 - the users with the issue also seem to have Adobe Pro 8 installed.
    The fix I've found is to change their current distiller setting to have a compatibiltiy of reader 8 - as it defaults to reader 5.  This seems to fix the issue - but I'm not sure why it would - isn't distiller only used when actually creating PDFs? (ie not printing existing ones?)
    Because we have a lot of users I wonder if the solution to change all their compatibility to version 8 is a reasonable one - or is something else the issue?  Eg the creation of the PDFs in the first place?
    Any advice appreciated.
    Paul Thomsen

    Good day Paul,
    You are correct that Distiller is only used when creating PDF files, but not when printing them.  I'd recommend that if you're users at typically printing from Adobe Reader, that you upgrade to Adobe Reader X.
    However, you may want to try turning on the Print as Image option within the Reader 8 print dialog box to see if this improves your printing.
    Good luck!
    Kind regards,
    David

  • Reader 11.0.03 issue printing PDF in colour

    Trying to print a document (PDF) in colour with Reader 11.0.03 but only getting blank pages.
    Reader 11.0.03 can print the PDF in Black and white.
    The PDF has be tested on different machines all with the same issue.
    I can print the document using 10.1.4.
    The work around (print as image) does work with Reader 11.0.03 but the quality is not the same plus i dont want my customers to keep doing this and playing around with the dpi.
    So far this is the 1st PDF and only one to have this issue but i would like to get ahead of this before it becomes a major issue.
    The PDF was created with CS6.

    Hey McBlob,
    Thank for your reply.
    Yes this way also works much like print as image.
    But I guess what I am trying to find out is there a way so the user will not have to do this work around?
    Is this a known issue related with Adobe Reader or is this a once off issue?
    Is there something needs to be done during the creation of the PDF?

  • I am having issues printing PDF documents on my HP CM1312nfi

    Whenever I print a PDF that I have created by scanning from my CM1312nfi it has difficulty printing it.  It will print one page then read ERROR in the printer set up on the computer and 90 seconds later it will then print the next page and do the same thing.  So if I have a large PDF it can take hours to print 1 copy.
    I do make sure to use the print production features is Acrobat as well as reduce the file sizes dramatically but this doesn't seem to help the situation.  Anyone have any thoughts??

    Please read this document reference printing PDF files and slow printing.

  • One solution for Safari 3.2 crashing if you don't have any 3rd party apps

    So Safari 3.2 was crashing like crazy for me and i tried everything suggested on these forums without success. I never had any 3rd party "hacks" installed like PithHelmet that are known to cause the issue. I remembered i had a proxy server setup to access journals from my school library at home a while back. Tried disabling that and now safari 3.2 has been running without crashing for 2 days.
    Just putting it out there for those of you still having crashing issues. I'm sure it's not the cure-all, but maybe some of you still have a proxy enabled. I hope apple fixes this particular issue eventually, because i need to use the proxy.
    Message was edited by: zig_k

    I guess that is the other side of the analysis. I am similarly not really aware of the way that the proxy works -- I guess it confirms data and settings -- and with the PAC file, these are changed from time to time. I guess, if it is working in FF and not Safari, you might try a few things like turning off then on the proxy settings; creating another Location; resetting Safari (keep that one for later); trashing the relevant preference files; asking your sysadmin; and sending feedback to Apple, with the PAC file location.

  • Unable to print PDF with landscape orientation

    This print problem seems to be unique only to Mac when printing a PDF from Acrobat or Reader. All the pages come out in portrait (tall) orientation when the doc orientation is landscape and all the print setup is checked for landscape printing. I have a Xerox Phaser 7760DX printer. I can print the same doc without any issue via my pc, but cannot print landscape via my Mac, which makes me wonder if this is an Acrobat or Xerox issue. I did already update to latest Phaser 7760DX driver, but still same result. Thank you in advance for your advice.

    Dont know the answer, but getting auto email notifications which I want stopped. Anyone know how? (I'm getting them from a bunch of messages)
    Thanks

  • Problems printing PDF in landscape

    I had this same issue with Illustrator just after I upgraded my OS to 10.6.5. When printing my PDF with my saved settings for my printer, it now ignores these settings. This literally just happened this morning with Acrobat (is still happening with Illustrator). I printed the same PDF doc yesterday (200 copies) and all was fine. I upgraded nothing overnight and thought by upgrading Acrobat to 9.4.1, it would help. It did not. I'm printing to a Richo Aficio MP C6000.
    Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,

  • Safari & Printing Pdf

    Why won't safari 6 PRINT pdfs on OSX 10.8

    A few ideas for you:
    Safari should work fine all by itself, in terms of opening pdfs.
    Uninstall Acrobat reader.
    Go to /Library/Internet Plug-ins and remove any plugins that have a hint of relating to pdf's.
    ditto for ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins.
    If you're still having problems with printing after that, I'd uninstall and then reinstall your print drivers.
    On that subject, just install the printer driver with Software update, and get rid of any other manufacturer software or utilities for your printer.

  • P1102w can not print PDF file

    Hi,
    I am trying to print a 11.3MB of PDF file with pictures in it. After printing 4 pages, printer starts to wait green light blinking, and the 5th page comes without half the content, orange light blinking. (I bought two of this model, one for home, one for the office and same for both, airprint or cable, the same...)
    The home is connected to wi-fi, the base station is close, a few meters away. It has fixed IP. It seems the printer doesn't have enough hardware sources. Office version is connected via USB.
    It seems this model lack the adequate hardware (RAM, CPU, etc.) to print a PDF document properly. What good is a printer if it cannot print a simple PDF file with some pictures in it?  I need a solution as soon as possible.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi @bastun,
    I see that you are having issues printing PDF documents. I would be happy to help you.
    Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name.
    Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name. (Laserjet P1102w)
    If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
    Try printing the PDF again.
    If you are still having issues, try printing the PDF as "Print as Image". Print PDF as an image.
    Try printing a couple of pages from the printer's manual, to see if to see if you have the same results.

    Run the updates for Adobe. Product updates.

  • My LaserJet P1100 won't print pdf's

    LaserJet P1100 will not print pdf's from thirtd party websites. Downloaded pdf's sometimes print but mostly not. A HP tecchie had a go at solving this but only managed to screw up the settings on my pc...the problem remained.

    Hi @sweep ,
    I see that you are having issues printing PDF documents from a third party website. I would be happy to help you.
    Which Laserjet model do you have? How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
    Laserjet P1102 or the Laserjet P1102w.
    Try and print a PDF document from the manual for the printer, to see if you have the same results.
    This way we will know if it is the website or if the printer won't print any PDF documents.
    Let me know the results. LASERJET PROFESSIONAL P1100 Printer series.
    Try another web browser to see if the PDF will print.
    Try printing the PDF as an image:
    Open the original PDF file, if necessary.
    Click File, and then click Print, or click the Print icon. The Print window opens.
    Click Advanced. The Advanced Print Setup window opens.
    Select the Print As Image checkbox, change any other settings as desired, and then click OK.
    On the Print window, click OK again to begin printing.
    Run all the Adobe Updates. Product updates.
    How is the printer connected? (USB/Wireless)
    If there is anything else I can help you with, just let me know.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 won't print PDF's

    Just bought a new OJP 8600 (3rd HP printer in a year, starting to get VERY frustrated). I've searched through all of the forums, all over the internet and cannot find a solution.  I'm on a Mac OSX 10.9.3. I can't print any PDF files either through Acrobat 10.1.10 or Preview.  Please advise.  Thank you.

    Hi thelmacotton, and welcome to the HP Forums.
    I see you are having issues printing PDF's.  I would like to try and help.
    I would suggest deleting the printer from your print system, using this document: Uninstalling the Printer Software.
    Once you have deleted it, I would suggest verifying and repairing the disk permissions: About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
    I would also suggest running your Apple updates:  OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps
    After the updates, I would recommend reinstalling the HP Officejet Pro 8600 series Full Feature Software and Driver- OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
    Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • HP laserjet 1536dnf will not print pdf's

    My laser jet 1536dnf will not print pdfs.  Prints everything else.  I have adobe acrobat 9.  I have unistalled the driver/software for the printer and reinstalled.  Still not fixed.  When I pull up the pdf and select print, then hit ok, nothing happens.  However, I can print pdfs to the other printer connected to my computer.  This logically brings the conclusion that the issue is with the laser jet driver.  Does anyone have a clue as to how to fix this?

  • Cannnot Print PDF documents

    Since upgrading to Mac O SX Lion 10.7.2, I can no longer print a PDF documents (not from an e-mail attachment or from a file folder).  I get the spinning beachball and must force quit preview (not responding).  I have uninstalled and reinstalled my printer...no help.  I can print .jpg and .doc. files without a problem. Can anyone help?

    Are you using a Canon printer? If so, there are several threads here about this, and you may be able to get around it by updating your drivers. The Caon site has more information on this:
    http://www.canon.com.au/Support-Services/Support-News/Lion-Support
    Another possibility is to use Acrobat or Safari to print pdfs.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to print PDF files using java print API

    Hi,
    I was goign throw lot of discusion and reading lot of forums related to print pdf files using java api. but nothing seems to be working for me. Can any one tell me how to print pdf files using java api.
    Thanks in advance

    Mike,
    Can't seem to get hold of the example described in your reply below. If you could let us have the URL to get then it would be great.
    My GUI application creates a pdf document which I need to print. I want to achieve this using the standard Java class PrinterJob (no 3rd party APIs I'm afraid, commercial restraints etc ..). I had a stab at it using the following code. When executed I get the pretty printer dialog then when I click ok to print, nothing happens!
    boolean showPrintDialog=true;
    PrinterJob printJob = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob ();
    printJob.setJobName ("Contract.pdf");
    try {
    if (showPrintDialog) {
    if (printJob.printDialog()) {
    printJob.print();
    else
    printJob.print ();
    } catch (Exception PrintException) {
                   PrintException.printStackTrace();
    Thank you and a happy new year.
    Cheers,
    Chris
